Chapter 8- The 'Moment'

Marvel-POV

Katniss and I walked through the doors of the cafeteria to Math class.

Finally alone with Katniss.

I've been wanting alone time with Katniss ever since football. I don't know, I just sort of have these small feelings for her that I can't quite explain.

"So…" I said, trying to start a conversation. "Who's Gloss?"

"Just this guy who wanted to take me out for lunch today," Katniss replied with a shrug of her shoulders, not turning her head.

"So he just kept asking?" My voice was laced with curiosity.

Katniss took a moment before answering. "Yeah, I told him no, but I guess he just really wanted me to say yes."

"Well I guess I can understand why," I stated.

"Why?" Katniss looked at me curiously.

"Well, because you're so fun and cool to hang around and you're a really nice person."

"You think I'm fun and cool?" She asked, stopping now.

"Katniss… I –"

I can't do this!

"I think that you are a really cool friend and always fun to hang-out with."

She blushed, then looked up at me. "Thanks."

I looked in her eyes, but she averted them from looking at me.

"Katniss," I whispered.

I can do this.

"Hmm?" She asked.

"I... I like you?" I was nervous, so came it out as more of a question than a statement.

Shock is the first thing that appears on her face, then slight confusion.

Without thinking, I started to lean in slowly, but Katniss took a step back.

Realizing was I had just almost done, my eyes widened and I yanked my head back. "Katniss, I can explain. I-."

She just took off down the hall, and headed straight into the classroom, keeping her head down.

Annie and Finnick passed by me and stopped.

"What're you doing in the middle of the hallway? Weren't you with Katniss?" Finn asked.

I dusted off my shirt and stood a little taller. "Oh, she just, uh, really wanted to, um, get to class. So she went ahead of me."

"Oh, okay. Well, bye!" They both said and walked off down the hall again.

"See you later!" I called off after them then walked in to class.

When I entered the room, I noticed that the seat beside Katniss was already taken and that she was just staring down at her lap. So I ended up sitting next to some guy with shaggy hair.

He looked somewhat down and glanced at Katniss every once in a while.

"Dude, you okay?" I asked.

The guy shook his head and looked at me. "Yeah, I'm fine."

"My name's Marvel, " I stated, sticking out my hand.

He grabbed my hand firmly and shook it.

"Gloss."
