here's another update!
Maypl Bougher- i try to keep the story as close to the show as possible, and i write the Kana character by thinking about how i would react in situations. Also i went through this chapter before i posted it, i think removed all of the cussing but let me know if i missed any.
You fell asleep shortly after the Zuko incident; you were too confused and overcome with an array of conflicting emotions to deal with anyone. You woke up the next morning feeling horrible, but you ignored it and quickly got ready for the day. You dressed in a strapless red top and a red and black uneven skirt. Your stomach growled loudly, you hadn't eaten in over a day. "I really need to take better care of myself when I'm upset" you mumbled to yourself. It was true, usually you're really good about eating right, exercising and drinking plenty of water but whenever you're upset you tend to forget to eat and sleep way too much.
You frowned as the memories of yesterday's events came rushing back to you. You refused to be upset about it to the extent you were yesterday. It would have been easier if you didn't still love Zuko. But you managed to ignore your sadness.
You walked out of your room and into the main common area where Daisuke and Kaito were making breakfast; Longshot, Smellerbee, The Duke and Teo were playing, Jet and Haru were talking and you didn't really care what Team Avatar was doing, you were still upset about yesterday.
"Morning sleepyhead" Daisuke said as he handed you a plateful of eggs and bacon, you smiled weakly at him as thanks than sat near the edge of the platform, enjoying your food and the view. For the most part everyone left you alone, which you were thankful for.
After a while Aang walked over to you, you glanced at him, "I just wanted to say that I trust you" Aang said with a timid smile, "I know you wouldn't lie to us"
You smiled at the young avatar, "Thank you, I really appreciate that"
Aang sensing that their was no ill will between you, smiled and added "I meditated 3 times yesterday and when I woke up, I've been thinking about my emotions but I still haven't figured out which will fuel my bending"
"That's great, and It will take some time to figure it out, if you don't mind I'd like to skip training today, I'm not feeling well" you replied.
"I understand" Aang nodded, "Feel better," he said as he walked away.
Daisuke and Kaito handed out food to everyone. You finished your food rather quickly, to which Daisuke almost instantly refilled your plate. He probably realized that you didn't eat yesterday. You really are lucky to have such caring brothers.
"Has anyone seen Toph?" Katara asked.
"I haven't seen her since she stormed off yesterday" Sokka said. She stormed off? You had no idea; you hoped that she was ok.
"Maybe she's exploring the temple, theirs plenty of fun places to practice earthbending" Haru suggested.
"I think we should go look for her"
"Let her have fun with her rocks, I'm in no rush to have her yell at us again"
What happened after you left yesterday? You'll have to ask later.
"We can check for her!" The Duke said.
"Yeah! I want to ride that tunnel down to the hall of statues again. It will work a lot better now that I have my breaks fixed." Teo added. Teo, The Duke, Longshot, Smellerbee and Haru left to look for Toph. You couldn't help but smile, at least they were having fun, and you were glad that Longshot and Smellerbee finally had some time to act like kids.
Suddenly the wall that Jet was leaning on collapsed, he rolled out of the way just as the rocks followed by Toph hit the ground. You and everyone else rushed over to see if she was all right.
"Toph! What happened?" Katara asked in a slight panic.
"My feet got burned!" She yelled.
"Oh no! What happened?"
"I just told you, my feet got burned!"
"I meant, how?"
"I kind of went to see Zuko last night" she trailed off nervously.
Everyone was shocked, you heard Jet mumble but you couldn't make out what he said.
"I thought he could be helpful to us," Toph said as Kato and Katara started to heal her feet, "And I thought if I talked to him, we could work something out"
"So he attacked you?"
"Well he did and he didn't. It was sort of an accident," Toph said. You remembered that Zuko was always sort of jumpy, he usually firebends first and asks questions later.
"But did he fire bend at you?" Aang asked seriously.
Toph sighed, "Yes"
"See? You trusted Zuko and you got burned. Literally!" Sokka said.
"Its going to take a while for your feet to heal" Katara said as she stopped healing.
"I'll keep working, no offence but I'm a bit better at healing" kaito said, it was true; Kaito was one of the best healers around. For once Katara didn't look offended.
"Zuko's clearly too dangerous to be left alone, we're going to have to go after him" Sokka said.
"I hate to go looking for a fight but after what he did to Toph, we have no choice" Aang agreed.
"He's crafty, but we'll find a way to capture him"
You couldn't help but laugh, Zuko is a lot of things but crafty isn't one of them, lucky is more like it. He never thinks things through.
"Maybe just invite him back here, he's already offered himself as a prisoner once" Toph said.
"Or you could tell him that Kana will kiss him, that will get him to come" Jet said, which earned him a glare from you and punch from Daisuke.
