You are now Roxy Lalonde and you totally fucked up. Okay, not really, since you can trust Porrim. She won't tell a soul, but she is Kanaya's dancestor and Kanaya might be able to tell whether or not Porrim is hiding something.
Now, what exactly you told Porrim regards to Rose, who only told you because you caught her red handed. It's nothing bad, obviously, and it involves Rose's relationship with Kanaya. You aren't going to reveal anything more on that matter.
Rose is planning to propose to Kanaya in the most romantic way possible.
Wow, way to go at not revealing anything – but you're excited so who can blame you.
You caught Rose in a jewelry store, buying a very pricy and gorgeous ring with purple and jade gemstones on it. You knew it was immediately for Kanaya because of the colors, you had thought it was just a gift until you decided to walk up to Rose in the store. You remember the startled look on her face when she saw you – that was another clue. Then you got a close up of the ring and saw words written on the inside, and knew for fact that it was an engagement ring. Rose made you swear on the cat not to tell a soul.
Yet, Porrim now knows. It was just a slip of the tongue though, not on purpose.
"That explains a lot." Porrim replies.
"Huh?" You sip on your coffee, glancing up at her.
"It's nothing really, but Kanaya's been fussing over how Rose has been 'sketchy' for the past few weeks. She's been really paranoid if anything, she thinks Rose isn't as interested in her anymore." Porrim sighs, pushing back a lock of hair in her face behind her pointed ear. You're not going to lie; you think she's pretty hot. But let's focus on the present topic hear.
"Oh man, that can't be good."
"Hardly, but she'll be fine. She went to visit Karkat yesterday, most likely to jam it out."
"Oh my god, they are so pale for each other!" You almost giggle. You think it's nice that when one of them needs help they always tend to go to the other.
"I know, and with everything that's going on they'll probably finally become Moirails."
"They better otherwise I'll lose ten bucks to Sollux." You sigh and lean back against the booth seat. The coffee shop Dave works at has nice beverages and furniture, and anyone who enters is generous enough to keep their voices down as if it were a library. It's the perfect place to talk. "So, you won't tell anyone about Rose's plan, right?"
"I just texted Karkat about it," she says. Okay, maybe you can't trust her.
"What? Why?!"
"Because, Kanaya thinks her relationship with Rose is crashing. And she is going to talk to Karkat about that. So, if he knows what's really going, he'll know what to say to her. He won't to tell anyone, though, so don't worry."
"Oh." You guess you can't go against that logic.
"So, what was this thing you were going to tell me before you 'accidentally' told me Rose's secret?" She asks. Oh, right. There was a reason for meeting her in the first place.
"Hehe, sorry," you shrink, "Anyway, since Rose and Kanaya are, you know, a bit distant because Rose is taking this proposal plan way too seriously. I was thinking we could have a girls' night out with just the four of us. You know, get them together for once. Seriously, they hardly spoke to each other during thanksgiving."
"Sounds like a good idea. But, how exactly are you going to get them to join? Rose is taking turns staying with Dave at the hospital, and Kanaya will probably stay with Karkat until he gets through his maturation."
"Touché." You finish off your coffee. "I haven't thought it completely through, but maybe we can invite Karkat too, if he's not unwell. But, since it's getting close I guess he'll probably be too sick. We could have someone else stay at the hospital, like John – I know he has been wanting to see how Dave is. Maybe we could have someone else stay with Karkat too, like Terezi or Jade even."
"I'm not sure it'll be that easy to separate them from their respective knights."
"Of course it won't be easy. But we could just keep it in mind."
"Is there anything else?"
"Hmm, no. I think we've discussed everything I wanted to." You tap your cheek, "Is there anything you want to talk about?"
"Have you heard the rumors about Terezi and Nepeta?"
"That they're totally dating? Yep." You smile at the thought. You think they're good for each other, and they're always happy with one another. However, you now rumors can be just rumors. Regardless, you hope they end up in some quadrant.
Porrim continues the conversation, that leads to the subject of John and Terezi black flirting. It's pretty funny Terezi black flirts with John, and though he's unsure about it he doesn't stop it from happening. If anything you think he's definitely tempted to become kismesises with her.
After chatting for a bit more, Porrim finished her coffee and the two of you agree to go the movies, since you might as well make the most of the day. While on your way there, you manage to perfect your plan to get Rose and Kanaya in the same room and talk to one another. Or, it's relatively perfect.
You are Karkat Vantas and you wake up feeling as sick as yesterday, although you decide it's not so bad since you could have woken up feeling worse. It's nothing a shower couldn't fix, and you would enjoy one right about now. So, you push yourself up, stretching and listening to your spine crack. You almost don't notice Kanaya sleeping next to you.
Oh, right. She stayed the night. It was nice of her to visit, you think, though you probably could have done without someone knowing about your poor health. She'll try to help and you know she will alert others of it and they'll overreact. It's not a big deal, really. It'll be a big deal when you can't move for shit.
