Snips, Snails, and Puppy dog's tails
A/N: A promise is a promise, and I did promise I would get around to this or at least work with her on this.
This chapter is dedicated to Briar Four (hope you don't mind me calling you that), whose been begging me to do a chapter in which Peabody adopts her OC. To be honest, I didn't really like the idea at first, since if I added Briar into the story, then she would have to be in there for the rest of the thing and juggling three characters at once just seemed a little difficult to me, especially since I don't really know how she looks so act, so I decided to do an AU Doppelganger chapter. Today's chapter, we are joined by Miss Helen Pauper and her adopted girl Briar Four.
Pauper: Such a terrible pun that even Peabody would be proud of it. The surname Peabody comes from a Medieval nickname for a flashy dressing person. I'll let you guess the joke then ^^
Chapter 26 Sneak Peak summary: Sherman's first day at Preschool, with a special guest speaker (*cough*Peabody *cough*)
From The Desk Of Helen Pauper:
Hello out there, Helen Pauper and her girl, Briar here.
Well, not exactly here, for you see my girl and I are out and about, through the whole of time and space! Doing the usual, such as an educational venture and the occasional shopping. Lady things if you will. That is besides the point however, for I am leaving this note behind to explain a few things while we are out. First thing is first, I am going to be establishing the house rules (If you are reading this, then I assume you are in our house):
1: If you are in our house without permission, then kindly leave.
2: If you have our permission, then don't touch anything that looks expensive or relatively important unless told otherwise.
3: Don't do anything I wouldn't as you wait for us to return.
There you are, I hope this information was helpful to you, if not then please follow step one and leave the home ASAP.
-Miss Pauper, and Briar.
"Is anyone actually going to read that note, Pauper?" Briar asked, scrunching her nose up as her mother placed the note down onto the counter top.
"Of course not, but its a pre-caution that I take before all of our trips in the WABAC." The adoptive mother explained, shaking her head slowly before turning to the other.
"Oh! Are unplugging stuff, shutting off the lights, and locking the doors pre-cautions also?" Briar asked curiously, raising a thin eyebrow.
"Of course, and going to the bathroom is one also." Briar was given a stern look at this comment, but Briar only nodded her head as if to say 'I went already!', much to her mother's amusement. "Are you sure? You know that the bathrooms back in the day aren't as advanced as they are now, which is why I do not trust them."
"Yes! I already went!" The girl replied verbally, looking about ready to burst from excitement at the thought of a WABAC trip.
"Good girl, now come along, today we're going to visit-" Pauper was cut off by an excited Briar.
"Amelia Airheart?" She pipped up suddenly, her dark eyes widening in wonder at the thought.
"Thats Earhart, and no not today." Miss Pauper sighed, leading her daughter to their What-If Machine and directing her inside, taking note of the light n Briar's eyes dimming just ever so slightly. "Today, we will be visiting that world famous author, Mary Shelly."
"The author of Frankenstein!" This seemed to get the girl's attention fully once again. "J'aime le livre!"
"Your french has improved greatly, but save it for our trip when we visit Joan of Arc." Miss Pauper both scolded and praised.
"But you said that we wouldn't go there because of-" The little girl was again cut off by her adoptive mother.
"Now, now. I said we wouldn't go there at this day in age. Meaning you are far to young to witness such an event." The woman shrugged simply in reply.
"But I'm almost six already! Thats gotta be old enough!" Briar argued, sticking her tongue out idly.
"That isn't polite, Briar. Also, no buts. We are going to see Mary Shelly today." That was the end of that conversation, and with that the two girls entered the WABAC and took their respective places, with Pauper in the front near the window, and Briar at the control panel, awaiting orders.
Miss. Pauper brought a finger to her thin lips, and seemed to be deep in thought. Though, really when wasn't she in a great deal of thought? Now would be one of those times actually, as she already knew the date like the back of her hand and was now simply waiting to see how long her daughter's patience would hold out. Which obviously wasn't long because at that moment, her dark-skinned daughter began to grunt in annoyance.
"Where to, Miss Pauper?" Briar squeaked, pressing her hand onto the date nob.
"Now, set the WABAC for the date January 1st, 1818." Miss Pauper said cooly, crossing over to her daughter to make sure the date was set correctly.
"Okay ma'am." The little girl said as she turned a few nobs on the side panel of the WABAC. "And the place-"
By then, Miss. Pauper had already set the date and the WABAC smoothly transported the two girls to their destination, where they soon found Mary Shelly, holding the very first printed copy of her horror story 'Frankenstein.' Pauper smiled, and was about to begin her lecture on the author, when her daughter suddenly crossed her legs over the other and cut her off before she could say a single thing.
"Wait, I lied! I really have to go to the bathroom now!"
