Hey everyone, so i've got some good news, some bad news and some more good news. The good news is i've officially finished writing the final chapter, the bad news is that its super soon like chapter 107, the good news is it was originally suppose to end on chapter 106 but Kana is probably the best character i've ever written so I'm pretty sad to see her story end so I decided to give you a chapter that shows her life after the events of the last airbender
On a different note i want to apologize i know the last time i was posting chapter i said i was going to finish the story which i was totally ready to do but then my laptop decided to die and i was without it for a few months and i spent more of that time trying to recover all of my files including this story.
~story start~
"Guys aren't we forgetting something," Toph said as she dramatically waived her arms. Everyone looked at Toph. "What if Aang doesn't come back?" She questioned.
"Sozin's comet is arriving and our destinies are upon us. Aang will face the Fire lord"
Iroh paused for a moment then continued. "When I was a boy, I had a vision that I would one day take Ba Sing Se. Only now do I see that my destiny is to take it back from the Fire Nation so the Earth Kingdom can be free again"
"That's why you gathered the members of the white lotus," Suki questioned.
"Yes" Iroh nodded, "Zuko, you must return to the Fire Nation so that when the Fire Lord falls, you can assume the throne and restore peace and order. Azula will be there waiting for you."
"I can handle Azula" Zuko said confidently.
"Not alone, you'll need help" Iroh advised.
Zuko looked at you and said "How about it Kana we'll defeat her together"
"This is one fight I can't be involved in" You replied frowning, Zuko opened his mouth to speak but waited for you to explain. "Azula hates me, she blames for her friends turning on her, I don't want anything to cloud your judgment or mine, which is why this is one fight we can't do together."
"Why would my judgment be clouded? I'll protect you" Zuko asked in confusion.
"That's exactly why, I know if I saw her about to hurt you, I'd throw myself in front of you"
"And I'd do the same" Zuko said in realization. His expression softened as he felt the gravity of your situation this fight may very well be a fight to the death and if the two of you were to fight together you would each spend the entire fight focused on protecting the other.
"As strong as we are together, we're also each other's greatest weakness" you said as rested against Zuko's chest. Instinctively he wrapped his arms around you pulling you closer.
"You're right, but I still can't do it alone" Zuko replied, you nodded to Katara, she may hate you but she is the best choice to fight Azula, "Katara how would you like to help me put Azula in her place?" Zuko asked.
"I would be my pleasure" She responded without hesitation.
"Guys check out the intelligence report Longshot got" Kaito said. "There's going to be two waves of the fire nation army, the first will launch before Sozin's comet arrives, the second after, we're going to need to split up to take out the army already deployed and the one that's still on the mainland"
"Where did you get that?" Jet asked, Longshot just shrugged and looked off into the distance. Jet just shrugged. You decided to stop questioning Longshot a long time ago.
"Wait so what about us?" Sokka asked. "What's our destiny today?"
"What do you think it is?"" Iroh asked.
"I think that even though we don't know where Aang is, we need to do everything we can to stop the air fleet" Sokka decided.
"I can take out the fire navy," Kaito stated as he flexed his muscles.
"Not if I beat you to it" Daisuke said with a sly grin.
"Me and the freedom fighters can take out the second wave" You decided.
"We'll make sure they never made it to the shore" Jet added. "And we'll be your backup on the mainland"
"And Kana will keep Jet in line" Smellerbee added, with Longshot and the duke nodding in agreement.
"Then it's settled, and when Aang does face the fire lord we'll all be right there if he needs us" Toph said as she smacked her fists together.
Soon after everyone prepared to leave. It seemed like everyone had a master. Daisuke and Toph were talking to Bumi, Sokka to Piandao, Katara and Kaito were talking to Pakku, and strangely enough Jet and the freedom fighters were getting a pep talk from Jeong Jeong.
Zuko stood nearby with Iroh, you couldn't help but overhear their conversation.
"So if I'm going to be Fire Lord after the war is over, what are you going to do?" Zuko asked.
"After I re-conquer Ba Sing Se, I'm going to re-conquer my tea shop and I'm going to play Pai Sho everyday" Iroh said we a warm smile and laugh.
