Marie's Big Adventure: Lost in New York. Part 4: The visits.
(Characters belong to Wolfgang Reitherman and Walt Disney Pictures.)
NOTE: Some new characters will come out in this story and they are all OC's.
Paris, France:
The next day at the mansion of Madame Adelaide ...
The children were practicing their music and art classes, while Duchess was observing how they handle it.
Toulouse was in his art classes, creating new masterpieces and painting portraits of his family, while Berlioz with Marie was at the piano playing and singing.
But, when Marie and Berlioz began to sing, they began to have some problems, since they began to make mistakes in some parts of the song and singing out of tune.
This worried Duchess a lot who asked them why they sang like this:
"Darlings, what's going on? Why do you sing like that?" - Duchess asked a little worried.
Then the three kitties got nervous and Berlioz was the first to talk.
"Well ..." - Berlioz began to speak a little nervous - "We have not been practicing much lately"
This left a Duchess a little disappointed and at the same time worried that her children have not practiced as much as requested.
"And why haven't you?" - Duchess asked worried.
"We continued practicing our biting and clawing" - Berlioz said, blushing with embarrassment and with his head a little down.
Duchess sighed and said seriously:
"Darlings, I have told you so many times that it is not appropriated of aristocats!" - Told them a very serious and displeased Duchess
The children were left with the head downcast, a little flushed and with faces of sadness and very ashamed.
"Sorry mama…" - The three of them said in unison very sad.
Duchess then thought that they needed some help.
So she began to think of a way for them to get back to doing it right, so that they would regain their confidence and self-esteem.
"It's not my fault mama!" - Berlioz said apologetically- "It's all Toulouse's fault, he told me I was not as strong as him!"
"But you were the one who provoked me!" - Toulouse responded angrily- "Marie was also involved!"
"Ladies do not start fights, but they can finish them!" - Marie protested very offended.
"We've heard it a hundred times" - Toulouse said all challenging.
And then an argument was formed between them and they began to blame each other.
Duchess needed something soon to calm them down, but what? And then an idea came to her mind that would surely help them return to their former selves.
"Children listen to me!" - Duchess told her children, and at that moment, the three stopped arguing and paid attention to her who was seeing them less seriously than before.
Duchess took a deep breath and after releasing it said:
"Come on, my darlings, I am going to show you a song that my instructor always showed me when I always had problems with the lyrics…" - Duchess said as she went to the piano with her three little children to listen to her singing.
"Come here Berlioz" - Duchess told her little boy who approached the piano and sat next to her.
Then Duchess started to show Berlioz how to play the song that her instructor taught him. She gave him a demonstration of the first notes and then asked him to follow them as she did.
Then she sat in the chair near the piano and asked Marie and Toulouse to sit on the piano.
"Well, let's get started!" - Duchess told her children as they were paying attention to her mother - "Do you know what the secret is for famous singers and musicians to improve?"
Marie then raised her paw and said:
"They rehearse with the musical notes" - Marie answered
"Exactly, my dear" - Duchess said congratulating her dear little daughter.
"And how this will help us?" - Toulouse asked his mother clearly confused.
Duchess then refined her throat a little, and then asked Berlioz to start playing the piano as she had shown it to him.
"First listen, and then follow me ..." - Duchess said to her children as she began to sing the song of which she told them that her instructor taught her when she had problems with a song.
While Berlioz played the piano, Duchess began to sing ...
Duchess: "Let's start at the very beginning
A very good place to start
When you read you begin with ABC"
"When you sing you begin with Do, Re, Mi"
Marie, Toulouse, Berlioz: "Do, Re, Mi"
Duchess: "The first three notes just happen to be
Do, Re, Mi"
Marie, Toulouse, Berlioz: "Do, Re, Mi"
Duchess: "Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Te…"
Then the kitties stopped singing and Berlioz stopped playing the piano. And then Duchess began to think about the next part of the song.
" Oh, let's see if I can make it easier…" - Duchess said herself thinking- "Ah, I know!"
Then Berlioz played the piano again and Duchess sang the next verse of the song while Toulouse, Berlioz, and Marie listened attentively.
