A/N: In which words are spoken.

The darkness of the night shrouded them from the rest of the world as Jellal walked down the riverbank, edging closer to the underbelly of the bridge he'd met Erza at about an hour ago. It was a clear night, with the moon shining brightly. He was returning from dropping Erza back off at the inn, a soft smile on his lips in memory of his favourite redhead.

And because of this, he nearly failed to notice the figure hidden in the shadows awaiting him. Nearly.

He quietly made his way over to Kagura, not missing the anger and bitter hatred that shone in her eyes. One hand rested atop the hilt of her infamous sword, as if she was ready to slice his head off without even speaking to him.

"I don't see what she sees in you," the sharp, icy words cut through the silence of the night, Sucking in a small breath, he faltered, coming to a halt in front of her. Kagura pushed off the wall, on guard albeit not moving. "She deserves so much more than you."

"For what it's worth, I don't see what she sees in me either," he shrugged, voice quiet. "Are you here to kill me?"

Kagura regarded him a moment, as if deciding which way to best chop off his head. He patiently waited, sending up a mental prayer that whenever Erza heard the news of his death, she wouldn't cry. He'd be damned (well, he probably already was) if she shed another tear over his pathetic self.

"As much I want to, I cannot," she finally spoke, drawing his attention away from his thoughts. In shock, he stared at the Rosemary Village native, prompting her to give an explanation. "Scarlet is the reason I am here. She is the reason you're here. We're both only looking out for her, in the end. Besides, my brother, bless his heart, wouldn't want you dead…nor would he blame you for his death."

With that, the woman turned to leave, not interested in small talk with her brother's murdered, however indirect it was. Jellal stared at her, wondering just how many people his Scarlet had saved.

"And between you and me? She'd never love another man."

With those as her parting words, Kagura left.
