So, it turns out, I've had this chapter just sitting there waiting to be updated for… at least since November… that's only five months, so hadn't hit the half yearly mark yet which I think is a bonus… but it's still a crap effort.

You know I bet as soon as I get to the Renesmee and Bella being a vampire and there being more death problems looming I'll pump out like four chapters in a row or something. Maybe. I've been wondering whether I should steal the idea from the movie and take Alice's vision and play it through, I mean the twins can sometimes read her mind so… We'll see. Eventually.

Anyway, here's chapter 57, I now have an excuse for not putting one up for a while because Uni's back and It's kind of hectic and scary how time consuming it is, people sat year 12 is bad, well time wise this is bad too just you seem used to it so it doesn't seem as overwhelming as it should me.

Right, enough with the words you don't read.

Chapter 57:

Cat's POV.

I was sitting in a restaurant with my sister, there was a glass of wine in my hand and I was dressed in rather vintage clothing. The style was rather straight and free, not much shape was given to it, but it seemed even then I didn't like it as I'd added a belt to my waist. The blouse was rather small and tucked at the shoulders, not having very many ruffles.

I was chatting away rather happily with my sister who was wearing a similar attire and a waiter filled our glasses to which we thanked him for.

Eventually we got up and left, paying the bill and moving through the street. We had small hat's on our heads that plastered our hair to our heads which was in a bun up at the back. I had a few loose hairs framing my face, while Sophie's was all tied back.

I turned when I heard someone hurrying and then apologise as someone shouted a complaint, in time to see a girl running towards us. Well, she wasn't running just walking very quickly with a panicked look on her face.

Her hair was black and her eyes dark brown. She wasn't dressed as elegantly as Sophie and I but she was not from the lower classes. She was rather short, her hair sticking out on angles and she continued to look over her shoulder. Quite a few people stared at her, giving her disapproving looks, even some that could be related to hatred. She couldn't have been more then 20 years old.

"Hey," I suddenly called out and stopped the girl who looked at me frighteningly "Are you alright?"

"I-I haven't seen you around here…?" she said, still looking around

"We're only here for a few days, our parents are on a business trip." Sophie admitted, looking at the girl worried.

"Why are you running?" I wondered

"Oh… it's, ah…"

"Where's your house?" Sophie asked as she looked around, probably thinking someone could help but the girl immediately started shaking her head.

"I can't go there. Excuse me, I need to get to the Marshal." she admitted

"Our car's just up here if you'd let us help?" Sophie suggested. The girl looked at us before she nodded.

Sophie and I took one of her hands each and lead her to the car. A man was standing out the front and he smiled at them.

"We need to see the town marshal." Sophie explained. He nodded and opened the door for them.

"My names Catherine by the way." I introduced "This is my sister Sophia."

"Mary." She nodded "You don't have to do this you know, I'll be fine…"

"You looked like you could use the help." Sophie smiled.

"Besides, a car is faster then running." I said.

The scene seemed to skip and we were staring at a newspaper our father had for the local town. My eyes scanned over the date that said it was 1920 and down to where it stated that Mary Alice Brandon had been administered to an asylum two counties over by her own father. Apparently she'd gone insane, there was a small passage about how Mary was a witch and had cursed her own cousin to death. There was a picture to the side of Mary.

"That's the girl we met a few weeks ago." Sophie noticed and I nodded

"She wasn't at all mad, she was scared." I said "Running along the street and looking over her shoulder after Sophia and I had lunch."

"You should have seen the looks the towns people were giving her though," Sophie admitted with a frown.

"We can't leave her there." I said "Something must have happened, why would a father trap their own daughter in a mental asylum when she's frightened?" I questioned

My father sighed.

"Girls, this isn't for us to meddle in." he said strongly

"Father, we cannot leave her there." I said and Sophie looked at me before sighing an looking at our mother.

"She wasn't insane mother, she was frightened, as though the world had turned against her." Our mother looked between us and then at our father who sighed again.

"I'll arrange something."