Duchess: "Do- A deer, a female deer"
"Re- A drop of golden sun"
"Mi- A name I call myself"
"Fa- A long, long way to run"
"So- A needle pulling thread"
"La- A note to follow so"
"Te- A drink with jam and bread"
"That will bring us back to Do, oh, oh, oh"
And then the kittens began to grasp the rhythm of the song that their mother showed them and while Berlioz played the piano, the three kept on singing. And this time it was their turn to sing the notes while their mother do the rest:
Marie, Toulouse, Berlioz: "Do"
Duchess: "A deer, a female deer"
Marie, Toulouse, Berlioz: "Re"
Duchess: "A drop of Golden sun"
Marie, Toulouse, Berlioz: "Mi"
Duchess: "A name I call myself"
Marie, Toulouse, Berlioz: "Fa"
Duchess: "A long, long way to run"
Marie, Toulouse, Berlioz: "So"
Duchess: "A needle pulling thread"
Marie, Toulouse, Berlioz: "La"
Duchess: "A note to follow so"
Marie, Toulouse, Berlioz: "Te"
Duchess: "A drink with jam and bread"
Duchess: "That will bring us back to Do, oh, oh, oh"
"Well darlings, now I will sing one of the notes and you will continue with the rest, ok?" - Duchess said to her children who nodded and began to sing it again, only this time it would be they who would sing the song, while their mother sang one of the notes while they continued with the rest:
Duchess: "Do"
Marie, Toulouse, Berlioz: "A deer, a female deer"
Duchess: "Re"
Marie, Toulouse, Berlioz: "A drop of golden sun"
Duchess: "Mi"
Marie, Toulouse, Berlioz: "A name I call myself"
Duchess: "Fa"
Marie, Toulouse, Berlioz: "A long, long way to run"
Duchess: "So"
Marie, Toulouse, Berlioz: "A needle pulling thread"
Duchess: "La"
Marie, Toulouse, Berlioz: "A note to follow so"
Duchess: "Te"
Marie, Toulouse, Berlioz: "A drink with jam and bread"
Everyone: "That will bring us back to Do"
Duchess: "Do Re Mi Fa So La Te Do, So Do!"
"Now children Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So and so on are the tools we use to build a song. Ones you have these notes in your head you can sing a million different tunes by mixing them up like this…" - Duchess said to the three kitties who now have regained their composture to be able to sing once again, and they kept going.
At that moment, Thomas appeared who was listening to their song and could not help but hear the beautiful voice of Duchess and see how their children did so well. And also Roquefort joined in after listening to the song they where singing.
Duchess: "SO DO LA FA MI DO RE (Can you do that?)"
Marie, Toulouse, Berlioz: "So, Do, La, Fa, Mi, Do, Re"
Duchess: "So, Do, La, Te, Do, Re, Do
Marie, Toulouse, Berlioz: "So, Do, La, Te, Do, Re, Do"
Duchess: "When you know the notes to sing, you can sing most anything"
"Together!"
Quartet (Duchess, Toulouse, Marie, Berlioz): "When you know the notes to sing, you can sing most anything"
And now those who joined the group were Thomas and Roquefort:
Sextet (Duchess, Thomas, Marie, Toulouse, Berlioz, and Roquefort):
"Do- A deer, a female deer"
"Re- A drop of golden sun"
"Mi- A name I call myself"
"Fa- A long, long way to run"
"So- A needle pulling thread"
"La- A note to follow so"
"Te- A drink with jam and bread"
"That will bring us back to Do"
"Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti, Do, Do, Ti, La, So, Fa, Mi, Re,"
"Do, Mi, Mi, Mi, So, So, Re, Fa, Fa, La, Ti, Ti"
"Do, Mi, Mi, Mi, So, So, Re, Fa, Fa, La, Ti, Ti"
"When you know the notes to sing, you can sing most anything"
Duchess: "Do- A deer, a female deer"
Roquefort: "Re- A drop of golden sun"
Thomas: "Mi- A name I call myself"
Toulouse: "Fa- A long, long way to run"
Marie: "So- A needle pulling thread"
Berlioz: "La- A note to follow so"
Duchess: "Te- A drink with jam and bread" Everyone: "That will bring us back to Do... Re... Mi... Fa... So... La... Ti... Do
So, Do, La, Fa, Mi, Do, Re So, Do, La, Fa, Mi, Do, Re La, So, Fa, Mi, Re...
