Hey guys, sorry for the long wait. I was trying to think of ideas for this chapter and while I did work pretty hard on this (as in hours of effort) I'm not super proud of the way it turned out. Just forgive me, and I hope you haven't lost interest. I'm also starting another pokemon fic, that's going to be AU but with a ton of OCs so wait for that one. Meanwhile, I hope you like this chapter more than I did. Thanks for all your support so far, I really appreciate all of you!
Leaf paced nervously outside the big wooden door to her dorm. She bit her lip and paused. How in the world was she supposed to tell her friends about this? She thought back to earlier that afternoon.
"Leafy, you have to come. I'm not going without you." Gary whined, looking at Leaf with big puppy eyes. Said brunette sighed and ran a hand through her long brown locks.
"Sorry, Gary, I can't. Dawn has an audition that day and it would be really rude-""
"But she'll understand! I mean she has a million auditions in her future, but a party like this only comes around once in a decade."
Leaf rolled her eyes. "Stop exaggerating you go to parties every weekend. I'm not missing the audition."
"But this is a special party. There are going to be people from at least five other schools!"
Gary grabbed Leaf's arm before she could leave and turned her around, looking seriously into her eyes.
"Come on Leafy. I'm not going without you."
Leaf blushed as she remembered the scene and how good it had felt to kick him afterwards.
Sly bastard deserved it.
Nevertheless, Gary Oak had somehow charmed her into doing something she disagreed with for the millionth time in her life. She straightened her gray dress and caught sight of the golden bracelet on her wrist. The one he had gotten her for her birthday last year. As much of a idiotic playboy Gary was, Leaf knew he could be thoughtful and that bracelet was proof. She had been discreetly (or so she thought) eyeing it for half a year at the mall and was pleasantly surprised to see it on her bed on the day of her birthday with a green bear and a birthday card with a crappy poem on it. Sure, Misty had freaked and changed the locks on their front door, because he had somehow acquired the key, but the sweetness of it all warmed Leaf's heart.
And then she saw him with his new girlfriend the next day and all bitter thoughts about him came rushing back to her and she ended up throwing the bear into the trashcan . The brunette shook her head and straightened her posture before bravely opening the door. She was immediately greeted with the sight of all three of her friends on the couch with a giant bowl of popcorn and deeply occupied with their typical Friday night movie marathon.
May already had dry tears on her face, being the one in the group most compassionate and prone to crying during movies. Even Misty had watery eyes and suddenly Leaf felt like it was a bad time to break the news.
"Leaf! Where were you? This movie is so depressing, we need your jokes like now." Dawn got up and tackled the poor girl in a bear hug, which, Leaf noted, was surprisingly strong for such a tiny person.
"Um, nowhere special really." Leaf replied nervously. Dawn didn't seem to notice and dragged Leaf down to the couch with her and threw a fluffy red blanket over the two of them.
"Popcorn?" May asked quietly from Leaf's other side, giving her a small smile. Leaf returned the smile and took a few pieces.
"So the girl in this movie is so depressing. Her parents totally left her and she has to support herself and this asshole of a guy is trying to rob her-" Dawn's rant was interrupted by the sound of her cell phone ringing. The blunette glanced at the caller ID, annoyed.
"Excuse me for a minute." Dawn walked into the kitchen, phone pressed to her ear. Misty paused the movie and turned to Leaf.
"I don't buy it."
Leaf raised an eyebrow. "You don't buy what?"
"That you were 'nowhere special'. I bet you were rendezvousing with Gary."
"Was NOT!" Leaf yelled, throwing a piece of popcorn at the redhead who just caught it in her mouth.
"Is that really what's going on here Leaf? You were on a date with Gary instead of spending time with us?" May feigned a look of hurt. Leaf started to sweat.
"About that-"
"Yeah! Totally not cool. Sisters before misters." Misty teased Leaf who was growing red.
"Actually I think it was chicks before dicks." May added.
"Sisters before misters is more appropriate." Misty argued.
"But if guys get to use 'bros before hoes' I think we get to say 'chicks before dicks.'"
"But that makes us just as bad as them!"
"What are you, five? I think high school students are entitled to profanities."
"GUYS!" Leaf interjected before Misty could retort. "I have to tell you something."
Misty and May stopped and looked at their friend expectantly. Leaf let out a breath.
"I-"
"LEAF VALERIA GREEN!" Dawn stormed into the living room and proceeded to tackle the brunette. "How dare you!"