Sophie and I were standing outside an asylum with our car parked behind us, obviously waiting for something.

"We've been standing here fro fifteen minutes waiting." I said impatiently.

"Calm down, they probably have to sort paper work or something."

"They could at least let us inside." I huffed.

We waited before Sophie nudged me.

"Catherine look," she pointed and we saw a man, a rather beautiful man was leaving the asylum through a back door and carrying a bundle in his arms.

"That looked like…" Sophie began

"Mary!" I gasped "What's he doing?!" and before she could stop me I shouted "Hey!" I hitched up my skirt and trotted after him. He'd froze and turned to me. I stopped his skin was pale and his eyes were blood red.

I shook my head, ignoring the shiver that went down my spin as his eyes board into mine. I heard Sophie coming up behind me.

"What are you doing with her?!" I demanded

"We're here to collect her and take her somewhere safe." Sophie explained "We're her friends!"

"She's in danger." the man's voice was smooth and sweet. He was unexplainable beautiful, mesmerising. I'd never seen anything like him.

"In danger how? She's safe in there isn't she?" Sophie pointed to the asylum and I nudged her, reminding her we were taking her away from this place.

"She'll definitely be safe with us." I said strongly.

"Nowhere is safe. Not only is she in danger but she's a danger to everyone else now as well."

"She's not mad!" Sophie exclaimed

"And she's not a witch." I seconded. The man nodded, seeming to agree but he took a step back, ready to leave anyway.

"I cannot leave her with you, it would be putting you in harms way. This is a danger no one but she can protect herself from. I will not risk her life, and if you are her friends as you say, then she will not allow anything to befall on you either." and with that turned and sprinted away, swiftly, gracefully and in the second he was gone.

I stared blindingly, confused, what had just happened? He seemed to vanish on the spot, taking Mary with him. His red eyes were stained into my mind, I could see them as clearly as anything and I knew the sight of her writhing body in his arms was not something I'd quickly forget.

We'd come to save Mary, and yet, we could do nothing, who knew what that man was going to do to her, even if he sounded like he cared for her.

I turned to Sophie.

"We can't leave her!"

"We knew her for about half an hour Catherine." Sophie reminded me

"Did you not see him? He gave me a worried feeling." she nodded

"How do you expect us to follow though? He just vanished!" she stared after him and I frowned.

I suddenly sat up from where I was sleeping on the couch and gasped. I looked around frantically to find myself in the Cullen's living room. It was back to normal, the hospital bed removed and Bella was curled up on another couch like a burrito, covered in blankets. Edward was on the other side of the couch and Rosalie at her head.

I suddenly felt cold arms wrap around me and I guessed I'd worried her for Sophie was by my side.

"Hey, it's alright." she hushed "It was just a dream." I was already shaking my head.

"Alice…" I muttered and began to move off the couch frantically, forcing her to release me. "Alice!" I shouted and ran from the room, causing everyone to look at me confused.

Alice met me on the stairs.

"What's wrong?" she still had the disappointed look on her face but the curiosity was getting the better of her.

"We knew you!" I blurted out as Sophie was at the bottom of the stairs behind me.

"What?" Alice asked

"We met you! Sophie and I!" I exclaimed and turned to Sophie. "I didn't have a dream, I saw a memory." understanding washed over her expressed and I turned back to Alice "Alice, we met you while you were still human!" Alice looked at me shocked "Only for a brief time, it was while you were running away from your dad and as you were admitted to that asylum. We saw a vampire take you away." I explained looking between the two of them. "We tried to get you out of the asylum but the vampire was taking you away and said you were a danger and that you were being hunted. We met you on the street while you were hurrying to the town's Marshal and drove you there."

Alice looked surprised.

"It was 1920 and we were in Biloxi Mississippi for some conference dad was going to." I told Alice before turning to Sophie "And you and I were calling one another by our proper names, sounded very posh when we said 'mother' and 'father' too." Sophie rolled her eyes at me.

"I don't understand, how do you remember this?" Alice had walked down a few more steps towards me as she looked to Sophie in confusion.