"Are you sure you kids are ready for this?" Sung asked putting a hand on your shoulder.
"We don't have much of a choice," you admitted, "But I can't think of anyone else I would want to save the world with" You added with a smile.
You watched as Daisuke and Kaito excused themselves from their respective masters and headed in your direction. As Daisuke walked past the former fire nation general and your angsty boyfriend, Iroh stopped him. Daisuke looked at Iroh in confusion as the old man handed him something you couldn't see. Zuko looked just as confused as you were. Iroh then whispered something to Daisuke before allowing him to go.
"What was that all about?" You whispered so only Daisuke could hear, as your parents began giving you and your siblings a pep talk.
Daisuke held up a white lotus gambit, "the order of the white lotus will reveal all of its secrets in time, it seems I am their newest member"
"That sly old man" you mumbled.
You listened as each of your parents, even Sung, offered advice, words of wisdom and expressed how proud they are of the three of you. For the first time since you left your island you really looked at your brothers. Kaito has always been the strong one, but he looked older, more mature, and stronger than ever, you couldn't help but wonder where his life would lead him. Daisuke's destiny was a little more clear, he's always been wise beyond his years but his exchange with Iroh only proved to you that one day he would be a grand master of the order of the white lotus. You could hardly believe so much has happened these past few months; you glanced at Zuko and smiled before returning your gaze to your mom just in time to catch the end of her speech.
"No matter what happens we're a family, after all of this is over, I expect all of you home for dinner, just because you're all going to be hero's doesn't mean you don't have chores" She said with a laugh. "You've all grown so much in the past year, and I am so proud of all of you, I love you more than anything," she said as your father wrapped an arm around her waist in comfort.
"Family hug!" Kaito yelled as he pulled you, Daisuke, Mom and Dad into a hug, lifting the four of you off the ground. Kaito suddenly shifted to the side as he said "You too Sung" Then promptly pulled Sung into the hug. Once the bear like water bender was satisfied he released everyone.
Once everyone said their goodbyes everyone split into two groups; You, Zuko, Katara and the freedom fighters climbed into Appa's saddle preparing to head out to Fire Nation capital, while Kaito, Daisuke, Sokka, Suki and Toph mounted an eel-hound that would take them to the air and navel vessels.
"Goodbye everyone. Today destiny is our friend, I know it" Iroh said encouragingly. And with that the eel hound took off running, while Appa flew off.
Sometimes it really amazed you how fast Appa can fly, in a matter of hours you were already halfway to the fire nation capital. Everyone sat in a tense silence, no one knew what to expect. You wished that Kaito and Daisuke we were with you, they always know how to lighten the mood. You rested against Zuko's chest as the two of you stared off into the distance. Zuko was absently running his fingers threw your hair. Across from you Jet was going over battle plans with Longshot, Smellerbee and The Duke, every so often he'd ask for your opinion but for the most part he was just trying to make sure you and himself would do a majority of the fighting, he ordered The duke and Smellerbee to only do stealthy sneak attacks, and Longshot to keep his distance and shoot arrows for cover. Katara sat by herself awkwardly, you wanted to say something to her, the threat of being killed in action made you not want to leave on bad terms with her but you couldn't find the right words.
Just over the horizon you could see the shore of the fire nation mainland. About a mile away from you, you could see a tidal wave heading towards what could only be the fire nation navy. Kaito is a lot of things but subtle is not one of those things.
"Is your brother really going to take out the fire navy army with a tidal wave?" Zuko asked in disbelief as if reading your mind.
"I wouldn't put it past him" you smiled thinking of your bear like brother. At this point everyone was staring at Kaito's tidal wave fast approaching the fire navy army. You'll be directly overhead when they meet.
Suddenly one of the lead fire navy vessels seems to be torn apart. "Whoa" you heard Jet mumbled.
You couldn't help but giggle, "It looks like Daisuke beat Kaito to it. He's never gonna let Kaito live that one down."
"Remind me to never get on their bad side," Zuko stated.
Kaito's tidal wave finally reached the fire navy causing one ship to capsize and two others to take emergency precautions.
