Now...For the return of Freya!
Chapter Eighty One: Reunions and the Start of a Journey
Freya's POV
I sat huddled up in Mommy's closet. I couldn't let any of my aunts and uncles know I was on the ship. They get mad and send me back to camp. I didn't want to go back to camp. I wanted to see Mommy. Auntie Thalia said Mommy got kidnapped by Auntie Thalia's evil step-mother. I talked to Daddy after Mommy went bye bye. He was really sad and kept crying. I told him not to cry. I don't like it when people cry, especially not Mommy and Daddy. Mommy and Daddy are big and strong. When they cry it means something really bad happened. Daddy stayed with me all night. He and all my big siblings kept giving me hugs and telling me it would be alright the night Daddy came to tell us Mommy was kidnapped.
I could hear yelling outside. It sounded like Annabeth was pleading with someone. I heard Uncle Leo yell that this person didn't have any arms to hit him with. How can a person have no arms?
Nina's POV
I came out of the Senate House standing next to Percy as the Argo II began to descend. I couldn't wait to see all my friends again. I could hear one of Terminus' statues up there yelling at them for bringing the ship inside the Pomerian Line. I could see Jason standing at the front of the ship. His purple cape billowed in the wind.
Bill groaned as he came up to stand beside me. "You realize we have three Praetors now, right?"
I looked over at him. "What's wrong with having three Praetors? Isn't three the magic number?"
"Rome has never had three Praetors," Bill replied. "It's hard enough getting two to agree with each other, but having three, that'll be a nightmare."
"You poor baby," I answered as the first person began to descend the rope ladder. It was Annabeth. I didn't think Annabeth was one of the seven. How come she came along? Next came Leo. Then Lav, followed by Piper. Jason came down last. I sighed. I had been hoping I could say hello to Parvati, but she was here. The five demigods that had travelled on the ship came to stand in front of Percy and Reyna.
"Jason Grace," Reyna said solemnly. "My former colleague. I welcome you home. And these, your friends-"
I'm pretty sure she didn't mean to, but Lav surged forward. Percy moved towards her at the same time. They wrapped their arms around each other, and they kissed. They were in their own little world.I politely looked away.
"God, I never thought-" I heard Percy say. I head a body slam onto the ground. I turned to see that Lavender had judo flipped my brother.
"Hold!" Bill shouted as a bunch of members of the third cohort surged forwards. He was smirking.
"Stand down!" Reyna yelled to the other four cohorts.
Kneeling down, Lav put her knee on Percy's chest.
"If you ever leave me again I swear to all the gods," she growled before Percy started laughing.
"Consider me warned," Percy laughed. "I missed you too." Lav's face lit up and she pulled Percy into a tight hug. Helping him up, she turned to me.
"S'up, Nina," she grinned.
"You have no idea," I smiled back, pulling my friend into a close hug. "Is Vati here?"
"Chiron made her stay behind," Lav whispered back.
I sighed and pulled away. "I missed you."
"I missed you too!" Leo shouted as he ran up to me. His arms wrapped around my waist and he spun me around. "I asked Vati out!"
"What did she say?"
"Come back alive and we'll see," grinned Piper. "Nice to see you, Nina."
"It's been awhile," I grinned.
Jason cleared his throat. "So, yeah...It's good to be back. This is Piper, Annabeth, and Leo. This is Lavender. She normally doesn't judo flip people."
"That's what you think," I murmured.
Lavender glared at me. I grinned back.
"Hey, Lavender," Fred and George shouted. She jumped.
"What are you idiots doing here?" she groaned.
"Didn't you miss us?" Fred asked.
"Nope."
"You sure?" George asked.
"Yes. Hello, Cedric. Hiya, Cho."
"Hey Lavender," Cho and Cedric chorused. Hazel and Frank stepped out of the crowd. They stood on either side of Percy. Lavender stared at them for a second. She took Hazel's hand and lead her over to Frank.
"Now kiss," she said simply before taking Percy's hand. I laughed at Frank and Hazel's blushing faces.
"Come," Reyna said. "Let us eat."
I sat with Reyna, Percy, Leo, Lav, the Weasleys, Cedric, Cho, Neville, Luna, Frank, Hazel, Octavin, Jason, Piper, and Tonks. Sirius was who knows where. "Hey, Chiron didn't make you bring a chaperone?" I asked.
"He did," Leo grinned. "Remus and Coach are on the ship still. Remus said he would make sure Hedge didn't destroy anything."
"That does sound like Gleeson," Percy smiled.
