(Kana's POV)

"Were you followed?" Daisuke asked.

"Only Zuko saw me, and he won't tell anyone" Jet replied. It looked like he would have a pretty nasty black eye and his nose was bleeding.

"Kaito put me down," you said calmly.

Kaito looked at daisuke who shook his head no.

"Why, so you can go back to your traitor boyfriend" Jet mumbled.

"I was going to say because I can walk on my own, now it's because I want to punch you" you snapped.

Kaito chuckled and put you down. You instantly walked over to Jet and punched him in the stomach. He doubled over in pain.

"Was that really necessary?" Jet snapped.

"Yep" you said as you marched ahead of everyone. Kaito hung back with Jet making jokes, Daisuke jogged up to you.

"I'm sorry little sis," he said quietly.

You smiled sadly, "It was the right thing to do."

"You know Zuko wouldn't hurt you"

"I know, though he really wanted to hurt Jet" you replied with a giggle hoping Daisuke wouldn't notice that you're really uncomfortable. You've always been able to tell Daisuke anything but you felt so guilty about still having feelings for Zuko.

"Eh Jet had it coming" He laughed.

"I heard that!" Jet yelled.

"Well its true" Kaito said then started ranting about how creepy it is that Jet follows you around.

The four of you returned to the small house you've been staying in. Smellerbee was already asleep but Longshot was lingering. As soon as you walked in Longshot rushed over, something in his eyes told you that he understood.

"I know, I'm ok, just a bit sad," you said. Longshot frowned, you continued "I'll be alright I just need some time to think." Longshot didn't seem satisfied with your answer but accepted it.

Daisuke started making some tea, while Kaito started to use his bending to heal Jet's bruising. You felt a bit dizzy but brushed it off. You started to think about the cherry blossom tree you saw when you first arrived on Ember Island, it reminded of you of home. You were so distracted you didn't even realize that Daisuke was calling you till he grabbed your shoulders.

"Kana…. Kana! Speak to me, what's wrong? Daisuke said frantically.

"What…" you snapped out of it, you realized you must have spaced out. "I'm sorry, I have a lot on my mind…" you trailed off.

"Geez you scared me" Daisuke and Kaito said at the same time.

"I need to be alone" you said as you stood up, "I need to clear my head" you started to walk to the door, but Kaito and Jet stood in your way.

You were about to tell them to move when Daisuke did, you gave him a look, so he spoke "You've been through a lot, you deserve some time to clear your head."

"You've got to be kidding me" Jet gowned.

"Shut it! Have you ever thought about how Kana feels, you're too fucking busy taking shots at Zuko every chance you get that, you never notice Kana holding back tears" Daisuke yelled.

Kaito looked down in guilt. Jet glared at Daisuke, then looked at you. On the outside you looked pissed off, on the inside you felt like your heart was being ripped out. Anyone who looked at your eyes could see that you're upset.

"Am I the only sane one?" Jet yelled. Smellerbee started tossing and turning in her sleep, Longshot rushed over to soothe her. "This is Prince Zuko we're talking about, he let you be captured in Ba Sing Se, and he sided with his crazy sister." Jet turned to you "are you forgetting that he was going to let you be executed."

You held back tears.

"Zuko didn't know the Dai Li were going to capture us, he thought he was letting us escape, and he had to plan to free Kana, she escaped before that." Daisuke defended.

"But he didn't" Jet snapped. "He hasn't done anything to help Kana!"

You released a breath you didn't realize you were holding in, "I need to think" you said as you walked to the door, "move or I'll make you move." Kaito instantly moved over, he knew better than to mess with you when you're upset. It's rare that you put your needs before everyone else, so when you do your brothers know not to mess with you. Jet however, didn't move. So you swiftly kicked his legs out from under him and as he fell you kicked him to side. Then you left the house. As you walked away you heard Kaito, Daisuke and Jet arguing.

You wondered through the woods trying to find your way back to that cherry blossom tree, you walked along the cliffs towards the port, you'd run into it eventually.

(Daisuke's POV)

"Why are you always defending Zuko?" Kaito asked calmly. While you were in prison and Zuko was helping you, Kaito still hated him. To be perfectly honest you didn't really like Zuko but Kana loves him, so he must be good, you trust Kana's judgment over everyone else's, you always have.

"Because Kana loves him, and he loves her," you said quietly.

"Daisuke this isn't a fairy tale love doesn't matter," Kaito said.

For the first time, you glared at your brother, "how can you say love doesn't matter, Dad was banished for loving Mom, and they love Kana so much that they convinced everyone to allow her to stay with us" you yelled overcome with emotion.

"What do you mean about Kana?" Smellerbee, now fully awake asked. Longshot and Jet looked intrigued.

Kaito sighed, "Kana was the first firebender allowed on Wa Island, when she was a baby she was left to drown in the river near our house, Daisuke was too young to remember but mom and dad instantly feel in love her," Kaito smiled a little, "they knew she was fire nation but they fought to keep her, the island elders eventually agreed. Since then the island has been a refuge for anyone who wants peace, regardless of their heritage"

"Don't you ever tell me love doesn't matter" you mumbled.

"Daisuke, we're in the middle of a war, and right now Zuko is against us, I'm not going to sugarcoat it for kana's sake, she needs to know" Kaito said, acting his age for once, usually you're the more mature one.

"She knows, and its hurting her" you snapped.

"You're all crazy" Jet said.

"Stay out of this!" you and Kaito yelled. The three of you continued to argue.

"Guys!" Smellerbee yelled gaining everyone's attention, "Is it really a good idea for Kana to be out by herself?" she asked, she looked no older than ten, she looked even younger now.

"Kana will be fine" Kaito said.

"She always is" you added.
