Chapter 2
Thank you for the reviews, follows, and favorites. I really appreciate that you read and enjoyed the beginning of my continuation from White Orchids. I apologize for the delay in the next chapter. It takes me a while to really figure out the details. I may not be accurate on everything.
Disclaimer: Don't own the show obviously. I just write stories for fun because I enjoy writing and using my imagination.
Another Monday morning but a very special morning shines through as Mr and Mrs. Patrick Jane arrive at the office. Jane had decided to work part-time as well as remodeling the cabin. He is especially proud to realize he and Teresa were going to be parents. Teresa was going to continue working until her maternity leave. The idea of having a baby for Teresa was something she could not believe yet so reality of work was still her routine.
"We really should go on a honeymoon, dear. Newlyweds are supposed to." Jane reminded.
"I know, I haven't asked for time off. Cho and Abbott need us or me. We have no time to arrange anything." Lisbon admitted.
They entered the bullpen together and Jane immediately went to his couch. Lisbon went to Abbott's office soon to be Cho's office to see what was going on and see if there was anything to finish up with the Keller case. "Any new case called in, sir? Any more to finish on the Keller case?" Lisbon asked Abbott sitting in his desk and he immediately saw her. "No. Lisbon, or should I say Mrs. Jane? What are you doing here?" Lisbon immediately got seated in the chair across from him. Abbott was still in charge along with Cho until he would leave for D.C. in a couple of months. Cho was working his way to being the leader yet and was planning to rebuild his team.
"I came here to work. Jane's going to be working on the house, but I'm still going to work." Lisbon admitted. She was here to do her job and she didn't understand why Abbott was questioning her coming into work. It seemed strange why someone would question that since everyone knew how important her job was to her. She was happy that Jane had finally accepted she was going to continue her job. She did finally realize his concern over her safety after he was kidnapped by Keller. For her, it was the hardest thing to go through possibly knowing he may or may survive. This is what he felt like when she went out in the field. She knew she would have to limit her field time during her pregnancy and definitely not go into any highly dangerous situations. She still wanted to wait a little bit to tell the team about the pregnancy.
"I thought you and Jane would still be on your honeymoon." Abbott questioned looking at her with a confused look.
"Well, we just stayed in a hotel in town over the weekend. We didn't have anything longer planned." Lisbon confessed. Why on earth did Abbott really care whether or not Jane and her went on a honeymoon?
"Go ahead, Lisbon, you and Jane take some time. A couple of weeks. Cho agreed as well." Abbott insisted. "You haven't used all your vacation."
"Sir, you and Cho may need me." Lisbon protested. "You're short handed." She wanted to be there if they needed someone extra amd she wasn't ready to go anywhere. She knew Jane wanted to but they hadn't decided where exactly. Truthfully, she didn't really think about a honeymoon at the time. The wedding planning was overwhelming enough. It was easier to just go to work and he could work on the house.
"What I need you to do is go on a honeymoon with your husband." Abbott declared. "Now, go, I don't want to see you for two weeks. Cho doesn't either. Relax and enjoy your honeymoon." Abbott flicked out his hand. She was startled hearing his declaration not wanting her to come in. She might as well go. She instantly knew Jane would be pleased at the idea.
"Alright, but you'll call me if you absolutely need us." Lisbon said heading towards the door.
"Yes, now go." Abbott said. Lisbon scurried out the office as she was surprised her boss didn't want her there.
Lisbon walked out into the bullpen towards her desk, she grabbed her purse and stood in front of Jane on his couch. "Abbott doesn't want us here and he wants us to go on a honeymoon. He literally kicked me out of his office and told me to leave." Lisbon complained. Jane listened intently and grinned and laughed.
"Excellent." Jane smiled at the notion. "Then we shall go on our honeymoon." Jane got up instantly and grabbed Lisbon's hand and headed towards the elevator.
"I don't know how to go on a honeymoon." Lisbon admitted. She didn't know how she could not work. She hadn't been on vacation for years. She was always working. True, she had the two weeks after she and Jane came back from Miami, but they were still in Austin. They just were getting used to being in the new relationship beyond friendship.
