disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, just Arabella and her story. Hope you all like it!
The Ministry Officials
Arabella remained with Hermione the whole night as Madam Pomfrey chased Harry and Ron out of the hospital wing. But they came back the next morning with some breakfast in between napkins. Hermione was still looking the same and her mood was still miserable as she was still the same.
"Madam Pomfrey will change you back soon enough," said Ron, reassuringly. "And nobody's back yet, so no one's teasing you." He then smiled at her. "I've wrote to Dad this morning to tell him about Malfoy's secret chamber under their drawing room. It wasn't all for nothing. Malfoy's father will surely get it soon."
"Something good came out of this," said Harry as Hermione's tail brushed against his glasses.
"Oh! Sorry, Harry," said Hermione, pulling her tail closer to her and gripping it tightly.
"It's all right," said Harry, readjusting his glasses.
"So, it's not Malfoy," said Hermione.
"I was so sure he was," said Ron.
"And I was so sure he wasn't," said Arabella, gloating.
Madam Pomfrey then came sweeping over and gave Hermione a dose of medicine. Hermione shuddered and her tail shook as well.
"Disgusting," she whispered.
Arabella gave her a look of pity before Madam Pomfrey turned to her. "Miss Black, Professor McGonagall is here to see you."
Arabella's face fell at her words and she nodded, looking at the others. "I'll see you lot later, then."
"Good luck," whispered Hermione as Harry and Ron did the same.
Arabella then went to the entrance door to the hospital wing and met Professor McGonagall there.
"Ready, Miss Black?" McGonagall asked. Arabella nodded and they began to walk to her office. "There is nothing to be scared or anxious about. Just answer their questions to the best of your ability and everything will work itself out in the end. Now, I will be in the room when they question you under the Headmaster's wishes. I will only be there as a support and make sure they do not question you too harshly. You are still a child after all."
Arabella nodded as they entered McGonagall's office. There were three wizards already there with silver badges pinned to their black robes.
"Miss Black, this is Madam Amelia Bones," said McGonagall, "Mister Clarence Anges and Mister Theodore Guthrie."
Amelia Bones had a square jaw with grey hair and she looked serious. Her pin read Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. She was clearly in charge of everything and everyone and she was certainly not someone to cross with her think mouth and sharp eyes. She reminded Arabella strongly of McGonagall.
Clarence Anges was short with a bald head and round face. His badge read Department of Children and Family Services and he gave Arabella a tight smile. There was something uneasy about the man as he could barely look Arabella in the eye.
Theodore Guthrie had a hard face, thick black hair with bits of grey in it. His jaw was locked and his dark eyes bore into Arabella. His badge read Department of the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures with Beast Division underneath.
"Nice to meet you all," said Arabella, tense.
"Very well," said Theodore Guthrie.
They all took a seat at McGonagall's desk. Amelia Bones was sitting in the middle of Clarence Anges and Theodore Guthrie. They all took out notepads and different pieces of parchment and ink. It was strange to have them all staring at her, examining her as though she was some sort of external creature. Arabella sat in front of them as McGonagall took a seat to the side, watching the three adults carefully with narrowed eyes.
"Are you ready?" Amelia Bones asked Arabella.
Arabella nodded as Theodore Guthrie's quill stood up right by itself.
"Let us begin. Social Investigation of the twenty-sixth of December," said Guthrie and his quill began to write everything down, "of Arabella Kassandra Black, resident at a small cottage just outside of Dufftown. Inquirers: Amelia Susan Bones, Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, Clarence Lester Anges of the Department of Children and Family Services, and Theodore Quentin Guthrie of the Beast Division of the Department of Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. Witness to this investigation: Minerva Margaret McGonagall."
"Please state your full name for the record," said Anges gently.
"Arabella Kassandra Black."
"And your birthday?"
"February twenty-fifth, 1980."
"And you live with your godfather," Anges looked down at his notes, "Remus John Lupin, just outside of Dufftown, correct?"
"Yes."
"And your blood-status?"
"Half-blood."
"And when were you adopted by Mr. Lupin?"
"When I was around three or four," said Arabella, shrugging. "It's been a long time since it was all finalized."
Anges and Bones were both writing something down while Guthrie seized her up, staring at her so that she shifted in her seat.
"And what were the circumstances that led to Mr. Lupin adopting you?" asked Guthrie.
"Theodore," interrupted Amelia Bones as Arabella glanced at McGonagall, whose lips thinned even more, "she's twelve years old and we already have the case file and her own memory in that matter." She then looked at Arabella. "You do not need to answer that question, Miss Black."
