"Finally!" Lola exclaimed as she plopped on the snowy ground. For winter, the snow was sure melting early. "I thought the weekend wasn't ever going to come!"
Molly giggled as she took out her wand and melted the snow and ice around Lola. Once that was done, she made sure the ground was dry before she sat down. "Sure it may be the weekend, but then schools going to start again on Monday."
"Ugh!" Lola groaned. "Don't remind me Molly. I'm so fed up with school its not even funny."
"Shesh, what's wrong with school?" Molly asked, as she took out her homework for the day.
"A lot Molls," Lola said. Molly raised and eyebrow as if asking for her to explain more. "The amount of homework that they keep giving us. It's like they think we don't have lives or anything. Then O.W.L's are fast approaching, and they keep bringing it up like it's a big deal."
"Well they kind of are," Molly said giving her friend a pointed look. "They determine whether or not we're allowed to continue taking that subject for the next two years."
"I know, I know. I heard that enough times," Lola said. "It's just, this is giving me a headache and I can't wait till its all over."
"Mm, I know. Look on the bright side, at least we still get to go to Hogsmeade," Molly pointed out.
"And I'm glad for it!" Lola exclaimed as she stretched and closed her eyes, thinking about taking a little nap.
Molly worked in silence as Lola took a nap, and they were content. Until someone Molly hoped she would never see again.
"Hey cupcake. How's it going?"
"Go away Dan," Molly said in a bored tone. She nudged Lola with her foot and she opened her eyes to see Dan Bradley. She sat up scowling.
"What are you doing here?" Lola asked coldly. She wasn't the biggest fan of Dan and vise versa.
"I just wanted to say hi to Molly and see how things are going," he replied with a smile.
Lola snorted. "Yeah right. The day that happens, that's the day pigs fly."
"Haven't you heard Lola? Pigs do fly, you just haven't seen them yet," he said, and Lola rolled her eyes. "So Molls, how's it going?" he asked, tapping her leg. Molly squirmed, wishing he would just go away and leave her alone for good.
"Fine," she answered, going back to her homework. She figured if she'd ignore him long enough, he would leave.
"I hear you're going on a double date the next Hogsmeade trip."
It seems that wasn't the case.
"Yeah and?"
"I was hoping I could be that date," Dan said. If Molly was drinking something, she would have choke. Lola on the other hand started laughing uncontrollably. "What's so funny?" he asked, annoyed.
"Y...you th...think Mo...Molly's goi...going t...to a...agree t...to th...that?" Lola finally managed to say, still laughing. Dan wanted to hex Lola or something for being so annoying.
"Would you shut up. I'm not talking to you anyways," Dan snapped. "So Molls, what do you say?"
Before Molly had a chance to say something, someone sat behind Molly and snaked his arms around her waist pulling her closer to his chest. "I'm sorry, but I already agreed." Molly turned around to see none other then Jared McCardy.
Dan snorted. "Right, like I can believe Molly would ever go for someone like you."
"And she would go for someone like you?" Jared asked.
"She already had, and she'll come back wanting for more," Dan said with a smirk. Molly hid her face in her hands, wishing Dan would just take the hint and leave. Jared pulled her closer tightening his hold on her.
"I don't think so," Jared said. "Now if you don't mind, you can go now."
"Mm, I'll be back don't you worry," Dan said and tapped her knee before getting up and walking away. Molly shivered after he touched her.
"Are you okay Molly?" Jared asked worriedly. Lola scooted over making her sure her friend was okay.
"Yeah," Molly said, with a slight nod. "I wish he would leave me well enough alone." Molly turned around and gave Jared a hug. "Thank you," she whispered. "I don't know what I would have done if you didn't come."
Jared and Lola was taken by surprise by Molly's actions. They both knew she wasn't much of a huger, Lola knew the truth but Jared was kept in the dark. And Molly hoped that it would stay that way.
"You're welcome," Jared said, returned the hug awkwardly. "Victoria said you looked really uncomfortable and asked me to help you out."
"But you were reluctant to?" Molly asked as she pulled away and sat back. Jared nodded with a sheepish smile.
"Yeah, but she threatened me if I didn't," Jared explained, Molly giggled.
"Well, either way I'm glad you came and helped. I hope your girlfriend won't mind."
