When Natasha saw my eyes, she turned at least two shades paler.

I'd seen them enough times to know that they were truly horrible, so really, I couldn't blame her.

They were blue, as usual, but they were a far more radiant blue, like as deep as a painted wall. Along with that, instead of having normal stuff in my irises like usual, there were small scatters of jagged lines there, and they looked like lightning bolts on a clear blue sky.

"Your eyes," she breathed.

"What, you didn't know about them?" I asked sarcastically.

"There were hardly any photos of you - most old and unclear. Of course I didn't know."

She seemed to be really interested in them, because she'd now edged closer towards me, staring at me in confusion. I didn't really blame her.

"So you wanna tell me where you got them from?" Natasha now had composed herself, quickly asking me a question to overthrow her amazement.

"I- I got them when they injected me."

"With what?"

"A sample of a new super serum," I answered calmly.

"I thought that never worked. Other than on Captain America..."

"It worked differently on me," I replied again, of course knowing who Captain America was. Some buff guy from the 1940s as well. Who knows? Maybe I'd passed him sometime in the streets before HYDRA happened.

Natasha waited for me to evaluate.

"It increased my powers along with a tiny bit of my strength and skill," I explained. "Didn't make me super buff, but I can pack a punch."

"That also reminds me," she now said. "That I am supposed to ask you to show your powers to me."

I swallowed hard.

This could be really bad. Really, really bad.

Instead, I asked Natasha a simple question, gesturing towards the door.

"What's that door made out of?"

"Vibranium. You wouldn't get through it even if you tried."

This made me smirk. She had no clue. So I lifted my hands, concentrated my energy towards the door, and ripped it out of its hinges.

This made Natasha take back a few steps and pulled her gun out. I almost smiled.

"Don't worry. I trust you, remember?" I casually waved my hand, the door now disintegrating.

"You have telekinesis?"

I chuckled slightly. "No."

"Then what," she asked, gesturing to the now empty doorframe. "Was that?"

"I can create, manipulate and destroy vibranium," I replied nonchalantly, looking like it's no big deal.

"Right," Natasha said. "Well, it's about time I take you to see director Fury. Follow me."

I followed the agent outside, now freely looking around. There weren't a lot of agents in my way, but whichever were shuddered under my gaze. Obviously I've forgotten how intimidating my stare is.

Soon, we went into an elevator and Natasha pressed the top button to meet the director. I was still trying to figure out who that was.

The elevator dinged after a short amount of time, and the doors slid open. She strutted out confidently, with me at her tail pacing behind her.

She opened a door and then turned to me, saying, "You can see the director now. Have fun."

I hesitantly shuffled into the room, almost taken aback by how huge and modern it was. Several black couches sat there, a glass coffee table in the middle. A huge-ass screen scaled across basically the entire wall, and a black desk occupied by an intimidating man sat in front of an even huger window.

Suddenly I felt a bit afraid.

The man had a black leather eyepatch and it suited him, with his matching huge black coat and clothes.

He stood from his desk, and walked up to me, his cautious gaze stopping to look at my eyes. I could see the shock in his eyes, but still said nothing. Then, he finally broke the silence.

"You must be Charlotte."

"That I am," I replied quickly.

"I am Nick Fury, director of S.H.I.E.L.D. But I'm sure agent Romanoff has already let you know that."

I silently nodded, and listened as he kept speaking.

"Your powers are truly extraordinary," he paused, looked at me. "And precious."

Probably to HYDRA.

"That is why we're going to a friend's," he said. "I think you might know him."

"All people I know are most likely dead or after me," I replied dryly.

"You might be surprised."

With that, he strode out, I silently followed him.

We both walked into the elevator again, this time he pressed the button for ground level. For some reason, it wasn't my priority to escape anymore. These people, although a tad shady, seemed trustworthy enough.

When we both got out, I saw a man with glasses and blonde hair, his face wrinkled like paper. He saw us, and immediately walked towards Nick Fury shaking his hand.

"Director," he said nicely. But his eyes flickered as he noticed me. It looked like he recognised me. Whatever it was, he scared the shit out of me.