Guthrie was not satisfied. "I suggest we question the girl about that night, see if her memory is intact. It will be the only way to know if she will give us truthful answers and to make sure her mind is not playing tricks with her when we further question her about the wer – about Remus and their relationship."
Arabella licked her lips and said, "I'll – I'll answer," before Bones could say anything else. Best to get it over with, honestly.
Guthrie's lips quirked up in a triumphed smile. "In full detail, please, Miss Black."
"Um, well, Bellatrix, Rodolphus, Rabastan Lestrange and Barty Crouch Jr. broke into my house on August, um, August 11, 1983. Before that I went to the carnival with Remus Lupin and I was really tired by bedtime. I heard screaming from below and… and I went to go see what it was. It sounded as though someone was screaming in pain, I thought my mum was watching a movie. I was – um – I was sitting on the stairs and saw my mother tied up to a chair with blood on her face and those – those people standing all around her, torturing her and that's when Bellatrix saw me."
Her hands were shaking almost uncontrollably.
"She called me 'poppet' and dragged me over to see my mum and – and – and she began to torture me as well. It felt as though my whole body was on fire and someone was stabbing me at the same time and Bellatrix took me to the other room…. She cut up my arms as the others continued to torture my mother. I cried for her and for Remus and for –"
She stopped short of herself. She couldn't tell them she was screaming for Sirius as well. She then said, "– I just wanted it all to stop. Bellatrix murdered my mum and was about to do the same to me when Mad-Eye Moody came through the doors –"
"That's enough," said Guthrie.
Arabella's hands were shaking terribly, her voice was cracking and she was one more sentence from breaking down in front of four adults. She then placed her hands on the wooden table to steady them. McGonagall got up from her chair and handed her a clothed handkerchief. That's when Arabella realize she was crying. She thanked McGonagall quietly and rubbed her cheeks.
Bones gave Guthrie a look of utter disgust and said, "Let us move on, shall we?"
Anges cleared his throat and said, "Yes, well, thank you for that, Miss Black. Now, can you tell us about the day or the moment in which you found out about Remus Lupin's condition?"
Arabella nodded and composed herself quickly. "I was around six or seven – probably seven – and I went over to the Tonks's house as per usual. I always slept over during full moons and spent time with Nymphadora, but, um, this time I did not understand why I had to go. See, Nymphadora went off to Hogwarts that year and I didn't understand why I still had to so since she wasn't there anymore. After a night or so of badgering, he told me the truth."
"Remus sent you out of the house during full moons?" asked Anges.
"Yes."
"And does he still do that when you go home for holidays?"
"Yes. He always sends me to the Tonks or the Weasleys."
"Arthur Weasley?"
"Yes," said Arabella, nodding. "I'm friends with his son, Ron, and his other kids as well."
"How did finding out make you feel?" asked Bones. "Did it make you fell scared or angry?"
"I wasn't really scared," said Arabella, shrugging. "I didn't really understand what was really going on to be honest. I think I was mostly scared of something happening to him. I, um, I didn't want him to get hurt or anything, you know? I didn't understand what being a werewolf truly meant, but once I found out more about werewolves and the pain of transforming, that's all I could focus on. Remus's pain and I just… he doesn't deserve that sort of pain."
She licked and bite her lips, hoping that they would understand what she meant, where she was coming from, and realize how much Remus Lupin meant to her.
"And as you grew up, were you ever scared for your life?" asked Anges.
Arabella shook her head. "Not really. Growing up my worry for him increased. I never wanted to see him in pain."
"You were never scared for your own life?" asked Anges.
"No," said Arabella. "No reason to be, honestly."
Bones looked impressed. "Interesting. You are what now? Twelve? And seven when you found out? And you were never scared of such a creature that could potentially harm, kill you or bite you. No, you saw beyond that. You saw your godfather and you were only scared for him. That kind of compassion for such a creature… it's certainly extraordinary, Miss Black." She then looked at McGonagall. "You've got an interesting pupil here, Minerva."
But Guthrie did not seem impressed.
"Do you know, Miss Black, that werewolves lose its human sense of right and wrong in its wolf form? This then transfers into their human form, making them dangerous after years and years of transformations. Werewolves can be extremely dangerous in their human form as well. Do you know this, Miss Black?"
"I know Fenrir Greyback is a dangerous man no matter in what form he's in," said Arabella. She frowned at Guthrie. "But Remus Lupin is not. The only time I can even remember him yelling at me is when I threw cake at Ted, but that was years ago. I was a child."
