Hey guys. I have some sad news. While I love this story alot, I have decided that I need to abandon it. I'l get more into why at the end, but here's the short version: I am a a point in my life where I want to work on projects that will get me where I want in life, and this isn't it.
I'm ont gonna leave anyone in the dust, so here's the outline I wrote in my notebook over four years ago. You'll notice that I was barely a third into the story, and I was already at like 60 000 words, so imagine the effort I'd need to finish the whole story:
Outline:
Irkens are the inferior species, living a primitive life and Humans are the more advanced species, exploring the universe to their hearts content.
Zim lives on a jungle-like planet where Dib lands one day to explore the unexplored. They meet and learn from each other, and Dib takes an interest in Zim's life and his mind. The planet is very hostile and Zim, despite being way too small, has survived against all odds and helps Dib and the rest of the crew to survive.
Meanwhile, the Vortians are working on creating a "super-species", by creating a PAK to work as a life-support AI that would enhance the abilities of its wearer.
As time passes, Dib realizes that Zim is far more intelligent and curious than Irkens are given credit for. Zim has quickly learned the human alphabet and can almost recreate some of his machinery through reverse engineering.
When Dib hears about the Vortian experiment, he suggests that they put the PAK on Irkens seeing how they seem promising. The Vortians agree and Zim agrees to become a test subject. He goes to Vort with Dib and is filled with wonder at all the technology.
At first the PAK he is given only contains simple mechanics that he doesn't have to concentrate on controlling. It's a success and a team of Vortians is set out to capture more Irkens.
Zim's PAK gets equipped with more stuff as he grows more used to managing the PAK, and he becomes more and more the "super-specie" that the Vortians were aiming to create.
However, as Zim can no longer handle much water due to the machinery fused to his body, the PAK has, on it's own accord, taken a measure to change the components of Zim's body so that his skin starts burning if in contact with water.
Nobody expected this to happen. It's the first sign that maybe they have created something more powerful than what they bargained for.
The next generation of PAK-equipped Irkens are much taller than Zim, and his instincts tell him to feel threatened by their presence. Nevertheless, the experiment goes along as planned. Among them are Purple, Red, Spork and Miyuki, and they all see themselves are far more superior than any other beings on the planet.
The experiment grows quickly after that, from one Irken, to five, to a few hundred. Zim never quite finds himself as home with his fellow Irkens as he does with Dib though, due to his tough life in Irk before any of this happened.
It doesn't take long for disaster to strike. One of the earlier experiments, Miyuki, has been preaching about how her PAK speaks to her, and how they are destined to rule the universe. In a dramatic escape attempt, she and her mate, Spork, steals a ship and travels deep into space to free themselves from the Vortians who generally are viewed as their 'creators'.
A team of Vortians go on a rescue mission, but by the time they find the rogue Irkens, they have died from (the vacuum of space, no food supplies, something else that I never actually decided on).
The incident causes quite a stir on Vort, and awakens a debate on whether it is right to keep all these Irkens on Vort, unwilling science experiments as most of them are. In an attempt to satisfy the opposition and stop something like this to happen again, they give the Irkens a planet (New Irk) of their own to live on, and the Irkens create their own hierarchy and state. Miyuki's and Spork's PAKs are turned into the first control brains. In comparison to Vort's democracy and mostly peaceful ways, the Irkens find themselves with two Tallests that rule over the rest of them, similar to their small communities back on Irk.
Zim stays on Vort with Dib and becomes a scientist. Dib works on his own projects while Zim joins a team of Vortians to built the Massive, a ship designed to defend Vort and New Irk against outside forces.
When the Massive is complete, the Tallests (Red and Purple), move into the ship permanently, and Zim, looking for new challenges, moves to New Irk for military training, but hates it due to being bullied over his lack of height. After a few months of bitterness and constant paranoia, he signs out and moves to the Massive to work on maintenance on the ship and to 'serve his Tallests' although he cares little about Irken society.
He accidentally overhears the Tallests speak about breaking their treaty with Vort and aim for universal conquest, following Miyuki's vision and the mysterious voices they sometimes hear from their PAK as they power down for the night. Zim feels an odd, spooky feeling at the mentions of voices from the PAK, as though he knows what they mean but can't remember, but he has more important things to do.
He hurries to leave the ship and travels towards Vort to warn his friends about the incoming threat. While waiting to arrive, he contacts Dib who's still on Vort to tell him, and Dib freaks out. When he arrives, everyone is arguing about what to do, and are forced to admit that, with the PAKS, Irkens are basically invincible.
Zim hesitantly mentions an idea to create a contagious computer virus that would incapitate the PAK, essentially turning the Irken back into their previous state.
