Chapter 5
Razer watched from a distance as the young human trained with Kilowog. For someone so young, the human was very determined to master his ring. The Blue Lantern also could tell that there was something about the red haired human. It was like the child was hiding something. Something dark.
Razer would talk to the human when it was the right time but for now he was watch the human that he felt he had a bond with.
Meanwhile, Wally was doing his best to survive Kilowog's training which was something that reminded the speedster of training with Batman and Black Canary. But he wasn't going to let down his uncle and Hal. Wally wanted to prove to the Green Lantern Corps that he could handle the training and was going to just that even if it killed him and it might just do just that.
Two hours and many bumps and bruises later, Wally was order to take a break by Kilowog who wasn't going easy on him but was scared at what the kid's uncle would do to him. That blond haired man was scary when it came to his nephew. Kilowog could see the love that Barry Allen had for Wally even though Barry wasn't related by blood. But than again Blood never made a family.
Wally was taken to the dining hall where he got a large amount of food and sat down in an empty seat in the corner of the room. He was on purpose not mingling with the older Lanterns as he didn't want them to start telling him tales of Nuallan as no matter how many times he said that he was not Nuallan, the older Lanterns wouldn't see it that way.
Wally started to did into his food when he saw a shadow of his shoulder. The speedster let out a groan mentally and prepared for stories of Nuallan. He was surprised when the shadow turned out to be a Blue Lantern that he had seen when he had first arrived on Oa.
"Do you mind if I sit here?" The Blue Lantern asked.
"Sure, on one condition. Please don't start telling me stories of Nuallan. I am NOT him." Wally replied as he motioned for the Blue Lantern to take a seat at the table.
The Blue Lantern let out a small laugh as he sat down. "You don't have anything to worry about with that. I never knew Nuallan as I was around your age when he died and my planet was at war."
"Oh thank God, not the war on your planet but the fact that you aren't telling stories about Nuallan. I have heard so many stories about him that my head is spinning." Wally replied as he took a bite of his food.
Razer let a smile come to his face that the way the young human was talking. Obviously, he had been bugged so many times of stories about Nuallan that it was as Hal would have said 'driving him nuts'.
The two sat in silence for a few minutes before Razer asked Wally once he was done eating if he would like to do some training with him.
Wally jumped at the chance of being able to train with someone other than Kilowog. Not that Wally was saying that Kilowog was a bad teacher, in fact he was a great teacher but Wally needed a break from his training.
Razer smiled again at the young human. He was indeed hiding something. No one should ever be that happy.
"If you would follow me please." Razer told Wally as he got up out of his seat.
Wally inhaled the last of his food and followed Razer out of the room after he threw away his plate. The Blue Lantern lead Wally to a room that looked like it was used for meditating and relaxing.
"I thought that we were going to be doing some training." Wally asked as Razer took a seat on the floor and motioned for Wally to do the same.
"We are. There is more than one way to train. One is Kilowog's way and the other is to train your mind since out ring powers come from a solid mind. In other words, we need to have a clear mind in order to use our rings." Razer explained.
"You for some reason remind me of Hal." Wally said as he sat down in front of Razer.
"I should. He was one of the ones that helped me deal with my past as a Red Lantern." Razer replied waiting for the response that the young child would have.
"But you have a blue ring?" Wally asked curiously as to why a Red Lantern would become a Blue Lantern.
"A long time ago I was filled with rage as I grew up on a planet that was in civil wars for as long as I could remember. I was about 21 when I told my loving wife that I was going to be a soldier. She tried to convince me to become a teacher but I wouldn't budge. I thought that by becoming a soldier I could protect her and many others. But sadly, she was killed in what I thought was the fighting. My hatred turned to rage and I was give the ring of a Red Lantern. Over the next few years, I killed many Lanterns but each time I killed I felt more and more remorse until the time I met Hal and Kilowog. I was prepared to died by combat but Hal refused to kill me and sent me to prison where I was granted a place on Hal's ship when I saved then from the prison Guards that were in your terms spiders that were eating the prisoners. Kilowog and I never got along until the battle with the Red Lanterns which is where I learned that Atrocitus was behind my wife's murder and made me into a Red Lantern. Over time I began to feel different and sought to find peace for my past actions. I did find a little peace when I met one of the first members of the Blue Lantern Corps. But it was only when Aya died did I finally have the hope needed to become a Blue Lantern as I don't believe and never will believe that Aya is gone which is my hope." Razer told Wally.
