Lisbon and Annie arrived at the cabin to check on the guys working hard and they parked in the the small parking area. They had decided earlier at the cafe to order to go a couple of sandwiches for Jane and Tommy. Lisbon wasn't sure if they would get to have lunch. She decided to call Jane to find out.
"Hello, dear, how are you doing?" Jane answered
"Are you still hard at work?" Lisbon asked
"I am."
"Have you eaten?" Lisbon asked.
"No, we haven't, Teresa." Jane said.
"Annie and I bought you guys sandwiches. We're bringing them out."
"Those are always the magic words."
Back at the parking area, she and Annie took out the bags with the sandwiches and walked along the path along the pond to where the cabin. Annie followed along with her. "This is nice, Aunt Teresa. It's out in the open with nobody around. In Chicago, there are so many people. I'm used to it, but it's still nice to be away from them." They finally arrived at the cabin's entrance and instantly Jane opened the door and greeted them. "Hey, girls, how are you doing?" He looked at them.
Lisbon held out one sack and Annie held out another. "Your lunch is served." Lisbon said smiling.
"Such magic words." Jane grinned giving a Lisbon a quick peck on the lips. She returned with a short kiss as well. Lisbon blushed at the thought of Annie witnessing them kissing.
"You two are so cute. I would've loved to see your wedding kiss. Certainly that was more than a peck." Annie grinned looking at her aunt and uncle's display of affection.
"Of course. Your dad is still working hard inside, Annie." Jane said leading the two girls inside the cabin. The girls placed the bags the card table which Jane had used for breaks for had bought the table and bought a couple of fold out chairs to go with the table. Inside they found Tommy finishing up placing the boards on the wall. He noticed the girls. "Hey, how was your day?"
"It was good. Got to see where Teresa works and we did some baby shopping." Annie said excitedly. "And we did a lot of talking."
"That's good, you spend time with your aunt, Annie." Jane admitted.
"Oh, and she told about your romantic grand gesture." Annie swooned.
"Oh, really, she told you that." Jane answered embarrassed. .
"Tommy, lunch!" Jane called. Tommy came out and sat down at the small table and Jane sat down as well. They opened the sacks with the sandwiches and started eating.
After finishing their lunch they took the girls around to show what they had worked on. Jane also showed Annie the other two rooms he finished. "Oh, this is really nice! With the ducks in the pond and nature all around. I can't wait to see when it is finished!" Annie exclaimed excitedly.
Later that night all four went out to enjoy a meal out at one of the local pizza places in Austin. Then later they all went back to Lisbon's house to relax. Annie and Tommy wanted to watch TV a while around 10:00P.M. down in the living room while Jane and Lisbon decided to go ahead and go to bed.
Jane and Lisbon were getting ready for bed and they both dressed in their pajamas. Lisbon stepped carefully into the right side of the bed and laid down. It was getting a little harder for her to get in and out of bed and she knew it was going to be more difficult. She enjoyed her day with her niece and it seemed like Jane enjoyed working with Tommy. She was hoping they would be alright together. She felt Jane get on the left side.
"Annie has grown up so much." Lisbon recalled. "Tommy has such a great girl." Lisbon noticed Jane was staying silent and there were a glisten of tears in his eyes. She looked at him not sure why he was emotional, but then remembered when he spoke. "Charlotte would be her age."
She felt bad not remembering about Charlotte. That was right. Charlotte was 6 when she died and it had been 13 years since they had met. She couldn't even begin to know what it was like to lose a child. She had heard some people say it was the worst pain parents felt having to bury their child. It was tough to lose her parents.
"Oh, I'm sorry." Lisbon said not sure exactly how to answer.
Jane then turned to face her. "Annie is great. Charlotte never had a chance to grow up, go to college. Will our child have a chance?"
"Of course, the baby will." Lisbon answered trying to be as positive as possible. She didn't know how to comfort him at this point thinking of Charlotte. She knew times like these would come up.
"I'll fail being a parent like I did with Charlotte." Jane said sadly.