However, they have no time for that before they are attacked, and everyone is forced to flee. During the attack, not only is Zim's friend Sev En kidnapped, the Queen of Vort is killed. Zim and Dib, separated from the rest of the escapees, set their course for the only planet Dib can think of – Earth. From there they both get to work on the virus, and Zim develops an antivirus for himself in the process. He also gets in contact with his few irken friends (Skoodge and his mate Tak) and sends an encrypted warning and information on how to protect themselves, hoping that they will understand
Zim doesn't enjoy earth. The air is polluted and he's constantly itching. He also cannot sleep without nightmares about how he's about to eradicate everyone who's just like him.
After some time they get in contact with Lard Nar, who has started a resistance against the growing Irken empire. He also confirms that Sev En is alive and kept prisoner on Vort, ironically called prisoner 777 by the guards.
They have a somewhat working virus. In theory it should have merely incapitated the PAK, but there's a high chance that it will kill the Irken as well. The universe doesn't have any more time to lose however, so they have to accept it for what it is.
Zim and Dib go to New Irk to release the virus, but get captured before they can escape. They had not plan to be anywhere close when the virus starts acting, but now they have a front view as the PAKs start failing. Zim is nauseous at the sight of chaos all around him. Those who aren't stumbling around disoriented or panicking, are having PAKs fighting to stay in control by releasing waves of hormones into their hosts, making them blindly attack anything that moves.
They escape fairly easily in the following chaos.
Meanwhile Lard Nar has set off to Vort and realeased the virus there as well, and also located and freed the Vortians kept prisoner there. He and Sev En leave the planet and the disoriented Irkens to rejoin with the resistance that has begun attacking the Massive. The plan was to meet up with Zim and Dib and to break into the massive together, but as Zim and Dib haven't arrived yet, they break into the Massive with the virus themselves to find the Tallests.
Meanwhile, Zim his carrying Dib on his PAK legs through a planet of chaos, as more and more Irkens fall unconscious or panic or start spazzing. Just as they reach their ship, the meet Skodge and Tak, who has successfully installed the antivirus Zim sent them, and the four sett of to the massive, finding out the Sev En and Lard Nar are already in there. They go after them and find the Tallests trying to escape with an escape pod. In a surprise attack, they manage to kill the guards and release the virus. Dib also manages to shoot Purple, to Red's shock and despair. Zim attacks Red head on while he is distracted, but he manages to counterattack. They find and Red seems to have the upper hand, even injuring Zim to unconsciousness, but Zim's PAK takes on a defensive and attacks without Zim's prompting, while Dib watches in horror.
It is when Zim wakes up, and in his confusion retracts his PAK legs, that Red takes the moment of advantage to pin Zim down, ready to cut his head off…
When the virus released reaches his PAK. He falls over Zim, spazzing as his PAK fights to stay connected to his brain. Zim panics and Dib manages to shove Red to the side, and they all leave shakily, knowing the virus would do the rest for them.
Epilogue:
After years of studying the code that enabled the PAKs' AI to make its own decision and even manipulate its host, all survivors have gotten their PAKs updated and live a rather peaceful life on the original planet IRK, where they have built a nice city and they have a more democratic way of ruling. With no military obligations and no more talk about creating a 'super species', they can all become whatever they wish to, and many work alongside other aliens, discovering the universe in a way they never had before.
Dib and Zim have just managed to climb onto a large mountain, and they watch over the city while sharing jokes and having a good time, enjoying the present and looking forward to the future.
THE END
That's it for me. Gosh I wish I could have finished it all, but it's been four years and a lot has happened during that time. here's a more in depth explanation lol
So I studied art in high school, and graduated this June. The last few months was all about realizing I had to decide what to do in the future. I've always loved making stories, and that has over the years developed into wanting to make stories with pictures. This past year I've drawn a lot of small original comics
I am now studying computer game development at university, and I've moved farther than I ever thought I would. I wanna work with making concept art or character design, or I wanna do freelance illustrations and make my own comics. I don't know where I'll end up, but I'm very excited nonetheless.
I'll still be writing fanfiction and engaging in my fandoms, but I need to give myself the space to develop my own ideas and projects. I have been thinking about drawing my own webcomic for a while, and if you liked this fanfic, you will def like what I have in store if you're interested!
I'll take everything I learned from working on this into my future projects, but this is goodbye for me, and it is with a heavy heart i add Abandoned to the fic summary, and leave you guys with just an outlined version of what could have been a really long space adventure with my fav alien and human teen.
See you guys somewhere else,
/ReptileRuler