Tiiiiii, Doooo
So, Do!"
When they finished, the three kittens applauded their mother.
"That was fantastic mama!" - Berlioz said very excited.
"Yeah, that was fun!" - Toulouse said in the same way that his little brother answered
"I really liked when we all sing together!" - Finally said Marie who was also very happy.
"You see darlings? If you learn these musical notes then you can sing any song. And I'm really proud of you." - Her mother told them very satisfied and proud that her children could do it.
"Thank you, mama!" - They said all together to then hug their mommy.
At that moment the bell rang in the mansion and Madame went to open to find out who it was.
"Oh, darlings. I forgot to tell you something..." - Duchess said as they stepped away from her with faces of curiosity
"What is it mama?" - They asked together clearly very curious
"Today we are going to have new visits so please, be kind and polite to them" - His mother said calmly and with a slight smile on his face- "Understood?"
"Yes mama" - They said all together at once.
At that moment the door of the mansion opened.
And standing there at that moment were nothing more nor less than Madame Mauvaise with her beloved cat Porshia. And next to her was another cat but this was a Birman cat, thinner and taller than Porshia. And next was another cat but this was much more shorter then them.
They were: * Richard (the tall one) and * Ron (the short one), the husband and the butler of Porshia.
"Welcome dear, go ahead" - Adelaide said very kindly to her best friend so she could enter.
Upon entering, Mauvaise could not help but see what the mansion looked like because it was much bigger than hers and much more luxurious. Porshia was also fascinated, as was her owner, with that great mansion that seemed worthy of an aristocrat. Richard also coud not take his eyes of the most beautiful and luxurious parts of the mansion.
"Well Adelaide, what a lovely house you have!" - Told a very fascinated Mauvaise
"Thank you dear" - said Adelaide thanking her friend's flattering comment- "Come, I'll show you around the place and the step to meet my pussycats"
"Very well" - Mauvaise said to then follow her friend to see and know the mansion a little more but not before leaving Porshia next to Richard and Ron on the floor.
"Well cherubs… You stay here while I go with Adelaide to see a little more around here, understood?" - Mauvaise told his three cats to then follow Adelaide up the stairs of the mansion to see the top floor.
Then, a voice that became familiar caught their attention:
"Bonjour, Porshia dear! How have you been?" - Said no one less than Duchess who was happy for seeing her best friend again.
Porshia approached Duchess simulating a smile and both greeted each other cordially as the ladies did.
"I'm very glad to see you again as well, darling" - Porshia said, all smiling and with a happy face while they continued to say hello.
Richard, who was seeing everything, could not help but see at Duchess with a love-struck expression, for he had also known Duchess for a long time. She was his platonic love in the past and that's why he couldn't take his eyes off of her, and has tried by any means to try to conquer her, but everything always ended up in a great failed attempt, And every time she went out with someone else,he tried by all means to separate her from him. And now he's married to Porshia and lives with her and Ron, but he's still in love with Duchess and still wants to conquer her.
When Porshia and Duchess finished, they recognized Richard's face and walked to where he was;
"Richard, is that you?" - Duchess asked surprised to see him in the future after several years of absence.
"Donc oui, mon chéri" - Richard said in a flattering tone while taking one of the paws of Duchess and then planted a tender but long kiss in it.
Porshia, who was watching all that, began to go crazy because of that unpleasant and ignoble feeling that could not be avoided.
But as she had to do well with Duchess, she restrained him and only tried to tell her husband that it was not necessary for him to continue doing it.
"*Ahem*, Richard! I think that's enough!" - Porshia answered to her husband for he to release Duchess.
Then, immediately he left Duchess and released her paw while regaining his composure.
"Excuse me, Madame" - He said as he walked away from Duchess a little.
After that moment, Duchess guided Porshia, her husband and servant to the living room where the children were waiting with Thomas.
"Well darlings, now I want you all to meet a childhood friend, her name is Porshia" - Duchess said to her children, presenting her best friend to them for the first time.