"Sirius is alive," I whispered in Lav's ear.
"What?" she whispered back curiously.
I gestured to a table in the back where Sirius was sitting with a blond girl. "That's Cassie. She's a daughter of Ceres. Sirius and her went to Hogwarts together. I think they used to date."
Lavender gazed at the table where Cassie and Sirius were sitting. "Definitely," she whispered. "I can sense their chemistry. They should be chaperones for us too! I mean, nine hyperactive demigods are a lot for just two people to handle."
"Of course," I smirked back. "Much too tough for a satyr and a wizard. They definitely need some help."
"Agreed," Lavender grinned. We turned back to the others conversation to see Tyson and Ella leaving the table along with Leo and Octavian. I had no idea when Tyson and Ella got there.
"Sirius and Cassie will serve as extra chaperones," I said. I stood up with Lav to go talk to them.
"You said Remus was on the ship?" Tonks asked. Annabeth nodded absentmindedly. "I'll go see him. Octavian can be loads of trouble." Tonks rushed off after Octavian and Leo.
I turned to Lav and she nodded. I could hear Piper chuckling under her breath. I started giggling. "C'mon," I whispered to Lav, grabbing her hand. "Bye, guys." Everyone waved as we went over to talk to Siri and Cassie.
"Hey, guys," I said sitting down. I squeezed my eyes shut. I was developing a really bad headache.
"S'up, lovebirds," Lavender smirked. Sirius blushed along with Cassie. We looked at their intertwined hands on the table. They blushed and pulled them apart. "Will you-" I heard Lavender start to ask.
I dazed out. I tried focusing on the conversation, but it wasn't working. I could still sense everything that was going on, but it was like I was in another world. I was being sucked into a vision, only this wasn't one of my visions given to me by the fates. This was something entirely different.
I was met with the sneering face of a giant as I entered the vision. "Hello, consort of Apollo," he sneered. "I am Otus, bane of Apollo."
The image shifted, like a camera swiveling to a new position during a recording session. A blond man was chained to the wall. He was unconscious by the looks of him. His upper arms had metal bands around them and were chained to the wall. His ankles were tied together, and the man was on his knees.
"Apollo," I gasped.
I ran forwards. I could feel the Earth sticking to my feet.I struggled forward. I could hear Otus and Gaea's laughter. After what felt like an eternity, I made it to my boyfriend. I knelt in front of him. Afraid of what I'd see, I gingerly lifted Apollo's head so it was level with my own. Golden ichor was dripping down the right side of his face. His golden hair was matted with dried ichor. What scared me most was the tinge of red I saw in his blood. That wasn't supposed to be there.
"What did you do to him?" I hissed, flipping to face the hideous giant. A harsh light emanated from his skin. Otus stepped forward.
"Ah, so you've noticed. His immortality is slowly fading away. In six days, Apollo will become mortal. You have six days to save him. Meet me in Rome. You will know where to go. You may not bring any of the other children of the prophecy with you. Your time starts now.
I gasped as I came out of the vision. I could feel the tears running down my cheeks. Before anyone saw, I wiped them away. With my blurry vision cleared, I could see that I was being pulled through a crowd by Sirius. "What's going on?" I asked.
"Weren't you paying attention?" he asked. "The Argo II fired on New Rome."
"What?" I asked again. Sirius ignored me. Cassie was pushing her way through the crowd with Lavender's hand in her own. We quickly caught up with Percy and Annabeth. Overhead, I saw a silver and gold dragon carrying Piper and Jason to the Argo II. Charlie caught my eye. He nodded in my direction and began firing stinging hexes into the crowd. Bill, Fred, George, Luna, Neville, Cho, and Cedric followed Charlie's lead. It gave the rest of us just enough time to climb the ladder up to the ship.
"Nina!" Piper yelled from below deck. "We need your help!"
I quickly ran below deck to where Lav and Piper were. "Jason's head is bleeding," Lav rushed. "Ambrosia won't work fast enough."
I quickly slid out my wand. I jabbed my wand at the bleeding hole in Jason's head. I quickly muttered the healing spell. I felt bad for Jason. Madam Pomfrey had done that enough times on me for me to know how badly getting jabbed by a wand in an open wound felt. Piper hugged me in thanks. I smiled tiredly and excused myself to my room.
When I reached my room, I had to smile. Leo had made the walls a realistic sunrise over the ocean. It was perfect. On the nightstand was a picture I had taken of Apollo and Freya on Freya's birthday. I walked over to the picture and picked it up.
