You and Jet wandered around the Fire Nation for six days before you finally found the capital city. Along the way you stole more clothes, now you have a short red skirt and black halter top that are a bit more your style. Jet also helped you figure out how to temporarily dye your hair black. You couldn't believe how easy it was for you to blend in. It was smart to cut and dye your hair; all of the wanted posters of you show you with long red hair. Jet was pretty offended that there wasn't any wanted posters of him.
Wandering through the capital was surreal; you never thought you'd be here. You were waiting on a bench for Jet, he had gone to get food for the two of you while you asked for directions to various places, you figured if you asked about random places you would have a good idea of where the imperial prison is and you were right. It sort of surprised you how much the capital city reminded you of ba-sing-se, it's darker here and a bit dirtier, but everywhere you looked there were shops and people exchanging pleasantries.
As you became lost in thought you barely noticed a group of fire nation soldiers.
"I told you I don't need an escort!" a familiar angry voice yelled.
Your eyes widened. It was Zuko. He was headed in your direction but he didn't see you. At least not yet. If anyone could recognize you like this, it would be Zuko. You started to panic.
"Zuri, what's wrong?" Jet asked using your alias as he sat down next to you and put the food beside him. You simply nodded in Zuko's direction. For a moment Jet panicked, then he smirked. When Zuko was a few yards away Jet spoke, "trust me" he whispered as he got close to you.
You nodded barely able to think with Zuko so close to you.
Jet leaned in and kissed you, shocked, you tried to pull away.
"Play along, if he sees your face, he'll recognize you" Jet mumbled against your lips.
Reluctantly you pretended to kiss Jet. You glanced at Zuko who was now only a few feet away from you. You felt horrible. Before this Zuko was the only person you've ever kissed, Zuko was the only person you wanted to kiss.
"Look, young love" one of Zuko's bodyguards said.
You closed your eyes as Zuko looked in your direction. You could have sworn he mumbled your name sadly as he sighed at the sight of 'young love'.
Once Zuko was a few yards away you pushed Jet off of you. Jet was smiling. You crossed your arms and glared at him.
"Kiss me again and I'll kill you," you threatened. It was killing you that Zuko walked past you, part of you was hoping he would recognize you and get jealous of Jet.
Jet shrugged still smiling.
That night you changed into a black skirt, you kept the black halter top from earlier on. Jet also changed into all black clothes. The two of you silently ran to the imperial prison. There were guards everywhere so you and Jet decided to split up that way if one of you gets caught the other is still free. Jet went to find Longshot and Smellerbee while you looked for your brothers.
Getting past all the guards was not an easy task. You were almost caught on several occasions. After an hour of searching you finally found Kaito and Daisuke.
"Kana what the hell are you doing here?" Kaito whispered.
"What does it look like? Saving you two," you replied rolling your eyes. "You know we have the worst family reunions."
"You should have gone home, theirs no way we can escape, they have guards watching us like hawks" Kaito said.
"The Firelord really didn't appreciate you escaping from the Boiling Rock" Daisuke added.
You rolled your eyes, "Do you two want to escape or not?" you asked.
"Its no use, we've been trying to escape, nothing works, and a guard will be here in 5 minutes," Daisuke said.
"They always check at the same time," Kaito added.
You thought for a moment, then smiled, "then I'll just have to crash your execution" You said with a sly smile.
Kaito and Daisuke looked at each other in confusion then turned to you.
"We trust you little sis"
"Tomorrow, you'll know what to do" You told them. They nodded. Hopefully Jet will help with your plan. "I promise we'll go home together"
Daisuke was about to say something but you heard two pairs of footsteps approaching. For a moment you panicked not seeing an escape route, so you decided to hide in plain sight. You silently climbed up the cell walls and hid in the ceiling rafters. You really hoped no one would look up. So far hiding in plain sight has been working.
Kaito and Daisuke were pretty good actors, they gave no indication that you were in the room.
"Excited for tomorrow?" One of the guards taunted.
"This execution will be fun," another said.
You were three seconds away from jumping down and beating up those guards but you decided against it, it would draw way too much attention.
Daisuke stayed silent, but Kaito loves to make a scene, "Leave it to the Fire Nation to have a public execution" Kaito mumbled.
"What was that scum?" The first Guard snapped.
"Oh nothing, its just your leader has such barbaric ways" Kaito replied with a grin.
The first guard obviously wanted to rip out Kaito's throat but the other guard stopped him. "Relax, they'll be dead tomorrow" and with that the two guards walked away.
Once the coast was clear you jumped down from the ceiling. "Kaito seriously, was that necessary?" You asked sarcastically.
"Hey when you're stuck here, it's the only form of entertainment" Kaito replied. He has a point, you wouldn't do that to the guards at the boiling rock but you did it to the warden all the time.
"You should get out of here," Daisuke said.
You nodded, "Be ready for tomorrow," You said, because goodbye would have been too sad.
"Be safe" Daisuke replied.
"Are we seriously not going to talk about Kana's hair, its fucking black, the last time I checked she was a ginger" Kaito ranted.
You held in a laugh and shook your head "love you both" and with that you left. As you fled you heard Kaito say 'so we really aren't going to talk about Kana's hair.' You smiled, after everything you and your brothers have been through nothing has changed.
You waited for Jet on the rooftop of the prison, it was one of the highest places in the city so you figured no one would look up there. So far you haven't had an issue with hiding in high places. You laid back and closed your eyes as you ran through all the possible scenarios for tomorrow; you smiled knowing your plan will work.
"Ready to go?" Jet asked.
You opened your eyes as you stood up. You were surprised to see Smellerbee and Longshot.
"You two are alright," you said happily.
"Yeah, Jet helped us escape" Smellerbee replied.
"Impressive," you acknowledged. "Come on, we should get back to the inn" They nodded.
Once you got back you told the freedom fighters your plan, having Smellerbee and Longshot just made things easier.