The three kitties stood in front of their mother's best friend and bowed to her, as people did to the people of royalty and the aristocracy.
"Please to meet you, Madame Dubois!" - The three kitties said cordially, bowing to their mother's friend.
Porshia was watching the kittens with a satisfied face, because she felt praised and as if she was a kind of a queen or something.
Then she introduced herself to Thomas O'malley as she did yesterday with her when they went to the hat shop.
When Richard's gaze went to the direction of Thomas a doubt came to his mind.
He approached Duchess and whispered:
"Duchess, we have not seen each other in a long time and I understand, but you can't go out with every cat that you see..."- He whispered to Duchess in a serious tone.
Duchess backed away a little and then said in a normal voice;
"He is not just any cat, he is my husband, and his name is Thomas O'malley" - Duchess answered in an educated and serious way at the same time.
This as expected, caused Richard to be in shock. He could not believe that his platonic love was able to cheat him and marry another, leaving him with a broken heart. Now he was beginning to feel a feeling just like Porshia's and at the same level as her. But just like Porshia he had to look well with her family and so he looked like it didn't matter, he just put a plastic smile and gave her congratulations for her new husband and for having such a beautiful family.
"Very well, now I want to introduce you to my three little children"- Duchess said to Richard as she guided him to the three kittens, while he thought about what she had said to him.
When aproaching them, Duchess went to present him each one of them:
"Richard, these are my three dear children, this is Toulouse" - Duchess said, and Toulouse at that time bowed in a polite form - "Berlioz" - Duchess said, and Berlioz just like his brother bowed cordially - "And this is my precious daughter, Marie" - And Marie did as his brothers a bow before him as a form of respect.
"Please to meet you, Meiseur Du Bois" - Marie said very kindly, delighted to finally meet him in person.
"It's also a pleasure to meet you dear, Porshia didn't stop talking about you or
your brothers..." - The cat said calmly to the kitten that surprised him, because of the great resemblance she had with her mother.
"Hey, you're identical to your mom! Did you know?" - Richard said to the little girl a bit surprised.
"Yes, and Madame tells me that when I grow up I will be as beautiful as my mama" - The little kitten said with a happy smile - "Thank you, Meiseur Du Bois!"
"Do not thank me, miss!" - Then he approached Marie and stared for a moment as if he was concentrating on something.
"Is something wrong?" - Marie asked, a bit confused.
Richard walked away and said:
"Oh, do not worry mon chéri, it's nothing" - Richard said moving away from her while looking at her with the same shape he did with her mother a couple of minutes ago.
At that moment, the two families of cats arrived in the room, nothing more, nothing less.
"Well Adelaide, I must say it. Your house sure is very big!" - Said her best friend
"Why, thank you! I'm glad you like it" - Adelaide said to her friend as she approached her cats and the other did the same, but with theirs.
"Well, why don't we go to drink some tea?" Adelaide told Mauvaise with her cats.
"I'll follow you" - Responded Mauvaise bringing her cats with her and then follow Adelaide to the living room to chat a little while they ate some macarons and drink some tea.
And it would also be the right time for O'malley and Duchess to tell the children that they would go on a trip to go from honeymoon to Venice and leave them in Porshia's care.
After a half hour (or well, almost half an hour:)
Adelaide, along with her friend Mauvaise and her beloved cats, were still in the living room. Taking tea, eating cookies, and telling anecdotes about when they stopped seeing each other for so many years. And the cats were also doing the same, but instead of drinking tea, they had delicious bowl of milk, and like them they were also eating some cookies.
When this was about to come to an end, O'malley took advantage of the moment to tell his children that they would go on a trip for a week and leave them under the tutelage of Porshia.
He gestured to Duchess to tell her that it was time to tell the children what he had planned. Duchess nodded and then whispered something to Porshia in the ear, she also nodded and cleared her throat.
The first to speak was Duchess, who sighed deeply and then spoke:
"Darlings... we have something to say to you" - Duchess said a little insecure and nervous.
The kitties then looked at each other, as if wondering what was going on.
"What is it mama?" - The three asked with curiosity and a little worried that it may be a bad sign.
"Well ..." - Duchess said while still unsure to tell them what she was going to say.
