A short distance away you saw the avatar's army. You signaled to Daisuke to start waving the white flag. You couldn't help but feel nervous, you are the only firebender, and you know everyone on that ship probably hates firebenders. As your boat approached people began to talk.
"Daisuke! Is that you?" a man with a goatee yelled. You recognized him as one of the earthbenders from the liberated prison.
"Its good to see you Haru" Daisuke yelled as he jumped from your boat to theirs.
Kaito, Jet, Longshot and Smellerbee boarded the ship but you stayed behind, too nervous to move. Instead you watched everyone, they seemed happy to be together.
"Jet! You're alive!" Katara yelled.
"We thought you died" Sokka commented. "Though it was really unclear"
"Longshot and Smellerbee were able to save me" he replied. Then he turned "The Duke! Pipsqueak, long time no see." The freedom fighters were happy to be reunited; they were already trading stories and catching up.
Kaito walked up to Aang, Sokka and Katara. Everyone was happy. You felt pretty awkward.
"What is she doing here?" Katara yelled, you knew she was talking about you.
Everyone turned to you, some with smiling faces, others with looks of confusion and discomfort. Kaito, Daisuke, Jet, Longshot and Smellerbee instantly went to protect you.
"How could you bring her here?" Katara said accusingly. Your friends weren't fazed. The she turned to Jet. "Jet how could you trust her! Firebenders killed your parents"
"Kana has nothing to do with that" Jet replied, Smellerbee and Longshot backed him up. Haru, The Duke and Pipsqueak joined them.
Katara looked flustered. An older water tribe man walked up to her. "Katara we should all talk about this, if she wants to help us we should let her."
"Dad she sided with Zuko! He's our enemy and so is she"
"My sister is not an enemy!"
You noticed that throughout this Aang was quiet, but he finally spoke "Enough!" That quieted everyone's arguments. He walked to the edge of the ship and offered his hand to you "You never agreed with anything Zuko did, and you always found little ways to help us" He said as he helped you onto the ship. "Katara, Kana is the one who returned your mother's necklace, and she saved that little girl in your village. She fought alongside us in Ba-Sing-Se" Aang turned to you and smiled "You're Kaito and Daisuke's sister which is enough of a reason to trust you, but of all people if Jet can trust you, I think we all can" he said with a laugh
You smiled "Thank you, Avatar Aang" You bowed your head in respect.
"You can just call me Aang," He said with a big goofy smile.
Katara still looked upset but everyone else seemed to trust you or at least put up a front. You walked over to Katara.
"What do you want?" she snapped.
"The war to be over, restore balance to the world, to stop being hated because of the race I was born"
Katara was surprised but continued to glare at you. "Its not my fault your people are terrible"
"You still think you're so great just because you were born a water bender. Theirs good and bad people, just because I'm a firebender doesn't mean that I'm bad."
"What about Ba-Sing-Se, you sided with Zuko"
"No I didn't, he sided with his sister, I fought with my brothers, I left Zuko in Ba-Sing-Se, besides if it wasn't for Iroh none of us would have been able to escape"
Katara was speechless.
You sighed "I didn't come here to argue, I just wanted to let you know that you can hate me all you want, but I hope one day we can be allies if not friends" and with that you walked away.
The waterbenders continuously made fog to keep the ships concealed, as you got closer to the Fire Nation. The next morning you listened to Sokka's speech, he was so nervous and messed up a few times, but his father finally took over.
"Let me just clarify a few points for everyone. Today is the day of black sun, and I want to thank you all for your self-sacrifice, and your courage. There are two steps to the invasion, a naval stage, and then a land stage. To gain sea access to the Fire Nation capital, we need to get past our first major obstacle here, The Great Gates of Azulon. Next, we hit the land, and we hit hard. We must fight past their battlements and secure the plaza tower. Once we do that, it's up to the Royal Palace. At that point, the eclipse will begin." Hakoda said
"Excuse me. The Boulder is confused. Isn't the point to invade during the eclipse, when the firebenders are powerless?"
"The eclipse only lasts eight minutes, not enough time for the whole invasion. And the Royal Palace is heavily guarded by firebenders." Hakoda said, you raised your hand to speak. "Kana would you like to add something?" he asked.
You nodded, "During the eclipse make sure you stay on guard, just because they won't be able to firebend does not mean they aren't dangerous, many are skilled swordsmen, and its possible that the Yu Yan Archers may be in the capital."
"Thank you Kana. When this is finished, the Avatar will have defeated the Fire Lord. We will have control of the Fire Nation capital, and this war will be over!" Hakoda finished.
Everyone cheered and soon after they dispersed to prepare. You were below deck waiting, you weren't able to help much but when you could you always helped.
"Kana" Jet called, you turned to him, "Here, I got you a sword, I asked around but couldn't find any duel swords, is this alright?"
You smiled, "thanks Jet, its perfect"
Aang, Toph and Sokka walked over to you, "Kana" Aang said, "will you show me the way to the palace."
"I'll lead you to it but I won't be able to help past that, I've never been inside and Zuko never told me anything about the layout" you replied.
"That's fine, at least getting there will be faster now" Sokka said, you could tell he was a bit uneasy around you but he hid it well. "Do you need anyone with you?" he asked you. You were thankful that he treated you like any other warrior.
"No I'll be fine on my own, I know the city pretty well." Then you turned to Aang, "After I take you to the palace, will it be ok if I go the imperial prison?" you asked.
"Why would you want to go there?"
"They're keeping Iroh there, I need to free him"
"Do what you need to, but be careful"
Soon after the invasion began. The foggy swamp benders invaded the port first, one of them even created a huge seaweed battle monster that he used as armor While groups of Earthbenders started to take out the fire nation equipment.
Aang flew on his glider, while you ran ahead of him on foot. You knocked out a few fire nation soldiers along the way. Once you were away from the port the capital looked like a ghost town, you remembered seeing people everywhere the last time you were here. You didn't like this; theirs no way the capital would be deserted unless they knew about the eclipse.
"Aang be careful, something is wrong" you called to him.
"I don't like the look of this" he replied.
As you approached the gates to the palace Aang landed next to you, "good luck and be careful, go back the invasion squad and find Katara after you free Iroh"
You nodded, "You be careful too" and with that Aang leapt into the air and glided to the palace and you ran towards the prison.
(Zuko's POV)
You sighed; the eclipse would be starting soon. You picked up your duel swords and started walking to your father's chamber in underground bunker. You were nervous but you felt good, you're finally doing the right thing.
(Kana's POV)
Breaking into the imperial prison was easy. All of the guards were rushing around in a panic. You got to Iroh's cell without being seen. He didn't notice you at first, he looked so thin, but strangely healthy.
"It is good to see you Kana" Iroh said with a sly smile.
"Its good to see you too, come on I'm get you out of here" you were about to break the lock on his cell when he broke it easily. "You were able to escape this whole time, why didn't you?"
"Prince Zuko still needed some guidance"
You sighed, but didn't say anything. You had been trying not to think about Zuko all day.
"I think he has finally decided what he wants in life," Iroh said, not that this statement helped, Iroh was as cryptic as usual.
You changed the topic, not wanting to think about Zuko anymore than you already do. "Where are you going to go?" you asked.
"To find some friends," Iroh said as he handed you a white lotus tile, "You should help with the invasion, they need you"