"We shall figure that out together." Jane stated as they arrived to the elevator. Jane pushed the button to go down. The door opened and they both walked inside. "You know, Abbott has known about us all along."
"You can't be serious. He didn't know. We just revealed it when we announced about getting married. Everyone was surprised." Lisbon reacted while standing next to Jane.
"Well, He was the one that gave me the keys to get to the airport in Miami. He had tried to push me to get to say something to you before that." "Jane admitted.
"Oh. So, we can thank him for you finally revealing your feelings." Lisbon admitted. Abbott was playing cupid the entire time. She then remembered the Il Tavalo Bianco dinner that he set up. That was Abbott playing matchmaker trying to get them to talk and the fact that he offered his house for their wedding.
"Yes, I suppose we can." Jane said as the elevator door dinged when it arrived on the ground floor.
"Jane, where exactly are we going to go? We didn't plan anything." Lisbon asked.
"Let's go where the Airstream takes us." Jane suggested grinning.
"We have no plan. Is this what you did when you went somewhere nice?" Lisbon questioned worriedly. She was still a little upset with him for leaving then but she started to understand his need to work through what he needed to work through. Vega's death wasn't easy for hin. She still wished he would have just talked to her and let her help him. She nearly told him then about the baby but then it didn't seem like the right time. Then he proposed and took off his ring and then she knew he was ready to move on with her and would stay and be committed.
"Basically, yes." Jane admitted still feeling remorseful. He did wish he would've done something differently. He shouldn't have ran away like that but at least she knew he was going. At the time, his fear took over and it was very difficult to deal with Vega's death and thinking the very same thing could happen to Lisbon.
"We shouldn't go too far. Abbott and Cho don't have anybody extra. Wylie's still learning how to be in the field." Lisbon stated thinking of the practical aspect.
"Teresa, don't worry about them. Abbott wants us to go. We need to relax. Maybe we should go to Fiji."
"That's not exactly close." Lisbon reminded Jane. "Besides, I'm not sure I could travel that far anyway." She hadn't read up on details about pregnant women traveling on planes and especially travelling internationally. She was still processing the news. She hadn't had a chance yet to get a afew weeks she will be going to the doctor for regular appointments. She didn't want to take a risk right now.
" We haven't throughly enjoyed Texas without the pleasure of a dead body. Let's just explore the state and then that way we'll be close in case Abbott or Cho calls, which I doubt it, after all both of them wants us to go." Jane explained. He really loved his boss now making Lisbon go on a honeymoon and he guessed that Cho was part of the decision too. He wanted to enjoy some time with his wife and he probably couldn't convince her to go anywhere without Abbott.
"Alright, let's do it." Lisbon grinned. She was going enjoy the honeymoon and not worry so much.
It was decided that they explore more of Texas for the next couple of weeks. Since moving to Austin, they hadn't enjoyed the state unless it involved a murder to investigate. After getting packed, they headed off in the Airstream. Jane got in the driver's seat and Lisbon went beside him in the passenger seat. "Now if you need to stop, tell me."
"Very funny, Jane. I feel fine."Lisbon admitted. Surprisingly, she hadn't experienced morning sickness as of yet. Her major indication was when she missed her cycle and tiredness and starting to feel her changes of moods.
"I'm serious, I've experienced this before."Jane admitted.
"Oh." Lisbon remembered.
"So, when did you suspect the pregnancy? I know you last week."
"I was more tired and starting to experience mood changes and missed my cycle."
"Very understandable, I was an idiot last week." Jane admitted.
"I took a test and had a doctor confirmed it." Lisbon confessed.
"Do you have an appointment scheduled?"
"In a few weeks." Lisbon admitted.
"I'll go with you of course." Jane offered.
"I'm glad."
Jane and Lisbon arrived in Galveston after three hours on the road with the exception of rest stops. They searched for a place to stay until they found a small Bed and Breakfast that was a large Victorian house. They decided on that instead of the Airstream even though they saw RV parks. They stopped there and soon went into the large house. An older lady in her 70s greeted them at the front desk and she instlantly spotted the couple enter the house and went up to them. "May I help you?"
"We're looking for a place to stay." Jane admitted.
