41. Chapter 41

She was tired, so very tired, physically, mentally, and most of all emotionally. And standing here in the shrine court yard being yelled at, being insulted and degraded because Kikyou would never have left, Kikyowould never shirked in her duties, was leaving her feeling worse and she could feel her ever fraying nerves unraveling faster.

"InuYasha my duties in the past are far from the only duties I have."She tried one last time at the calm approach.

"Your duties in the past should be the only ones that matter! Hell if it wasn't for you there wouldn't be any problems in the first place!" She flinched as the words hit her like a physical blow but InuYasha was on a roll and wasn't about to stop on account of her feelings. "You come back here to play house with your family while Naraku is out there gathering more and more shards and slaughtering more people, Kikyou would have never been so fucking selfish!"

With each verbal blow she felt herself deflate more and more."Look InuYasha I'll be back as soon as I can right now there's an emergency and I'm needed here."

"Emergency? You call fucking some guy an emergency!?" His words knocked the wind from her more effectively than a punch from the half demon would have. "Yeah that's right bitch I can smell him in your room and his stench is all over you!"

For the first time since InuYasha had clambered his way from the past Kagome felt anger take hold." Sit! How dare you! How dare you! I wasn't the one leaving the village last night without a word, I wasn't the one leaving my companions unprotected to rendezvous with a corpse! At least I woke Miroku up to let him know I had to leave! So before you go accusing me maybe you should look at yourself!" She could feel her rage building like an adrenaline rush, and she grabbed, held tight ready to fight the half demon if it came to that, as it so often did.

Pulling himself from the ground he made to retort but something in the doorway made him stop and take a protective stance between her and the house. Turning her gaze to where he was looking she saw who he was growling at. "Shinobu!"
