A/N: Feeling out this story has been pretty interesting. I'm hoping I don't make the characters too mopey. In any case, here's the next chapter, I realize I'm posting pretty quickly but hopefully you enjoy it anyway.

After their talk, Tesla and Beast Boy began to talk lightly about other things. Tesla mentioned her favorite movies out of the list she had watched on super speed, and Beast Boy suggested they watch them at regular speed sometime so she could actually follow the plot. As they talked, they crept quietly back down to the tower, whispering to each other quietly. When they reached his room, Beast Boy stopped. He hadn't realized they were so close to his room. He knew he should say good night, but a part of him wasn't ready for the conversation to end. It was rare for him to be discussing pop culture with a cute girl (android or not) that wasn't texting and pretending to listen.

"Hey, wait right here a second okay?" He ran into his room and searched wildly for a second before coming up with his treasure-Warp Trek Five! He didn't have the first few, but the plot lines didn't intertwine so it wouldn't be a big deal. "Hey, Tesla, why don't we start that movie session now? That is, if you're not tired?"

"I don't usually require sleep like a normal human," she replied. "I'd love to watch a video at normal speed with you."

Beast Boy grinned at her, holding the movie case. "Get ready to have your life changed, then!"

Tesla realized she fell asleep without her chamber before she even opened her eyes. She couldn't hear the whir of the computer or feel the warmth of the chamber. All she heard was voices nearby, noises from the TV, and a loud sound not unlike a chainsaw. When she opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was Beast Boy (although she supposed she had decided to call him Garfield), and she realized the loud noise was him snoring away on the couch. She had fallen asleep laying with her head in his lap on accident. She sat up, her face hot with embarrassment, though she couldn't pinpoint why.

"Ah, good morning!"

She turned around quickly to see the other Titans gathered around the breakfast table. Robin waved at her, having been the one who greeted her. Starfire also waved at her excitedly, while Cyborg whistled in the background, cooking breakfast. Raven put her hand up in acknowledgement, but did not look up from her book.

"Ah, uh...Good morning," she said quietly, raising her hand timidly in response. She looked back at Garfield, still snoring away.

"We see you were enjoying the science films!"

"Science Fiction, Star."

"The Science of Fiction films?"

"Uh, sure."

Tesla ran a hand through her curls, feeling self-conscious. Hey, that was a new one. "Yes, we could not sleep last night and I mentioned some films I had wanted to watch. I was trying to get to know your human culture."

She got up, stepping over Garfield's outstretched legs to receive a plate of food handed to her by Cyborg.

"Hey, no sweat, Tess. We're just happy to see you comfortable," he said, giving her a big smile. She looked down at her food, eggs and bacon in the shape of a smiley face. "If you don't like it, let me know. I don't know what kind of stuff you eat. And when Sleeping Beauty wakes up I got the tofu junk for him, too."

"Eat? I have no preferences, but…" She looked at the plate in front of her. "Well, I guess I've just never really eaten."

"Yeah, that's true," said Robin. "I don't think I've seen you eat since you've been outta that tube."

"You are missing so much of the glories of sustenance!" Starfire took her plate and her arm flying her quickly over to the stools so she could eat with the others. "Perhaps I should make my tamaranean Glorgslop for you!"

"That sounds good," she said, unable to read the disturbed looks of the other titans shaking their heads at her. She picked up her fork and ate the breakfast quietly, the others staring at her almost uncomfortably. The food tasted familiar, but she couldn't tell if it was because of something she couldn't remember or if she was programmed to expect the taste.

"So how is it? Is my cooking awesome or what?" Cyborg asked her.

She paused with the fork in her mouth, trying to think of a response.

"Eggs and Bacon? You're going to start an advanced bioandroid with the capacity to put down supercomputers on something as mundane as Eggs and Bacon?"

The fork clattered to the plate.

"Tesla?" Robin's voice sounded so far away as her body started to fall against her will. Darkness replaced the view of the kitchen, fading slowly into a drab dining room.

