A/N: In which Erza gives out the best present.
She was dreaming of pleasantries, swaddled in a multitude of blankets and wrapped in someone's arms. A sigh of happiness and bliss left her lips, and she snuggled further into her cocoon of warmth. Such relaxation was hard to come by nowadays.
"Ma…"
Between missions and still dealing with Natsu and Gray, Erza barely had any time for herself. So given the fact, for the first time in weeks, she had the chance to sleep for more than a couple hours, she was grateful. And most certainly going to abuse the privilege.
"Ma!"
She groaned, shifting backwards and further into her husbands embrace. "Shut up, Jellal, I am sleeping," she grumbled, refusing to open her eyes. An indignant gasp had some part of her brain realizing that whoever had been calling her, it hadn't been her husband. Yet her brain was still too hazy and sleepy to completely realize it.
"Mommy said a bad word, she had to put money into the swearing jar!"
And two, tiny bodies jumped onto her in a flurry of giggles.
She yelled out in confusion, and from somewhere beside her Jellal let loose a series of confused noises. Their blankets were being moved, thrown down to their hips, and suddenly Erza had a small body curled up in her arms, their head nuzzling her chest.
"Mommy, mommy! It's Christmas! Get up, get up, get up!" Her 4-year-old daughter, Suki, instructed adamantly. "You can't sleep in on Christmas morning! We have presents to open, remember?"
She resisted the urge to whimper in desperation. She had time to sleep, and she wasn't allowed to? But already she could hear Jellal begrudgingly rising at the urging of their 5-year old son, Simon. The blue-haired mage tugged on her hand firmly, a silent message of 'if I'm going to be suffering this early, you are too' passing between them. She'd get him back for that later.
With a sigh, she smiled tiredly at her little girl and scooped her up, all the while rolling out of the bed. Suki squealed happily, clapping her hands and clinging to her mother as the quartet headed downstairs towards where their Christmas tree was set up. The lights were on, shining various colours across the creamy walls, and the brightly-wrapped presents were arranged neatly under the tree.
"Go ahead," Jellal rolled his eyes playfully at his children. Their children. "Grab your presents are start unwrapping them."
With several 'thank you's, the duo ran under the prickly pine needles and began tugging out the presents with their respective names on them. Erza and Jellal settled up against the sofa, the former curling into her husband's arms with a yawn. She was disappointed about the lack of sleep, but she would do anything for her kids. Who was she to deprive them of a Christmas morning spent together? Jellal absentmindedly pressed a warm kiss to the top of her head, holding the love of his life close against his side.
"They seem to like everything they got," he mused. "Were we unwise to filter Natsu's gifts?"
She chuckled, remembering the last time the rosette had given Simon something that she deemed 'unsafe'. It was for the boy's first Christmas, and she'd all but murdered him shortly after the gift was unwrapped. "He knows better than to give them something we wouldn't approve of."
Their kids expressed their gratitude and joy with everything that was unwrapped, their manners apparent. Erza was proud to say her children were the most well-mannered in the guild, given their father wasn't as…'wild' as the rest of her guild-mates. The mild-mannered ex-councilman was the perfect role model for her children, one of the many things she loved about him.
"Mom's turn," said man murmured into her ear, causing her to jump slightly. Suki and Simon cheered in agreement as Jellal pulled a smaller box out from far under the tree, handing it to her. It was wrapped in silver paper, with a sparkly red bow plopped on the top. Curious, she gently pulled apart the paper, eyes widening a fraction at the sight of the velvety box. That could only mean one thing: jewellery.
"Open it mommy! We all picked it out!" Her daughter declared proudly. Both of them were seated in Jellal's lap, the man's arms around all three members of his precious family. With bated breath, the trio watched Erza pull the lid off, relishing the soft gasp of wonderment that followed shortly after.
The necklace was simple, he knew, but she preferred simple. Simple meant she could wear it at any times, whether it be at home or on missions. It was a gold chain, with a single, tear-drop diamond pendant hanging on it. The diamond itself was custom made, with licks of red and blue on the inside.
"So you'll think of your blue-heads and redhead every time you see it," he murmured gently, smiling once she reached up and pressed a kiss to his lips. She followed it up by pressing soft kisses to both Suki and Simon's foreheads, murmuring 'thank you' to both of them.
Pulling up, Erza grinned at her family. A family of four, they were. But nonetheless, it was time for her present to them. With a mischievous glint in her eyes, she grabbed a hold of Jellal's fingers, squeezing them. She loved them all, so very dearly. They were her universe, her entire galaxy. And she wouldn't have it any other way.
"Now my present to you three," she began, winking. They stared at her expectantly as she raised a hand to her stomach. "What do you three say about another member of our family, hm?"
Suffice to say, she'd given the best present of the year.