"Mum and dad reversed our ages many times right? Well they blocked off the memories from the previous life I guess you could say." I began

"They built a wall in our minds which, after we discovered there were missing memories, began to crumbled. Slowly we're remembering things from the past. Seems this was one of them…" Sophie looked at me

"Mostly they come as dreams because our mind can safely release them I guess, but occasionally we get one during the day, if a situation has a deja vu effect." Sophie looked at me confused and I sighed "Don't ask." I admitted

"You said I was running from my dad?" Alice asked. I frowned

"You were terrified and said you had to see the Marshal, you were running from your dad and many people didn't like you, something about you being a witch and cursing people. I'm guessing it had something to do with your visions, even then though they weren't strong you saw things, people's deaths." I explained before I paused.

"This is how I knew how Alice was changed!" I turned to Sophie "Remember, some how I knew she had been chased by James." Sophie nodded

"But if we knew Alice after she was changed, she'd remember us wouldn't she?" Sophie looked at Alice "I mean our parents had money even then so we would have been wearing all the latest fashion which would have clearly caught Alice's attention." Alice smirked

"You never know, it was about 80 years ago."

"Which isn't a lot." I threw in and Alice looked at me

"How would you know?"

"Considering I was about 18 years old when I met you in 1920," I began and Sophie chuckled "When I have all my memories back even Carlisle might be my underling." I smirked so which a few laughs were heard through the house.

It was then that I noticed something else. Snoring.

"Did Jake fall asleep inside?" I questioned suddenly and turned to walk around my sister. He was by the front door, which was open, slumped over on the floor, snoring. What surprised me most was the pillow under his face.

"I put that there," Esme said as she approached me admiring the giant werewolf "He didn't look comfortable." I chuckled

"Thanks Esme but the smell might wake him up." I walked forwards and sat by Jake's head before lifting it off the pillow, which I chucked at Emmett who caught it, and placed Jake's head in my lap.

"So, what happened while I was out?" I asked

"Bella broke a rib." Esme sighed and I turned to see the girl asleep in her blankets.

"You know if you want to keep her warm you've got me, Jacob and Seth all willing to help? Why didn't you place me near her?" I asked looking at Edward

"We didn't want to disturb you." Edward confessed

"Ha." I scoffed and Sophie rose an eyebrow as she sat on a chair, a book in her hands.

"Wake Cat? That requires a bit more effort then just moving her." Sophie admitted and I nodded.

"How long's Jake been out for?"

"Quite a few hours actually." Sophie admitted "More then he'd gotten staying with us."

"Even when they had the night off?" I wondered and she nodded.

"Wow… Record." she nodded in agreement as I brushed my fingers over Jacob's forehead to move some stray hairs from his eyes.

"Does he always sleep like that?" Rosalie scowled

"What? All over the place?" I smirked

"Loudly."

"Yes." I nodded

"Can you shut him up?"

"No." I didn't even bother getting annoyed at her, if Jacob's snoring annoyed her then I was more then happy to let that be a punishment for her rudeness.

"He needs his sleep Rose, he's the reason you're all still here after all." I reminded her, one looked from Edward left Rose silent.

"I already asked this of Edward, but the wolves are welcome to our hospitalities, I heard Jacob talk about being homeless," Esme had kneeled in front of me on the floor.

I smiled.

"He's not homeless, if he's that desperate he can go to my house, any of them can. It doesn't smell, my parents will help and it's no mans land, being on the boarder and being the property of angels for thousands of years probably, the wolves can't touch it, no matter who's inside." I admitted and Sophie nodded.

"Mum's sort of aware of the situation…" she confessed softly

"But I promise to let them know. You're only problem will be Leah." I smirked "She'll deny as much of your kindness as possible."

"But Leah does that to people who she actually likes anyway," Sophie reminded me

"She just isn't as rude about it." I said looking at Sophie who rolled her eyes.

"But I promise to get the message across as much as I can. Seth'll be happy to take enough for him and Leah if necessary. He loves you guys." I smiled and Esme's smile grew.