"We've been thinking a lot and ... after a long decision" - O'malley said this time, who was just as nervous as Duchess, but took courage and finally said it;
"We decided that Porshia would take care of you in what Duchess and I were in our Honeymoon to Venice" - Thomas told his stepsons, who were speechless and more confused than before.
"Darlings, listen to me..." - Duchess said this time, sighing more deeply and a little desilussined- "I know that you might find it hard to believe all this, but your father planned all this for just the two of us, so I have no other option than leaving all of you in her care."
The children did not know what to say, because this would be the first time they will be separated from their mother and their new father, and they did not want that to happen because if something bad happened to happen they woud not be there to help.
But this was very important for her mother and her father, so they decided to relax and think positive because if it was her mother's best friend, who looked very trustworthy, they thought that was for the best.
The three cats then looked at each other and nodded at their mother with a smile on their faces.
"Ok, mama!" - The three of them said together, leaving her mother surprised that they had taken it calmly.
"Really? Aren't you sad for not going with us?" - O'malley asked clearly confused and with the face in the same way as Duchess.
"No papa, we're fine!" - Berlioz said nodding.
"Yes papa, as long as you and mama have fun we'll be fine" - Marie said to her dad, making him satisfied with the result he had obtained, but his mom was not sure yet.
"Do you mean it?" - Her mother asked her still unconvinced of what was happening.
The kids then became a little nervous because they knew that their mother knew perfectly well that something was happening and she was never wrong on that point.
"Well ... ehh ... is that" - Said Berlioz, but then Toulouse speaked- "We are a little nervous" - Said his brother, finishing the sentence.
Duchess then showed a relaxed expression and let out a sigh, but this time of relief.
"Well then... First of all, there's no reason to be nervous, we're just going to be out for a week, and second, there's no reason to be sad, because remember what we said ..."
Then, the four put their paws together, while saying the phrase that their mother taught them:
"Family is for life, and family means no one gets left behind or forgotten."
"Do you understand?" - Duchess told her children with her smile and look of serenity. The cats smiled and decided that it would be best to stay with Porshia while their parents were in Venice on their Honeymoon.
"Yes mama!" - The three kittens said as they went to hug their mother.
Thomas saw the scene very happy that everything worked as planned, now he was sure that he had everything ready to go to his honeymoon with Duchess.
Porshia on the other hand, was disgusted with the idea of having to take care of the three cats of Duchess in his absence, and at that moment a thought went to her head.
'We'll see if it continues like this as soon as they leave, plus I think that Marie kitten could be useful in something' - she said herself with a malicious smile.
Richard who seemed to be the only one who noticed this couldn't help but smile in
the same way she did. Therefore, he knew exactly what she was up to and that's why he began to smile since he always knew what were her motives and he did not doubt that they were already sharing the same throughts. It was as if it were a special bond between them or something.
When the whole moment was over, they began to drink tea again.
7 Minutes later:
"Well Adelaide, it was a pleasure to talk to you again and I hope everything goes well on your Honeymoon with Jorge" - Mauvaise said as she said goodbye to her friend as she went to her car that was outside the mansion with her cats.
"I also hope to see you again soon, and I also hope that you take good care of my kittens during my absence" - Adelaide said goodbye to her friend as she made her way to her car.
It is not known if by coincidence. Because Adelaide also agreed with Mauvaise to take care of the house during the honeymoon of both couples.
"Do not worry dear, you can count on me" - Mauvaise said she was already getting into the car and getting ready to go out with her three cats.
Then the car started to start and began to move immediately.
"I'll see you in a week, darling, see you soon!" - Adelaida told Mauvaise when she started to walk away and drive home.
And that's how the meeting of Adelaide, Mauvaise and between both groups of cats ended.
Everything seemed to go well ... for now.
Well, let's finish with this: I'M SORRY! But I have been working on some things and now that I'm at the university is taking me a lot of time for me to get used to it! I just hope this get to you as a way to calm your nerves. XOXO
Cultural references:
1: The song that the cats sing at the begining is the song of "DO RE MI" of the musical: "The sound of music".
2: Also, the phrase that Duchess says with the kids is a reference to the Disney movie Lilo and Stitch.
