Chapter 5
I am very pleased with this chapter mostly the first half. I may not do a case in this story. Reason 1-I'm going to focus on Jane and Lisbon and their life outside work. 2-I have a case I need to finish up in another story. I am very thankful for the follows, reviews and favorites for my story.
Disclaimer:Again I don't own the show.
A Few Weeks Later
In the morning, Lisbon was getting dressed for the first 11:00 am appointment, the 8 weeks appointment at the clinic to for the progression of her pregnancy. She instantly smelled the freshness of breakfast cooking and decided to go to the kitchen and discovered Jane cooking eggs and bacon. She loved having someone to cook for her. He saw her instantly and gave her a welcome kiss. She smiled. "I am really getting used to this. You cooking breakfast. You really are going fill me up, I really am not going to fit in my clothes."
"I told you, I'm going to take care of you. You need to eat well. Remember not to skip lunch." Jane reminded. He took a plate and dished the eggs and bacon on the plate and then handed them to Lisbon. "Your breakfast is served, Mrs. Jane." She took the plate and sat down on the table and noticed the fork sitting there with a napkin. Jane then took a pitcher and poured orange juice into a glass. "Thank you."
"Are you ready for your appointment?" Jane asked as he dished out his own plate and poured his juice and sat down at the table and started eating.
"I guess so." Lisbon said unassuredly taking a drink of her one and only cup of coffee of the day. She was nervous for this first appointment even though Jane would be going with her.
Lisbon and Jane drove to the clinic for the appointment, they entered the building and Lisbon went up to the desk. "May I help you?" the receptionist asked and looked at Lisbon.
"I'm here for my appointment." Lisbon stated.
"Your name and birth date." The receptionist said.
"Yes, Teresa Lisbon, well Teresa Jane. I've gotten married since I was last here." Lisbon said and then gave her birth date. She was remembering the appointment she made confirming her pregnancy. It was during the week Jane had gone to Arizona to get away after Vega's funeral. She suspected she may be pregnant then since she was starting to get symptoms of tiredness, feeling a little nausea and being emotional. When she took the pregnancy test she bought at the store and saw the two pink lines, she instantly scheduled the appointment to confirm it. She had been so careful with taking her birth control but she realized there was one night she forgot. When she went to that appointment to confirm the pregnancy she made this follow-up appointment that day.
"Well, fill this out and update your name and address. Someone will call you when it's time." The receptionist explained handing Lisbon a clipboard with the form. Lisbon instantly went over to one of the few empty chairs in the clinic and took a seat. Jane joined her in the chair next to her as she filled the form out and then brought it back to the receptionist.
Jane and Lisbon were sitting in the waiting room of the clinic and Lisbon observed the many pregnant women waiting for their appointments. Most of them were in their 20s and 30s. She was very nervous for this appointment. An ultrasound was planned so they could see the baby. She kept silent and would look at Jane and he looked back. She would tap her hand on her knee nervously.
"I'm not a spring chicken." Lisbon remarked about her age and observing another young expectant mother walking into the waiting room.
"Well, of course you're not poultry. I see no feathers." Jane joked and grinning and observing Lisbon. Lisbon rolled her eyes at his remark and she hit him on the shoulder playfully.. He reacted. "Hey, what'd you do that for?" She was glad of Jane's presence and it relaxed her he was there and she wanted him to be part of these appointments as she knew he wanted to be involved as well.
"I'm serious, Patrick. I'm the oldest one here." Lisbon looked with a concerned face observing some of the younger women again. She felt out of place in this room.
"You'll be fine, Teresa. You're healthy and fit. You tackle bad guys daily. Well, obviously you won't do that much longer. You also have a loving husband who will take of you and make sure you eat right." Jane assured placing his hand on her shoulder and started to rub it.
She smiled at him briefly and then became worried again. "Maybe, I shouldn't have told people so soon. In case something is wrong." Lisbon admitted. As happy as she was for becoming a mother, she was also fearful for something being wrong because of her age. She thought about the possibility of a miscarriage and something being wrong with the baby.
"Nothing will go wrong." Jane reassured her again and this time took her hand. He had to admit he too was worried, but he didn't want to let his fear show to her. He wanted to be the reassurance she needed. "Remember to think on the positive side."
"You don't know that. There's a number of things that could happen. Aren't you nervous too?" Lisbon asked still worried.