"How dare I what?" Leaf asked, confused as the petite girl smacked her shoulder repeatedly.
"How dare you get invited to a party that's on the day of my audition, accept the invitation, and then not tell ME!"
"Woah there, back up." Misty said with a shocked expression. "It isn't that bad that you're going to a party but how could you not tell us?"
"Guys I'm sure she has an explanation-" May was promptly cut off by Dawn's whining voice.
"I think we're all missing the main point here! It's on the day of my audition that decides my whole future. I've been waiting for this day since I was five!"
"Can we all just stop and listen to what I have to say!" Leaf exclaimed, already exhausted from dealing with the two raging girls and a silent May. "Gary invited me this afternoon. And the asshole blackmailed me with those bath pictures, you know the one where Gary walked in on me in the shower two years ago? So now I have to go to this stupid party full of stupid people and I'm sorry, I was about to tell you guys but-"
"Gary invited you?" Misty interrupted.
"Yeah, that's what I said."
"Well why didn't you say so sooner? Of course you can go if Gary invited you, it's about time you two became an item!" Dawn squealed, completely over her previous rage. Leaf blinked.
"Hold on, who did you think would invite me? And we are not an item!"
"Well, that phone call I just got was from Ally who used to dance down at Lace Studio, I hate her she's a total bitch, and she told me that someone told her that you were invited by this chick named Marissa a week ago to go to a party this Sunday."
"If she's a total bitch, why would you believe her?" Leaf asked incredulously. Dawn looked away sheepishly.
"Yeah, um, now that I think about it, it doesn't make that much sense. Sorry."
Leaf sighed but smiled at her. "It's okay, just, are you sure you're okay with me going? I mean, I can still cancel."
"Oh it's totally fine. You can come next time. I wouldn't want those pictures out, the people at our school would give you hell."
"Thanks Dawn, I'll make it up to you I promise."
"No problem hon, just make that bastard fall head over heels and then you can swipe those pictures back."
Leaf rolled her eyes and went upstairs, completely forgetting the movie night. As soon as the girl left, Dawn turned to Misty with a devious gleam in her eyes."
"So, Mist, Gary is a total perv and I would not feel safe with the two of them alone all night..."
Misty sighed. "Okay, got it, you want me to go with her right?"
Dawn squealed. "You know me so well! Give us all the juicy updates on them cause heavens knows we're not going to get anything out of her." Dawn jerked a thumb towards the stairs where Leaf had been previously.
"Who'll go with you to your recital though?"
Dawn turned to May and smiled. "May of course. I wouldn't want you to go to the party with all those nasty guys there, they would totally eat up your innocence."
"Hold on, I'm 16 not 5!" May whined as Dawn ruffled her hair teasingly.
The next day, Saturday, was spent with Dawn dragging the four girls to the mall for dress shopping. May sat on a bench in the dressing room and watched as Dawn threw dress after dress at her other two friends for about three hours. She suppressed a laugh as Leaf stumbled out of the dressing room with a dress clearly meant for a ten year old. After a lively argument or two and a lot of flying dresses, the four girls had managed to make it out of the store and back home. By the time Sunday evening rolled around, the house was in a complete frenzy. Dawn was running around in her room, where all four of them were currently stationed.
"Guys, I can't find my leotard. This is bad!" The petite blunette was hyperventilating.
"Dawn, I think I found it under the sink!" Leaf called from the bathroom, where she was doing her hair and makeup. May was fixing up Misty's hair. She, herself, was already dressed in a loose, sleeveless green shirt, skinny jeans, and cream sandals.
"There, done!" May proclaimed proudly, turning off the curler. Misty stood up and admired her bouncy curls in the mirror. The redhead had on a deep red dress with thick straps and a plunging neckline. The dress hugged her figure and loosened ever so slightly around the hips before ending near the knees. Accompanied with red ballet flats and smoky eye shadow, the girl gave off major vibes of sophistication.
"Phew, I'm don-woah!" Leaf exited the bathroom and looked over Misty's outfit. "You look awesome, Mist!"
"Thanks, but was a dress really necessary? Isn't this just another high school party?"
"No, it's actually at a club this time. Starfall I think. The person who's throwing the party, his parents own the place."
"It's at a club?" Misty's eyes bulged. Leaf rolled her eyes.
"Don't worry! It's a strict, no-alcohol club. It's for teenagers. But I bet someone's going to sneak some in, so just avoid them."
Misty still looked perplexed but relaxed a little.