Tesla blinked and tried to rub her eyes, but found she could not move except to look around. The room was badly lit with flourescent lighting, and a bulb in the corner was flickering to boot. The whole scene had a static look to it, as if she were watching a show on a bad connection. She tried to run diagnostics on her retinal scanners, but to no avail. There were two men, one sitting across from her and the other standing.

"Well, she may be an advanced bioandroid and she may be very powerful, but she's still my daughter." The scientist, so kind with his shaggy black hair and dark eyes smiling at her from behind his glasses. He placed a plate in front of her. Eggs and bacon in the shape of a smiley face.

"Doctor, we talked about this. She's not human, and she is not your daughter anymore."

"We will just have to agree to disagree, then," stated the doctor, winking at her. The young man he was speaking with groaned. He was wearing a business suit, with his prematurely white hair slicked back.

"Just remember, Doctor," the businessman said, leaning close into the doctor's ear. "We didn't give you the grant so you could have your daughter back. We gave you the grant so you could give us a weapon."

The man slammed his case on the table and then left the room. The scientist looked back at her.

"Don't worry, X, you're always safe here with me." His hand reached out, his visage getting fuzzy and static. Tesla tried to reach, but he faded away before she could.

"Her heart rate is still fast, but it's starting to normalize."

"Oh, I hope our new friend is not feeling the pain."

"I'm sure she will be fine, Starfire. She has Cyborg on the case, and even Raven's healing powers."

Tesla scanned her systems to check for abnormality, but found none. She felt groggy from her impromptu sleep, and couldn't bring herself to open her eyes. The voices of the Titans continued around her, and she could register weight on both of her hands, as if they were being held down. She could feel the couch under her, marking that she was still in the living room.

"Oh, man, what happened while I was asleep? What if something I showed her made her short circuit? What if she isn't built to watch Warp Trek 5?" Beast Boy's voice came from her right, and she felt a squeeze on her hand. The warm weight must be his hands holding hers.

"I highly doubt a movie is responsible for her condition, Beast Boy."

"You can't know that, Rae! I could have overexerted her, like, well, I dunno how a bioandroid works, but I could have messed her up."

"Oh, hey guys, she looks like she's waking up!"

"Robin is right! Look!"

Tesla groaned as she started to open her eyes. The first thing she saw was her other hand in the soft, gentle hands of Starfire, whose green eyes were filled with worry. As their eyes met, Starfire lit up like a firework, pulling her friend into a hug that would probably break a normal person's back, pulling her hand away from Beast Boy in the process.

"Oh, my friend! I am so happy to see you have the consciousness! We were all filled with worry when you collapsed during breakfast!"

"I'm...sorry…"

"Star, don't overwhelm her," came Robin's voice from behind her. Starfire released her so she could sit comfortably on her own. Tesla groaned again and put a hand on her head, where a sore bump marked her fall in the kitchen.

"Hey, careful, dude!" Beast Boy put a supporting hand on her back. "We don't know what happened, but you could be hurt."

"All systems show normal, I don't appear damaged."

"He's talkin' about your physical body, bro, not your computer systems." Cyborg lowered her hand from her head to examine the sore spot. "I mean, you got a pretty nasty bump here, and that's not necessarily gonna show on your scanners. It's more of a human thing. You gotta take care of both."

"I see…" Beast Boy's hand on her back, Starfire's reassuring smile, Cyborg checking her head...she felt so comfortable here, and it was almost as if the accident had never happened. But what had happened?

"So, Tesla, I hate to ask you a bunch of questions since you just woke up, but…" Robin scooted his chair closer to her. "Are you okay? What happened?"

She pondered a moment on her answer, curling a strand of her hair around her finger thoughtfully. She wondered for a second where she had picked up that habit.

"I think I regained a memory," she said quietly. "Of my father, and another man was there. He was giving me eggs and bacon…"

"Ohh, I see," said Cyborg. "Your memories aren't all scattered, some are just locked away. Eating the breakfast brought something back!"

"You...you think so?"

"Heck yes! You're part human, too, and you can scatter data, but human memories don't work that way."

