Chapter 4

I hope you are enjoying my story. This chapter is basically more of honeymoon and coming back to Austin. This chapter ended up longer than anticipated. I appreciate the follows and feedback I do get.

Disclaimer: Don't own show obviously

After a couple days in Galveston, Jane and Lisbon looked on the map. Jane looked at the map and decided he wanted to go to Big Bend National Park, since he enjoyed the Grand Canyon. They had never visited that area of Texas or at least they had never had a murder to solve in that area. Lisbon hesitantly agreed. "Jane, do we have to go in the middle of nowhere? You know I don't do well in the wilderness."

"Come on, please, Teresa. I think you will enjoy the scenery. We need to enjoy nature's beauty." Jane begged.

"Okay, fine if you really want to go." Lisbon reluctantly agreed. They took off soon in the Airstream on the five hour drive to the national park. "Make sure we stay somewhere with running water."

"There will be. Might not be mints on the pillow."Jane admitted apologetically.

Jane and Lisbon finally arrived at Big Bend with a couple of stops along the way. Jane called ahead to the Chisos Mountains Lodge in the park. There were a couple of RV parks, but Jane decided Lisbon would prefer a lodge since she stayed with him in the Airstream all the time in Austin. Jane parked the Airstream in the lot and they both went to the lodge.

During her childhood years her family never went on any sort of trips and that didn't happen after her mother was killed. She had to care for her brothers and take over as guardian while her father would be in his drunken stupor. Living in Chicago, she never had any experience in the wilderness. She knew Jane had always enjoyed the nature whenever they investigated a murder in a natural setting. She also guessed he experienced nature traveling in the carnival. She wanted to enjoy the national park since Jane enjoyed it.

"Yes, I do like the scenery here." Lisbon said looking at the large lodge in front of them and admiring the mountains around them. They went in the lobby and checked in and finally arrived in the room. It was a very simple, nothing like the Driskell they had stayed in Austin. The room was decorated in Southwestern colors and had no TV.

"You want to hike?" Jane asked.

"Not really." Lisbon admitted. She didn't want to really get hot. She did like it better than she thought and she didn't want to wear herself out.

"Oh, I know we take a drive and just stop on short stops." Jane suggested.

"That would be better." Lisbon stated.

They drove along the Ross Maxwell Scenic drive of the park which feature continued looks of the Chisos mountains which included many scenic stops.

"So, remember when you absolutely refused to go in the Airstream during that case in Mexico?" Jane recalled "Fischer had to go with me. I wanted you to go."

"Yes, I remember. I'm sorry. I should've gone with you. I was a little apprehensive when you got the Airstream. I thought you would just take off in it." Lisbon explained. "At the time, it didn't scream commitment."

I know and I recently did take off." Jane said remembering taking off after Vega's funeral."One reason I wanted the Airstream was because we never got a new trailer. My father had promised we would from the money I made for him and it never happened. So, I took the opportunity with my terms to ask for it. Sam and Pete have one, so I guess I kind of was going back to memory lane" Jane explained. Lisbon was surprised to hear Jane talk about his past and especially about his father. She hadn't heard him talk about him before.

"You've never told me that before. Oh, I understand now and I'm fine with it now. It's actually cozy." Lisbon confessed. "Of course, I've been basically living in it with you. I realize it's a lot better than the CBI attic."

"Yes, that is true." Jane admitted. I'm glad you like it now."

"Are you quitting the FBI for good?" Lisbon asked wondering about Jane's plan.

"Not completely. I'll work part time or if I'm absolutely needed. I want to mostly concentrate on the cabin." Jane admitted. "I just want to do something new."

"I understand. I promise I'll be safe." Lisbon stated.

They stopped along the road and enjoyed some of the scenic areas. No matter where they were they just enjoyed being together.

Later that evening, after they ate a delicious meal at the lodge restaurant, Lisbon decided she just rest on the bed. It was around 9:00 Jane was going out to the balcony of their room to sit in the chairs and enjoy the view outside. Lisbon curled up on the bed and laid on her side trying to sleep, when all of a sudden she heard Jane calling. "Here, piggy, piggy. Come here." She jumped up and went straight outside on the balcony by Jane. She looked at him confused. "Jane, what are you doing?" Then she looked out at the scene below and sure enough there was a large brown type of pig moving around the ground.

"There is a javelina down there. It's a type of pig." Jane pointed to the pig. "Isn't it great? Wildlife in our backyard!" Jane said excitedly like a little boy.

"I see that. Why are you talking to it?" Lisbon put her hands on her hips and stared at him with a questioned look.

"So, it would come closer so I could get a good look at it." Jane grinned like a mischievious little boy.

"Is it safe? It's not going to come up here, is it?" Lisbon asked worriedly.

