"Tell us everything." David ordered. I had found him and Paul by the railings soon after I returned to the boardwalk, neither looked pleased by what I had just told them.

"I was walking and then I turned round and she was just there. Turns out, she was the person I saw on the beach." I said, turning to Paul whose eyebrows rose.

"So you did see someone?"

I nodded, "She said I didn't freak out like she expected when I saw her vampire face and I told her she wasn't the first I had met and-"

"Oh that's just great, you go spilling the beans about us right away?" David snapped.

I glared at him, "She already knew, she said she could smell a scent off me, it must have been Paul's. She said she could tell I spend a lot of time with you, that your scent nearly drowns out my human one. Then she got all freaked out, said "it can't be" and then flew off!"

They both shared a glance, "If her senses are that good, she ain't a newbie, man." Paul pointed out.

"How old did she look?" David asked me.

I thought back to my first impressions of her human face, "In her twenties."

"Oh because that's real specific."

I flinched at David's cutting tone, getting a little bit pissed off, "Lay off her man." Paul said before I could open my mouth, he gave David a stern look before his face softened as he looked back at me, "Early, mid, or late twenties?"

"I'd say early to mid, not much past that. She has short dark hair, she's taller than me but not too much."

David thought for a second before turning to Paul, "Did you turn a girl and not tell us?"

Paul looked at David like he had two heads, "Are you crazy?!"

"She obviously recognised your scent and that's what's freaked her out. Why else would she have ran off like that? I'm just trying to figure out how she knows who you are."

Paul shook his head, "I never turned anyone, man. And I never let anyone away, either. So I don't know how she knows me."

"Was there anyone with her?" David asked me.

"Not that I saw."

He narrowed his eyes, "I hate rogues, they mess everything up. And you know someone who won't be happy about this. I'm gonna go see if I can find her before someone else does."

My eyebrows knitted together at the emphasis David placed on the person who wouldn't like finding out about the female vampire, yet he wouldn't say their name. Was it Dwayne? Did they know we had fought?

"Hey, why were you by yourself outside?" Uh oh.

I turned back to Paul from where I had been watching David leave, curious about where he was going, "Oh, uh, I walked home by myself."

"You what?!" He demanded, eyes darting around before he leant off the railing quickly and started walking off in a random direction, leaving me to play catch-up.

"Whoah! Hold on there, where are you going?" I asked, ignoring the pain in my leg as I jogged to stop in front of him.

"To find that asshole, he tells me he's taking you home then leaves you by yourself?!"

I put my hands against his chest, "I told him to leave me alone! I was angry at him for making you feel bad about me falling, I said some stuff then I told him I didn't want him taking me home."

"Well he could have followed you! It's not like it's unheard of, he's around all the damn time when you're in trouble with a human, and the one time you're cornered by a rogue vampire, he's nowhere to be seen. I'm gonna kill him."

"Please don't! Just forget it, okay? Whatever scared her off, she left me alone and I'm fine. If he had been there, she may have tried to hurt him, or me. He's your friend, Paul. And it was my fault he wasn't with me."

Paul sighed, "Until we find out who this woman is, you're not allowed out at night unless one of us is with you. We clear?"

I thought about making a joke, but he looked more serious than I had ever seen him, "Alright. What if you can't find out who she is?"

"It doesn't matter, as long as she's gone. Either she leaves or we make her leave, this is our turf and we don't take kindly to trespassers."

"If there are four of you then she won't risk it, I'm sure there's food elsewhere that's easier to get than risking pissing you guys off." I pointed out.

His eyes scanned the boardwalk behind me before meeting my eyes, "Yeah, unless food isn't the only thing she's after. Come on, let's go find David."

"Any sign?"

Marko shook his head at David's question, "Nothin', and I've looked everywhere. You sure you saw her heading back in this direction?"

I nodded, "Definitely back here. Unless she just flew right over and left."

David took a drag off his cigarette, "Dwayne can't find anything either, but he's still looking."

"Now he decides to be helpful." Paul grumbled.

"Will you cut it out? She's fine. Besides the leg." Marko said, I flexed my leg as he added the last part, there wasn't as much pain as earlier so I didn't think I had broken anything.

"If we can't find her then we can't find out what made her run, and I would personally love to know what made her so afraid that she passed up a perfectly good meal." David mused, I shuddered at the thought of being a meal.

"That makes two of us." Marko agreed.

"Three." A voice said, I turned to see Dwayne making his way over, "Maybe somebody can help us figure it out."

His gaze met Paul's briefly before turning away, not even glancing in my direction. David scoffed, "We'd never hear the end of it even if there was anything we missed."

"Say we have." Dwayne argued.

"Worth a shot." Marko sighed.

I looked between everyone, utterly confused, "What are you talking about?"

"We're gonna need to to stick around for a while, we need to go discuss some things. Mind hanging around the rides and stuff. Or one of us can take you home." David said.

"I think I'll stick around." I said, something about going home again didn't feel right.

"I'll stay with her, can't have her walking around by herself." Paul pointed out.

"You need to come with us because she is your problem so you can lead the way on this little mission, Dwayne, stay with her and don't let her out of your sight."

I internally groaned as David and the others left, dropping my eyes to the ground. This was going to be awkward. After a few seconds of silence I turned and walked over to an empty bench, I didn't know how long we'd be here so I thought I may as well get comfortable.

