Chapter 32- The Trip
Katniss POV-
So everything worked out great with Peeta's mother. After the three of us went out for dinner that time, she's talked to me quite often. At first, I wasn't sure about her- worried that she would start to dislike me again- but after a while, the worry stopped.
A couple weeks later, a miracle happened. Glimmer and Marvel finally got together after two years of annoying eye goggling, neither would admit to. Even now, four months later, they are still together and perfect for each other.
Late April, Maverick had come up to us out of nowhere, asking if he could talk to Annie for a minute. I'd given her a look telling her 'Go on, you know you want to,' and when she came back, she announced the two of them were together. I couldn't have been happier for her.
Cato and Madge are head-over-heels for each other and are, no doubt, the cutest couple I know.
Olivia and Gale are like two lost puppies in love- they never let the other out of their sight, unless they have to in situations like, class, sleeping and using the washroom.
As for Finnick and Clove... well it's obvious that they have feelings for each other, but no one's made a move yet. Although, I don't think that'll be a problem much longer. They've known each other for years, and they're finally letting their feelings show, even if it's just in small things such as walking down the halls together, playfully messing around all day, smiling every time their eyes meet.
Johanna is the same as usual. She's single and loving it.
Just last week the group of us marched up to Delly and Leevy, ignoring Delly's protests to leave her alone and apologized to her. Every single one of us. We told her that we were sorry for ignoring her, (even though most of weren't even ignoring her in the first place. We just didn't notice her), that the spill on her dress was a complete accident, and that we all wanted to try being friends. She'd stared at for a long, hard moment, as if trying to figure out if we were lying, but after she realized we were being truthful, she smiled, and agreed to take a shot at friendship. Now, after just a week, she and Leevy are actually really close with all of us and are officially part of our group.
Now that Delly isn't keeping Leevy away from Beetee, the two of them are now together. They're probably the brainiest couple I know, yet I couldn't imagine them with anyone else.
Peeta and I couldn't be better. After we got through the whole issue with his mother, we seemed closer. Around mid-May, my mother had phoned me and asked for me and Peeta to come down for a visit, I hadn't seen her since Spring Break when I'd gone down alone, but she really wanted to meet Peeta. So we'd gone down for the weekend and Peeta got to know my family a bit more. He and Prim actually got along quite well. He taught her how to paint and bake, while she taught him a little bit about herbs and doctors.
School's just about over. Last week exams had taken place and I received an A on every single one, except for Math. That, I got a B. This week is only a three-day week full of fun. Today all of the Grad students are heading down to Disneyland while the rest of the school gets a free day to themselves. Tomorrow night is Prom and the following day is Graduation.
Shaking myself from my thoughts, I looked outside the window of the school bus and smiled when I saw Disneyland in view. I laughed to myself as I saw Gale throw a balled up piece of paper at Marvel's head, who then threw it right back. Peeta held my hand in his as he talked to Finnick across the isle.
"We're going on Splash Mountain first, and nobody's changing my mind," Finnick stated.
I grinned to myself and reached my free hand up, poking Madge's shoulder from where she sat in the seat in front of me with Cato. She turned around to face me, grabbed the edge of the seat, and rested her chin on the top.
"So where do you want to go first Kat?" She asked.
I thought for a moment. "How about the Pirates of the Caribbean ride?"
Madge smiled. "Sounds great! I'll tell the rest of the girls."
I laughed. "Alright. The boys are going on Splash Mountain first."
She sighed and flitted her eyes over to Finnick for a brief moment. "So I've heard."
We both laughed.
Once the bus stopped, Effie stood up at the front. She'd been the first adult to volunteer to join us, so the school has a filler secretary for the day. She had her blonde hair curled as always, wore a pink dress that went down to her knees with 3-inch sleeves and pink high heels.
"Alright students, you are free to walk around the parks of Disneyland, as long as you are with at least one other person at all times. I will be staying around the entrance to the Park in case any of you need me. Everyone must return back to the entrance by 4 p.m. Am I clear?"
A chorus of, "Yes Effie," made its way around the bus.
Effie smiled and clapped her hands together. "Well now, go off and have fun!"
The bus was suddenly filled with cheering as we all rushed out the door and into the park.
After going through the front area where they let us in, Madge, Annie, Glimmer, Leevy, Delly, Olivia, Clove, Johanna and I waved goodbye to the guys and headed over to the Pirates of the Caribbean boat ride.
Around 12:30, we were out of breath and our lungs were hurting from screaming on all the rides we went on as we met up with the guys for lunch. I saw them talking together in a group and laughing at something Finnick had said. Pointing them out to the rest of the girls, I laughed as Cato swatted a bee away from his ear.