"And the Green Lantern Corps will never fully trust you because of your past?" Wally asked knowing the answer.
"That is right. I do not blame them due to me killing many fellow Lanterns." Razer replied.
"You remind me of a fellow teammate. Her name is Artemis. She is the daughter of assassins and was afraid that the team that I am a part of wouldn't trust her do to her past. But she is not her parents and never will be." Wally told Razer.
"This Artemis is to you what Illana was to me." Razer replied.
"Yeah, she is. She means the world to me. I don't know what I would do without her." Wally said.
"Have you told her your feelings?" Razer asked as he used his ring to bring over some candles.
"I've tried too but I can't for some reason." Wally answered.
"My advice is tell her how you feel for you are not granted another day in this life." Razer replied as he lit the candles.
"Now the first thing we are going to do is learn to clear your mind and get rid of any negative thoughts. Which I know that you have as I have seen me in you." Razer told Wally as he looked him in the eye.
"I don't know what you are talking about." Wally replied a little nervous.
"Child, I was not born yesterday. You have somethings in you past that is hurting you. I have seen the way your uncle is around you. There such a thing as being to protective of someone. I also guess that Hal does know your past. You need to in order fully master your ring is to let go of your past which is something that I have done." Razer told Wally who was slightly glaring at him.
Wally looked at the Blue Lantern with anger. How could some one that he only just met know about his past with his father?
"How could you know about my past?" Wally asked.
"The faint markings on your back are to random to have gotten in battle. Plus Hal told us that Speedsters heal quickly and do not scar. So your scars have to have been before you received your powers. Also it's your eyes. They hide pain." Razer replied.
Wally took a deep breath before he spoke as he knew for some reason he could trust Razer as he had a past as well. "My father would beat me all the time to the point that I thought that wouldn't be alive before I was 5. There was one point that I really thought my father would kill but I was saved by my uncle who you may not believe is not related to me by blood. He married my father's sister who is my aunt. Anyway, Barry found out about the abuse and filed for custody for me which as you can tell he got. My aunt and uncle tried to get to be a normal kid but it took time as my father would hit me for the simplest things. Like for example if I left a dish in the sink or I shut the door to loudly. My life was hell before Barry came into my life. My life was filled with so much anger that I wanted to kill myself but Barry helped me. He helped me become who I am today. But what I want to know is why this is any of your damn business!" Wally yelled the last part at Razer who only smirked as the Blue Lantern pointed down to Wally's ring which was glowing brighter than it had ever done.
"It was not any of my business but I only made you tell me this for you will be able to use your ring to it's fullest power. You were hindered by your past and finally talking about it made you be more in tune with your ring. I am sorry that I made you bring up bad memories but it was needed to make you in tune with your ring." Razer pointed out. "Also it was it was to show the other Lanterns that you are not in fact Nuallan as from the videos I have just seen of him, he could never get his ring to shine that bright."
Wally looked down at his ring. It was shining so bright that Wally had to cover his eyes. Wally remembered that the Rings are linked to your emotions based on the color of the ring. While Wally had the will power to become a Lantern, he also lacked the confidence to fully empower his ring due to his past. It had taken someone who didn't even know him to help him get his past out.
"Thanks for the help Razer." Wally replied.
Razer nodded his head in acknowledgment. He had done what he intended to do. He had gotten the young human to come to terms with his past and thus harness the full power of his ring.
"Now, how about you go kick Kilowog's behind for all the 'torture' he had been doing to you." Razer replied with a smile that showed his canine teeth which Wally knew what it meant.
"Oh believe me, I plan to kick Kilowog's butt but I do respect him as a trainer do to the fact that because of his training the Lanterns come home." Wally replied.
"As do I." Razer said. It was true that Razer did now respect Kilowog and his training as it did bring the Green Lanterns who trained under him home.
Well, I better get going before my uncle bring the out the search party." Wally said with a laugh and got up off of the floor.
Razer also got off the floor and headed out of the room. The Blue Lantern had a feeling that he and Wally had just struck up a friendship due to having a past filled with rage and anger. But also they were saved by someone who cared enough to help them.
Next chapter Wally returns to Earth and hides the fact that he's a Green Lantern from the team.
