Chapter 28- This Is How The Victors Party
Glimmer POV-
Clove and I woke up at 7 and started to get ready for school since it was Monday. After I got dressed (A pair of black leggings, a pink kitted sweater over top of a black tank top, and a grey lace scarf), I went to the washroom to do my hair and makeup as Clove got dressed, then she joined me. At 8 o'clock, the two of us headed down to the cafeteria for breakfast.
Per usual, the room fell silent as we entered and everybody in line parted in our wake. We each grabbed two pancakes and a drink then sat down at the Victor table. Finnick, Annie, Katniss, Madge, Peeta and Gale were already sitting down.
"So everybody knows about the Victor party tonight at our place?" Clove questioned, glancing around the table as everyone nodded. "Okay good, come at..." Clove glanced at me.
"Seven." I finished.
Cato, Marvel, Johanna and Olivia joined us at the table and Clove and I repeated ourselves to them.
After breakfast, I headed down to Math class with Madge and Olivia.
The day went by pretty fast seeing as the staff had a party of their own last night and were all experiencing different ranged hang overs. We could sit on our desks, throw wads of paper across the classroom, play on our phones, listen to music and even throw things at the teachers and we wouldn't get in trouble. Today is officially the best day in school history. I wish the teachers had parties all the time. Even the Principal is sleeping on the job! Let's just hope the School Board doesn't hear about this...
So basically, the whole day was one big free period. The only bad thing was that the Cafeteria cooks were sleeping too. Mid-way through her cooking, our main cook fell face first into the food. No way in Hell am I eating that. So for lunch, the Victors and I went to the mall's food court and had fatty burgers from McDonalds. By the time we had gotten back to school, we had already missed our next class. Seeing as the teachers didn't give a d*mn about what we did today, we all just skipped the rest of the day.
Clove and I went back to our dorm and started setting up for the party. It was currently 2:11 so we had a little less than 5 hours. I turned on the music to One Direction 'Best Song Ever' as Clove started to push the couches against the wall so there was room for dancing. When Clove and I plan parties: No one leaves disappointed. After all the couches were put aside, I started to blow up balloons of all colours as Clove stood on the chairs and hung up streamers.
The song changed to 'We Can't Stop' by Miley Cyrus and soon Clove and I were 'testing-out' the dance floor. I rented a disco ball from my father since ran a sort of dance and luxury business back home. Balloons of every colour; orange, pink, blue, green and yellow, were lying around the room; glittery rainbow streamers hung everywhere you looked. At 4:00 the disco ball arrived and I plugged it in then stood on a chair in the middle of the room. I had to place a few pillows on the chair before I was tall enough to reach the ceiling. I then placed the disco ball on a hook in the roof and nodded towards Clove. Clove turned on the power switch and the disco ball came to life. There were now colourfull sparkles moving and flashing around the room as Clove dimmed the lights. I turned up the volume to the music which was now playing 'Slow Down' by Selena Gomez; her newest single. I jumped off the chair, sending the pillows soaring through the air, and grabbed Clove's hands. I pushed the chair away and we started dancing. To be honest, we were both terrible dancers. I feel sorry for those who choose to dance with us tonight. We were both laughing our heads off as I twirled Clove, but accidentally let her hand slip from my grip and sent her spinning into the nearest couch. She hit head-first and ended up flipping off the back of it. My hands flew to my mouth and I rushed to see her.
Clove was lying on her back, head propped against the leg of the couch. Her arms were out wide, her butt was in the air since her legs were above her head, feet hooked on the top of the couch. She blew her hair away from her face and muttered, "This is so not the most comfortable position to be in." I laughed and unhooked her feet, stretching my hand out to her. She grasped hold and I pulled her to her feet.
We finished the decorating and ended up sprawled across the dance floor, exhausted and sweating. I moaned, "My legs hurt..."
Clove made a 'pfft' sound. "At least you didn't get attacked by a couch. My whole body aches."
There was knock on the door and I groaned. "Get it Clove." I mumbled into the pillow I was currently shoving my face into.
Across the room, I heard a muffled, "You get it."
I threw my pillow at her face and yelled, "Door's open!" As I heard them knock again.
There were mumbled voices on the other side of the door and I heard the knob jiggle as it was pushed open. There were 'oohs', 'awes' and 'woahs' as they all entered. I heard a laugh and lifted my head up enough to see everybody. "What happened to you guys?" Marvel asked. Clove and I looked at each other, then back to the others.
"Don't ask." We replied in unison, before letting our heads fall against the ground again. They all laughed. I decided it was time to get up. I put my arms out to brace myself and hauled my body to its feet. Everyone was here. There were bags on one of the tables holding the pop, chips and candy for the night. Suddenly, all went black. Clove had turned off the lights like we planned.
'Hey, what's going on?" Peeta asked.
"Yeah, what happened to the lights?" Annie questioned.
I crept silently over to the disco switch.
"Glimmer? Clove? What happened." Cato's low voice burst through the silence.
I switched on the disco ball and the room was immediately filled with vibrant colours. Everyone looked around in fascination. I changed the song to 'Light Em' Up' by Fall Out Boys, and blared it. "Let's dance!" I yelled over the music.
I saw Marvel cross the room towards me. I watched as he held his hand out to me and I blushed. "Want to dance?"
I laughed at the nervousness written across his face and shrugged my shoulders. "Sure, why not?" And smiled.
