Battlefront
"Ha! Take that, you rebel scum!" Jack laughed triumphantly as he fired his gun at Merritt's back and the man went down.
Merritt frowned as the screen faded to black before showing the winner screen. Letting the controller fall into his lap, Merritt folded his arms across his chest and glared up at the Stormtroopers as they switched to the stats screen. Jack continued laughing, quickly pressing his controller so that they were taken back to the battles screen. Before picking a new game, Jack turned and grinned cheekily at Merritt.
"So how many does that make now? Five to zip?"
"Ha-ha." Merritt replied humorlessly. "Keep this up and you're going to be as full of yourself as Danny boy."
"Hey!" Daniel exclaimed from across the room causing Jack and Merritt to both laugh at the other man's expense. Daniel just shook his head and went back to studying his book.
"How about it, old man, you up for a rematch?" Jack smirked and Merritt knew he was going to regret this.
"You're asking for it, Jackie." He turned to focus on the screen. "I won't go so easy on you this time."
"Yeah, sure, whatever you say, big man." Jack laughed and started a new game on Sullust. "Try not to cry too much when I beat you again."
Merritt just stuck his tongue out and carefully examined the guns before settling on the same one he had been using all day. Jack just grinned and chose his favorite gun. As the game loaded, Daniel just sighed and shook his head.
"Haven't you two played enough? It's been four hours."
"Haven't you read that book enough?" Jack shot back, sprinting forward the second the game began.
Daniel glared, but returned to his well-read book and did his best to ignore the sounds of battle coming from the other side of the room. Jack laughed as he maneuvered his character to the top of the platforms and knelt. Keeping a careful eye on Merritt's screen as well as his own, he waited until the right moment and fired his rocket cannon as Merritt's character turned the corner. Jack laughed and collected the coin as Merritt cursed and died yet again. It only took Jack seven minutes and thirty-three seconds to collect one hundred coins and win the game once more. Merritt cursed and dropped the controller. Jack just grinned.
"Hey, you were closer that time. You actually managed to get forty coins and you killed me once."
"And died right after." Merritt grunted. He stood and tossed the controller to Jack who caught it easily. "Call me when you decide to play fair."
"How am I not playing fair?" Jack exclaimed. "It's Battlefront!"
"And you're clearly cheating. It's the only explanation." Merritt insisted. "If anyone needs me, I'll be at the bar."
Jack laughed as Merritt grabbed his coat and left the apartment before anyone could stop him. Before switching to one player, Jack turned back and grinned slyly. Daniel felt the eyes on him and looked up, raising an eyebrow as he marked his spot in the book. Jack just grinned and asked:
"Bet you can't do better than…"
"No." Daniel didn't even let him finish his sentence.
"But…"
"No."
Jack pouted for a moment as Daniel returned to his book. After a moment, Jack shrugged and tossed the second controller to the side. More practice for him. Next time, he was determined, he would destroy Merritt in five minutes.
