A/N: Apparently this was the chapter that 2015 me deleted, and I was incredibly cross to have deleted it but never mind.
It's a little longer, enjoy!
Take a Bullet to the Brain
She heard James' warning, and now she was dealing with the consequences of it. Once earthbound, she had intercepted Moriarty's message and he had been furious when it was she who met him not Sherlock as he had planned.
There had been a tussle between angel and demon, but that's nothing new. She'd taken a few nasty hits but she was sat against the stone wall he had thrown her into, breathing hard through the pain when she decided her next move.
"Just kill me James." She grinned up through a broken smile. She leant her head back against the stone and looked the demon in the eye. Mortal they may appear, James Moriarty would never disguise the dead look in his gaze, it was a cold void of a stare and it made Molly want to throw up.
"Ohh Molly…" He was in the singsong mood again, and Molly shook her head wearily.
"You can't find him, can you?" Molly hummed as with an ache in her ribs, she pulled herself upright again. "You can't find Sherlock, can you Adramelech, despite all your best efforts. It's why you've captured me." She taunted. She watched his eyes bulge as she said his true name.
James Moriarty was one of Lucifer's original fallen, a prince or lord of hell, and here was some two bit angel of a lower ranking challenging him to one soul.
"Why does Sherlock Holmes mean so much to you hmm, James?" She mocked him and watched his fingers twitch.
"Who knew you would be the key to the moron?" James hissed back, dodging her question.
"He must have something, or know something that's important to your hellish cause." She tapped a finger on her lips, making a show of her own deductions. James' growl had her turn to stare at him instead of pushing him further.
"I didn't think Sherlock would be as stupid as return the sentiments of a wingless angel, and yet he was. Now I know his weak spot." Molly watched him raise the gun once more.
"Poor little incubus, can't even find a single mortal." She goaded. James' position in the hellish court was nothing so lowly, but it was the insult needed for the old demon to pull the trigger on her.
"Where. Is. He." James all but screamed now.
"How the mighty have fallen." She sneered, emphasising his disgraces. "You cannot find a mortal; one you crave so badly you turn to an angel for help. Honestly Adramelech, will they even talk to you anymore, knowing you had to go to not only an angel but one without wings." She grinned up at him maddeningly. The brute had dislocated her shoulder and standing was making her body scream with pain but the furious look in his eye told her his rage would end her soon.
Molly knew that Sherlock was missing in the aftermath of the Magnussen scandal. John, Mary and baby Rosie had been squirrelled away by Mycroft, and it was only Mycroft that knew of their location. James had made the assumption of thinking that the information could be tempted out of Molly. He was confident that Molly was the key to his Next Big Plan.
It was a shame his temper got the better of him.
"Such a creature like yourself here, bound to the mortal plane for a man that he cannot find, how maddening that a mortal can best you. A mortal and a sub-par angel…" Her next goad was cut off by the bullet through her brain.
James looked down at the slumped body before him and scowled at his own mistake. He would never learn and now he just lost his ultimate bargaining chip. Damnation.
"I don't want to do this anymore." Molly whined as she passed through the haze to the next life waiting for her. She felt entitled to the whinge as she felt the aches and pains heal again.
"Not long." The voice was gruff, and one Molly vaguely recognised.
"It hurts." She felt the scramble of her mind as she bullet was spit out of from her skull and the world was turning grey, indicating that she was almost through to the next form.
"You are so close." The hand on her shoulder was surprisingly strong, and Molly grit her teeth in determination for her next life.
A/N: Adramelech was a guess, and is considered a demon, though he has roots in other religions as well. He features in Paradise Lost and an 18th century demonology text. He was considered to be the "President of the Senate of Demons", the "Chancellor of Hell" and "in charge of Satan's wardrobe" and damn I thought it fit my idea of the snappy dressed, OCD manic James Moriarty.