"Are you saying that Remus Lupin never raises his voice at you?"
"No," said Arabella, shaking her head. "He treats me with respect and kindness and if I do something that is wrong, he sits me down and talks to me like an adult and explains to me why it was wrong. He taught me the difference between right and wrong from an early age, and I grew up quickly."
"Grew up quickly," repeated Bones. "Explain please."
"Well, there was the incident with the Death Eaters," said Arabella, "and, well, it's hard making friends with my last name in a wizarding village. No parent wants their child to be friends with Sirius Black's daughter. With my mum's death, the torture, being Sirius Black's daughter and Remus's condition, it was hard to be a child after all of that. But that doesn't mean Remus doesn't try to make me feel like a child, you know? He tried his best to make sure that my childhood wasn't just based around that memory. He takes me to the beach whenever he cans and he listens to whatever I have to say and never dismissed me or –"
"Yes, yes, we get it, Miss Black," said Guthrie dismissively. "So Remus Lupin has never been aggressive or violent towards you?"
"Never," said Arabella.
"Have you ever wished to live with actual relatives?" asked Guthrie. "The Tonks perhaps or the Malfoys? Your grandmother only died when you were around five. Did you ever wish to live with her?"
"No," said Arabella.
"Did you ever visit her?"
"Once and that was more than enough. We did not see eye to eye on certain matters, such as blood-status or the rights of Muggle-borns."
"Did you ever wish to live with the Tonks or Malfoys? They are your blood family, after all."
"No," said Arabella. "I only ever wished to live with Remus. He was more than enough for me."
"Not even the Tonks?" persisted Guthrie. "You are close to them, are you not?"
"I am," said Arabella, nodding. "But like I said, Remus is more than enough for me."
"Has Remus ever taken you to visit Sirius Black in Azkaban?" asked Anges. "With certain circumstances, such as children and parents, you are allowed to visit your father under Ministry surveillance."
"There is no need to go there."
Anges looked at the others. "But you have never met your father before. You could visit him once and this is a special circumstance that the Ministry will possible allow."
"Like I said, there is no need to go to Azkaban," said Arabella definitely.
Amelia Bones quipped her eyebrow. "You have been getting Sirius Black's gifts, have you not?"
Professor McGonagall finally spoke. "Gifts? What gifts? Sirius Black has been sending you gifts?" She looked between Amelia Bones and Arabella, shocked.
"Pictures, Minerva," said Bones. "Completely harmless gifts from a father to his daughter."
Arabella pursed her lips and her nose twitched. "Can I say something, please?"
Anges looked at the others and Amelia Bones nodded, gesturing for her to continue.
Arabella licked her lips and fiddled with her thumbs. She leaned forward in her seat and said, "There is no need for me to go to Azkaban to see Sirius Black because, well…." She sighed and thought about her next couple words carefully. "Remus Lupin is my… he's my godfather, mother and father all wrapped up in one person. He's my family and he means more to me than anybody else, sometimes even myself. I don't care that he's a werewolf, I love him in spite of that – no, actually, I change my mind – I love him more because of that."
Guthrie scoffed. "You love a werewolf? A vile, vicious creature?"
"Yes," said Arabella, sitting up more now. "Name another werewolf that would take in their best friend's daughter, take care of her, raise her, protect her and love her with all the prejudice against them, especially now with you slandering his name? He did the best he could with the best he had. Every day he made sure that I was loved and cared for, that I had a roof over my head and never went to bed hungry."
She then looked Guthrie straight in his dark eyes and said, "I am not afraid of him. I never have and I never will be. I love him and he's all I've really got." She hesitated before continuing, "If – if you take him away from me, I don't think I will be able to survive, not this time. I won't stand a chance without him."
Guthrie flared his nose as Anges's quill scratched feverishly against his parchment.
"I think we have enough," said Amelia Bones, finishing up her note. "Thank you for your time, Miss Black. We shall be having a word with the Tonks as well as Alastor Moody in a couple days' time and I shall be sending you and Remus separate letters with the results of this investigation. Good day, Miss Black, and thank you for allowing us to use your office, Minerva."
The three wizards packed up their belongings and stepped into McGonagall's fireplace, disappearing into the green fire. Anges was the first one to leave with a small smile towards Arabella. Theodore Guthrie was next.
