"Naruto, hm? First time I've heard the name" Rae commented as she closed her eyes in thought. "I like it" the girl said as she reopened her eyes. Leaning down to be at eye level with the blond, "Now, Naruto, would you mind telling me what you're doing wandering the halls late at night? It's dangerous with the monsters lurking about" Rae asked him with a gentle smile.
"M-Monsters?" the blond asked, the color leaving his face as images of grotesque monstrosities entered his mind.
"Oh" Rae tilted her head as she saw the young boy tremble slightly. "Yes, the castle has been invaded by horrible creatures that seek to spread their foul corruption" the holly woman said as slipped her hand out of Naruto's and used her now free arms to pull the blond into her embrace. "Do not fear, we have come to ensure that their influence does not spread further. I'd lay down my live before I allowed such horrid things to harm an innocent child like yourself" Rae comforted as she soothingly rubbed his back while resting her head gentle atop his.
"W-Who said I'm scared!?" Naruto blurted out as he bushed himself away from Rae slightly, looking up at her face in the process. "I'm a shinobi in training! Dealing with a few monsters is nothing!" the blond told her with a determined expression, despite the few trembles here and there.
"Shinobi, huh?" Rae said as she tried to figure out if she'd ever heard the word before. "Then, perhaps a strong, brave shinobi like you could walk with me for a bit. It would put my nerves at ease" Rae told the blond.
"Hmm? Well" Naruto began as he thought about it. "I guess I can go with ya!" the blond said with a big smile.
"It makes me happy to hear that" the holly woman told him as she stood back up. "Now, would you be so kind as to tell me where your room is?" Rae asked the blond as she took his hand in hers once more.
"Sure! It's this way" Naruto excitedly told her as he started pulling her arm in the direction he had come from.
Roughly twenty uneventful minutes latter
"Here it is, I think" Naruto told his new friend as he came to a stop in front of the cold, uninviting doors of his and Aria's room.
"I guess this is where we part ways then" Rae told the blond as she pulled her hand out of his.
"Wha!? But weren't we going to explore the castle?" Naruto asked, disappointed that she was only going to take him back to his room.
"When did I say we'd do that?" Rae asked the blond with a smile, making him puff up his cheeks in a pout. "Don't worry" the girl told him as she ruffled up his hair. "I'll be staying at the castle for a while so we're sure to meet again" Rae told him before taking her hand back and and reaching behind her. "In the mean time I'd like you to have this" the holy mage said as she pulled out a rosary and handed it out to him. "Keep this on you at all times. It's rosary that I crafted myself and then imbued it with the lords purifying power. With this those monsters wont be able to lay a hand on you" Rae assured the blond who gleefully to her gift.
"Thanks! You're a real life saver you know" Naruto excitedly told the girl as he held onto the rosary.
"There's no need to say that. Knowing my work will keep innocent souls safe is enough" Rae said as she turned to head down the corridor. "Try not to get into any trouble" the woman called back as candle light slowly shrank as she walked away.
"Even if she says that" the blond began to say aloud as he opened the door. "I'm still not tiered at all" Naruto complained to himself as he made his way over to the bed. Slipping his shoes off and managing to pull enough of the blanket out of Aria's grasp to cover himself without waking the girl Naruto began to stare up at the ceiling as he waited for sleep to take him. Well, that was the plan at least.
Just as expected, it wasn't long before Aria's hands unconsciously sought out her blond love. Aria asked in an almost uncomfortably calm tone as she glared at the rosary as if she were trying to destroy the object with that alone.
"Huh?" a confused blond looked down at his new gift and then back up at the princess. "This?" Naruto asked as he pointed at the rosary before answering the girl's question, "This really kind girl I ran into while walking around the castle gave it to me to keep monsters away. Pretty cool huh?".
Resisting the urge to tear her hair out, Aria settled for pinching the bridge of her nose in exasperation. "Naruto" Aria calmly and slowly said to the obviously oblivious blond she'd fallen in love with. "Do you, just so happen, to recall what monsters are in this world?" Aria asked the blond, her eyes firmly held shut as she tried to fight off an oncoming headache while spreading out her wings in an attempt to help him figure it out.
"Monsters are, uh" Naruto was saying while in thought before his expression of thought turned to one of realization. "Ahh! I'm sorry Aria! Are you alright!?" Naruto said, his worry returning in full force as he went to check on the girl.
"You dumbass!" Aria yelled as she started backing up from the approaching blond. "Get rid of that thing before you come any closer!" Aria shouted at the blond.
In a dimly lit room of a separate wing of the castle, a man with long black hair that seemed to grow into a dark grey as it traveled down his back sat at the room's desk, his back facing the door. Opening his coal black eyes as the flickering light of a candle danced across his face the man began to speak. "Were you able to locate it?" the softly spoken words escaped his lips as he sat there staring into the candle's flame.
"Forgive me father, but I wasn't able to find the piece" Rea apologized to the man as she stood in front of the door. The warm gentle expression she had while talking with the young blond was no longer there, instead she stood there with an almost professional face and posture.
"I see" the man said as a few strands of his hair fell in front of his face. "It's unlikely the negotiations will be settled quickly. Get some rest and we'll continue the search tomorrow" the man instructed her and with a short bow the girl exited the room.
Back with Naruto and Aria
"Uh, I said I saw sorry. So why are you tying me to the bed?" Naruto asked Aria as she finished securing the last pit of rope to the bed, now worried for himself rather than the lilim.