"Thanks Cat." she smiled "And you too Sophie." She went over to my twin and stroked her face "I know this is very difficult on you," Sophie frowned and bowed her head but nodded before smiling at Esme.

"Thanks."

Everyone turned as a knock sounded at the door and Seth looked down at me with a grin.

"Come in Seth." I said and the door opened enough to let the young wolf in.

"I was wondering where he'd gotten to." I looked down at the werewolf in my lap as Seth jumped over his body.

"Yeah, I think he needed the sleep." I chuckled

"I'll say." Seth nodded

"You and Leah switch patrol? Did she get any sleep?"

"A few hours, she's freaking out to where Jake is though." I rolled my eyes

"And she pretends not to care." I sighed "Does she want some food? I'll make her something. Or she can go raid my house."

"I think she's cool for the moment." Seth said before looking up at Edward.

"Hey Edward." he grinned and walked over. They had a small greeting as Seth asked how Bella was before Esme walked over to him.

"Seth, would you like some food?" she asked

"Yes please!" Seth's entire face lit up and Esme smiled before the two retreated to the kitchen. I knew Seth's attitude towards the Cullens was bound to make Esme feel better.

Third Person POV.

Jacob didn't wake up until early morning, and during that time Cat had fallen back to sleep also. She awoke to the smell of breakfast as Seth sat on the couch with Bella, his arm around her shoulders as Edward was missing, being the one who was sizzling an omelet in the kitchen.

"Morning Cat." Bella smiled. She looked much better know, unfortunately that meant the baby was better and stronger also.

"Something smells good." Cat muttered and Bella and Seth both laughed

"Sophie and Edward are cooking breakfast." Cat looked around to notice her sister was indeed missing from the room, Rosalie was at Bella's feet and Alice was on the floor also.

"Would you like some breakfast Cat?" Sophie's voice sounded

"Yes please." Cat muttered as she rubbed the sleep from her eyes.

I also ran home and got you some clothes. They're in Alice's room. She said we could borrow some though if necessary. Sophie said

Awesome, thanks.

"What time is it?" Cat wondered

"Dawn." Seth said

"Kay." Couple more hours will let me last a while. Cat believed as she got her bearings.

She looked down at Jacob who was snoring his head off and stroked his shoulder comfortingly.

"Here you go." Sophie walked in with a plate of food for Cat while Edward walked over to Seth with two plates.

"Thanks man." Seth grinned and he moved from Bella's side before walking outside.

"Leah?" Cat asked and Sophie nodded

"Not that she'll eat it but," Sophie sighed as Cat lifted Jacob's head from her lap, Esme was before her with another pillow and she smirked.

"Thanks." and she placed it under his head despite the smell, before moving to sit on the floor and eat the food Sophie had provided her.

Seth walked back in and sat beck next to Bella, the plate gone.

"Did she take it?" Cat asked and Seth scoffed. Cat just nodded.

"Are you two alright then?" Sophie was washing the dishes in the kitchen and Esme had walked in and placed a comforting hand on her arm. Sophie knew she was talking about Cat.

"Well, with Jake here she's blurred into the background a little more, and everyone seems to have realised that Bella's not changing her mind any time soon, so…" Sophie thought "I still don't like that she stopped us from helping Bella, and although she seems to be right in the way of helping Bella…" she paused again "I don't know. We reached a sort of understanding but I still don't agree with her."

Esme nodded and rubbed her shoulder before Rosalie spoke from the other room.

"About time, the chainsaw impersonation was getting a little tired." They heard Jacob shift on the floor as his snores stopped.

"Hey, Jake's coming around!" Seth crowed.

"He came to find you," Edward said as Jacob got to his feet. "And Esme convinced him to stay for breakfast."

Jacob mustn't have looked impressed for Seth began to justify himself.

"Yeah, Jake—I was just checking to see if you were okay 'cause you didn't ever phase back. Leah got worried. I told her you probably just crashed human, but you know how she is. Anyway, they had all this food and, dang,"—he turned to Edward—"man, you can cook."