"We're up here and it's down there" Jane pointed to them and then he pointed to the pig. "It's not coming up. Don't worry, Teresa." He noticed the javelina leaving to the woods. "Here, piggy, piggy, come back."

"Why are you calling it again?" Lisbon asked still confused.

"I want to see it." Jane answered grinning. Unfortunately, the javelina didn't listen and headed into the woods. Jane looked disappointed. Lisbon looked relieved.

"Are you getting into your little kid phase again? Am I going to take care of two children now? You and our baby." Lisbon joked laughing at how Jane was acting seeing the pig. It had been a long time since she saw him like this. Maybe it was because of the combination of added new joy of getting married and finding out he was going to be a father again. She remembered when he acted like a little kid early on in the CBI days, she would practically had to talk and scold to him like a child.

"Everyone has a little kid in them, they just have to let it out." Jane responded and then gave Lisbon a big little kid hug and then he broke the hug.

"Come on, Patrick, let's get ready for bed now. We have to get up early." Lisbon said the speaking to a baby voice. She laughed and motioned him to come in the room.

"What was that, Teresa? Jane laughed and grinned at her voice.

"Just getting my practice." Lisbon grinned teasingly.

They got ready for bed and soon were laying in bed. "You should have seen when I called the imaginary rabbit. I was really loopy." Jane remembered the time he drank the belladonna tea and had hallucinations. He looked at Lisbon.

"You tried to drive off in an ambulance. I saw you loopy." Lisbon laughed at the memory.

"Yes, one thing I learned is not to drink unusual tea." Jane admitted. He definitely made sure from then on not to just drink used tea that he didn't know what it was in it.

"Good lesson." Lisbon noted.

"If you think I was a little kid tonight, wait until the baby's born. It will really show up." Jane grinned.

"Looking forward to it." Lisbon grinned.

"I'm really happy. Genuinely happy. I never thought I would be this happy again. You know, having a family again. Thank you." Jane described smiling at Lisbon and then kissed her.

Two Weeks Later

After they enjoyed their honeymoon and Lisbon was ready to get back to work and Jane was anxious about getting started back on working on their house. They stayed in her house when they came back because she had enough of the Airstream considering they had traveled in it on their trip. She hadn't yet decided when to sell her house, but she decided she wasn't ready to give it up yet as she didn't know when the cabin would be finished. She had decided that at some point to get her brothers down to help with Jane and maybe hire someone to help him as well. It wasn't that she didn't think he would accomplish it on his own. She just worried about him getting too worn out and rushed to getting it done a certain time. Getting her brothers down would give them some quality family time as she wanted to improve her relationship with them.

In just two weeks since she told Jane about the baby she noticed her clothes feeling a little tighter than normal. She wasn't that far along maybe two or three months. She knew eventually she would have to start buying maternity clothes.

"Nothing fits" Lisbon cried as she tried to zip her pants up. Lisbon cried. Jane noticed her meltdown as he was getting ready himself. He was familiar with this part. "Two weeks ago my clothes fit. I didn't expect this yet, I'm not showing quite yet."

"It's okay, Teresa. It'll be alright." Jane reassured her.

"It's easy for you to say." Lisbon snapped back still crying.

"When are we going to tell people about your pregnancy?" Jane asked as he went up to her and put his right hand on her shoulder and wiped her eye with his other hand.

"I don't know. It's really hard to know. I suppose we should tell Cho and Abbott if he's still there. I know he'll be leaving or has left for D.C." Lisbon acknowledged giving a small smile.

"So, maybe you should tell them today?" Jane inquired.

"I'll tell Cho today." Lisbon admitted.

"You do realize you may be required to stay in the office for working." Jane reminded.

"Yes, I'm well aware and I know you'll be even more worried about me now that I'm pregnant. That's why I want to tell Cho today."

"I'll be very concerned." Jane admitted.

Lisbon took off to the office, while Jane had taken off to work on the cabin. He would come in if they absolutely needed him. It was strange not having him come with her to the office. She had been used to it for months now and she had been used to seeing him on his couch at the CBI and FBI, but at least she knew where he was. He mentioned he may come in later in the afternoon. She was prepared to tell Cho and possibly Abbott about her pregnancy. She knew she couldn't keep that secret forever as she will show in a couple months. As he said, she knew Jane would be crazy worried over her in the field. Her being pregnant would triple his worry from what it had become recently. As much as she loved her job, she loved Jane and now her unborn baby. She wanted to be safe as possible for herself too. She might as well tell ahead of time early and before she started showing and the baby growing and would become more of a risk.

She knocked on the supervising agent's door. She wondered if Cho had completely taken over for Abbott. She assumed he had, considering he was mostly in charge with the Keller case.

"Come in." Cho answered as he was seated in the desk. Abbott was standing over the desk besides Cho. It was going to be different to call Cho boss since she was boss to him for so many years. She was proud of him and she knew he could do it. She had confidence when she appointed him substitute leader when she couldn't do it at CBI.