Deciding on a restaurant, we headed over and picked a table. Once I received my order, I made my way over to our occupied table and plopped down next to Peeta. He planted a quick kiss on my cheek, before reaching for my hand beneath the table and holding it there while he used his free hand to eat his lunch.
Picking up a curly fry, I laughed as Cato tried to feed Madge one, but missed and ended up whacking her nose. Her face was priceless.
We all laughed together and talked about the rides we had gone on so far, deciding to go on the rest together.
At 1:30, after our stomachs had settled, we went down to Toontown and said hello to Mickey, Pluto, Donald and the rest of the toons. We got pictures taken, autographs signed, and enjoyed some rides, before walking over to the Disney Castle for us girls to get some pictures with the Princesses.
After many, many rides, and quite a bit of screaming, three o'clock found us buying cotton candy from one of the near-by stands and sitting down on a bench.
We rested for about ten minutes before walking around the parks, gathering up more photos with the characters and receiving more autographs.
Too soon, it was 3:55 and time for us to return to school. As we reached the entrance to Disneyland where Effie had told us all to me up, we chatted away, talking about everyone's favourite rides and least favourite rides.
Once everyone had arrived and Effie had gone over the attendance about four times to make sure she wasn't missing anyone, we all took our seats back on the bus. This time I sat with Annie while Peeta sat with Maverick.
As we drove through the city, I rested my head against the window and watched the buildings pass by. The day had been pretty eventful, and wasn't one I would be forgetting anytime soon.
Closing the door to our dorm, Madge and I fell upon our beds.
"What a day," Madge said to the ceiling, her arms spread out like an eagle on her quilt.
"But a fun day," I pointed out, holding my index in the air.
I could hear Madge nod by the sound of her quilt crinkling. She then stood up, threw back her covers and burrowed herself beneath them. "Goodnight." Her voice was muffled by the thickness of her bedding.
Laughing, I replied, "It's only 4:30."
She removed her hand from beneath the sheets and waved it off at me. "Then wake me up for dinner in an hour."
I chuckled. "Will do."
While she took her nap, I grabbed the book form my nightstand and lay on my stomach, kicking my feet in the air, and continued to read from where I had left off a few days ago.
Five-thirty rolled around and I placed my bookmark back into its spot and returned to my feet, stretching out my arms. Padding over to Madge's bed, I poked her cheek gently.
"Madge..." I said in a sing-song voice.
Nothing.
"Madge..." I repeated, poking her again.
A groan.
"Madge."
A pillow thrown across the room.
"Madge!"
Madge jumped so hard, she fell out of her bed and on to the floor.
"What!" She cried, looking up at my through tired eyes.
Clutching my stomach, I laughed at her reaction. "You told me to wake you up at 5:30 so we could go down for dinner."
She blinked and stared at me for a moment before turning her head to to face the clock. "Oh. Right."
"Come on." I grabbed her hands as she stepped on my feet and I pulled her up.
We reached the cafeteria and grabbed a tray of tonight's meal: Spaghetti and meatballs. The students had a choice of either eating in the cafeteria, going to a campus restaurant, or going out for dinner somewhere else.
Nobody else was here yet besides Annie, so we sat down beside her and ate our food.
One by one, or sometimes two's, the others entered the cafeteria. Cato sat down next to Madge, and Peeta beside me.
I felt my phone buzz in my pocket and pulled it out to see a text message from my mother.
What time is Graduation on Wednesday again?
My fingers danced across the key pad as I typed my reply.
Doors open at 5, but it starts at 5:30 till 8.
She sent back a quick 'thanks' before I turned my phone back off and continued to eat my meal.
"I had a great time today," Peeta said to me.
I smiled, remembering the trip to Disneyland once again. "Me too." Resting my head on his shoulder, I suddenly realized how tired I was and thought about how smart Madge was to have taken a nap.
Peeta saw the yawn escape my mouth and checked his watch. I flicked my eyes towards it too to see that it was only 6:49. He grabbed my hand and brought me up with him as he stood up. "You should go to sleep, you seem really tired."
Madge then piped up, "I'll go with her. I'm still pretty tired myself." As if to prove her point, she yawned and gave Cato a peck on the cheek before standing up.
We said goodbye to the others, headed back to our dorm and changed into our pyjamas. I fell asleep not too long after.
A/N: Hope you all liked it! And again, sorry for the wait!
So there is only about 2 or 3 chapters left, plus the epilogue, before this story is finally finished!
Leave a review, they always make me smile! :)
