Sighed I checked her tempter, glad that she didn't squirm as much once she was asleep. Finally when the machine beeped I glanced at it and sighed in relief, it had come down a lot though it was still a bit higher than normal. I was even more relieved when she had ate half a bowl of oatmeal—though she complained about it having no taste—and two popsicles.
After switching off the TV I walked over to the phone and called Setsuna; after all she was a nurse and would know what to do.
After a brief conversation I managed to tell her enough to do something right.
"When Michiru gets home after school have her bring Hotaru to the office." Setsuna stated, earning a sigh from me.
"Okay Mom but she hates doctors." I replied with a sigh, earning a chuckle.
"I'll be sure to be the one who checks her…Don't worry. Perhaps knowing who it is will make it less scary on her." Mom answered.
"You're right and it's worth a try." I retorted before adding "Thanks mom…." With that I hung up and turned my attention back toward the couch only to find the young girl sitting up and rubbing her eyes.
"Feel better?" I asked, earning a light nod
"Little bit…..my throat still hurts." She answered me softly in a voice that made my heart want to melt.
"I know firefly. But if you can hold on for a little while until your momma come's home we'll take you to the doctor." I stated softly, letting her nestle herself against my chest.
By the time that Michiru had gotten home Hotaru was feeling a lot better but we still took the girl to the clinic. She actually didn't fuss too much about it though, which was what surprised me. However when we were called into the back she began to grow anxious.
"Come here and sit with one of us." I stated, earning a mere nod before she came over and sat down on Michiru's lap.
"It'll be okay princess." The aqua haired girl whispered to the nervous girl.
Neither of us heard the door open as Setsuna walked in, smiling a bit as she stated
"She's just nervous."
"Do you need her to sit on the bed?" Michiru asked, though Setsuna only shook her head.
"No…it may be best for her to sit on your lap since she's edgy." Setsuna answered.
The first thing that Mom done was a throat culture, earning a gag from my makeshift 'daughter'.
"I know…It's terrible." Setsuna stated, earning a light smile from the girl.
The next thing that Mom had to do was draw some blood; her expression was sympathetic as she knelt down beside of Michiru's chair.
"This may sting sweetheart…But I need you to be brave and not jerk away." She stated, earning a nod.
"Hime-chan hold my hand okay? I don't care how hard you squeeze either." I instructed, taking her hand into my own.
Of course the prick caused her to cry—though not a lot—however she didn't try to move away.
"Good girl…We're done. I just need to get these tested." Setsuna stated gently, ruffling Hotaru's hair.
"You're so brave." I whispered to the little girl who looked up disbelievingly.
"Really Papa?" she whispered.
"Yeah...You've faced your fear and even if you're still afraid you didn't let it get to you." I answered, watching as her face broke into a smile.
Setsuna came back in after about ten minutes, handing some paper to Michiru.
"She has strep throat. Just have the proscription filled and have her take it twice a day for five days and she should be fine." Mom stated before adding with a smile
"But No school for her in three days."
