OMG, things!

A/N: Hello everyone! I am back, and the chapter gurus have finally granted me permission to post this chapter... JK I'm just keeping up my routine.

Anyway, enjoy the chapter!

Even though I had only gotten around 4 hours of sleep in the night, tossing and turning and tumbling through strange dreams which seemed morel like visions than anything. Eventually, I had snapped my mind out of it, and pulled the heavy silk covers off of me, stepping on the cool tiles towards the door.

Opening the door, I could hear shuffling in the kitchen. It was quiet and calculated shuffling, and I began walking to the kitchen. The shuffling continued, seemingly not noting my silent footsteps edging closer.

When I finally turned to corner to the marble kitchen, I saw... of course it was him, why am I even trying anymore?

It's like you two are practically connected. Just great.

I tried my best to ignore Bucky who had finally come to realise he wasn't the only one in the spacious kitchen. Not even caring anymore, I found the ingredients needed to make breakfast.

He had obviously stuck to my routine as well, and we somehow worked around each other, twisting around one another's presences and awkwardly shuffling away when accidentally in each other's way. It was simple and straightforward, really.

Finally, I spoke up.

"Excited for our mission?"

My voice had been soft, still a bit weak from sleep. Bucky glanced towards me quickly, not stopping in what he was doing. Silence consumed us for a few moments before he finally answered.

"I guess."

I refrained from wincing, although his pained voice didn't make it any easier on me. Just when I try to do small talk, all this bullshit happens. And this is why I don't do small talk.

Gently stirring the eggs in the frying pan I had set up, I pretended not to see Bucky gazing at me out of the corner of my eye.

"So," I finally broke another deafening silence. "Do you know what we're up against?"

He nodded, taking a seat on a barstool. "Bunch of HYDRA guys," he said gruffly. "Just a few strings of intel."

I smirked my trademark smirk again. "Easy."

Bucky seemed to shudder at my smirk, whether it was in disgust or something else I couldn't tell. Either way, my smirk immediately dropped and I loaded the heap of scrambled eggs onto my plate.

"You know," Bucky said in between chews. "You don't have to come."

I raised an eyebrow at him. "Why not?"

He shrugged nonchalantly. "Just thought it'll worsen your nightmares."

I leaned back into my seat. "Says the person which currently looks like they're probably getting less sleep than me in 3 weeks than I will in 4 nights."

It was his turn to raise an eyebrow at me. "Is it that noticeable?"

He seemed clearly worried about Steve noticing. With Steve basically being like a mother hen, especially the past few days, it was likely. A small laugh flowed out of my mouth.

"Unless you look closely, not really."

Suddenly, he leaned towards me, in almost a flirtatious manner. That was definitely the old Bucky Barnes shining through.

"You've been looking closely?"

There was an edge of mischief of his voice, and suddenly butterflies decided to have a flying race in my stomach. What the hell?

"I- well... it's just an... observation."

He let out a low sound which sounded like a hint of a laugh, before leaning back into his seat and finishing his food.

I tried to focus on swallowing my food, pretending that my cheeks felt heated as hell and I'm sure that if I had a mirror now I'd cringe at the stupid blush evolving on my pathetic bony cheeks. Feelings had been so rare once, but now they just appeared like the idiots they are.

Finally finishing off my eggs and putting the plate in the sink, I could see that Bucky was leaning against the counter.

"You know," he said, pointing to my eyes. He seemed to be pointing at my violet eye bags which made my face appear ghostly. "I observe things too."

And with that, he left.

Leaving me the most confused I had been the entire week.

Tony had kindly given me dark tactical gear, where he had gotten my size what something I preferred not to ask him. I really didn't want to know.

Now, my hair had been tucked into a caramel braid, and I was clad all black, a large contrast of my gear from HYDRA. All of that stuff was silver, due to my powers. They thought it only 'accented' my performance. I internally rolled my eyes at that.

Finally snapping out of my daze, I saw that Steve had emerged through my door.

"Hey," he dead breathily. "You ready?"

I nodded, lacing up the final lace on my knee-high leather boots, before stepping out to follow Steve.

Bucky was out as well, wearing clothes that seemed to cover his metal arm. Usually, it would be revealed out to the open, mainly to frighten people, HYDRA said. Now, he looked pretty normal, other than his left hand seeming a little out of place.

Steve shuffled a bit awkwardly, before finally facing me. He was obviously wearing his Captain America suit.

"Uh, Charlotte," he began quickly. "Could you, uh, sorta, do something to Bucky's arm? You know, so they don't know it's him."

I smirked at Steve, my assassin confidence finally seeping back to me, before casually strutting over to Bucky, noting how a ghost of a smirk was on his face.

Then, I grabbed his left hand, noting how he tensed altogether at me touching his metal arm. He seemed awfully ashamed of the silver plating, especially the red star that permanently marked his shoulder.

I let my powers consume my thoughts, gently holding his hand. Soon, it began fading into a skin colour, and within seconds, it looked as if Bucky had never fallen from that train.

I wish.

Steve was gawking at me, clearly impressed.

"That's... amazing."

I winked at him, and then, I dropped Bucky's hand, no matter how comforting it felt there.

In front of the elevator, I stopped to turn around to face them.

"Well then," I said, motioning over to the elevator.

"Let's go."

In case you're curious on what Charlotte looks like when they go on their mission, I have an image of her looking something like this [although you can perceive her however you'd like] :