He stopped and turned to look at Arabella. "I do not believe you truly understand the dangers of living with Lupin. You are dangerously arrogant if you truly believe that Lupin is some sort of saint. You talk about feelings of compassion and love for him because he took you in, but underneath all that, he is still a werewolf that will one day attack you and the others around your house? Have you thought of their safety, Miss Black, or do you just not care about them?"
"That is enough, Theodore!" snapped Amelia Bones. "Not another word. We shall be discussing this back at the Ministry, do I make myself clear?"
Guthrie answered by disappearing through the fire without another word. Amelia Bones shook her head and turned towards Arabella. "Have you given thought to any career options, Miss Black? You are twelve, but your future is approaching quite rapidly."
Arabella gave a small shrug. "Well, I haven't given the thought much stock lately, but I was thinking of becoming an Auror one day. I don't really know, though."
"Your mother's influence?"
"Yes," said Arabella, "and Mad-Eye's. Listening to him speak about his old missions, it's quite inspiring."
Amelia Bones gave her a small smile. "I used to know your mother before that unfortunate incident. She worked in the Auror Department with Alastor and she was certainly a bright witch with a certain conviction that was quite fearsome, I must say. Even if you become half the woman she was, I dare say you could give most of the Aurors right now a run for their money."
Arabella blushed at the compliment and returned the smile. "Thank you, Madam Bones."
Amelia Bones nodded. "If you still wish to pursue the career option of becoming an Auror by the end of your fifth year, write to me. I can see if you could possibly intern for the Auror Department the summer before your sixth. No promises, of course, nothing is ever certain, but there is something quite interesting about you, Miss Black." Her clear blue eyes looked Arabella up and down. "The Department of Magical Law Enforcement will either make or break you, Arabella Black, and it will be interesting to see the results. Have a good day, Miss Black. You shall be hearing from me soon."
She was gone and it was all over. Arabella relaxed against the chair and closed her eyes.
"I shall be back, Miss Black," said McGonagall, opening the office door. "I will inform the Headmaster that the meeting is over."
Arabella nodded as McGonagall left her office. Her mind was racing with what had been discussed and wondered if she did everything she could have to make sure she stayed with Remus. It seemed as though Amelia Bones was on her side and Anges smiled at her. It was Theodore Guthrie that worried her. He seemed hell-bent on making Remus out to be some sort of monster.
Within minutes, the door of the office opened once more and McGonagall was not alone. Dumbledore and Remus Lupin followed her inside.
"Moony," said Arabella, getting up quickly. "What – what are you doing here?"
Remus went to her and squeezed her shoulder. "I couldn't stand being away knowing that Ministry Officials were coming here to interrogate you."
"But what about your job?"
"They gave me three days off, everything's fine," said Remus. "Don't worry about that. How was it? They weren't too harsh on you, were they?"
"Amelia Bones and Anges weren't too bad," said Arabella. "But Theodore Guthrie, well, he didn't seem to like you."
Remus sighed and looked at Dumbledore. "Yes, well, Mr. Guthrie never seemed to like me. I am supposed to report to him every month in the Beast Division and he's supposed to be my reference if I am ever to apply for a position in the wizarding world."
"That's why you mostly get Muggle's job," stated Arabella, realization dawning on her.
"Yes," said Remus, sighing. "He's also been working with Dolores Umbridge on the Anti-Werewolf Legislation."
"Wait, what?" asked Arabella, shaking her head. That was certainly a shock to head. "What are you talking about? Who's Dolores Umbridge?"
"Dolores Umbridge is a Ministry official," said Dumbledore, speaking at last. "She currently serves as Senior Undersecretary to Cornelius Fudge, and she's been working on having an Anti-Werewolf Legislation." He looked at Remus briefly before saying, "If this legislation passes, it will make it much harder for Remus and other werewolves to find employment in the wizarding community."
"But…. But why?" Arabella asked Remus. "What does she have against you?"
"Dolores has a certain amount of hatred for those she considers 'half-breeds'," it was Dumbledore who answered her. "But this legislation has not been passed yet and there is still time to fight it."
"It's pointless," snapped Remus. He immediately looked ashamed. "It's not as though Fudge is a huge supporter in werewolves and with Umbridge and Guthrie, it will pass and soon."
"There is still time to fight this, Remus," implored McGonagall. "You must be optimistic in the outcome. There is no reason for the Ministry to take Miss Black away from you and the legislation is still a long way from being official. There is still time."
Remus shook his head. "It will be made official soon and I won't be able to get a proper wizarding job anymore and soon enough they'll add that any werewolf cannot have any children under their care and take Arabella way."