"By the way Leaf, you look great." May added and Leaf blushed a little. She was in a tight, long-sleeved lime green dress that modestly covered her cleavage and all skin down to just above her knees. But then she turned around and the dress was completely backless to the bottom of her back, with just two black strings criss-crossed at the top. Her hair was in a high, tight ponytail that had been straightened and hair sprayed into place. On her feet were black, two-inch strappy heels.
"Alright, guys I'm ready, let's go!" Dawn jumped out of her closet in her pink leotard and threw on a Lace Dance Studios sweatshirt and some sweat pants. Her hair was in a tight bun and there was a ton of makeup on her face.
The four girls proceeded to hop into separate cars.
"Tell us how the audition goes!" Misty waved from the drivers seat and drove off towards the party. May buckled herself into the passenger seat of the car.
"Are you sure you want to drive-"
"I got this May!" Dawn cheered. May gulped. Since Dawn was the youngest out of the four of them, having skipped kindergarten, May assumed the responsibility of teaching her how to drive. And that was a hell she never wanted to experience again. The blunette could not drive to save her life.
"Alright if you say so." May said hesitantly as Dawn backed out of the driveway and straight into the stop sign.
Misty pulled into the parking garage and parked the car. She turned to Leaf with a stern look in her eyes.
"Let's set some ground rules here."
"Here we go again." Leaf sighed. "Go on, what can't I do tonight?"
"You are not allowed to get drunk no matter what. I'm not about to drive with a chick who plots murder when she's wasted."
"I do not!"
"And also, no going into a room alone with Gary, or any other guy for that matter. That's dangerous. No grinding either. It's actually disgusting. And if I see that dress come off-"
"What the hell, Mist, I'm not a stripper calm down!"
"Okay, well I'll be watching you."
Leaf rolled her eyes for the umpteenth time that day. "Anything else, mother?"
"As long as you understand the rules, we can go. You do remember them right?"
"I get it, If I'm drunk or I dry hump a random guy, you will castrate my imaginary dick. Can we go now?"
Misty smiled. "Let's go."
The two walked out of the garage and to the club right across the street. It was really a nice looking place. The exterior design was very striking. The outside was made of black marble and some areas were concave in interesting shapes making it look like the building had just been hit by a ton of meteors that left behind some silver sparkle. The word "Starfall" was in fancy silver writing on the front and two giant bouncers were on either side of the tinted glass doors. Leaf gulped.
"Hey, I didn't really bring an invitation. Do you think they'll let us in?"
"Just play it cool." Misty whispered. Easy for her to say. Leaf was terrible at "playing it cool." She always felt weird so naturally, she was gonna look weird.
"Do you two have invitations?" One of the bouncers asked just as the two girls were about to enter.
"Um, you see, my friend over here forgot to ask her boyfriend for one. Do you think you could let us in?" Misty asked without a stutter or a pause. The bouncer contemplated her for a second and then shook his head.
"I'm sorry miss, but if you have no invitation, you're not allowed in."
"But-"
"I'm sorry, is there a problem with my guests?" Gary walked out from the doors.
"Mr. Oak! You know these two?"
"Yes I invited them and forgot to give them invitations. I'm really sorry. Come with me." He motioned towards the two girls who blinked and quickly ran after the boy.
"Thanks Gary you really saved us there." Leaf exhaled. Gary smirked at her.
"You look great in that dress, Leafy. You'd look better without it though."
"Your pick up lines are so bad I think I'm rotting. Come on Mist, let's go in." Leaf completely ignored Gary's whines and brushed past him, dragging Misty along with her. Just before they could enter, Leaf was pulled away from Misty by none other than Gary.
"Sorry, Leaf but I told everyone you're my date so we kind of have to go in together."
"You idiot!" Leaf screamed smacking the poor boy over the head. Misty rolled her eyes and left the two. As she entered the main area, she was greeted with strobe lights, smoke effects, and pounding music. Out of the corner of her eye she saw two people making out on a table and a group cheering them on. Straight ahead, people were grinding against each other in sync with the music. The place was really nice, but the entire thing was really not Misty's scene. She didn't dislike parties, she disliked what went on at parties. Like clothed sex. And she had seen enough of that from the parties her sisters had dragged her to when she was far too young to even step foot into a high school party. Thinking about the three of them made Misty's blood boil and the pounding music was not helping. She stalked over to the table which had all sorts of snacks on it including fancy looking pastries and cookies. She sniffed the punch bowl lightly and smiled. Good. It wasn't spiked as far as she could tell.