Kaito continued to heal Toph's feet as you argued with everyone about Zuko. The only people who agreed with you were Daisuke and Toph. You were pretty surprised that Toph was defending Zuko until she mentioned that she startled Zuko, which is why he used his bending, and that he tried to help her, but she ran away. You were relieved; you knew Zuko wouldn't hurt someone for no reason.
Frustrated you walked to edge of the platform; something about gazing off into the distance always relaxed you.
Suddenly you heard a blast as part of the temple exploded, you were too shocked to move as you tried to figure out where it came from.
"Stop!" you heard Zuko yell. You followed his voice to a ledge a bit higher than the one you were on; Zuko was struggling with Combustion Man. "I don't want you hunting the Avatar anymore! I'm ordering you to stop!" Zuko yelled.
Combustion Man shoved Zuko away, you watched horrified as Zuko almost fell off the ledge. Everyone around you watched silently as Zuko struggled to stop him. You felt like you should run but you didn't.
"If you keep attacking I won't pay you!" Zuko yelled, in response Combustion Man grabbed him, "Fine! I'll pay you double if you stop"
Zuko kicked Combustion Man as he tried to attack, making his shot miss. In response he began to attack Zuko, who blocked it by creating a firewall. You watched in horror wishing you could help him.
"Kana get over here!" Kaito yelled but you didn't move. He and everyone else were either near the wall or behind the fountain. You were still near the ledge.
One of Combustion Man's attackes forced Zuko off the ledge, you fell to you knees terrified that Zuko fell. You were relieved to see that he survived by grabbing onto a root. He had a long way to climb.
Aang started to distract Combustion Man, but you barely noticed, you were too worried about Zuko to pay attention. Suddenly you felt someone shield you from falling pieces of the temple. It was Jet.
"You need to pay attention," he warned.
You nodded and glanced at Zuko slowly climbing the root back up to the ledge, then you turned and started to send fire blasts at Combustion Man.
"He's going to blast this whole place right off the side of the cliff!" Toph yelled.
Daisuke kept attempting to earth bend at him but he was too far away to be effective.
Sokka threw his boomerang at Combustion Man, which hit him where his third eye is tattooed. Sokka yelled "Yeah Boomerang!" as Combustion Man hit the ground. You shot a fire blast at him in an attempt to get him while he was down but he quickly stood up and dodged your fire blast. "Aw Boomerang" Sokka said sadly.
Zuko finally got up on to the ledge. He was near Combustion Man, who was now very clearly dizzy. Combustion Man tried to shoot another fire blast at your group, but Zuko kicked his legs out from under him as the fire blast failed causing Combustion Man to fall off the cliff.
Just when you thought you were safe, Combustion Man fired one more fire blast, directly at you. You didn't have time to react. You felt yourself falling as you heard Zuko yell your name. You looked for something to grab but everything around you was falling. You looked across from you; Zuko was about to jump off the ledge after you when you felt someone grab your wrist. It was Jet.
"A little help here" Jet yelled, he wasn't strong enough to hold onto you and pull both of you back onto the platform so your brothers pulled both of you to safety.
"Thanks Jet" you said as you tried to relax, your heart was beating so fast. Daisuke and Kaito were hovering over you like the over protective brothers they are.
"Not problem" Jet said between breaths, "You'd do the same for me"
"I can't believe I'm saying this but" Aang paused, you looked over to see Zuko walking towards your group, "Thanks Zuko" Aang said as Zuko rushed past him and over to you.
"Hey what about me! I did the Boomerang thing!"
Zuko kneeled next to you, Jet glared at him. "Are you alright, I'm so sorry, I didn't think… I mean…are you ok?' Zuko rambled.
"I'm fine" you said nervously, you had no idea why you were nervous. You turned away from Zuko trying to hide your nervousness but he stayed close to you. It looked like Jet and Kaito wanted to kill him.
Aang cleared his throat, "As I was saying, thank you Zuko"
Zuko finally tore his attention away from you, but stayed next to you. "Listen, I know I didn't explain myself very well yesterday, I've been through a lot in the last few years and it's been hard. But I'm realizing that I had to go through all those things to learn the truth. I thought I had lost my honor, and that somehow, my father could return it to me. But I know now that no one can give you your honor. It's something you earn for yourself, by choosing to do what's right. All I want to do now is play my part in ending this war, and I know my destiny is to help you restore balance to the world." Then he turned to Toph and bowed his head, "I'm sorry for what I did to you. It was an accident. Fire can be dangerous and wild, so as a firebender, I need to be more careful and control my bending, so I don't hurt people unintentionally." Then he turned back to you and whispered, "I've wronged you the most and I will do anything to earn your forgiveness." You timidly smiled at Zuko but flinched away when he tried to grab your hand, you don't know why you flinched but Zuko looked so hurt by your action.