I felt him sit down beside me and wracked my brains for something to ask, "Where are they going?" I asked, curiosity winning out in the end.

"Just to talk."

"They can't talk around me?" I asked, sneaking a sideways glance to see him staring out at the people walking back and forth.

"Who they're talking to can't talk around you. But I'm not meant to say anything about it."

"Alright…" I agreed, but my mind went blank, so i ended up thinking back to what happened the last time we talked, "I'm sorry about earlier. About what I said."

He didn't speak for a few seconds, "I should have followed you."

"I told you not to." I argued.

"That shouldn't have stopped me." He shot back, "She could have killed you, if I'd have been there I could have done something, but it was you by yourself and only for whatever reason that made her leave, you'd be dead right now."

I shuddered at the possibility, "Well I'm fine. No harm done, see?" I said, trying to meet his eyes but he stared out evenly at the boardwalk, not meeting my gaze. I sighed before spotting his hand resting on his leg, without much thought I reached out and took his hand in mine, linking my fingers through his.

When I looked back up his eyes had finally met mine, and I did my best to smile, "Can we stop sulking like a pair of losers and go have some fun? Come on."I said, standing up with my hand still in his, attempting to pull but I think we both knew it depended entirely on whether or not he was willing to move, because I sure as hell couldn't pull him anywhere by myself.

Rather than keeping a hold of his hand, I dropped it after a few seconds. It didn't feel as innocent as it did with Paul, the few brief seconds of contact caused a blush to rise on my cheeks, and I could practically feel my heart beat faster in my chest so no doubt he might be able to feel it in my hand. He didn't seem to mind, or if he did it didn't show, so we switched to just walking beside each other, although some part of me was disappointed with the loss of contact.

For the hell of it we went round a few stalls with games, although I sucked at pretty much all of them, and he usually chose just to watch me fail. It wasn't until I threw my arms up that I left the decision up to him, "Okay so i suck at all these ones, what one do you want to try?"

He cocked an eyebrows before looking round, finally spotting something behind me that seemed to interest him. I followed after before groaning as it came into view, "Basketball? Did you see me throw back there?" I asked, I didn't exactly have the best aim.

I watched him set it up and pick up one of the small basketballs, only taking a second to aim before casually throwing it, of course it was a perfect shot. My reluctance to like the game lessened slightly at the small smile playing on his lips, so he liked basketball then.

I watched in amusement as he picked up another basketball and spun it on his finger, damn, how do people do that? His gaze switched from the ball to me and he stopped spinning the ball to hold it out to me, I shook my head.

"I can't, I suck at basketball."I told him.

He smirked, "Give it a try."

I rolled my eyes before taking the ball off him and stepping as close the the edge of the stall as I could get, taking a few seconds to aim before throwing the ball towards the hoop. It bounced off the corner of the backboard and I grabbed it as it rolled back down the slope towards ius, holding it out to Dwayne, "Told you, take another shot, show-off." I teased.

Rather than take the ball off me, his hand went for my wrist, pulling me closer. My breath caught in my throat for a split second as his other hand found my hip, thankfully he was just turning me to face the hoop again. His hand left my hip and went to my else along with the other one, they bent my elbows slightly before sliding up to my hands.

He placed one of my hands on the back of the ball and the other to the side, making sure my fingers spread out enough. I felt frozen like a statue except for the odd adjustments he was making, finally his hands went back up towards my shoulders, resting on them lightly, "Don't tense up too much when you throw." He said in a low voice, far too close to my ear for it to not send chills down my spine.

"What now?" I asked, my voice a little strained.

he chuckled, "This is usually the part where you, uh, throw the ball."

"Oh." Someone kill me now. I closed my eyes and threw, expecting it to come back and hit me in the face. I opened them just in time to see it successfully go through the basket.

"I did it!" I cried, whirling round and throwing my arms around him without even thinking, mentally slapping myself as I pulled back, face flushing with embarrassment.

"Yeah, you did." Oh God that smile, stop it, Bryn! You nearly got killed by a vampire, stop drooling over his smile.

The thought had me scratch the back of my neck awkwardly, "Yeah, uh, thanks for teaching me. Do you think the guys are done yet?"

His face turned blank then he nodded, "Should be alright to take you to them, don't mention anything about me saying where they went, I could get in trouble for telling you even as little as I did."

I made a show of zipping my lip, "Just between us, got it."

"Any sign?" David asked as we met back up with the others, I shook my head and imagined Dwayne did the same.

"Can I go home now?" I asked, "I think she must have bailed."

Paul, "I think she's right, and we know it's nothing to worry about, anyway."

"Or so we're told." David said with a roll of his eyes, I just chalked this up to another thing I couldn't be told. I was curious as hell about the whole thing, but I had just about had enough with things tonight. I needed to get home and go to bed.

"Come on, let's go." Paul said, taking my arm to pull me in the direction of the bikes. I waved to the rest of them before turning to walk with Paul.

"How did things go?"

Paul shrugged, "Nothing to worry about, I think that chick must just have been passing through and decided you'd do for a snack. We're not sure what made her run, but she did and we're just gonna take what we can get. The main thing is you're still alive."

"Yeah, that's a perk alright." I said with sarcasm, he laughed before pulling me over towards his bike.
