Victoria and Sam had been dating happily for some time now. They were going on their fourth date and things were going pretty smoothly, but today, Victoria wasn't feeling well. She had thrown up twice this morning, and her appetite had increased somewhat. She also felt bloated to the core. She was going to go work at the café she signed up for, but today she barely wanted to get out of knocked on the door, followed by Danny, who was too deeply engrossed in his iPod to notice anything. Victoria groaned, pulling the blankets of her small bed in her small apartment over her head. "Is everything okay in there?" Ava did not reply. Ava was worried.
Telling Danny to stand back in case Victoria was not decent, she decided to unlock the door to her friend's room. Victoria lay sick and pale in her bed. She looked a hot mess. Her once chocolate brown hair was now a bird's nest frenzy, and she looked bigger, not in a fat way, but almost if she was expecting a looked at her like a fish who was suddenly yanked out the water, heading for its death. Ava immediately knew what was wrong. "So you both did it, didn't you?" Ava asked. Victoria blushed, and nodded slowly. She thought that she was indeed pregnant with Sam's baby. She was scared, but excited. So far she was living a normal life, but she was unaware of how all that was going to change."Does Sam know yet?" Ava asked, sitting on the opposite side of the bed."No, h-h-h-he doesn't. I'm too scared to tell him. What if he gets mad?" Victoria asked. Sam would never hurt Victoria, but she didn't tell him about her possible pregnancy.
They weren't even out of high school yet. This was bad. Very bad."I'm sure he won't be mad. Sam loves you, remember. He will never stay angry at you. Besides, I'm sure ol' Buckethead needs a brush up on his parenting skills," Ava replied with a chuckle. Victoria smiled a little and brushed the hair from her face. Danny cleared his throat, alerting the two young women that he was waiting for them. "Come on. I know you're hungry. Let's go get some chicken and waffles. I know a place that tastes way better than that gross Denny's we used to go to." Ava said tugging on Victoria's hand."Okay, okay. First, let me get dressed.
I look like I got hit by a hurricane and the hurricane won," Victoria said. Ava nodded in understanding and left out the room.
*34 minutes later*
Victoria and Ava and Danny arrived at the Waffle House. The waiter greeted them and took them to a table. The three friends looked through the menu handed out to them. Suddenly, the door swung open, and Victoria's heart almost dropped. Doom walked in, causing the entire restaurant to go silent. The sound of a fork was heard in the distance. Doom snorted. Victoria felt like vomiting, and she quickly hid under the pretended nothing was happening at all while Ava made sure to keep an eye out on the sorcerer-mechanic. Doom just searched around the restaurant before leaving.
Ava felt bad for Victoria after hearing how Doom treated her. She vowed to keep watch of her friend's girlfriend."It's okay, Victoria. He's gone now. Good riddance," Danny said. Victoria sighed in relief, standing up. The restaurant continued on eating and handling business. Victoria was scared out of her mind. If her uncle found out about Sam and her possible pregnancy, her possible child and definite boyfriend would be done for."Excuse me, Ms., but do I know you?" A bald man asked, walking up."No, no you don't," Victoria said nervously."That's funny. You look like that missing girl on the news. Some guy called Doom says he's searching for her. If I find her, I'm going to be rich. Anyway, smell ya later," The man said, walking was nervous. She wasn't happy to be here. Maybe she should have stayed home. Ava took her hand in hers, and squeezed it to encourage her to be strong.
Victoria smiled a bit. The feeling of nausea came again. Victoria gagged. Pushing past her friends, she ran towards the ladies' bathroom, knocking over a girl who was about to exit. "Ow! Could you please watch where you're going?" The girl asked. "Even I can do that, and I'm blind." Victoria was too busy throwing up to notice. "Is something wrong?" The girl throwing up, Victoria sighed. "I haven't been feeling well," she said. She looked at the girl she'd knocked over, and recognized her from a brief visit to the dungeon in Doom's castle.
"Aren't you that blind girl who can see through walls?" She asked, worried that the blind girl in front of her might hurt her for allowing her to be locked in the dungeon."Only if I concentrate hard enough," the girl replied calmly. "Name's Lunaris, by the way.""Victoria," Victoria replied, relieved that Lunaris hadn't attacked. She looked nervous. "Can I tell you a secret?" She asked."If it's what I think it is, no, you are not pregnant," Lunaris deadpanned calmly.
Victoria felt a myriad of emotions: relief at not being a young mom, some disappointment at the same thing, and some worry over what could be the cause of her symptoms, along with a touch of disbelief. "How can you tell?" She asked."I can see through clothes as easily as you see through air," Lunaris replied casually. "I can only see heat signatures, though. Right now, you're just a red-orange-white blob to me." She looked toward Victoria's midsection and grimaced. "It looks like there's something in your intestines that's not supposed to be there," she said, concerned. "I can't tell, but it doesn't match the signature of a fetus.""Well, what should I do?" Victoria asked, scared. "Do you know anyone I can go to?"Lunaris handed her a card with raised writing on it. "My doctor," she said. "Just give him a call, and tell him Lunaris recommended you see him.
You'll get half off if you don't have insurance. He's very serious about patient confidentiality. As he tells me when I go to him for a check-up, 'What's said in this room stays in this room.'"Victoria looked at the card. It was a local number, and she had no other ideas of places she could go. "I think I'll check it out," she said eventually."Everything okay?" Ava asked, walking into the room as the girls walked out. She noticed the other girl. "Hey, Lunaris," she said. She noticed the small bump on the back of Lunaris' head. "Oh, my goodness. Are you okay?" She asked, guiding Lunaris to a seat."I'll be fine," Lunaris replied. "It's Victoria I'm worried about.""I know," Ava replied. "I know that she…" She paused to make sure no one was listening in, "may be expecting a child," she added, lowering her shook her head, her face grim. "She has no child in her, but rather something in her gut area that doesn't look like it belongs there," she replied. "I've recommended that she go see my doctor. He'll be able to take care of whatever malady's affecting her."
