Author's Note: Sorry for the wait, school started for me and it has been taking up my time. Plus I haven't been feeling good lately. Anyway this was going to be one chapter but I decided to split it up. Now there has been a time skip, you'll figure out how much time has passed. I tried hard and hope you like it. Enjoy.
Chapter 17: First Contract Part 1
Silence filled the long, dim, hallway as no one seemed to be in it. Various closed doors at both side, as both eyes looked from the shadows of the corner at the end of the hall. No one knew he was there and now it was the perfect time to move.
Moving with grace, Donatello left the shadows as he walked down the hall, keeping low. Not even a creak came as he moved across the hall, his footsteps made no sound; just like a ghost. Both eyes scanned the room numbers, trying to find the one he'd been instructed to find.
Don's breathing hitched as he picked up footsteps, ones that got louder with each second. Someone is heading his way. Quickly thinking the olive green turtle faced the wall and started to run up it. Getting up high enough he then quickly turned and planted his hands on the opposite side, keeping himself suspended up in the air.
Luckily he did it just in time because a random worked entered the hallway and passed right underneath him. Good thing he wasn't above a light so his shadow won't be casted. Both eyes watched as he moved down further and then entered one of the rooms.
Don waited a few seconds after to just be sure then released and silently landed on his feet. "Too easy," he smirked as he moved further down the hall, turning and keeping his eyes peeled on the doors. After a few seconds of walking he stopped right in front of the door he was looking for. Reaching for the handle he's about to turn but stopped, hesitation coming to him.
"Better think smarter," he said to himself, reaching down to his belt. There was a small pouch and large satchel there. Don started to carry more things with him now. Reaching into the satchel he pulled out a PDA that had a long cable attached to it. Grabbing the cable he then fed it underneath the door before turning the device on.
It took a second to power up but then the screen lit up, showing camera feed of the room inside. He saw three people inside, each sitting down at a desk, backs facing one another, doing things. Bad news is that one of them is facing the door, so if it opened he would be seen.
Turning the PDA off and pulling the cable out he placed them back in the satchel. He would need a better approach, then it clicked into his mind.
Inside the room the three men worked on their assigned projects. Two of them were typing on their computers why one was writing things down. For some reason they seemed nervous, every now and then they would make a mistake and stumble to fix it. It was like they knew something but didn't want to let it show.
Unbeknownst to them one of the ceiling panels quietly slid open and swiftly a figure dropped in, not making a sound at all. Donny stayed crouched as his eyes locked on with the worker in front of him. Slowly he approached his target, not making a sound at all, or casting a shadow. He moved till he was just right behind the guy.
In a swift move Don covered the guy's mouth and before he could make a sound the olive green turtle punched inward at the gall bladder, and like that the guy fell limp, knocked out. Acting fast Don grabbed a pen out from a hold and pressed it against the guy's neck.
It was then a buzzer went off, which made Don let the guy go and stand up. The other two workers got up and turned to look at Don, surprised at his work. Soon the door opened and Shredder entered the room, a pleased expression on his face.
"Get him out of here, you three are dismissed," he spoke, watching as the two nodded and went to pick up their colleague. Two sets of eyes were on them as the three left the room, the door closing on their way out.
Once they were alone Don got down and sat on his legs, hands resting on his knees and head bowed. He waited for his mentor to say something about his performance today. To the turtle things gone smooth, he wasn't detected, he didn't alert anyone, and he got his target. There wasn't anything negative about his performance.
"You did well Junko," Oroku praised the turtle. "You did far better than the last. You have improved a great deal these six months."
"Thank you…sensei," Don spoke.
Six more months had passed since Shredder started to train Don, and there has been a huge difference. First off Don's fighting skills seemed to have improved a huge notch. He spared against a bunch of Foot ninjas and could take a bunch of them without breaking a sweat. His stealth skills were finely tuned and now could hide mostly anywhere.
One of the most noticeable thing about Donny is his appearance. He has more muscle on him, making his arms and legs looking bigger, almost Raph's size. That was due to Shredder putting the turtle through various strength exercises that increase his muscle mass. It was the hardest four months of the turtle's life, but it paid off.
Donny looked up at Shredder in confusion, legs shaking, and arms being pulled straight down. Wrapped securely around his wrist and legs were weights, the approximate mass undetermined since he wasn't told how much. It had been ten days since his training started and Shredder said they were going to do something new.
"What's with these?" the turtle asked his mentor.
Oroku looked at the turtle, neutral expression on his face. "The next part of your training will start, as I look at you I see that you don't have enough muscle on you, so we will be doing strength exercises."
"But how-"
Donny was cut off. "The amount you're holding is twenty pounds each. You will train with them and will keep them on until you get used to them, then I'll increase the weight."
"But I can hardly move!" he complained.
"You'll get used to it, and also this will stay on till further notice," Shredder then moved to a table that was set up in the dojo, which held the weights. The one thing left on there was some kind of large vest. Picking it up Oroku moved closer to the turtle and then placed it over his head. Once it rested on his shoulders Donny automatically felt pressure in his thighs and abs. The added weight making hard to stand.
"What is that?"
"It's a plate vest, it'll help with your exercises." Don opened his mouth but his trainer stopped him. "And don't say you can't move, you will be training with these, now perform the kata I taught you." He stepped back, giving the turtle some room.
"B-but I can hardly move my limbs."
"Do it, you'll get used to it."
Donny remained silent, grunting some he tried to pull his hands up, arms shaking and threatening to give out. He then sluggishly threw a punch but the weight propelled him forward, causing him to fall on his knee. He let out a huge breath of air, already the wind was nearly knocked out of him. "I can't…too much weight."