"Of course. You look like a nice a couple." The older woman observed Jane and Lisbon. "I'm Doris Carter."
Jane held Lisbon's hand. "We just got married. We're on our honeymoon." He announced. Lisbon smiled and looked at him. "Patrick Jane, this is Teresa."
"How lovely, newlyweds. Nice to meet you. My husband Gary is somewhere around here. I'll get you checked in." She went to a desk with a file on the desk and took out a piece of paper. "I needed you to fill this out."
Jane took it and started filling it out. He finished and gave it back.
"So, when was the wedding?" Doris asked. Jane completed it and handed it to her.
"Oh, Saturday." Lisbon answered. She might as well talk to Doris and she seemed like a nice lady.
"It was a spontaeneous wedding." Jane grinned.
"Those are usually the best kind. I've heard stories of ones planning months and months with tedious details and they end up practically breaking up. I'll show you to your room." Doris grabbed keys on the shelf of reception desk. She walked from behind the counter and went up the stairs. They followed her up the stairs.
"We originally were going to the justice of peace with just us and but then we ended up having some family and friends." Lisbon explained. She decided not to include that they arrested a serial killer the same day.
"Very nice. I hope you enjoy your time here. Oh, here's some brochures of things to do." Doris handed brochures to Jane. "Oh, dinner's at 6:00 p.m if you choose so."
"Thank you, Doris. You're very kind." Lisbon smiled kindly. They went back to the Airstream and retrieved their luggage and brought it back up to the room and then headed back downstairs. Jane and Lisbon happily sauntered out of the B& B. Jane started skimming through the brochures, sees one for a carriage ride. "We should go on this." Lisbon took part of the brochure and looked along with him. "That looks nice. Okay, let's go on it." Lisbon smiled. She wouldn't try to be practical. They were on their honeymoon. Her old self would refuse the idea too prim and proper. Jane had taught her to enjoy life more throughout the years the longer they were together. She would enjoy it and not focus on working. They walked down the street from the B& B to the carriage stables. They paid for the 45 minute ride and got on. "Welcome to Galveston." The driver said. "I'm Mike, our lovely chestnut is Olympus." The driver introduced himself and pointed to the horse pulling the white Victorian style carriage.
"I'm surprised you so readily agreed to go on a carriage ride." Jane noted as they situated in the seat.
"I do enjoy romantic things. I'm still a woman. I would not have done this a long time ago. I didn't have time or the interest at the time." Lisbon admitted.
"So, you two where are you from?" Mike asked from up front.
"Well, we live in Austin right now. We used to live in California and just moved here about a year ago. We haven't had time to really enjoy Texas other than it being work related" Lisbon confessed.
"We are newlyweds."Jane piped up. Lisbon smiled embarrassedly.
"Congratualations." Mike answered. "This is absolutely the perfect thing for newlyweds to do on their trip to Galveston."
"Jane, do you have to tell everyone we just got married?" Lisbon whispered in Jane's ear.
"What, Teresa, can't I be proud I'm married to you?" Jane grinned as she rolled her eyes.
The driver took them throughout the streets of Galveston by historic houses and buildings. They rode by other places such as the home furnishings store, "The Naked Mermaid" which caught their eye. "We should look for ideas for the cabin." Jane suggested.
"Because of the unusual name." Lisbon smirked. "Of course you want to go. You're a man."
After the carriage ride they ate a quick lunch in a cafe and then ended up at the store.
"So, what are your plans for the cabin?" Lisbon asked while entering the shop. She observed the furniture and decorations throughtout the store.
"We should get the inside rooms remodeled for the baby and us. We could even add on additional rooms such as office, sunroom, game are some ideas to throw around, anyway." Jane excitedly explained as he observed the store as well.
"Wow, those are really some ambitious plans." Lisbon grinned excitedly briefly imagining the finished product. Then she transformed into her practical, realistic side. "You think you can do it on your own? As far as I know I've never seen you do anything as physical as building and remodeling a house." Lisbon wondered. She had never remotely seen Jane do anything like that. She picked up a pillow looking at the price. Then set it back down.