Kanaya stirs in her sleep, but doesn't wake up. If you woke her up you will literally thrust your fist through time and punch your past self for doing so. She's being helping out since she got here, she deserves some extra hours of sleep.
Carefully, you crawl out of bed and sneak your way to the washroom. Stripping down you find that the rest of you is completely unhealthy looking. Your fingers trace over your bones that are much easier to see than usual. You look as though you haven't eaten in days. You need to eat more if you want to keep up your energy, since your body is burning up everything you eat so quickly. Sighing, you step into the shower.
It's a warm shower, since warms showers releases body tension and you are really tensed. You're not sure why, possibly because of maturation or maybe you're just stressed out. You are sure to stretch yourself out more, raising your arms over your head, and try to rub out the knots in your muscles.
Over the noise of the running shower, you can vaguely hear some shuffling coming from outside that bathroom. Dammit, you were hoping she at least sleep a little longer. Hopefully, she's just getting up for a drink and then returning to bed. Or better yet, maybe you're just hearing things.
When you step out of the shower, wrapping a towel around you, you smell a sweet fragrance, one that is normally fixed with pancakes. As you enter your room, Kanaya is no longer there. Running a hand through your still wet hair, you sigh and get dressed.
You find her in the kitchen, making what you assume to be that last batch of pancakes as you eye the already large stack of pancakes on a plate. Next to the plate of mouth-watering pancakes, there's a bowl of strawberries and a bowl of blueberries. You're not sure where she got the fruit, as you don't remember buying any. There's also a bowl of whip cream, you know it can't be homemade as you don't have the ingredients to make it, but it sure doesn't look like it was store bought.
"Good morning," she greets you, flipping the last pancake over. She looks like she's been awake for a while, rather than just having got up. Maybe that has to do with her being a rainbow drinker, who doesn't need to drink blood as often, hell, if ever. You're not sure when the last time she drank blood was, in fact you think that while she has the fangs and luminous skin the game allowed her to not need or thirst for blood.
"Morning," you reply. "You didn't have to make breakfast, you know?"
"Yes," she says, "but I thought I should since you probably haven't had a good breakfast for a while - judging by what lack of food I found in your cupboards."
You frown, "yeah, where'd you get the fruit?"
"There was a fruit truck outside the building," she places the final pancake onto the stack, turning off the stove. You guess that makes sense, a lot more sense than her running all the way to a grocery store and back within the amount of time it took for you to have a shower. "Well, dish up. You need more in your diet than noodle soup and fast food."
"Yeah, yeah." You roll your eyes at her. You love Kanaya, but sometimes it's like she's more of a mother than a friend.
You pile a few pancakes onto your plate, topping it off with more strawberries than blueberries and a nice big glob of whip cream. Kanaya does the same, and joins you in the living room. You both eat and enjoy the small talk, to avoid a silence.
Kanaya mentions how she's been taking cooking lessons with Jane, and that her lessons are better than the cooking shows on T.V. In return for the lessons, Kanaya has been teaching her "how to professionally sew". Jane is planning on pranking John, apparently, and Jane needs to make something that requires sewing – she refused to tell Kanaya what she was making.
After you finish, you help her with the dishes. She has you take some pills to boost your immune system. You don't think the medicine will do much at this point, but it's worth a try you guess. You promised that you would stay at the best of your health, if you could, when maturation starts.
Kanaya excuses herself and goes to the washroom. Meanwhile, you go through your cupboards and fridge. You're out of milk and it wouldn't hurt to stock up on food. You think the only thing you have is some cereal, one last instant noodle cup, and maybe some bread and jam.
You sigh, a shopping run it is then. You grab your coat from the closet. You think about leaving a note to let Kanaya where you're going. It would be the wisest decision to let her know so she doesn't panic or anything.
You are searching for a pen and paper when she comes out of the washroom – never mind then. You can just tell her, maybe. She notices you with your coat on and her expression becomes searching.
"Karkat, what are you doing?" She asks.
Great. You know where this is headed. "I'm just going to get some groceries. I'll be back in an hour."
"You really shouldn't," She begins, but you don't allow her to continue.
"Kanaya, do I look like if I go outside I'll immediately die. That all my organs might implode? The answer is no. And my reply to your idea is also no. I can take care of myself just fine thank you."
She sighs, "Karkat, you can get even sicker if you go outside in your condition."
"My 'condition' isn't going to change shit for me. I'm still going to get fucked up the ass, metaphorically, by my DNA. So, can you let me keep my crippled dignity while I still can?"
Finally, after what seems like hours, she moves out of your way. "Fine," she says, "but I have to come with you." She pulls her coat out of the closet and begins putting it on. You're already wearing yours, since you had tried to sneak out.
"Whatever. Just don't be a backseat shopper." You mumble. Your phone buzzes and you reply to the text message in seconds. Looks like you have some new plans tonight.
Sorry for taking so long again. I've been working lots this summer. So, here you go.