"Don't worry about it. She'll have my head if I didn't help out one of her friends."
Molly smiled slightly. It wasn't her usual happy smile, it was more of a sad tired one. They knew, but they didn't want to ask why.
"Are you okay Molly?" Jared asked, making sure she as really okay.
"Mhm," she said with a nod. Molly went back to her homework, and Jared and Lola shared a look that went unnoticed to Molly.
"Right, well I have to go. Bye guys," Jared said as he stood up. "Take care Molls."
Molly waved him goodbye as she stared at the page she had in her hands. Lola moved over so she was sitting close to Molly and hugged her.
"Molly it's okay," Lola said as soon as Jared was out of earshot. "It's okay to be not okay."
Molly gave up on her homework and buried her face in her hands. "Oh I with he would just leave me alone," she mumbled in her hands, trying everything in her power to not cry.
"I know, I know," Lola said, trying to soothe her friend. "And one day he will. You just have to be brave and strong. And I'll be there for you." Molly nodded and sighed.
"I know, but it's so hard!" she said shaking her head. "Life sucks."
"I know," Lola said smiling slightly. "But there's nothing you can do about it. All you can do is fight it."
Molly was about to reply when she felt someone sit beside her, she hoped it wasn't Dan. She kept her face hidden, not wanting to face him.
"Hey Cor," Lola greeted and took her arms off Molly.
"Hey," Cor replied back and studied Molly. "Are you alright?"
Molly shrugged and took her hands away from her face and smiled slightly. "Yeah I'm fine."
"You sure? It looks like you had saw someone you didn't want to see." At the Lola snorted.
"You got that right pal," she said and Molly glared at her friend. "Right, well I have to go and find my cousin. I have to talk to him about something," Lola said, grabbed her stuff and quickly left leaving Molly and Cor to talk.
They sat in silence for awhile both lost in thought. "Do you want to talk about it?" Cor was the first to break the silence.
"I don't know. You won't like what I'll say and I really don't need your pity," Molly finally answered. Cor shook his head.
"I won't pity you," Cor stated. "Trust me, I don't like people pity me either." Molly looked over at him in confusion. She knew no one like to be pitied but the way Cor said it, there was more to that story. "I'll tell you my story if you tell me yours," he offered. Molly thought about it and nodded.
"Alright," she said and thought how she was going to start her story. She sighed and began, "I don't know how it all started, but for awhile now I've been depressed. That's why I was failing my classes. I feel like I'm alone when I'm with my family or friends. It sucks you know? And I don't know what to do about it. I try to be happy for everyone else so they think nothings wrong. But sometimes it's hard.
"And then there's my dad. He expects me to be great at everything and hopes that I would choose to work in the Ministry like him. I know some people have it much worse, so I shouldn't complain," she paused and rubbed her temples. She could feel a headache coming on.
"There's more isn't there?" Cor asked, and she nodded.
"I had a boyfriend I kept from my family because they make a big deal out of it. Which is really annoying, but I know they're just looking out. Anyways, I didn't know he gets really jealous or protective. And I have to do everything his way and nothing else. Anyways, he was abusive. Very abusive. So I hid all my bruises or scars from everyone. During that time, only Lola knew what was going on. Lucy let it slip before Christmas and somehow Victoria found out."
"But now everything's okay?" Cor asked, Molly shrugged.
"I finally dumped him. Well, James helped with that. So that's my story, what's yours?"
Cor sighed slightly regretting what he said. A deals a deal, so he barreled on. My dad was a Death Eater," Cor started to explain. "He came home one day and he thought my mom was someone else, and he killed her. She wasn't suppose to be at home anyways, but she wanted to surprise him. I was five when it happened. He realized his mistake and ran away. I don't know where he is now, I'm just glad he's gone."
"Oh Cor!" Molly gasped as she covered her mouth. "I'm so sorry."
"I know," he said, giving her a sad smile. "My Aunt and Uncle came over later that day and found me the closet. They raised me since."
"So your real name is Johnson?" Molly asked, he nodded.
"Yeah, but I changed it to my mothers maiden name as soon as I was old enough. I didn't want to carry my dad's name with me."
After telling each other their sad stories, they felt closer then before. They continued talking about anything that came to mind that they wondered if they would ever find someone like each other. And they wondered what the future would hold for them.