"No, you won't. You didn't. You loved her. You'll be a great father." Lisbon took his hand and placed it on her belly. "This baby will be honored to have you as his or her father."
"I never thought I would have this again, being happy, having a family with you and the baby. Even with your brothers and their families. I don't deserve this."
"Yes, you do. We've been through so much together. This future is ours."
"I'm sorry for being such a downer. I can't help thinking of Charlotte when I see Annie. I know I need to follow our words to look on the bright side."
"It's fine. You know what, I'm scared too of being a mother. I don't know what to do. Shopping with Annie at the store, there's so much to get. I'm terrified I'll do something wrong."
"We can be terrified together. You're going to be a great mother."
The next day Annie Lisbon decided she wanted to go back to the FBI. She decided that her aunt would eventually need a baby shower. She knew she would need the necessities for the baby. She wondered if anybody at the FBI would give her one. Even though, Teresa didn't say she wanted one, Annie felt she needed to do something to celebrate her aunt and uncle's child. She would decide to start with Cho, but first she would have to get to the building.
"Aunt Teresa, I want to go back to the FBI building." Annie stated
"You do? I suppose that can be arranged, Annie." Lisbon answered wondering why her niece wanted to go back.
"I'll take her, Teresa." Jane offered. "I need to tell Cho something anyway."
Jane and Annie went into the SUV and drove towards the FBI building.
"You have a gleam in your eye, Annie." Jane said looking from the side at his niece. "You have a plan."
"How'd you know?" Annie surprised asked looking at Jane.
"When I'm your uncle, you won't get too much past me. Of course, your aunt has surprised me a time or two." Jane admitted grinning as he turned down the street.
"I want to talk to Cho." Annie stated.
"About being a cop?" Jane looked briefly to Annie as he finally turned in the parking lot at the FBI building. "No, it's something else."
"Oh, I could ask about being a cop too! I could get some pointers. " Annie exclaimed and then she continued. "Aunt Teresa said you haven't gotten anything for the baby." Annie admitted.
"No,we haven't . We need to, I know. They keep calling me in for cases and I've been busy on the cabin. You want to talk to Cho about that?" Jane figured out.
"Yes." Annie admitted.
"You're going to ask Cho to be in charge of a baby shower. Jane grinned. "I want to see that."
"Yes. He's your friend. And you and Teresa can't do it. You're the parents and parents can't plan it." Annie explained knowingly. "I would plan it, but I'm not sure when I will be back."
"You can ask him. I don't how he'll respond to your request. I suppose he did help Teresa choose her wedding dress. He's a man of many talents, so you never know what Cho Business is going to do."
"I asked her if she had anybody going to do it and she said no"
They soon arrived in the bullpen after coming off the elevator. Cho came up to Jane. "Good to see you, Jane. Annie." Cho looked at them. "How's the cabin coming?
" Good. Getting the rooms nearly done for living. Annie wants to talk to you." Jane said.
"What can I do for you?" Cho asked. Jane instantly went to his couch and sat down watching from there.
Wylie looked up from his computer at his desk in the bullpen curious about Annie's questions to Cho.
"I wanted to ask some questions about being a cop and ask about something else."
"Okay. What do you want to know?"
"Why did you want to be a cop?" Annie asked seriously.
"To do something good. I like helping people."
"Is there anything you didn't expect?"
"Well, I never expected to work with your uncle. I was by the book and then Jane came along and we saw different ways to investigate. Some not so by the book. I've learned to accept other methods such as your uncle's." Cho answered looking towards Jane.
"What is the most rewarding part of the job?" Annie asked.
"Are you ever afraid in a case?"
"Sometimes."
"Well, when we can reunite someone with their family. A young woman wanted me to help her find her sister during a human trafficking case last year. It was a good feeling when we were able to reunite them." Cho smiled.
"That's really cool."
"Annie, you have good questions." Cho responded. "Keep on asking the good questions."
"I have one more question, but it's about something else."
"Yes, go on."