Jane listened intently over her concern. "That's true, you've never seen my completely domestic side. My industrious part. You've only known me obsessing over you know who." Jane realized the side Lisbon saw was his constant focus on his revenge. It had been a part of him for so long that it took over his other sides.
"Yes." Lisbon simply stated.
"Well, you're in luck. I've had experience with building helping and fixing things in the carnival. We did a lot of painting and domestic chores there. And I've been reading a book." Jane assured her.
"That's good to know and I saw you reading the book. I know you can figure most anything out." I believe in you." Lisbon stated. "Do you think you can do it on your own? I talked to Stan and mentioned you planned to work on the cabin. He said he could take some time off and help you. Jimmy offered to do the electrical work when ready. They really like you." Lisbon explained.
"Sure, that would be fantastic to have them help. I do want to get it done before the baby's born." Jane admitted spotting another couple coming into the store. The woman was very pregnant and also pushing a stroller with a two year old boy.
"Well, then you'll need some help. It's going to be a huge feat to build and remodel a house, Ja-Patrick." Lisbon reminded noticing the couple as well as they entered the store.
Jane wanted to literally build a home for his growing family as he noticed the family. He knew he wanted stability in his life after years of running and living in hotel rooms, the CBI attic and an Airstream. Living in the Airstream did not scream stability for Lisbon she knew he could just leave and escape a situation. After discovering the cabin that one time in the field, he instantly knew what he wanted. He wanted to be committed to Lisbon. He was committed in building his home from love and hard work. He wanted to do this differently. When he lived in Malibu, he bought that house with dishonest money. This house was going to be built with honest work. The Airstream matched his mobile feelings as he was not sure where to hang his hat or call a place home. It was time to settle down. Lisbon is his home. He is going to rebuild his life in rebuilding the house. He was going to sweep away dirt, dust, and muck of the past and it was time to lay down a new floor to lead him to a real life.
That night they decided to go ahead and eat with Doris and Gary at the Bed and Breakfast. Doris proved to be a nice woman and they liked her. Lisbon was getting more tired and didn't feel like seeing a lot of people at a restaurant so she wanted a quiet dinner.
Doris served baked Swiss Steak with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. Jane, Lisbon, The Carters were all seated around the large dining table. It was not the busy time of year for them they mentioned so Jane and Lisbon were the only guests. Weekends were busier for the rooms, however during the day they served lunch and that kept the place busy.
"Doris, this is absolutely delicious." Jane raved after taking a bite of the meat and then put down his fork.
"You can thank Gary for it. He's the chef here. I just set the table." Doris said pointing to her husband sitting next to her.
"Well, it's very good, Gary." Lisbon complimented bringing her fork up and then taking a bite.
"Thank you. My wife says you two are newlyweds." Gary mentioned looking at Jane and Lisbon.
"Yes, we are" Jane grinned at Lisbon.
"If you don't mind us asking, how did you meet? We love hearing the stories." Doris asked. Lisbon and Jane looked at each other. Lisbon looked at Jane not sure how to answer since the reason they met was because of Angela and Charlotte's murder. It was really tragedy that brought them together and the hunting for Red John. She wasn't sure if Jane would really want to go into the whole details of the reality of their meeting.
"Oh, we met at work a few years ago in California." Jane saved the moment of Lisbon's confusion on how to answer their meeting. "Then we moved to Austin a couple years later."
"Yes, we were friends for 10 years before we became a couple." Lisbon finished.
"Oh, Gary and I were exactly like that. We were friends for years and at one time were engaged to different people. Those didn't work out and we realized we loved each other and got married. We've been happy since." Doris explained blissfully and smiled at Gary.
"Yes, we are. Marrying my best friend was the greatest thing that happened to me. 40 Years later and we'll still happy."
All the places that I name in my stories are real places. The Naked Mermaid is a real home furnishing store in Galveston. The Driskell Hotel is a real hotel in Austin. I like to do research on the cities and places in the city. Yes, I know I should have them go on a more exotic honeymoon than Texas but I could picture Lisbon being practical on the matter and not wanting to go too faraway with a spontaeneous trip and they need more planning time on an international trip which I do want them to have.
Feedback is appreciated.