You felt a sudden surge of power; you could tell Zuko could feel it too. Off in the distance you could see Sozin's comet, it was beautiful, it reminded you of when you met the dragon masters at the sun warriors civilization. You frowned, Ozai is going to try to use something so beautiful to destroy the world. As if reading your thoughts, Zuko squeezed your hand in an attempt to comfort you.
The fire nation main land was close now, soon you and the freedom fighters would leave Zuko and Katara. Jet was stretching preparing for the fight, Longshot was sharpening his arrows and checking his bow, while Smellerbee and the Duke were whispering plans to each other. You turned to Zuko.
"Its almost my stop" you told him sadly.
Without hesitation Zuko pulled you into a tight embrace and buried his face in your neck. You instantly wrapped your arms around him.
"We should have eloped when we had the chance," he mumbled.
You knew he was just worried about fighting Azula and worried about your safety. "Beat Azula and we won't have to" you told him as you pulled away just enough so you could look at his face.
Zuko smiled weakly as you gently brushed your fingers against his scar. Zuko closed his eyes and leaned in to kiss you when you heard three loud 'ew's' and a sharp intake of breath. You blushed in embarrassment as you and Zuko opened your eyes, you hide your face against Zuko's chest as he glared at the freedom fighters for ruining your moment.
You could see the fire nation army now; Katara had Appa land about a quarter of a mile away. You pulled away from Zuko, he gave you a curious look, but you waived him off signally you'd be back in a moment.
(Jet)
As Kana walked away from Zuko you walked up to him. You reached out to shake hands, Zuko looked at your hand for a moment before smiling and shaking your hand.
"I know she doesn't need it, but I'll keep her safe," You promised as you and Zuko looked a Kana.
"I'm going to hold you to that" Zuko replied. "And while you're at it, don't die"
"Same to you" you said as you chewed on a piece of grass. You paused for a few moments, wondering what Kana could be saying to Katara, and then you turned back to Zuko and found yourself saying, "You know I never would have thought my best friend would be a firebender let alone the future fire lord"
"I never though I'd think of you as my closest friend, " Zuko nearly laughed, "After all you tried to steal my girlfriend."
You couldn't help but laugh, "Can you blame me? Kana is really special, you're a lucky guy," you said lightly.
"I'm beyond lucky" Zuko sighed, "I've made so many mistakes in my life but I must have done something right to make Kana love me"
It was weird hearing Zuko so open with his emotions but you understood where he was coming from. "Like I said on the way to Ba Sing Se, guys like us need to stick together." Unlike in Ba Sing Se, Zuko nodded in agreement.
As Kana walked back towards you and Zuko, you nodded to Zuko then headed back to the freedom fighters.
(Kana)
"What do you want?" Katara asked, her tone wasn't as cold as usual, it actually almost sounded forced.
"I don't want to leave off on bad terms, just in case"
"Why to ease your conscious" She snapped.
"I don't understand why you hate me so much, what did I ever do to you, you've even forgiven Zuko why can't you accept me" you argued, this was not how you planned this conversation to do but you let your emotions get the better of you. Apparently some of Zuko's angst rubbed off on you.
Katara stayed silent for a moment, and then said, "I don't hate you." You looked at her curiously waiting for her to continue. "I guess I was jealous," she said quietly.
"Why?" you asked, usually you wouldn't be so pushy but you were finally getting answers.
"I don't know" she paused a moment, "At first I hated you for being a firebender, I knew you never agreed with anything Zuko did when he was chasing us but I blamed you for not stopping it, but when you joined our group, I guess I just felt like I was being replaced."
You scrunched your nose in confusion. "Katara I'd never try to take your place," you said softly as you out a comforting hand on her shoulder, surprisingly she didn't flinch away.
"Aang trusted you without question, so did Toph, I was jealous" She admitted. "Do you think you could forgive me?" she asked sincerely.
You smiled and nodded. "Consider it in the past, no hard feelings?" you questioned. Katara nodded in agreement. "Friends?" you asked.
"No" Katara replied simply, you frowned taken aback. "Make it through today, then we'll be friends" she said with a sly smile.
"Deal" you agreed.