Marvel smiled and grabbed my hand, dragging me to the 'Dance Floor'. I laughed as he grabbed hold of both my hands and started lifting them up and down in the air, doing the wave. I stepped on his foot and we both laughed. He then twirled me into him so that my was back was against his chest. My arms were criss-crossed over my stomach, each held by one of Marvel's and we were swaying back and forth. At least Clove and I weren't the only ones who couldn't dance.
I saw Olivia dancing with Gale, Finnick trying to teach Clove how to dance, Madge and Cato dancing, Thresh and Johanna dancing, Peeta and Katniss dancing, and Annie and Beetee dancing. I knew Annie and Beetee were dancing just as friends, while everyone else wasn't, even though some of them may not know it themselves. Annie had a crush on the new guy at school, Maverick. And we could all tell that Beetee was crushing on Leevy. Though, every time he tried to get near her, Delly would stick her pointed nose in the air and stalk away, dragging Leevy with her. Although, from what I've seen, Leevy never wants to leave herself. She seems to be trying to get near Beetee as well, but Delly just won't let her. Delly hates the Victors. Yes, there is a reason behind that.
During the second week of school, we'd passed by Delly in the hall. She'd waved hello to us and smiled. I had been the only one to notice, but didn't return the gesture. I wish I had. I had been staring her way when she waved, but my mind was elsewhere. I'd been thinking of the new clothing store down town that I wanted to check out. I noticed her kind gesture too late, when she stuck her nose in the air and stocked off, fuming. I had tried to make it up to her the next day. I'd even dragged the others with me to apologize to her. I'd gone up to her at lunch, holding my tray of food. I said I was sorry, but she didn't seem to believe me. She hadn't gotten her lunch yet, so I'd tried to offer her mine, but tripped on someone's foot and dumped it all over her new dress. She yelled at me saying how I was a rude, ungrateful, spoiled brat, along with the rest of the Victors and left the room. She's never spoken to any of us since and pretends we don't exist.
I was pulled back to reality when Marvel pushed me away from his body and caught my wrists, turning me to face him. He pulled up against his body and laughed at my surprised expression. We stared into the other's eyes for a moment before we both started leaning in. We were mere inches away from the other's lips. Two inches. One inch-
I let go of his hands and walked over to the table of food. Shaking my head to clear my thoughts of what had just gone down with Marvel, I got out some bowls and cups from the cupboard. I opened two bags of chips and one bag of candy, then poured them into bowls. I plucked a chip from a bowl and popped it into my mouth. Taking the pop bottles from a bag I placed them beside a stack of cups. I poured myself a drink then turned to face the others as I leaned against the table, drinking my Dr. Pepper.
I almost kissed Marvel. I can't believe it. I've liked him since Freshmen year. I always thought that he thought of me as just a friend. I always wished he thought more. Apparently he does. I know I should've stayed there. Kissed him. But I want our first kiss to be in private, alone, and not influenced by some dumb party. I want it to happen on our own terms.
Throwing my cup in the garbage, I made my way back onto the dance floor and went over to dance with Finnick, seeing as Clove was now with Marvel. I saw Marvel glancing at me, trying to gain my attention, but I pointedly ignored him. It wasn't his fault, I just didn't want to deal with it right now. I wrapped my arms around Finn's neck and rested my head on his shoulder as he wrapped his arms around my waist and did the same to my own shoulder.
Finnick and I could do 'coupley' things together even though there wasn't anything romantic going on between the two of us. We have known each other since grade one and have always been there for each other. He was like a big brother to me, seeing as he was 4 months older than myself, and I'm like his little sister, besides Annie that is. He's my best friend. I met Clove in grade 6 and she's my second best friend. Her, Finnick and I have been joined-at-the-hips almost our entire lives. We planned to go here together and begged our parents to let us all go. We're always there for each other. I can tell Finnick anything, even my girl problems. He helped me out in middle school when I was being bullied by the b*tch of the school: Mirta. She thought she was all that. I wasn't the only person she bugged though. She went after all the prettiest girls in the school and tried to make them feel insecure about themselves. She'd almost gotten to me, when Finnick stepped up to her and threatened her to leave me alone. I never found out exactly what he had said, but it worked.
After about two hours of dancing, we all sat down and watched movies for the wrest of the night.
Around midnight, we concluded our party and everybody left to go sleep in their own dorms while Clove and I cleaned up. I turned off the disco ball and unplugged it. We had turned the music down so it was just quietly playing in the background since the both of us had slight headaches. Clove gathered all the chips and cups off the ground and tossed them carelessly into the garbage can. I took down all the streamers, scrunching them into balls and chucked them into the garbage can.
I lay down on the couch to take a five minute break from the cleaning. I thought about my almost-kiss with Marvel as I stared at the blurring wall. My eyes were slowly drooping closed, but I was determined to keep wide awake so I could finish cleaning.
Just think about the party Glimmer...
I slowly opened my eyes to continue with the cleaning to find it had gotten dark really fast.
"Clove?" I whispered through the darkness. "Clove are you there?" No answer.
I looked at the clock to find it was 3:30. I guess I did fall asleep. I rolled off the couch, landing with a quiet thud on my back. Grabbing the couch, I and hauled myself to my feet. I could hear Clove snoring quietly in her bed as I felt my way across the room to mine, the music still playing softly in the background. It was now playing 'We Are Young' by Fun.
"Ow." I yelped as my toe collided with a movie case. I groaned and kicked it away to who knows where in annoyance and found my bed. I pulled back the covers and climbed in, not bothering to change. I fell asleep immediately.
I had a lot of fun writing this chapter! lol I think that's the first time I've done a Glimmer POV. Correct me if I'm wrong. I hope you enjoyed the chapter! Please leave me your thoughts! :)
