IMPORTANT MEMO- hey everyone sorry i haven't been updating, I'm back at college and I'm having a really crazy semester, im going to try to update as much as possible. Thank you for all the nice reviews and thanks to everyone who reads this.
You took a deep breath; you could hear the footsteps of the guards walking down the hallway. You couldn't help but feel nervous, it's not everyday you plan to escape from a fire nation prison that no one has ever escaped from. You heard the familiar clank of your cell door being unlocked.
"Get up"
"Time to go see the warden"
You stood and allowed them to grab your arms, you walked between them. You were hoping the guards didn't notice that you weren't struggling.
About halfway down the hallway they did.
"Something's up, normally she struggles a lot more than this" one guard said.
"Relax, didn't you hear, she's being executed tomorrow, she probably just gave up"
Upon hearing this you knew you could use it to your advantage. You changed your posture and walked a bit differently to make it seem like you're depressed. You looked down and never made eye contact with anyone. The guards fell for it.
As you walked past people they all looked at you with pity, word travels fast in a prison.
As you got closer to the corridor near the yard your mind raced with all the possible outcomes, if you messed this up it would be impossible for you to attempt escape again. All of your fear vanished when you saw Jet mopping the floor, exactly where you planned to escape. The corridor was slightly isolated; it was a long thin hallway that had an exit to the yard, an exit to the main hall and a storage closet. It was perfect.
As you approached Jet one of the guards said "outta the way"
Jet stepped aside.
'One' you thought.
You walked past Jet.
'Two'
The guards walked past Jet.
'Three.' In one swift movement you pulled out of the guards grasp and punched one of them in the stomach. At the same time Jet tore off the helmet of the other guard and covered his mouth so he couldn't scream. Then you knocked off the other's guard's helmet and covered his mouth so he couldn't scream. You hit a couple of pressure points on the guard's body effectively knocking him out. Jet on the other hand punched the guard in the face, also effectively knocking him out.
"Well that was easier than I thought" you whispered, as Jet opened the storage closet. Once the guards were in the closet, Jet locked the door.
"Where did you get a key?" you asked.
"I pickpocketed one the guards in the yard" he replied. "Come on we gotta go," he said as he grabbed your hand. The two of you ran through the corridor and into the main hall. Thankfully it was empty but you decided not to test your luck. It only took a few minutes to get to the lift and you only had to hide twice.
The lift platform was the highest place in the prison, which made it easy for you and Jet to hide. You stayed on the roof in the shadows and waited silently for the lift to arrive.
Five minutes before 3:30 it arrived, no one was on the platform yet.
"So how do we hide on the lift?" Jet asked, he clearly hadn't thought about this part.
"Under it see, we can hold on to those," you pointed to two metal bars under the lift that you could hold onto with your hands and feet.
"What if someone looks up?" Jet asked in annoyance. It was a possibility.
"Then you get to 'knock some fire nation heads,'" you replied sarcastically as you rolled your eyes. Jet flashed a smile. "We should get into place before anyone gets here" you told him. He nodded.
Just as you felt confident that you would be able to stay there the entire way across the boiling lake, the group of guards began to arrive and fill the lift. It seemed like forever but you successfully made it across the lake, completely undetected. Now your next challenge, getting off of the island undetected. Two of the guards lingered behind everyone else, they were chatting about their families. It was perfect. You looked at Jet who smiled knowing exactly what you were thinking.
Swiftly and quietly each of you knocked out the guards.
"Why does this seem easier than it should be?" Jet asked.
"Don't question it yet, we still need to get off the island." You replied as you took off the man's armor and began putting it on. Jet did the same.
Casually the two of you walked to the ship that would transport you and the other guards. Jet was right it did seem too easy. Maybe you were just lucky.
When the ship was halfway to the mainland you heard alarms going off at the Boiling Rock. It took longer than you thought for them to realize you were missing. Hopefully they wouldn't figure out that you were off the island until you and Jet are long gone.
You and Jet decided that neither of you should talk unless spoken to until you were off the boat. On the inside your heart raced feeling the adrenaline of escaping but on the outside you appeared to be calm, not that anyone could tell, you were wearing men's armor, thankfully the guard you took it from was pretty slender so it wasn't terribly big on you.
Once off the ship you and Jet walked to a less populated area, you were finally able to speak in hushed tones.
"We need to ditch this armor and get normal clothes." Jet said.
"We can steal some," you whispered, noticing how plenty of people hung their laundry outside.
"That works"
"We should also think of names, Jet and Kana would be too suspicious." You said.
"I'll use Lee, theirs plenty of Lee's in the Fire Nation" Jet chuckled. You suddenly felt sad; Zuko always used the name Lee. You missed him. You silently wondered if Zuko missed you.
"Kana…Kana… Hey listen" Jet hissed.
"What?" you asked slightly dazed, you hadn't realized that you were so lost in thought.
"I asked, what name are you going to go by?" He said slightly annoyed.
"Oh um… Zuri, I guess" you said.
After a while you found a house that seemed like no one was home. On the clothesline were male and female clothes that looked like it would fit you and Jet. After snatching the clothes the two of you ran into the woods, where you found cave. Jet wore a simple black and red training shirt and black pants and you wore a black, red and gold traditional skirt and a red and gold halter-top. It wasn't exactly your style but it would help you blend in.
"We clean up pretty well, don't we" Jet said with a laugh.
You nodded, " and it looks like we're safe for now."
"you know we make a pretty good team" Jet said with a cocky smirk.
