Broken
Chapter 21
EPOV
As I sit here waiting for Bella to wake up I realized something.
I hadn't thought about my problems because I'd been helping her through all hers and it felt good.
I loved my wife, but she wouldn't let me help her through her final days or any of the struggle for that matter, but here's Bella letting me help her and she's been through some terrible times. She'll never know how grateful I am for letting me help her. I love this woman with all that I have and plan to let her know as soon as possible.
"E-Edward?" I hear her soft beautiful voice.
"I'm right here love. I'll always be right here." I kiss her hand and she sighs with a smile.
"You're not mad?" she asked weakly.
"I'm happy you're OK and that they'll never bother you again. James' dad was killed immediately and James is still in surgery. Even if he makes it out he'll be a lesser man. I'm told there's brain damage and he'll have to undergo a trial if he's got any facilities left. His mom was arrested as well, there's some really bad stuff on tape incriminating them on more than you even knew." I kissed her softly on the lips.
"Wow. I am just happy it's over. We can start trying to heal you know." She smiled at me.
"Oh Bella. I'm already healed. You healed me by letting me in and letting me help you. I just want us to start a life together. Are you up for that? Can you trust me to never, ever hurt you?" I asked.
"Yes, yes I can." She said with confidence.
"Good! I'm having all your stuff from my parents moved and I hope you approve." It was my turn to smile.
"Approve? Of what?" she furrowed her brow.
"Well, a while ago your dad had told me how much you loved Mrs. Cope's house. Her children had to put her into a nursing home and told me they were putting it up for sale. I asked them if I could buy it outright. They agreed and I got a great deal, so I bought it and had everything updated and restored." I squeezed her hand.
"Oh Edward!" she squeezed back. "But I can't stay all by myself. I'm not that good yet, no matter if one's dead and the other on life support." She shook her head.
"That's OK love. I'm having my stuff packed and moved as well. We'll start over together and we'll plan out wedding. That is, if you'll marry me Bella?" I smiled with tears in my eyes.
"Edward!" she gasped and nodded as I slowly slipped on the elegant ring. It was a simple emerald that had been my grandmothers, set by pave diamonds.
"I will make you the happiest woman ever! We'll have lots of little Edwards and Bella's, a few dogs and be the sickening couple everyone dreads being around." I teased.
"OK. Sounds good to me! I'll be the PTO mom everyone dread seeing." She laughed a good hearty laugh and at that point and time, I knew we were going to be OK and our life was going to be great!