"Thank you," Edward murmured.

Sophie cleared her throat.

"Thanks Sophie." Seth called and Sophie chuckled before walking into the living room

"Leah running patrol?" Jacob asked Seth, his voice was still thick with sleep.

"Yeah," he said as he chewed. Seth had new clothes on, too. They fit him better than Jacob's fit him. "She's on it. No worries. She'll howl if there's anything. We traded off around midnight. I ran twelve hours." He was proud of that, and it showed in his tone.

"Midnight? Wait a minute — what time is it now?"

"'Bout dawn." He glanced toward the window, checking.

"You slept all night." Cat nodded

"On Cat no less." Sophie added and Jacob looked at her

"They put a pillow under your face, I figured the smell would get to you. I only put it back when Sophie brought me breakfast."

"Crap. Sorry about that, Seth. Really. You shoulda kicked me awake."

"Naw, man, you needed some serious sleep. You haven't taken a break since when? Night before your last patrol for Sam? Like forty hours? Fifty? You're not a machine, Jake. 'Sides, you didn't miss anything at all."

Jacob looked at Bella as if doubting it, her colour was back to how it used to be now.

"How's the rib?" he asked.
"Taped up nice and tight. I don't even feel it." Edward ground his teeth and Jacob rolled his eyes

"No need to be brave Bella." Sophie said Bella grinned as Jacob spoke again

"What's for breakfast? O negative or AB positive?"

She stuck her tongue out at him, totally herself again.

"Omelettes," she said, but her eyes darted down, a cup of blood was wedged between her leg and Edward's.

"Go get some breakfast, Jake," Seth said. "There's a bunch in the kitchen. You've got to be empty."

"Can't run without any energy." Cat nodded "Plus Sophie and Edward are as good as Sophie and Emily." she smirked. Sophie smiled, happy to hear that as she now had her own plate in front of her.

His stomach growled as he examined Seth's food but he said nothing and made no effort to move.

"What's Leah having for breakfast?" he asked Seth critically.

"Hey, I took food to her before I ate anything," he defended himself. "She said she'd rather eat roadkill, but I bet she caves. These cinnamon rolls…" He seemed at a loss for words.

"I'll go hunt with her, then."

Cat screwed her face up at the thought as Sophie made a face.

Seth sighed as Jacob turned to leave.

"A moment, Jacob?"

It was Carlisle asking and both twins shared a look knowing if it hadn't been Carlisle, he probably would have snapped at someone.

"Yeah?"

"Speaking of hunting," he began in a somber tone. "That's going to be an issue for my family. I understand that our previous truce is inoperative at the moment, so I wanted your advice. Will Sam be hunting for us outside of the perimeter you've created? We don't want to take a chance with hurting any of your family — or losing any of ours. If you were in our shoes, how would you proceed?"

Everyone in the living room paused to listen and Jacob seemed to notice as he thought.

"It's a risk," he said, "Sam's calmed down some, but I'm pretty sure that in his head, the treaty is void. As long as he thinks the tribe, or any other human, is in real danger, he's not going to ask questions first, if you know what I mean. But, with all that, his priority is going to be La Push. There really aren't enough of them to keep a decent watch on the people while putting out hunting parties big enough to do much damage. I'd bet he's keeping it close to home."

Carlisle nodded thoughtfully.

"So I guess I'd say, go out together, just in case. And probably you should go in the day, 'cause we'd be expecting night. Traditional vampire stuff. You're fast—go over the mountains and hunt far enough away that there's no chance he'd send anyone that far from home."

"And leave Bella behind, unprotected?" Jacob snorted.

"What are we, chopped liver?"

"Hello!" Cat waved as Sophie cleared her throat, earning a look

"She's more safe with us then with you, the wolves can't hurt us." Sophie reminded him.

Carlisle laughed, and then his face was serious again. "Jacob, you can't fight against your brothers."