"Misty!" Misty helped herself to a cookie and ignored whoever it was that was calling her.
"Mist!" Misty turned around only to come face-to-face with Ash Ketchum. She blushed and started choking on her food.
"Hey are you okay?" Ash yelled over the music. She nodded, still sounding like she was hacking up a lung. Ash soothingly rubbed her back until she stopped and took deep breaths.
"Sorry you surprised me a little." Misty smiled at the boy. He smiled back. And for some reason, Misty's heart fluttered. She pushed the thought aside.
Idiot, he's a rival. Nothing more. A RIVAL.
"So what are you doing here?" Ash asked.
"I was dragged here by a friend. You?"
"Oh, well one of my best friends is throwing this party. You should meet him, he's a pretty nice guy." Ash answered, still smiling at the girl. After a few moments of silence, Misty broke it with the single most stupid line she could ever have said.
"Well this is awkward."
As soon as she said it, Misty's brain went into overdrive.
Idiot idiot idiot! Why the hell would you say that. Talk about not cool at all! Oh my gosh he's gonna laugh...
True to her suspicions, Ash burst out laughing.
"Come on, there's another dance floor upstairs that's quieter. We can go talk up there." Ash grabbed her hand and led her up the stairs, oblivious to the flush on the redhead's face.
Once the two were upstairs, Misty saw why this club was really so great. The entire room looked like it was filled with stars. The music was still exciting and loud, but not quite as loud as it had been downstairs and the floor has several dance floors that were elevated with glass so it looked like they were floating. A giant bar, which Misty hoped only served non-alcoholic beverages, was to the side of the room and there were a lot of modern couches where people were casually sitting and chatting, unlike what was going on on the first floor. Misty automatically decided that this was her favorite club. Not that she'd been to many others, of course.
"Isn't it amazing?" Ash asked a very star struck Misty. She just nodded.
"Yeah, it really is. I'm normally not into this sort of thing but the design is genius." Misty replied.
"Well, this isn't even my favorite floor."
"There are more?" Misty's eyes widened. Ash nodded and smiled.
"This club has five floors. The first four have dance floors and the last one, well, the last one is pretty awesome."
"What's on the fifth floor?"
"You wanna go see? Come on! I'll take you!" Before Misty could protest, a very eager Ash was dragging her to the stairs.
"This. Completely. SUCKS." Dawn slumped down in the passenger seat of the car. May was now in the driver's seat, driving them back towards their dorm.
"Well, I guess it's sort of their fault for misinforming you." May added, trying to be comforting. It didn't work. Dawn was still sulking by the time May had pulled into their driveway.
"How was I supposed to know that they moved the audition date? They didn't even email me or call me or anything!"
"Well, now you have more time to prepare!" May said optimistically. It was true; Dawn had been freaking out about being under prepared, weeks before the audition so the extra month of time should be a blessing. However, Dawn was still upset.
"I was so excited and ready today though. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait."
"Leaf and Misty should be home by midnight, so we can all watch a movie if they aren't too tired by then." May unlocked their front door and walked in, followed shortly by Dawn.
"That's right! We can crash the party!" Dawn exclaimed, excitement painting her features once more. May looked at her uneasily.
"You mean you can crash the party. There is no way I'm going."
Dawn pouted almost immediately.
"Come on May, you haven't been to a single high school party in your entire life. When are you going to start living?"
"I'm perfectly fine 'living' without partying. I'm actually dying to read this new book." May walked over to the kitchen counter and held up a book she had bought while they were at the mall the previous day.
"No, you're going! I even have the perfect dress for you!" Dawn complained, yanking the book from May's hand and refusing to give it back.
"When did you get me a dress?" May asked, trying to grab the book back. The brunette was starting to get a little annoyed. She did not like parties at all. Because parties meant people. Certain people. And those certain people made her extremely nervous whether they talked to her or not.
"Come on. At least go with me to check this place out. It couldn't hurt to see."
"We won't get in without invitations! It's Starfall for God's sake, it's like a premium club with special access only on special occasions." May finally grabbed the book back and smoothed out the little fold that was now on the cover.
Dawn paused for a moment and May sighed, relieved that the blunette had given up. In only a minute thought, the mischievous look was back in Dawn's eyes.
"I know a way we can get in."
Hope you enjoyed! I worked pretty hard on this.
Ciao,
Snow