"Abbott, I thought you would've been moved to D.C. by now." Lisbon noted. "How's Lena?"

"Oh, well, we're still doing last minute packing and we should be moving for good this weekend. She's good. How was your honeymoon?" Abbott asked grinning.

"It was nice and relaxing. We went down to Galveston some and enjoyed the beach and around the state. Thanks for telling us to take the time off." Lisbon explained.

"What can we do for you?" Cho asked getting right to the point of why she was here in the office.

"There's something I need to tell you. I may not be able to go out in the field for awhile. I want to be able to but Jane wouldn't want me to go out in the field. As you probably guess, Jane is concerned over my safety in the field." Lisbon started describing. She didn't know why she was having so much trouble saying what she wanted to say. Maybe it was her new hormones. She normally was so confident in this. She supposed it was a hard thing considering this involved basically mentioning their private life.

"I did realize that. What do you want to say?" Abbott questioned.

She wanted to answer, but before she could Cho answered for her. "You're pregnant." Cho guessed in his deadpan manner.

"Yes. We recently found out and I thought I better say something." Lisbon explained finally getting her confidence up. "I know I will have to do work in the office mostly during my pregnancy."

"Well, congratulations, Teresa." Abbott declared happily. "That's really good news. I imagine Patrick's happy."

"Yes, he is very, very happy. He was surprised." Lisbon confessed. "He's wanting to get the house built."

"Yes, congratulations." Cho responded.

"Thank you." Lisbon smiled. "Any new case?"

"Not at the moment."

After leaving Cho's office, she decided she would call her brothers about the news. They would appreciate a call from her because she really did want to be closer to them and attempt to see them more often. Jane had helped her realize that she needed to do that. She had the time so she decided to go ahead and call Stan and hopefully he would be home.

Lisbon situated her laptop computer on her desk. She briefly turned her head to Jane's couch, then remembered he was at the cabin. She turned to the computer again and pulled up her video call program and then found Stan's name and clicked it. She waited a minute to see if he would answer. Finally, she saw Stan's face. "Hey, T, you calling so soon. I didn't expect it. I thought you'd be dead to the world." Stan excited exclaimed.

"Why would I be?" Lisbon asked with a confused face.

"Well, being on your honeymoon being caught up in new marital bliss. I assume you did go on one, right? You didn't just go straight back to work?" Stan asked.

"Yes, we went on one. Someone made sure of that." Lisbon answered remembering Abbott. "We went around the state, Galveston and a national park. Nothing too fancy. We may go somewhere else later."

"Good. I'm happy about that. Now tell me why'd you decide to call your dear brother? There has to be a reason."

"I have some news." Lisbon breathed. She might as well get this over with. "Patrick and I are expecting a baby."

Stan looked at her stunned. "You're kidding." Then pretended to faint.

"Stan, are you still there?" Lisbon asked and laughed a bit.

He soon "recovered" and sat back up. "Whoa, I didn't expect that. A couple weeks ago you told about getting married and now you're having a kid."

"I can't believe it either." Lisbon confessed. It was true, when she found it she was in shock.

"Congratulations." He smiled. "I imagine Patrick's happy. He's so good with my kids. That is one of the reasons I approved him."

"He's very happy about it. Do you need to get back to work? I probably called at a bad time." Lisbon admitted.

"I don't have to do anything until this afternoon. You're fine. Do you want to talk to Karen? She's here."

"Sure." Lisbon answered. She liked Stan's wife. Stan soon left and then Karen came to take his place in his seat.

"Stan just told me the good news. Congratulations" Karen said smiling.

"Thank you." Lisbon said.

"I certainly can give you tips. I've been through it enough. Four times." Karen said exasperated.

"Sure, that would be very good. I haven't been able to get a book yet." Lisbon confessed. "I have the first real appointment in a couple weeks."

"It always helps to hear tips and suggestions from a real person. Books can't tell you everything. I will certainly help you. If you need some maternity clothes, I have plenty. Those are always annoying to look at."

"The tips would be great. I'm not quite ready for maternity clothes yet, but I'll let you know." Lisbon admitted patting her still flat stomach, though she knew she had gained a little weight considering her pants felt a little snug.

"I know. I won't bog you down with too much information yet. Some of it can be overwhelming." Karen explained.

"I will let you know. Thank you."

"Oh, T." Stan popped up behind Karen. She smiled. "Let me know when you want me to help Patrick with that cabin."

"Of course, I will. He just started. He's still figuring out plans. He needs help with it for sure. We would greatly appreciate it." Lisbon admitted.

"Have you told Jimmy and Tommy?"

"No, you're the first. I plan to tell them."

"I'll tell Jimmy. He's calling later. If you don't mind me telling him."

"It's alright. You can."