"I'm not saying it wouldn't be hard, but if they were really coming to kill her — I would be able to stop them." Jacob believed.

Idiot. Sophie thought and she looked at Cat who just shook her head and ate her breakfast.

Carlisle shook his head, anxious.

"No, I didn't mean that you would be… incapable. But that it would be very wrong. I can't have that on my conscience."

"It wouldn't be on yours, Doc. It would be on mine. And I can take it."

"No, Jacob. We will make sure that our actions don't make that a necessity." He frowned thoughtfully "We'll go three at a time," he decided after a second. "That's probably the best we can do."

"I don't know, Doc. Dividing down the middle isn't the best strategy."

"We've got some extra abilities that will even it up. If Edward is one of the three, he'll be able to give us a few miles' radius of safety."

Everyone glanced at Edward. His expression had Carlisle backtracking quickly.

"I'm sure there are other ways, too," Carlisle said. Clearly, there was no physical need strong enough to get Edward away from Bella now. "Alice, I would imagine you could see which routes would be a mistake?"

"The ones that disappear," Alice said, nodding. "Easy."

Edward, who had gone all tense with Carlisle's first plan, loosened up. Bella was staring unhappily at Alice, that little crease between her eyes that she got when she was stressed out.

"Okay, then," Jacob said. "That's settled. I'll just be on my way. Seth, I'll expect you back on at dusk, so get a nap in there somewhere, all right?"

"Sure, Jake. I'll phase back soon as I'm done. Unless…" he hesitated, looking at Bella. "Do you need me?"

"I'm fine, Seth, thanks," Bella said nodding.

And then Esme flitted back in the room, a big covered dish in her hands. She stopped hesitantly just behind Carlisle's elbow, her wide, dark gold eyes on Jacob's face. She held the dish out and took a shy step closer.

"Jacob," she said quietly. Her voice wasn't quite so piercing as the others'. "I know it's… unappetising to you, the idea of eating here, where it smells so unpleasant. But I would feel much better if you would take some food with you when you go. I know you can't go home, and that's because of us. Please — ease some of my remorse. Take something to eat." She held the food out to Jacob, her face all soft and pleading.

Jacob glanced at Cat who nodded her head to Esme with a serious look. He pursed his lips before turning to her again.

He reached out and took the food with one hand, holding it away, at arm's length.

I'll go dump it under a tree or something. I don't want her to feel bad.

Cat looked at Jacob with her eyes narrowed and Jacob caught her face.

Don't you say anything to her! Let her think I ate it.

Cat looked at Edward who was smirking slightly.

"Thank you, Jacob," Esme said, smiling.

"Um, thank you," he said. Cat smirked and tried to hide her laughter by putting food in her mouth.

Is he blushing? Sophie questioned causing Cat to snort unattractively into her food, earning looks at everyone as she laughed behind her hand. Jacob looked at her scrutinisingly.

"What?" Bella asked

"Nothing." Cat shook her head and turned back to her food. She glanced up at Jacob however who narrowed his eyes at her annoyed. She just looked away grinning.

Jacob rolled his eyes and turned fro the door.

"Jacob?" Esme asked, Jacob turned to her again "I left a basket of clothes on the porch. They're for Leah. They're freshly washed — I tried to touch them as little as possible." She frowned. "Do you mind taking them to her?"

"On it," he muttered, and then he ducked out the door before anyone could guilt him into anything else.

As soon as he was gone Cat bursted out laughing. Sophie was chuckling as Edward smirked at them.

"What?" Bella asked

"Just Jake's thoughts. All the niceness is weirding him out." Cat admitted "Kinda hilarious."

Bella smirked.

"So what did mum say when you went home?" Cat asked her

"Nothing. I went last night, they were asleep." Sophie admitted and Cat paused before looking at her confused

"Are you avoiding them…?" she asked slowly

"No. Just last night I was awake and had spare time." Sophie shrugged.

"Have we told them anything?"

"They knew about Bella, and the wolves. I asked mum if she could find something to help Bells." Everyone looked at her and Rosalie hissed.