"I know you'll think I'm crazy." Annie stated. "I think my aunt and uncle should have a baby shower."
"And you want me to help you plan it." Cho stated seriously.
"Yes." Annie grinned.
"I don't know about that, Wylie you want this job." Cho looked to Wylie stating it seriously.
"Why not? Cool. I'd do it." Wylie excitedly said. "I did enjoy kind of planning you and Lisbon's wedding dinner at Abbott's house." Wylie said looking towards Jane.
"My aunt said she doesn't have anyone to do it. I would but I live in Chicago and am going to college. She did say she didn't want one, but I think she should have one. "
"You know I sort of helped with my friend's shower. I didn't know his wife too well. We didn't call it a baby shower. I named it the Practical Parent Party. That way both parents were involved and the name doesn't sound so feminine."
"Ooh, that's a good name for it!" Annie exclaimed. "Use that. Maybe I could help from afar." Annie noticed a Post-It note on Wylie's desk and a pen. She picked up the pen and leaned down to write on pad. She grabbed the sheet she wrote on. "Here's my phone number." She gave the little note to Wylie.
"Okay, Annie, I will call about planning it." Wylie said smiling. "This will be kind of fun."
Jane said what he needed to say to Cho as well, and soon Annie and Jane left the FBI Headquarters and headed back to the car. "So, Wylie's going to plan the shower?"
"Yes, he is and I will help. I know she said she didn't want one."
"She doesn't mean it. She says she doesn't want to do something but she wants it. You have my permission. It's nice you want to do something for your aunt. At first we didn't want anything big for our wedding but when our good friends and your uncles came we loved having them there to witness our marriage. We got married in front of our cabin and Teresa was so beautiful!" Jane smiled remembering that day. Did Teresa tell you?"
"No, she didn' sounds so romantic! Oh, how I wished I could've come."Annie exclaimed and then was sad.
"Like I said before, it's important that you're here now and it's an honor to be your uncle." Jane said..
It was a couple days later on the night before Tommy and Annie would leave sat at the kitchen table nursing a beer. Lisbon came in with her water and she sat down. "Are you getting all packed tomorrow for the flight?"
"We pretty much are ready."
"Tommy, I really appreciate you coming. It's been good. Patrick appreciates the help."
"Yeah, Sis. I'm glad I came. I like Patrick. He's real. He's not perfect, but he loves you. Really nobody's perfect. We're all people. Heck, I'm certainly not perfect."
"I know I'm not perfect. Our brothers aren't perfect either but we all need each other.
"You're right, I should talk to them more."
"I sometimes think of dad."
"Yeah, what about him?"
"He was in so much pain. It was so hard for him to lose mom. She was his wife. He loved her so much. I don't blame him for being in so much pain. He couldn't cope. He needed another way but drinking was all he had to deal with his grief. He couldn't be the father he needed to be for us.
"I can see your point, sis. I thank you for being there. You were so strong then. I wish dad could've seen a way out of that grief."
"I can sort of see dad's view now. Patrick lost his wife and daughter in the most brutal way possible. He's dealt with so much. He's dealt with so much pain. His way to cope was finding his family's killer and I helped. It's always going to be there, I know that, but he's come so far since I've met him."
"I'm so happy for both of you. You have each other and that's important. I realize it's time to make amends and just appreciate life and and don't hold grudges. I will try my best to care for Annie. I will try to talk to Stan and Jimmy."
"Thank you, Tommy. I'm proud of you and Annie."
"And Teresa, don't be afraid to call me. Just because you're the oldest you don't have to take care of us. We take can take care of you. We can take care of each other."
Lisbon's eyes started to tear up as her brother spoke. This was the most emotional talk she had with Tommy. He looked at her and smiled.
"Stupid pregnancy hormones. Thanks Tommy." Lisbon said wiping her eyes with her hand. The brother and sister hugged. "Don't forget to send a picture of that little one when it arrives." Tommy pointed to Lisbon's belly.
"Of course, I will. I love you, Tommy."