"Who's this?" The man asked casually, pointing at me.

"That," Fury said. "Is a little friend of mine. She's just a guest."

The man's shark-like eyes scanned over me again. I shifted uncomfortably in my spot. His gaze bored into me and I almost snapped.

Luckily, he diverted his eyes from me and then toothily smiled at Fury. I think it looked absolutely horrible.

"Very well then," he replied. "Have fun."

As they walked off, Alexander Pierce spoke into his secret headset.

"Call in the Soldier," he murmured. "He has an assassination to make. Also, he needs to retrieve something." He paused.

"I've found the Silver Asset."

Nick Fury and I were now driving in a black SUV in the streets of Washington. He was on the phone with some agent called Agent Hill.

"I have a parcel for you," Fury said, as if it were a recited play. Obviously I was missing out on some secret codewords.

"When will I receive it?" Agent Hill's voice came back.

"In around 3 hours, depends how much traffic there is. Remember, it's my mother's, so keep it safe."

We stopped at the traffic light, a bunch of cops next to us. Fury glanced over to them sarcastically.

"Wanna see my lease?"

The cops didn't reply, but just flashed their lights, signalling for him to pull over. Fury rolled his eyes and I had to resist to roll mine too.

As we drove, suddenly a bunch of cop cars slammed into us at breakneck speed, slamming us into a sidewalk. I tried to shake the adrenaline rushing in my ears and Fury stabbed a needle into his arm.

Now they were shooting at us and we were wedged in between 3 cars. I pulled down the scream that wanted to escape my throat, and instead yelled,"Those guys definitely aren't normal cops!"

Fury was talking with the computer system thing in the car, and suddenly pulled out a machine gun, holding it steady. They were bumping the car with some weird device now, and the van almost toppled over and this time I yelped.

Out of nowhere, Nick started shooting all around with his machine gun, shooting everyone in his way. "Get me outta here!"

The car began driving automatically, and Fury yelled,"Gimme the wheel!" He grabbed the steering wheel and weaved through the oncoming traffic. I braced myself in my seat, praying we wouldn't crash.

There were several cop cars still after us and now it was my turn to go. I shot several spikes of vibranium at oncoming cops, knocking them clean dead. I wanted to mentally high-five myself, but I knew there wasn't any time for that. Instead, I sighed in relief as we finally got onto a clear road.

Or so I thought.

In front of us stood a man, all donned in black, with a silver arm. He seemed to have some form of gun, and it was aimed right at us. He shot the device, and I could hear it attach itself underneath the car.

Suddenly the car flipped.

It felt like it was slow motion. I didn't even have time to scream, I just shot my hands out to the roof to make a vibranium ceiling. The car landed, luckily the vibranium I planted there keeping it from crushing both Fury and I.

I felt blood trickle down my forehead though.

Fury glanced up for about two seconds before pulling out some special screwdriver. It lit up in a blue flame and I immediately understood. I retracted a small circle of the cool metal into my palm and Fury cut through the ground.

I dropped in first, landing on my feet.

Fury followed quickly after, and we started making our way outta there.

We ended up in some small, random apartment in D.C. It was very undecorated and seemed almost... abandoned. But Fury, now styling a black arm sling, assured that someone lived here, alright.

I had a hard time believing that.

Then, Nick Fury went to the record player and put it on. It played extra loud, and now I was wondering who this friend was, considering Fury acted so comfortable around his or her apartment.

I walked around the apartment a bit, seeing a basically unused bedroom with an adjoining bathroom. There was a small kitchen, and of course the lounge where I'd started out. I found several magazines near a bookshelf containing barely any books.

This person clearly spent a lot of time outside of their apartment or seemed awfully depressed.

In a flash, I heard a window open slowly.

That must be Fury's friend.

Fury could tell as well and put a finger to his lips. I shut up and waited for the person to reveal himself.

I saw a small bit of a shield. Captain America's shield.

A gasp almost flew out of me, but I kept silent instead. Controlling my emotions would be the best thing for now.

Unfortunately controlling my emotions didn't last for long.

Because before me stood someone I haven't seen in nearly 70 years.

"Steve?"
