I Got You
Chapter 9
ONE YEAR LATER…
"Boys! Be careful around your sister!" Peter shouted for the millionth time.
"Daaaad! She wants to play catch!" Jaden yelled.
"She's two months old, she can't play catch!" Peter huffed.
"Peter, calm down babe. She's going to have to hold her own soon with these three wild ones." I laughed.
"Bella, she's so tiny and delicate. I don't want her hurt." Peter stroked her cheek.
"Peter." I laughed.
He was so overprotective of Anya, I'm surprised she wasn't wrapped in bubble wrap.
"Bella, I've seen the way you fuss over these boys, it's no different with her." He laughed.
"Well the boys are old enough to actually hurt themselves and others, Anya is not." I shook my head at his silliness.
I was snapping pictures of my family, it was my favorite pastime.
Peter was a stay at home dad, having quit the team altogether after Anya birth.
I still had my photography business and Peter came most days and helped out, Anya sleeping peacefully in her little travel crib set up in my office or in her bouncy chair with us in the front room.
Jaden and Jason were happy to call Peter their father and it didn't take Atticus long before I was mom.
We sat and had a long talk about it, making sure he only called me mom because he wanted to, not because he had to.
I'd called Sara when Peter asked about adopting the boys and asked for her blessing.
She quickly gave it and said she was excited to come visit and meet Anya.
"Mom, can we talk?" Atticus asked.
"Of course." I motioned him on the couch.
"Mom, there's this girl. I-I want to ask her out, but she's so out of my league." He sighed.
"Whoa! Out of your league? How is that possible?" I snapped.
"She's the most popular girl in school." He shook his head and I held up my hand.
"Listen to me. Unless she's nice to you, knows your name and is actually a friend, don't even think about it. Girls like that will just use you. They'll go out with you because of who your father is or uncle is. You don't want someone like that, understand?" I asked firmly, but with love and he nodded, kissed my cheek and retreated to his room.
FIVE YEARS LATER
Anya is her daddy's little princess. She does no wrong, ever! Even if she just colored all over the walls.
"Anya, get down off the table now!" I shouted for the fifth time, cursing Peter and his last minute alcohol run.
"Daddy said it was OK! A princess can do whatever she chooses to do." She nodded her head for the finishing touch.
I called her brothers over to get her down while I put the finishing touches on her birthday cake.
My how five years have flown.
I still can't believe it looking back most days on how lucky I was to find Peter.
People thought we moved fast, but once they saw we were truly committed to one another they got over their snide remarks.
And of course once they saw us a family unit, they really understood.
The boys loved Peter more than a child could love anything and Peter loved those boys like they were his own.
Atticus and I had the same relationship, maybe even a little better. He had become a momma's boy. He talked to me about everything and I loved that he did. Peter always got a kick out of us sitting quietly and talking.
And Anya, she had ALL the men wrapped around her finger. Daddy was the tightest.
"If you're not a good listener, I'll call all your friends and there will be no party!" I told her sternly.
"Pfffttttt…. Daddy said…" she started and I'd lost it.
"Anya Renee! Go to your room NOW! I will spank your bottom and it won't be for your birthday!" I snapped.
The boys stopped what they were doing and got her down, Atticus leading her to her room.
The twins sat in the living room and watched cartoons, knowing I was one step away from losing it.
"Baby, I'm home!" Peter came in all smiles until he realized it was crazy silent.
"Um, babe?" Peter asked cautiously.
"Anya is in her room, she's being horrible today. Atticus was calming her down, the twins realizing mom was about to lose her shit ran into the living room and are watching cartoons." I sighed.
"Babe, really she's 5!" Peter patronized me.
"Don't! She needs to learn some boundaries at home. How she doesn't get into trouble at school, I do not know!" I shook my head. "Damn, I need a drink." I sighed.
"I'll pour you one." He started towards the liquor cabinet.
"No, I don't want to be sloshed for the party." I shook my head.
The party was in full swing, adults having a good time, kids having a blast. Silly string coating my lawn along with balloons and bouncy houses.
I was sitting in my chair eating some salad while watching the kids play.
I'd had a great idea to hire the babysitter who watches my kids on date nights and a couple of her friends to keep watch of the kids in their play area, offering them $100 each and a free Senior photo shoot, yeah it was a lot, but money well spent! I didn't have to chase the kids around. Peter grumbled at first, then I asked if he and the guys were going to be chasing them and he gladly handed over the $300.
After the party was over and the kids in bed, Peter and I sat there talking and kissing, being our lovey dovey selves.
"Have a drink babe, you're so tense today." He kissed my neck as he rubbed my shoulders.
"No, I don't think that's a good idea." I whispered.
"What's the matter? I swear I'll start getting on to Anya." He squeezed me tight.
"We're pregnant." I turned in his lap, laughing at his speechless expression.