Aang stayed silent for a moment than said. "I think you are supposed to be my firebending teacher. When I first tried to learn firebending, I burned Katara, and after that, I never wanted to fire bend again. But now I know you understand how easy it is to hurt the people you love. I'd like you to teach me." Aang than looked at you and panicked, "I mean if that's ok with you, you're a great teacher Kana! But maybe you could teach me with Zuko, I mean if that's alright!"
You looked at Zuko who nodded, and then you said "Its fine with me"
"Thank you" Zuko said as he bowed his head, "I'm so happy that you've accepted me into your group.
"Not so fast, I have to ask my friends what they think," Aang turned to Toph, "You're the one Zuko burned, What do you think?"
"Let him join, besides" she pounded her fists, "I'll have plenty of time to get back at him for burning my feet.
"Sokka?"
"Hey, I just want to defeat the firelord, if you think this is the way to do it, I'm all for it."
"Katara?"
Katara glared at Zuko, you could see the sweat beginning to form on his face as be began to panic, then Katara said "I'll go along with whatever you think is right" Zuko released a breath as he relaxed.
"Kana, what do you think? You know Zuko the best and you've been hurt by him the most" Aang said.
You were a bit shocked that Aang wanted your option; you could feel Katara glaring at you. Zuko looked down feeling ashamed. "I think, it will be good for both of you." Zuko gave you a confused look, as if he was looking for a more personal answer. Your answer completely detached you from the situation.
Zuko turned to Aang "I won't let you down" he said with excitement, you had to admit it was good to see Zuko happy. Then he turned to you, "I promise," he said seriously, making the double meaning of the statement blatantly obvious.
Shortly after Zuko left with Sokka to settle in. You released a breath you didn't realize you were holding in. Daisuke and Kaito have been following you around all day making sure that you are ok; you did almost fall to your death today so it was understandable.
"I'm fine really, but your hovering is starting to make me nervous"
"Seeing my baby sister fall off a ledge makes me nervous" Kaito said in a panic.
"For once I agree with Kaito." Daisuke added.
You sighed, "I love you guys, you're the best brothers ever" Kaito and Daisuke smiled and finally stopped following you so closely. Once you were able to sit by yourself you thought about what will happen next. Now that Zuko is here, everything is even more confusing than it already was. You knew you would have to talk to him soon.
(Zuko's POV)
Sokka led you to a room, he pointed out everyone else's rooms along the way, unfortunately Jet and Kaito's rooms were the closest to yours and Kana's was the furthest.
"So, here you go, home sweet home, I guess, you know, for now. Unpack? Lunch, soon? Uhhh ... welcome aboard?" Sokka said, you awkwardly smiled at him, not knowing how to respond. "Yeah… " He trailed off and left the room, where he met Aang, as they walked away you heard Sokka say. "Okay, this is really, really weird."
You frowned but decided to not let it bother you. You took out a painting of Uncle and remembered a conversation you had with him three years ago about destiny. You smiled at the memory, you missed him so much, you hoped that he would be able to forgive you.
You turned and was startled to see Katara in the shadows. She did not look happy to see you, not that she ever looks happy to see you.
"You might have everyone else here buying your ... transformation, but you and I both know you've struggled with doing the right thing in the past. So let me tell you something, right now. You make one step backward, one slip-up, give me one reason to think you might hurt Aang, and you won't have to worry about your destiny anymore. Because I'll make sure your destiny ends ... right then and there. Permanently." And with that she left the room.
You frowned; she had every right to think that of you, you just wished that someone would give you a chance. You sat on your bed, with your face in your hands; you were starting to get a headache.
You heard footsteps so you looked up to see Jet.
"Great" you mumbled.
"You've got a lot of nerve coming here. Don't you think you've hurt Kana enough" Jet said as he chewed on a piece of grass and glared at you.
"I'm trying to make everything right, I know I fucked up. I've changed, I want to show Kana that" you said, your tone was surprisingly civil.
"Kana doesn't need you, you better stay away from her, if you know what's good for you."
"I'll stay away, if she tells me herself" you stood up, as you began to lose your temper. "Until then I'm going to do everything I can to make it up to her" you clenched your fists as you glared at him.
Jet was about to say something, when he heard footsteps headed this way. Jet turned and left the room. Shortly after Daisuke walked in.
"Are you going to threaten me too?" you asked as you unclenched your fists and relaxed a little.
Daisuke nodded, "As a brother, if you hurt my sister one more time, I'll crush you" he said simply, you have never seen Daisuke look so serious. It was terrifying. Something in his tone made you really believe that he would crush you. As his glare softened, he said, "but as a friend, you need to talk to Kana soon, you really messed up" and with that he walked out of the room.
You decided you would give Kana some time; you would talk to her tonight. You needed to know she feels about you and she needs to know about her biological father.
