"You look nervous, Love." He mentioned, still moving slower than usual as he unbuckled his seat belt and stepped onto the asphalt of their company parking lot."

"I just wish you would have taken another couple days to recover, that's all."

"I'm not sure that I could have spent another few days at home." Cal confessed as they walked into the building. Ria was at the desk, conversing with Heidi; her expression was filled with confusion as they passed by. "Finally decided to come to work, I see."

"It does have my name on the building, doesn't it, Torres?"

"It does. Still doesn't explain where the two of you have been, while Loker and I have been working our butts off-"

Gillian interfered before Cal could step in. "I'm sure both you and Loker and have been working hard, but both of us needed some time to work some things out."

"By 'things' you don't mean that has anything to do with the lady who came into our building and practically collapsed on our floor? I have to say that things haven't been the same since then."

"Ava was quite ill."

"So you know who she is then?"

They walked into her office. Gillian shut the door behind her, which have them some privacy from prying eyes. Cal had since wandered off to his own office, leaving them to talk. "What have you found out on Alec's wife and son?"

"Loker and I have been going through anyone who might have a reason to hurt Alec or his family." She paused after the word family, casually gazing over at Gillian who was now sitting behind her desk. "Can I ask what you gain helping him?"

"We may be divorced, but a part of me still loves him." Gillan smiled sadly at the picture of Sophie.

"Except he has a new wife and son." Ria peered over at the picture, then came to her own conclusion. "Something you couldn't have at the time, so you adopted Sophie." Her phone began to ring shrilly as she pulled it out of her purse. "Speaking of Alec-" Ria got a quick glance at the caller ID.

"Foster." She listened intently, slowly rising from her chair. "I'll be there as soon as I can." She threw her phone hastily back into her purse.

"You going to tell me what's going on, or am I going to have to guess?" Ria inquired, following at her heels as she walked into Cal's office.

"Alec's son was dropped off at a church about six blocks from here with a note attached to his blanket." She informed them both. "Cal and I will head over the hospital. Where are you and Loker at with suspects?" He got up slowly from his desk.

"Sounds like a possible ransom note?" Ria inquired curiously. "We've narrowed that list down to five possible suspects."

"I'm not sure yet." Gillian informed her as they walked towards the back door. "I'll need you and Eli to see if you can narrow that list down. We'll send you what we've got when we get there."

Ria nodded, silently retreating back towards the computer room; while Gillian and Cal headed towards the parking lot. They were both silent at first as they walked side by side. It was pretty unusual for Cal to be as silent as he had been.

"I am not regretting coming to work today." He finally broke the silence as she kept her eyes on the road. "Oh, and Emily sends her invitation to her birthday dinner."

"When is it?"

"Friday."

"Tell her I'll be there." She sighed softly, as she turned carefully to the other lane. "We should talk aout Sophie and I moving back home."

Cal shifted in his seat so he was facing her. "This all because I was ready to come back to work."

Gillian shook her head. "Since Sophie came to live with me, she's barely spent time in the house that she's supposed be growing up in. She goes home to the nanny and then back to your house to sleep."

"I get it. She needs a stable environment to grow up in, so why not stay where you are? Emily loves her. I love her. We love you."

She looked over at him, trying to determine whether he was serious. It didn't take her long to realize that he was being dead serious. "I wish it were as simple as you're making it sound."

"Nothing has ever been simple for us, Love." He mentioned. They parked in the nearest parking spot they could get to the entrance and walked in. They were greeted by a familiar setting of white walls, a sterile environment and scrubs. It had also been the same hospital that Cal brought her after she had fainted because of a high fever, walked out of those same doors when she left the hospital against medical advice, where Sophie had been admitted and where they had both been patients after their car accident.

"Can I help you?" A woman in her mid-thirties called from behind the front desk. She had a rounded face, sparkly blue eyes, freckles on her nose and strawberry blonde hair that had been pulled up into a ponytail. Her name tag revealed that her name was Hannah.

Gillian stepped up to the desk. "My name is Dr. Gillian Foster. I was informed about my nephew being brought here earlier. His last name is also Foster."

The nurse looked her up and down, before she finally relented and typed something into the computer. "Can I see some ID?" Without hesitation, Gillian pulled out her her wallet and showed her driver's license. "Thank you."

"I'll just wait out here, Love." To seal the deal, he kissed her on the corner of her lips, then went to sit in the less-than-comfy waiting room chairs. The nurse glanced over at their affection as she picked up the phone and dialed an extension.

"Hey Nicole, it's Hannah. I have a Dr. Gillian Foster at the front desk who says that her nephew was brought in a little while ago. Can you check and see if it's alright if she comes up now?" A dramatic pause followed as she held up the phone to her ear. "Okay, thanks. I'll let her know." As she hung up, her ponytail swung from side to side. "Looks like you're free to go up. He'll be in room 108 on the Pediatric floor."

"Thank you." Gillian said, her heels clicking against the white tile as she turned to Cal. "I'll only be a few a minutes." She holds his gaze, willing him not to do something stupid while she's gone.

"I won't do anything you wouldn't do." He promises, but those words sound almost hollow. Before he can say anything further, she turns on her heels and walks through the doors towards the elevator.