"It was really great talking to you, sis. I'm glad you called and congratulations. Say hello to Patrick for me and congratulate him as well. Good bye."

"Bye." Lisbon closed her laptop and then decided to call Tommy. Hopefully she could get a hold of him. She decided she should call him by phone, since a phone number was all she had for him. She took out her cell phone and pushed the Tommy's name with his number and she went into the break room.

"Hey, Reese." Tommy answered in a surprised voice. "I apologize for missing your wedding. I wanted to be there. I really did."

"I really missed you being there too but I understand if you couldn't. Jimmy and Stan made it. Did you get your bounty?"

"Yeah, I did. Took a while though. He ended up hiding in the woods. That wilderness goes on forever but I enjoyed Alaska. Remind me who your new husband is and congratulations." Tommy explained.

"You met him a few years ago when you and Annabeth were in California. He helped you get Carmine O' Brien." Lisbon explained surprised he didn't remember from when she talked to him before the wedding.

"Oh, yes. The blonde guy with the vest. I noticed he had an eye for you." Tommy realized.

"Yes. Patrick Jane. How is Annie?" Lisbon wanted to know about her niece. She hadn't seen her in so long. She knew Annie wanted to be a cop like her. She was one tough girl when she saw her.

"Oh, she's good. Believe it or not she's in college. She's planning to go to police academy. My ex is not excited about it. I am, because I know how much she looked up to you. She's grown up so fast. One minute she's a baby in diapers and the next she's a college student. I feel really old now."

"Tell her congratulations and good luck." Lisbon stated. She decided to tell him now. "Oh, speaking of babies, Patrick and I are expecting one."

"Wow, that's good news, Reese. I can't believe you're telling about what's happing to you. It's been a long time since you just called like this just to talk." Tommy raved.

"Without me yelling at you. I want to be better. Patrick has encouraged me to reach out and communicate to you and your brothers and I want to spend more time with you." Lisbon explained.

"Well, I really approve of him now. I should just get down to Austin sometime. I know Annabeth would love to see you when she has a break."

"Let me know. I have my house still. Patrick's remodeling and adding to a cabin he recently bought." Lisbon told.

"Would he need help? I could help if you want me to." Tommy offered.

"Yeah, that would be great. Stan offered to help as well. Patrick needs help." Lisbon said. "He wants to get it done before the baby comes."

"Well, let me know. Thanks for calling, Reese. I really did enjoy talking."

"I'm glad I called, Tommy. Good bye."

"Bye."

At noontime, she was waiting to see if Jane would call about how he was doing. Sure enough she soon spotted him coming from the elevator with a bag in his hand. She instantly walked up to him and went ahead and hugged him. She decided it was okay to hug him, since everyone knew they were married. "Hey, how are you? How did everyone take our news?"Jane questioned after breaking out of their hug.

"Fine. They congratulated me. I called my brothers, Stan and Tommy. I felt like talking to them." Lisbon confessed.

"I'm glad you are talking to them. They need to hear from you." Jane declared happily.

"Yes, I know. Thanks so much for encouraging me." Lisbon smiled warmly.

"Well, they're my family now. I like them." Jane shared smiling placed his hand on Lisbon's shoulder.

"And they like you." Lisbon said smiling. "What's in the bag?

"Well, something we need."Jane said as he took a book out, What to Expect When Expecting. "I assume you haven't gotten a book."

"No, I haven't. I was just thinking about that. Do you have to have it out in the open. I only told Cho and Abbott." Lisbon blushed embarrassed.

"I'll put it back." Jane put the book in the bag. Soon Cho came out into the bullpen heading from his office and spotted Jane and Lisbon by the elevator. He walked up to them. "So, I hear the stork's coming." Cho mentioned to Jane in his deadpan manner.

"Really, a large bird is coming? Where? When?" Jane acted confused looking around. Cho held in a laugh.

"It's a phrase for a baby coming." Lisbon lauged and looked at Jane.

"Yes, I'm well aware of what that phrase means. Just playing." Jane grinned. "I never could get why people used that. A bird carrying a baby? Seems absurd. I have to admit it was used to explain where babies came from." Both Cho and Lisbon knew who he explained that to in his life.

"Well, congratulations, Jane. I imagine, you really will get working on that house."

"Oh, yes, nothing like having a motivator like having a baby. I hope the stork doesn't fly too fast, but gets here right at a healthy time for Teresa."

I apologize if I have Abbott's leaving time as wrong. Was he getting ready to move in White Orchids? He was still kind of in charge and Cho was starting to take over.

Big Bend National Park is my dad's favorite place in Texas to go see wildlife and birds. We had been there a few years ago. That is why I used it in this story. I also couldn't help myself but I needed to bring back little kid acting Jane from the first and second season because I've been rewatching the seasons. I also do think her brothers should know about the baby before anybody with the exception of Cho and Abbott. She called them right away about getting married.