Arabella could tell that his mind was racing and thinking of all the worst possible outcomes. He always did that. He looked into his future all saw all the bad possible outcomes instead of thinking about the good he always deserved.
"Remus, you are too hard on yourself," said Dumbledore and Arabella nodded. "There is still time to fight the legislation. It will have to be approved in front of the Wizengamot and there is no reason for the Ministry to take Arabella away from you. Look at her, Remus," he gestured to Arabella. "Does she look unhappy to you? Does she look like she's been neglected or in danger because of you?"
Remus looked up at Arabella before fixing his eyes on the ground. He then said quietly, "I can't lose her, Albus."
"And you won't," insisted McGonagall. "Honestly, Remus, you're being rather harsh on yourself. You are no more dangerous to Arabella than dust on socks. Now, you still have one more day off and do you really want to spend it arguing with your old professors, or do you want to head down to The Three Broomsticks for a warm dinner with Arabella?"
Remus sighed and gave McGonagall a small smile. "Anything you say, professor. Shall we?" he asked Arabella.
McGonagall gave Remus a tight smile. "I shall inform Potter and Weasley that you shall not be joining them for dinner, Miss Black."
Arabella nodded. "Thank you, professor. Um, can I have a word with you, Professor Dumbledore?"
Remus and McGonagall looked at Dumbledore, who said, "Very well, Arabella."
Remus and McGonagall left the office and Arabella was all alone with the Headmaster. Once the door clicked shut, Arabella said, "Is there something I can do to help fight the legislation?"
Dumbledore blinked at her and said, gravely, "I'm afraid not, Arabella. This matter is now in the hands of Ministry officials. Even if there was something you could do, they will not listen to you, unfortunately. I am sorry."
"Is it because I'm twelve or because of my last name?"
"Most likely both," said Dumbledore. "The best I can advise you is to hope for the best and to support Remus during this time. I don't know when the legislation will pass, but when it does, Remus will need your support more than ever."
Arabella was taken back. "You said 'when.' You think this legislation is definitely going to pass."
Dumbledore sighed and said, "Remus is partially right on his accounts. Dolores Umbridge and Theodore Guthrie are very influential in the Ministry. Dolores is very close to the Minister and Guthrie's family has been working for the Beast Division for many years. He is highly respected and has been fighting against werewolves for quite some time now. You must also take into account the centuries of prejudice werewolves have faced, Fenrir Greyback's rather proud display of who he is, and the attacks people have faced from werewolves during the First Wizarding War. The Ministry has always feared werewolves and they don't see them the way you see Remus. They don't have any compassion for them whatsoever."
Arabella's face fell and Dumbledore added, "It will be a tough time for Remus and I must implore you to support him. There will be a backlash from both the wizarding community and the werewolf community. More people will be weary of werewolves, wanting to round them up, and werewolves in turn will want to retaliate. For those who know about Remus's condition, they will fear him. You must support him, Arabella."
Arabella nodded, feeling her energy draining from her body already. She thanked Dumbledore hastily and left McGonagall's office. Remus was waiting patiently outside the door and he gave her a small smile.
"Professor McGonagall told me something about you."
"Yeah?"
"She told me that I should be proud of you," said Remus. "That the way you stood up for me was almost admirable, and coming from Minerva, that is quite a compliment."
Arabella nodded and was silent as they walked through the snow down to Hogsmeade. The snow was thick and it was falling lightly on them. The sky was starting to turn dark and the stars were dimly lit. The Three Broomsticks was open and she could see many people inside. They found an empty table in the corner and Arabella watched the crowd as Remus went to the bar to order some food.
She could tell that the people there were lonely during Christmas. People at the bar were loud and drunk while there was someone a couple tables over bent over drooling on the table. A couple people were crying to themselves and Arabella saw a man singing to himself softly.
Remus returned with a glass of hot butterbeer for her and cider for him. Taking a drink, the warmness filled her up and her nose cleared. She cradled the drink in her hands and examined Remus closely without Dumbledore or McGonagall watching her. He looked tired and there was stubbles on his face. His hair was falling on his forehead and he seemed thinner. The new jacket she got him for Christmas was hanging loosely on his body.
"The jacket looks nice on you," commented Arabella. "Got it for a deal, you know? Gave the other one to Nymph."
Remus nodded and then said, "How was the meeting? What questions did they ask you?"
Arabella hesitated for a moment before saying, "Just… mostly what it was like living with you and whether or not you were treating me all right, and if I ever wanted to live with Andy or the Malfoys or even Walburga. It was quite horrible to see Mr. Guthrie's distaste of you. I don't like the man."