"I'm a little nervous too, I admit but I'm going to be positive. Remember what we said before we married? We need to always look on the bright side." Jane admitted and then looked up observing the other women and men. "Teresa, every single one of these women are just as nervous as you are. A couple of them are expecting a second or third child. It doesn't matter how old they are, they're all nervous."
"You're right." Lisbon responded but then looked at the other women. "You know that how?" Lisbon asked. After all these years of knowing Jane, he still surprised her with his keen observation skills.
"I told you not to ask that when we're married." Jane grinned. "Okay, the woman across in the yellow is waiting for her boyfriend to show up." He whispered in Lisbon's ear. She looked over at the black haired woman in yellow he was referring and noticed her phone in her hand checking it.
"Ah, she's checking her phone every five seconds. How do you know it's a boyfriend?" Lisbon took note. She decided to play along with his observing, since it was distracting her from worry.
"Yes. She has no ring. The woman in the corner is expecting her third child and she's having marital problems." Jane whispered. Lisbon looked over at the woman in the corner with jeans and green top.
"How do you get that?" Lisbon asked.
"She's on edge and her husband's not here. I heard her say it's her third child." Jane whispered again.
A few minutes pass and a couple of the women were called. A nurse finally came out the door at the end. "Teresa Jane." Lisbon instantly got up, Jane followed.
"You are?" The nurse asked Jane looking at him as she opened up the door and went in a hall where all the doctor rooms were located along with the ultrasound room.
"Patrick, her husband and the father." Jane grinned proudly.
The nurse led them to a scale and had Lisbon stand on the scale to get weighed. The nurse recorded the number and then led them to the exam room with the ultrasound machine set up. The nurse instructed Lisbon to put on a gown and lay on the table. The technician, "We'll do the ultrasound first since I know you're quite full of water." She looked to Lisbon. Jane stood over the table and took Lisbon's hand. The technician "You must be Teresa. I'm Amber."
"Yes, I am. This is my husband, Patrick." Lisbon introduced Jane.
"Now this may feel cold." Amber said as she put a gel on Lisbon's stomach. She then took a wand and moved it around Lisbon's stomach. "So, is this your first baby?" Amber asked and then finally stopped.
"Yes." Lisbon responded back.
"This is your baby." Amber pointed to the screen and showed the small dot, which was the fetus. "That's our baby." Lisbon's eyes filled with tears and then looked up at Jane, standing over. Jane's eyes glistened with tears. "Our baby. I can't believe it, how can we be so lucky." Jane said not bothering to hide his obvious emotion. How did he get this second chance? A second chance at love. A second chance at being a father. A few years ago he wouldn't have imagined. He would've continued walking with his guilt and grief. Then Lisbon brought him out of it and gave him a reason to live again. He remembered her telling him "You would choose life." After all the death they had seen throughout years and the need for revenge, he realized this was the life he needed to overshadow the darkness. Thinking back to that fateful day he was glad he chose life.
"It does look like a peanut." Lisbon looked closer to the screen.
"It's our peanut." Jane responded smiling.
Amber smiled at the exchange, "Would you like a copy of that? I know it's not much yet, most couples collect each ultrasound of the growth progress."
"We would love it." Lisbon said smiling.
Dr. Barnes who would be Lisbon's doctor for the next few months came in and explained recommendations and what she would be looking for the next few months. She would need to keep the monthly appointments to look to see how the baby was growing and changing. She explained so far that everything looked good.
After they finished the appointment, the couple were still awestruck by their first view of their child. The technician provided two copies of the ultrasound for each of them. They went to lunch and then Lisbon decided to head back to the office and Jane decided to join her. They arrived to the bullpen floor and exited the elevator and the couple kept smiling. Wylie noticed them and instantly walked up to the excited couple.
"Hey, what are you two so happy about?" Wylie grinned then realized. "You don't have to say."
Jane looked to Lisbon asking permission to show the picture. She nodded a yes. Jane took his copy and held it up to Wylie. Wylie took a close look scrutinizing the image. "What is it?"
Jane took the photo and pointed to the bean sized fetus. "Our child." Jane grinned.
"Oh." Wylie stated. "It looks like a bean."
Soon Cho came out of the office with a tall dark haired man with glasses in his late 30s-early 40s. "Hello, Lisbon, Jane. This is Agent Jeremy Sanders from the Dallas office. He'll be helping out the next few months." Cho explained. Wylie then left to go back to his desk.