"I get it!" Robin exclaimed, setting his fist in his hand. "The memories that are stored in your brain are related to moments where you felt human, and thus don't get stored in your computer core, but instead in your human memories. The doctor could only scatter the data he could withdraw, and human memories don't translate as data. So some things you will remember if you see something that jogs it-"

"And some things we need to find the hard copy of!" Beast Boy said from her right. "Dude, it totally makes sense!"

"She gave off a strange power surge when she had her memory," Raven added. "If we break it down, there may be a unique signal to it."

"And then we can use that signal to scan the city, and maybe we can find the rest of her memories!" Robin rushed over to the coffee table, bringing up the computer console. A map of Jump City popped up on the window-screen. "Tesla, if you can find that signal that your memories give off, we could input it here and figure out why the scientist scattered them!"

"You're serious? You guys would do that for me?"

"Of course we would, Tess," Beast Boy said, squeezing her shoulder. She turned to see him smiling at her with sympathetic eyes. "We're here to help you any way we can."

"Yes, Tesla, we are your friends!" Starfire clasped her hand.

"Memories are an important part of a person's identity," Raven said. "Even I wouldn't trade my memories for anything."

Tesla brought her free hand to her face, feeling embarrassed by the attention. "Th-thank you guys. It makes me...it makes me so happy."

As happy as she was, she couldn't shake the feeling that her memories held a dark secret, something she wasn't sure she wanted to know. The businessman's words echoed in her mind.

"We didn't give you a grant so you could have your daughter back, we gave you a grant so you could give us a weapon."

Beast Boy stared at the paint bucket in front of him. He had made up his mind to make the best of the time it took Robin and Cyborg to pinpoint any of Tesla's memories but...well, it was hard. He looked up at the walls, where a mural of desert mountains and stars had been previously painted. Sure, he probably could have picked an empty room, but Terra's room was the best equipped to hold Tesla's stasis pod and...and he needed to move on sometime.

"Hey." Beast Boy turned to see Raven in the doorway.

"Hey," he responded, not bothering to hide his melancholy.

"I just wanted to make sure you didn't want help," she said. "I know this is...hard for you."

"Thanks, Rae, but...well, I should do it myself. Closure and all that."

"Alright," she responded, turning to leave.

"Raven?" She stopped. "Thanks."

She smiled a tiny smile. "Any time, Beast Boy."

Then he was alone again. The stars in the walls seemed to twinkle at him, whispering the stories this room had to tell. He reminded himself that Terra wanted nothing to do with him, or the Titans. He reminded himself of the harshness of her words, of throwing the jewelry box off the tower, of all the painful and all the good memories he would be abandoning.

With a deep breath, he dipped the paint roller into the electric blue paint and began to paint over the mountains. He couldn't be hung up on Terra forever. It was a luxury to have those memories-he thought of Tesla, who had none-and they would remain whether the room did or not. As he painted, he wondered if Tesla had ever had a bedroom of her own, or if that tube was the only thing she knew. He wondered what it must feel like to have no memories of who you are, or where you are from, or even your own likes and dislikes.

When she had her memories back, would she be the same? Would she be a completely different person?

Would she still...like him?

Beast Boy shook his head.

"Come on, Garfield, don't be a jerk," he mumbled to himself, dipping the roller back into the paint. What a selfish thought to have. Of course he wanted Tesla to have her memories back, it was just...well, it's been a while since somebody thought he was cool. Since he'd had somebody other than Cyborg to watch all his favorite movies with. Since somebody'd called him Garfield. If it turned out the memories she got back were memories that made her turn away from him and the Titans, he didn't know what he would do.

He shook the feelings off and set the paint roller in the tray. Maybe the best course of action was to focus on now. He looked around at the room that was now bathed in a pleasant blue color, obscuring the desert scene that once was. He took a seat on the floor with a sigh. When the paint dried he planned to make a mural on the wall by the window, but for now there was nothing he could do.

He put his head in his hands and wondered how many days he had with Tesla the way she was now.