Remus's jaw was locked. "He's like most people with his prejudice against werewolves. They think that we are mindless creatures and Fenrir Greyback does not help when he shameless promotes who he is."
"Amelia Bones seemed to be on my side," said Arabella. "Or maybe it was just for today or something, I don't know. But she did seem to like me and told me to contact her in the future if I ever want to intern at the Auror Department."
Remus's eyes brightened as a woman came to their table with their food.
The woman then smiled at Remus and said, "Good to see you again, Remus."
"You too, Madam Rosmerta," said Remus. When Madam Rosmerta left, he said, "That's fantastic, Arabella! Did she anything else?"
"That if I turned out to be half of who Mum used to be, I would be giving Aurors a run for their money, or something along those lines, and that she liked my level of compassion. Something like that. But she did say that I could intern in the Ministry in the future if I contacted her. At least before my sixth year."
"Fantastic!" repeated Remus. "Maybe we can do it sooner. It won't hurt to do it before your fourth or fifth year. Never hurts to start making an impression when you're young. We could ask Alastor to take you to the Ministry this summer and maybe you can somehow dump into Amelia Bones and…."
They continued to talk about Arabella's future and she could see him become happier at the thought of Arabella's possible future. Though the conversation about her future wasn't her favourite and it did make her feel uncomfortable with so much pressure to be better than her parents, she didn't mind it this time, as long as Remus's mind was far away from the thought of that legislation.
Remus managed to eat his small dish and some of Arabella's. She dumped some of her beans and chicken onto his plate. He looked as though he wasn't taking care of himself, but now, seeing Remus eat healthy warmed her heart and by the end of their meal, he was stuffed and was on his second glass of cider. Once they had paid for the meal, they made their way back up towards Hogwarts. It was pitch black outside and the castle looked beautiful with lit windows.
"Amazing, isn't it?" whispered Remus, looking up at Hogwarts. "I always loved Hogwarts this time around. The castle was extra warm and the food was always delicious, especially when there weren't many people to share it with."
His face relaxed and it seemed as though he was once again a boy looking up at Hogwarts. They reached the grand doors and McGonagall was already there, waiting for her patiently.
"This is goodbye, then," said Arabella.
"For now," replied Remus. "I'll be there to pick you up at King's Cross."
Arabella nodded and wrapped her arms around his waist. She buried her face into his robes, taking in the smell of the woods.
"I miss you, Moony," she mumbled.
"I miss you too," he said, gently stroking her hair.
He then kissed the top of her head and she let go of him.
"They can't take me away from you," she replied.
"They won't," he said absolutely. "I promise you, they will not take you away. They'll have to get through me, Ted and Andy, and you know how scary she can be."
Arabella snorted and smiled. "Yeah… I love you, Moony. I'll see you soon, yeah?"
"I'll be at the station. Take care of yourself. Don't get into too much trouble."
"No promises."
Arabella watched as Remus walked off the ground towards Hogsmeade. She stood there until his little figure disappeared and then turned toward McGonagall and went up to the Gryffindor Tower for bed. Harry and Ron were in the common room, looking extremely tired and she sent them up to bed, promising to tell them what happened in the morning.
She slept uneasy that night, her mind racing from her interrogation and about the legislation. She thought of Theodore Guthrie, sneering down at Remus, and Dolores Umbridge, a faceless woman that was already a horrible woman in her mind. They knew nothing of who Remus truly is. They had no right to do such a thing. Horrible people like them were always found in positions of power while people like Remus, wondering people that always deserved better, were left squandering and always searching for a job.
Arabella turned over and punched her pillow. It was maddening and sickening to think about.
Thank you all for reading! **Spoilers in case you haven't read the original work**
So this chapter wasn't in the original story but I had to add it in to strengthen Arabella and Remus's relationship with each other and also introducing the Anti-Werewolf Legislation to Arabella.
With Arabella being sort of dismessive of Remus's condition, it just comes from years of living with him and seeing him as this sort of father/mother/godfather figure that always took care of her no matter what, and learning about the condition really doesn't change her mind about who he is, it actually sort of strengths it. I mean, Remus has to find odd jobs to do and changes frequently, and he goes through much prejudice when it comes to his condition, but he still takes her in and adopts her and she admires and loves him even more because of this.
And with Amelia Bones, this will be sort of Arabella's introduction into the Ministry and the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, and it will tie in with the fifth book and the last book.
Please, tell me what you guys think! If it was good chapter overall or good new chapter to be added to the story.