"Oh, hello, good to meet you." Lisbon shook the man's hand.
"Hello, you are Agent Lisbon, I presume. I've heard good things about you." Agent Sanders noted. "Your team revealed the Blake Association of corrupted cops in California."
"Yes, I am." Lisbon confirmed.
Jane observed the man. "You're strong willed and want to achieve great things in life. You also tend to be hard headed."
Sanders flinched at Jane's read of him but then recovered his composure. "Ah, you're the psychic Abbott hired." Sanders assumed. "The one that reads people."
"Not a psychic. People never learn." Jane shook his head. "There's no such thing." Sanders was taken aback by Jane's bluntness.
"Oh, this is my husband, Patrick Jane. He's a consultant." Lisbon introduced Jane.
"Ah, I've heard about you as well. You worked with Agent Lisbon in California taking down Blake and the serial killer, Red John." Sanders narrated. Cho kept standing near Agent Sanders.
"Yes, we did work together." Jane stated and turned to look at Lisbon.
"I'm impressed. I look forward to working in Austin. You'll be working too, Mr. Jane?"
"I'm down to part time now. So, you may not see me quite as much. I'm remodeling and building a house for Teresa and I."
"Well, nevertheless, I will look forward to working with you when I do." Agent Sanders said.
"Sanders be working in the field mostly." Cho finally spoke again. "Oh, we have a case."
Later on that night getting back to Lisbon's house and after eating dinner, they joined each other on the couch after having dinner they cooked together.
"What do you think of Agent Sanders?" Jane asked.
"He seems fine, I suppose. He seems like a good agent." Lisbon said teary-eyed.
"What's wrong?" Jane asked putting his hand on Lisbon's shoulder. He noticed the tears in her eyes. These will be long months with Lisbon being emotional. He remembered then meltdowns with Angela.
"It's just that it seems like I'm being replaced." Lisbon cried.
"You're not being replaced." Jane reassured rubbing Lisbon's shoulder.
"I won't be able to do anything but paperwork!"
"You can still be all tough and badass in interrogations. I believe that's more important to get suspects to break and confess."
"Look at me, I'm such a emotional mess. I don't do this, I don't cry for no reason." Lisbon pointed to herself. The one thing she discovered so far in her pregnancy that she didn't care for was being overly emotional. She didn't understand why she was so worried about the new agent coming. Normally, something like this wouldn't bother her so much. She decided she needed to deal with some of the symptoms. She was really happy overall because it meant Jane would be a father again, because he was really good with children, she had seen over the years. She knew he could never replace Charlotte and Angela and he would always miss knew he loved her deeply and would love their child just as much. One thing she would enjoy was Jane giving into all her needs. She had to admit she was looking forward to that part of being married and the pregnancy.
"You're my beautiful mess, Teresa." Jane reassured again. "It'll be fine. Is there anything I can get for you?"
Lisbon thought for a minute. This was her chance to take advantage of his willingness to serve her. "Peanut butter and banana sandwich." She was starting to crave foods and she had been craving that all day. She couldn't remember if they stocked those items in the kitchen.
"Ah, an Elvis favorite. At your service." Jane jumped up and went to the kitchen. He went to the cupboard and grabbed the peanut butter and then grabbed the bread. He grabbed a banana off the banana rack. The other day when he went to the grocery store, he had a feeling when he saw the peanut butter and bananas. He made the sandwich and then brought it back to the couch and handed it to Lisbon.
"Thank you." Lisbon smiled and took a bite of the sandwich. "Mmm, so good."
"Now remember we got to see our baby today." Jane smiled and placed his hand on her stomach.
"Yes, we did." Lisbon checked her phone and listened to her messages. "Tommy and Annie are coming in a couple of months." Lisbon smiled that her brother was coming to visit.
"Great, I look forward to it." Jane replied.
I know I'm making Lisbon worry, but for a first time pregnancy, I think she would worry. I think she would feel a bit down about not being able to do her full job and having another agent come in and taking over something she was so used to doing and that she loves kind of like what she felt at the end of Whites of His Eyes when Jane took her out.
As you can see at the end of this chapter and my last chapter, I plan to have Tommy and Annie come visit Jane and Lisbon since we didn't get to see Tommy and Annie in White Orchids. I'm excited to bring them in my story. I had this idea after I started this story. Feedback is really appreciated. It helps me to really get inspired to write the next chapter and update sooner.
