You realized about half way through the night that you probably should have waited till the morning or the next night to run away to the sun warrior's ruins. You were so tired from the hike up to the air temple that you simply couldn't walk anymore; luckily you found a nice cave where you spent the rest of the night.
That morning you realized that you should have packed some supplies like a blanket, spare clothes and some food, thankfully there was a stream nearby and an apple tree. So even though you're not the most prepared, things are working out in your favor.
If you're remembering the map correctly, then there should be a town along the stream not to far from the sun warrior's ruins. You can just ask for directions once you get to the town.
(Daisuke's POV)
You slept really late much later than you intended, you were still exhausted from yesterday but you finally decided to get up. You looked around, Smellerbee and Longshot were making food. Jet and Kaito were still asleep. You noticed Kana was missing but you brushed it off, she's always wandering off.
"So what's for breakfast?" you asked.
"Did someone say breakfast!" Kaito yelled as he jumped up. Somehow you had a feeling he was only pretending to sleep, Jet however was not pretending to be asleep, he practically jumped three feet into the air when Kaito yelled. He did not look happy.
"Ah we have some berries, tea and a loaf of bread" Smellerbee said.
You nodded, "we should probably find a town and see what fruits we can gather"
Longshot was apparently way ahead of you because he pulled out the map and pointed to a village that looked to be about two miles away from here. Jet wandered over as kaito stretched.
Jet looked around, "where's Kana?"
"She's probably wandering around, she likes to go for walks in the morning" you replied, you thought back to when you were home, you and kaito would always sleep late but kana pretty much rose with sun, she was almost always up early wandering around the forest or meditating.
"Hey what's this" Kaito mumbled. He looked at it then looked shocked, "ah guys we have problem" he said as he walked over to you and Jet.
Jet snatched the paper out of Kaito's hand, which you then snatched out of Jet's hand. Jet decided not to fight with you and read the note over your shoulder.
~ I'm sorry, but I need to go to the sun warrior ruins. I need to find out why I can't bend anymore. It's driving me insane. Please don't be mad and please don't come after me. I promise I will be back in five days if not sooner. You can start looking for me after that. –Kana ~
"You told her not to go didn't you" you glared at Kaito
"Well not exactly…"
"Actually he forbid her from going" Jet said.
"You idiot that's why she fucking left!"
(Zuko's POV)
You've spent the whole day avoiding people; you were too shocked by everything you had learned the previous night to deal with people, not that you liked to deal with people on a normal day.
You were sitting by the pond in the courtyard. When you were little you and your mother used to feed the turtleducks. You sighed, now you were even more confused than you already were. Why didn't you know that your great-grandfather was avatar Roku? As you watched the turtleducks your thoughts drifted to Kana. Suddenly you remembered what Jet had said at the party.
"Kana's mine now"
You clenched your fists in anger and jealousy. A million thoughts ran threw your mind. Were Jet and Kana really together, they were kissing that one day, but what about the night you spent with Kana under the cherry blossom tree, did that mean nothing? You were so confused. You were about to throw a rock into the pond when you remembered the one time you did, and the mother turtleduck bit you. You dropped the rock instead.
"I need to show Kana how much I love her" you whispered.
(Kana's POV)
You reached the town right before dusk. You found a kind elderly innkeeper who traded you food and other supplies for 2 hours of work. After your work was finished and you collected your supplies you thanked the innkeeper and asked for directions. Then you were on your way.
You decided to camp outside the sun warrior ruins. You'd explore tomorrow. There was a small lake so you decided to bathe. You washed all of the dye out of your hair. You missed your natural hair, besides if your going to fight with the avatar soon you want to look like you.
(Jet's POV)
Kaito and Daisuke had gone into town a few hours ago to get supplies. Kaito wanted to go after Kana but Daisuke persuaded him not to. Right after they left you decided to go after Kana, you really did not like the idea of waiting five days before you could even start to look for her. What if she got into trouble?
(Zuko's POV)
So far you've successfully avoided people all day, not that it was hard, no one in the palace seemed to care that you're here. You stood on a balcony that overlooks the main courtyard. You couldn't help but think of Kana; on clear nights like this she used to love to sit out on the ship's deck and watch the moon or train you to use your duel swords.
"Good evening Prince Zuko" a voice said from behind you, it startled you. You turned to see General Sung; he's been the head of security for the royal family for as long as you could remember. "Its good to see you home"
General Sung was always very kind to you. "Thanks" you mumbled.
"Something is troubling you" General Sung commented. You looked at him shocked. He laughed, "Don't worry I'm not going to pry, but perhaps you'll listen to an old man's troubles." you glanced at General Sung, he wasn't very old, probably a few years younger than your father.
You looked at him in confusion, but you saw no harm in listening, after all he was always very kind to you.
"Did you know I once had a wife and daughter?" he asked.
You shook your head; you've always thought that he just never married.
He smiled a sad smile, just like the one Uncle has whenever he talks about Lu Ten. "My daughter was born only a few months after you. Everyone one was so excited, the two of you would have grown up together. My wife was taking her to the colonies so her parents could meet her, I unfortunately couldn't get leave, and the palace was still on high alert because you were just a few months old. About halfway there their ship was attacked when it was docked on an island to refuel, my wife was killed and our daughter taken"
You were confused, why was he telling you all this?
"I've spent all these years believing that my daughter was dead" he looked at you, " but lately I've had hope, hope that she's alive, that she's happy"
You found yourself asking, "What was your daughter's name?"
"Kana"
You took another look at General Sung, you've never really looked at him before. He graying red hair and the same eyes as Kana. "General Sung" you paused, he gave you a curious look so you continued, "You're daughter is alive, she's kind and beautiful, she's a great firebender and…" you trailed off.
"She's the rogue firebender" he finished, you were actually going to say that you love her and that you fucked up but you realized that's probably not the best thing to say to Kana's biological father. General Sung turned to you "well I've troubled you enough" he said as he stood.
"Goodnight General Sung" you said as he walked away.
"Goodnight Prince Zuko" he said, "oh and Prince Zuko, when you see my daughter, promise you'll protect her" he added.
"But I…" you started.
"I saw the way you two look at each other, I know you'll protect her" and with that General Sung left.
You looked out into the night sky and wondered if Kana was looking at it too.
