A/N: Hello lovelies! SO here we are, another fun chapter! Sorry for posting so late, I have a lot of stuff going on right now!
Either way, enjoy this chapter!
The sharp pain piercing through me impacted me almost immediately. It was a foolish move, but it was out of luck that I didn't get shot in the heart. But, I could feel other places taking in a few bullets.
The gunfire finally stopped, most men confused on how I got there so fast. However, I heard another scream and I almost died of fear. That was Bucky.
Groggily getting to my feet, I breathed a weak sigh of relief on that he wasn't hurt. But the other guards right now were mostly down, with him kicking each and every one of them down without mercy. Fumbling with my thigh holster, I shot the last man there.
Bucky turned to me, his pupils dilated and glazed in shock. Shit. Did I do something wrong?
"Hey," I managed weakly, before falling over. Ow.
"No," I heard him gasp, and within a second he was at my side, laying my head on his lap. "No, no, no."
A few trembling tears escaped my eyes, and began slightly blurring my vision. I felt for where it hurt the most - my stomach - and saw my hand stained in crimson. Well, crap.
"Charlotte," he breathed again. "Charlotte, stay with me."
I almost smiled, the pain considerably numbing. It was so good to see him again, even for such a short time.
Quitter talk, Charlotte.
"Are you - are you hurt?" I whispered, hoping he wasn't.
He gave out a strained laugh, and knelt over me. "I'm fine," he replied. "But you're not."
"Well, at least you're fine," I argued softly.
Something warm hit my cheek. Tear? Blood?
My head felt like it had been hit by a mallet and slammed into concrete. "Ow."
"Come on, Charlotte, stay with me," he mumbled, just so I could hear. Black dots began coursing through my vision, almost blocking the sight of Bucky's beautiful face.
"I'm here," I replied, almost like a deadpan.
My vision began fading again. "No, no, no," I heard him mumble again, and I felt more blood gushing out of me.
Soon, I closed my eyes.
The last things I heard were Bucky's sobs and one sentence that stuck in my brain.
"But I love you..."
Bucky's POV
He had been a fool.
Somehow, the great Winter Soldier had let his guard down, and now he didn't see the stupidest things coming.
Like, maybe, a hailstorm of gunfire.
Or the fact that the one person he cared about so much just jumped in front of them... wait, what?!
He turned, a scream escaping him before he could choke it down. The guards almost flinched at the savage sound tearing through him, and before they knew it, most of them had been under the wrath of him.
He was about to get to the last one when a gunshot echoed, and the last guard fell. He flicked his head around to see Charlotte weakly holding a gun.
Oh my god. No.
"Hey," she began drowsily, then fell to her side.
Shit.
"No," a gasp escaped from him, and emotions flew over his head as he rushed to her. "No, no, no."
Why was this happening? He loved her so much, and she was just dying? This wasn't happening. He wouldn't. He hated all of this. It was all in his head, and he hated it so much.
He gently laid her small head onto his lap, stroking a few strands out of her face.
"Charlotte," he mumbled quickly. "Charlotte, stay with me."
Everything in him was numb. The source of pain was in his chest; to be more specific, his heart. It ached so badly, like his heartstrings were yanking themselves through his ribcage. He was watching his best friend - or, if he could call her that, his love - pass away.
This isn't happening.
She was bleeding now, heavily, and Bucky cringed internally. No matter how many times he's seen this before, this time, it hurts.
"Are you- are you hurt?" She asked softly, and a small, choked laugh escaped Bucky's lips.
"I'm fine," he replied, almost sarcastically. "But you're hurt."
"Well, at least you're fine."
No. No I'm not, he thought, thinking of how much this hurt him right now. He loved her, yet she was dying in his arms.
A tear of his dropped onto her cheek, gently rolling along with hers. He restrained his urge to wipe it away in a caring manner, instead clutching her head.
"Ow," she whimpered softly, and he carefully scanned his grip, hoping he wasn't hurting her in any way.
"Come on Charlotte, stay with me." He was crying, for real, for the first time in what seemed like forever. She couldn't leave. She couldn't-
"I'm here," her slightly sarcastic deadpan drifted through his ears. He almost seemed relieved, but his reality caught up to him.
She began closing her eyes. "No, no, no," he repeated his last string of 'no's', holding her torso a bit tighter. "Steve," he breathed into his headset.
"Onto it," Steve's voice replied, sounding a tad grim. Huh.
Charlotte's eyes closed fully, and Bucky cursed in Russian. She was slipping away from him, and there was nothing he could do about it.
A sob tore through him, and he mumbled one sentence over and over again.
"But I love you..."
The words escaped his lips over and over again, not stopping until Steve burst through the stairway. When he spotted a crying Bucky cradling Charlotte to his chest, he rushed over to them.
"Holy crap, Buck," he breathed, sounding shocked. "What happened?"
"She- she put herself into the line of fire. For me." It still sounded so unbelievable to him. Charlotte, little Charlotte, throwing herself into the line of fire for a killer. It was absolutely gruesome to him.
Steve sighed. "Tony," he spoke into his headset. "We need evac. Charlotte's... hurt."
Bucky almost punched a wall for that. Hurt. Just... hurt?! That's a joke, right? Charlotte was basically bleeding out on Bucky.
Carefully, he began getting to his feet, carrying Charlotte bridal style. She didn't budge, and he was getting more worried than ever.
"Let's go, Buck," Steve said, beckoning to the stairs. "Our work's done."
No it wasn't, Bucky thought in his mind. We still have to save Charlotte.
But he did not say that out loud, yet kept it stowed away in his heart, knowing he'd break his promise if she died.
He hoped that wouldn't be the case.
He loved her.
Well, some Bucky feels to finish of the chapter, why not?
So I take that I'm getting close to finishing this Bucky x O/C story, which means I might consider making a new Bucky x O/C story, considering that currently, he seems to be a pretty fun/angsty character to write.
Either way, follow, favourite and review for a brand-new story and a good ending for this one!
Love you all!