"Any way to help her Rosalie." Sophie snapped with a roll of her eyes "Clearly it has to be both Bella and baby friendly."

Rosalie just turned away, having no remark to make back.

"Lighten up Rose." Cat said "You're just making a fool of yourself." she sighed.

Rosalie stood up and moved from the room, clearly annoyed by the two. Edward looked at them amused while Bella frowned.

"She's just helping me," she reminded them

"We know." Sophie nodded

"Doesn't mean she needs to be ridiculous." Cat smiled.

They were interrupted by the ringing of a phone and Sophie pulled hers from her pocket.

"Speak of the devil…" she muttered before answering "Hey mum." she smiled

"Hey sweetie, I was just wondering how you both were doing? How's Bella?" Caren asked

"We're good, everyone's fine, little hungry for the Cullens and a little irritated for Leah. Bella's much better, we found a sort of… temporary solution." Sophie said earning a smile from Bella and a frown from Edward.

"Leah? Is she alright? I heard from Sue that she's a little worried for her and Seth."

Sophie sighed.

"Yes they're fine. Other then being away from home Seth's ecstatic, probably because he's doing what he things is best and he get's to be with Jake and Leah. Leah however, she's happy as she's away from Sam, but… you know Leah." Caren sighed

"Otherwise they're both healthy."

"Is there anything we can do to help?" Caren wondered

"If you could provide some food and clothes for Leah and Jake on the Cullen's side of the line, Leah's stubborn and wont accept any from the Cullens. Jake's trying…"

"What about Seth?" Sophie laughed

"He's fine. Perfectly happy really, glad to be helping I think."

"That's good."

"Just let Sue know that we're taking great care of them. We all are. Especially as what he's doing for the Cullens will probably make them in-debt to him forever." Edward chuckled with a slight nod.

Sophie glanced around at everyone and then stood up to move from the room.

"I don't suppose you found anything did you?"

There was a sigh on the other end.

"I've been trying honey, but other then the fact that they're fast growing, and the mother usually dies during the birth, there isn't much." Caren admitted

"Yeah. I found that out too." Sophie muttered "Bella thinks Carlisle will be able to turn her at the last minute…"

"That depends on how much damage Bella takes," Caren mumbled

"Does venom have that much of a limit?" Sophie whispered

"The venom may help Bella and heal her yes, but that's if Bella is strong enough to live through the transformation itself." Caren admitted

"What do you mean?"

"It's not an easy transition Sophie." Caren explained "All your organs are stopped, you're basically killed, your veins and blood are frozen, hardened, eaten away and then replaced to be exact. You're completely destroyed from the inside before you're put back together." Sophie's hand tightened on the phone as she listened, and the bench her hand was on was frosted over slightly, the ice running in veins from Sophie's finger tips.

"Bella may be strong enough to keep her heat beating until the venom is injected, but whether she's strong enough to survive the procedure is a different matter."

"Is there nothing we can do to stop that?" Sophie's voice was barely a whisper now, trying to keep any prying ears in the house from over hearing.

"Bella can't be changed whole the baby's still within her. If the child is delivered before it get's too big for the space within her and before it needs to rip itself out of her, then little damage is done to Bella and she should be strong enough to survive the process."

"But how do we know when it's the perfect time to remove it? Without hurting it or her? It's growth rate is so unpredictable we don't know where the equivalent to nine months lies."

"And that's the problem," Caren said strongly "Only the child know's when it's ready, when it's being squished because it's too big. That'll be when her bones start breaking."

"It's already cracking her ribs."

"And that'll only be the beginning." Caren sighed "Sophie, if you're not careful and watching over her when the month period is drawing to a close, it could smash her ribcage or break her spine. Maybe even both." The entire kitchen was sparkling with ice and Sophie's breath came out like myst.

"Mum, nothing is able to puncture the embryonic sack."

"Nothing human made."

"We can't get them to rip her skin open!" Sophie hissed quietly

"You would need to C-section her, but that can only happen halfway."