"I'll find you," I whispered to the laughing Apollo. It was a magical portrait, so the occupants were moving. "I'll rescue you. I can't live without you, archer boy."
I looked at Kayla's face. I swear I could almost hear her call out my name. "Mommy!" I spun around. I had definitely heard it that time. "Mommy!" the little voice called again.
My closet door flung itself open. Freya came tumbling out along with a few extra pairs of converse in multiple colors. "Freya?" I whispered to myself. I was positive this must be my imagination. Freya couldn't possibly have been on the ship.
"Mommy!" Freya said again. She ran forward an jumped into my arms. Automatically, my arms wrapped around her small frame to keep her from falling. "I missed you," Freya whimpered into my shirt.
I soothingly rubbed her back. "I missed you too, Sunshine." I couldn't believe she was really here. Suddenly the severity of the danger Freya would be on while onboard this ship sunk in. "What are you doing here?" I whispered hoarsely.
Freya pulled her head back so she was staring me in the eyes. "Uncle Leo said that the ship was going to rescue you and Uncle Percy, Mommy. I missed you, so I came too. I hid in your closet so nobody would find me."
"Oh gods," I groaned. "Freya, it's dangerous for you to be on this ship. You could get hurt."
"But you're here now, silly Mommy," Freya giggled. "You'll keep me safe."
I groaned and plopped down onto my bed. What was I going to do with this child?
At a little after sunset, I took Freya's hand and led her into the Mess Hall. I smiled noticing it was a live action shot of camp. Peleus was sleeping under the Fleece. Percy was staring at his familiar intently. Cassie was sitting at the head of the table. Sirius was standing behind her. "Uncle Siri!" Kayla shouted. She released my hand and ran towards the son of Hermes. Sirius laughed, picked Freya up, and spun her around.
"Hey, baby cakes," he grinned. His grin slipped from his face. "Whose brilliant idea was it to bring a child onto a warship?"
No one answered. They were all staring at Freya in shock.
"But we checked all the rooms," Remus said.
"Apparently not my closet," I pointed out sarcastically.
"She'll stay on the ship while we fight," Hazel said. "Problem solved."
"And if the ship is attacked," Annabeth pointed out. I nodded in agreement. Hazel bit her lip and shrugged.
"We'll figure that out later," Jason said. "Right now we need to figure out our next move."
"We need to be in Rome in six days," Hazel and I said simultaneously.
"You go first," I said.
"My brother, Nico's been captured by twin giants," Hazel said. "They're keeping him in Rome. He only has six days left to live."
"There's a third giant in Rome," I said. "Otus. He's kidnapped Apollo. Somehow he found out how to make him mortal. In six days Apollo will be mortal. In six days, the sun will go out, permanently."
"Daddy's in trouble?" Freya asked. She squirmed out of Sirius' arms and climbed into my lap. She had tears gathering in her eyes.
"Daddy'll be fine," I reassured her. I was well aware of all the eyes on me. "Daddy's very strong."
"Pinky promise?" Freya asked.
"On a stack of pinkies," I smiled, hooking my pinky with my daughter's smaller one.
"So we need to get to Rome in six days," Leo groaned. "We can totally do that."
"Of course we can," Lavender said. "You heard Nina. Lord Apollo is going to be okay. She promised, and Nina doesn't break her promises."
"Exactly," I grinned. I wasn't so sure this time.
"Mommy doesn't lie," Freya agreed.
"We need to stop on Topeka 32," Piper said, jumping into the conversation. "I saw it in my knife."
"We'll be there in a few minutes," Leo said. "I'll start taking us down.
Annabeth, Leo, Gleeson, Remus, Lavender, Freya, and I all stayed up on the ship to fix it while the others went down to talk to Dionysus, or Bacchus, whichever you prefer. By the time we were done, we were done, we were all covered in soot and grease. I coughed dust out of my throat. "Bath time," I smirked. Freya's eyes widened.
"No, Mommy!" she shouted. I spent the next fifteen minutes racing across the ship trying to catch her. Dang, that kid was fast. Finally, I managed to get her in the tub. Freya spent five minutes actually washing herself and the other hour playing with toys I transfigured for her. When she was done, I got her out and wrapped her up in a towel.
I brought her into our room and changed her into pajamas. I got into my own pajamas. There was a knock on the door. "Come in," I called.
Yawning, Percy stepped into my room. "We talked to Mr. D."
"And?" I asked
"He said he'd help us if we proved ourselves to him." I groaned. That was just like Mr. D.