"And how much pain would that put Bella through!?"

"Despite her having a hybrid within her, Bella is still human, therefore…"

"Morphine." Sophie muttered

"Either that or your father could come down."

"What if he's not home?"

"You still have Carlisle. After all your father is taking his shifts so he can look after Bella."

"Carlisle can't heal her like dad can." Sophie muttered, but found it interesting that her father was indeed helping, just by the sidelines instead of directly.

"Don't rely on us too much Sophie, we've spent years locking that part of ourselves away."

"You need to tell Cat that. She's counting on one of you to be able to save Bella if all else fails." Caren sighed

"Just keep us updated and if your father needs to come down let us know."

"Alright. Tell him to be careful of all the werewolves around." Sophie chuckled once before frowning again.

"Good luck sweetie," though it didn't sound happy, more hopeful.

"Thanks." and the dial tone sounded.

Sophie stood there her teeth ground together before she placed her phone down on the iced kitchen bench. The room was cold and frosty like a freezer, ice hanging from the cabinets and light. Her phone froze over as soon as it touched the countertop.

Sophie had her teeth ground together but was otherwise still and motionless. Anyone would have thought she was only deep in thought. The sudden drop in temperature however caught peoples attentions and Cat, Alice and Edward had walked into the room.

"What happened?" Cat questioned, walking straight to her twin. "What did she say?"

Sophie turned to Cat, a glare on her features.

"That the only reason the venom wont turn Bella, is because she'll use all her energy to stay alive until we inject her, then she might run out of energy and die anyway. This thing is going to rip out of her stomach, break her bones, probably her spine and crush her chest cavity. We can't change Bella with the baby still within her and only that hybrid will know when it's ready to come out. Mum says we need to give Bella a C-section and that one of the cullens has to be the one to break own the embryonic sack, nothing else is strong enough. The problem is we can't know when this thing deems itself too big and needs to escape from her." Sophie explained she then looked at Cat.

"She also said we can't rely on her or dad to save her." Cat's eyes widened

"Why not?"

"Because they've been hiding what they can do for two long, there are limits when you've been out of practice." Sophie said

Cat's eyes narrowed.

"Mum said we had to keep an extra close eye on Bella around the month period, and that if we need him to call on dad." Sophie told Edward. "Which probably means keeping Jasper close by to feel the pain Bella feels, it's the only indication we've got."

Edward looked less than happy and Alice had a frown donning her features.

"Excuse me." Cat muttered and she left the room. Sophie turned to the kitchen and took a deep breath before everything began to thaw out and return to normal. The water collected itself together before it floated into the sink, leaving everything dry.

As if the morning had to get way worse, there suddenly another crack and Bella groaned. Edward was gone, Alice with him and Sophie quickly followed. Cat was soothing Bella, who had a hand on her side and was taking deep breaths while Carlisle arrived and Edward scooped Bella into his arms, all of them running upstairs again.

"Another rib?" Sophie asked Seth. The wolf nodded with a frown.

"She's developed a fever I think as well. She keeps getting chills and then becoming much to hot." Sophie nodded

"Her immune system is rather weak, wouldn't be surprised if she did catch a cold, just to top everything off." she muttered

"Soph, is everything alright?" Seth asked and Sophie looked at him, he was frowning, looking worried.

"We're still hardly closer to figuring out how to get Bella to survive this," Sophie muttered "I still haven't been able to find out how. Something that saves them both, as that's the only choice we've got."

"I thought Cat said your parents could heal?"

"Mum said not to rely on that."

"What about the venom?"

"Bella has to be strong enough to survive that as well as the labour." Sophie admitted "Something that doesn't sound all that easy." Seth frowned "So far, the only way to help her survive, is to get the baby out before it rips it's way out. And the only way to do that is to remove it just before it decides it's time. And that's something we can't know, especially as Alice can't see it."

"Well I'm sure being surrounded by so many vampires and the daughter of two angels has to count for something." Seth said trying to be positive. Sophie smiled

"Thanks Seth."