Oroku sighed as he walked forward and kneeled before him. "You can do it, it just takes some adjusting, don't quit."
The olive green turtle grunted as he was helped back to his feet, legs shaking under the weight. Both of his eyes watched as Shredder walked back and instructed him to do it again. Donny didn't want to but his mentor is encouraging him, and he couldn't stop. So nodding he tried it again once more. He punched again, but this time he stumbled but managed to stop himself from falling. Freezing in place for a second he took a chance to get his breathing under control before doing it once more.
"Keep going Junko," Oroku encouraged more. "Remember, pull back quickly after your punch."
Don nodded as he got back into stance, this time he would get it. And the other times after he'll try to get the kata down and adjust to the weights.
Don's head shook as the memory washed away, he was thankful that time passed. But yet in the end it was worth it. In a few weeks he started noticing that his muscles were getting bigger and tougher, his attacks were stronger. Slowly his training started to make him stronger and when he was finally able to take the weights off he found that he's a lot faster than before. The muscles in his legs were powerful, and could propel him forward much more than before.
All in all he had to be thankful for all the training, since he felt a lot more confidant in his skills. He could fight better and know he would come out on top. Even if wearing all those weights were a pain. Even when he started to get used to them his sensei would always increase the amount of weight he had to carry, just to be sure he would be kept on his toes at all times. When it came to taking the weights off, he definatly saw some results.
Sweat dropped down Donny's body as his breathing was heavy. He and his mentor were the only ones in the dojo as the turtle was being instructed in what to do. Heavier weights were locked onto his wrists and legs as he stood in place, in a fighting stance.
"Again," Shredder instructed.
Nodding the olive green turtle performed the kata he was told to do. It was sloppy but he managed to pull it off despite the added weight. he wasn't stumbling, having trouble holding his limbs up, or complaining. He flew by it as fast as he could, his breathing increasing with every movement. Throwing a straight right punch Donny completed the kata, remaining in stance till he was told otherwise.
"You may relax," Oroku told his pupil.
Don said as he sat down on the floor, head bowed as he heard his mentor approching him. He remained silent, waiting to hear what his sensei had to say.
Oroku looked down at the tired turtle, both eyes seeing the sweat on him as well hearing his silent pants. He had been working hard, putting more energy into it because of the weights. Still he did a lot better than expected, and that's something to be proud about. "You did every well Junko, you managed to adjust to the weights and not let them overwhelm you."
"Thank you sensei," Don bowed, enjoying the praise he recieved.
"It has been over four months since you started using then, and today I feel proud in saying this...take them off."
That made Don's head jerk up upon hearing that, "A-Are you sure?"
A nod was the response, "Yes, it is time to see the results. Now, take the weights off."
If one thing he was told it was to never take off the weights. From day one he was told to keep them on no matter what, and that was hard to incorperate in his daily life. Plus the looks he got from others that saw him wearing them. But that's the price he had to pay in order to get the full effect of his training. And over the next few months he saw the results.
He would look at himself in the mirror and see that his muscles got bigger and more toned. The weights, in his mind got lighter, making it easier for him to move around in. Training got easier, and he was able to do exercise better than before, all the while wearing the weights.
So it was a big shock to hear that he was allowed to take them off, finally after so long this part of his training was done with. Standing up Don bent down and unstrapped the leg weights, watching them fall flat on the floor with a heavy thump. Right then and there his legs felt weightless, almost like they were floating.
'Wow...weird,' he thought to himself.
He then reached to his arms and unstrapped the weights on there, they fell to the ground with a much heavier thump. The same feeling in his legs could be felt in his arms now, but yet he could feel the power his arms now had, shocking the turtle even more. Reaching up he then unstrapped the vest and with a bit of difficulty he slowly pulled it up and tossed it a couple feet away, the same thump being heard.
It was then the same weightless feeling could be felt, but for his whole body. "Whoa," he said to himself as he then threw a punch, surprised to see his strike a lot faster than before, but he fell forward. Luckily Shredder caught him.
"What happened?" Don asked. It was like he lost his balance real easily.
"With the weights off your balance is off as well, don't worry you'll get used to it," Shredder helped Don back up.
Once back up Don stayed in place but then took a step forward only to stumble, being caught again.
"We are done for today, take the time to get used to your new weight," Oroku said, which Don nodded.
Don shook the memory away, even though it was one to remember. He discovered the new skills he possessed and he liked it a lot. It took a couple of days to regain his footing but he managed to adjust to his new weight. He soon found out that he was like paper, really light and his strength increased. He had a field day when that happened. "What now sensei?"
Oroku smiled at the title his protégé said. The turtle had recently started to address him as his sensei, a sign that he's showing respect to him, which is what he wanted. He didn't want to admit it but he now started to see the potential in Dr. Adam's plan, and he was liking it. All the training that he gave the turtle, and all the knowledge Dr. Adam's instilled into him, the turtle maybe ready.
"Junko, it may be time for your first contract," Oroku said to the turtle, which caused a surprise face to appear on his student's face.
"You…you really think so?" Donny knew what his teacher was talking about. Heck he knew what the true purpose of his training was for a month already, and he was ok with it. At first he felt appalled at the purpose he was being trained, but Shredder cleared things up, addressing that it was necessary.
Don sat on the dojo floor, upper body bowed down before his sensei, fear instilled in his as he was about to ask something. "Sensei…I've been thinking."
"And what may that be Junko?" Oroku asked as he stood before his pupil.
Donny was hesistatint, he knew his questions could get him in trouble and he didn't want that, but he had to know. So taking a few breaths he let it all out. "I've noticed all the lessons you've been giving me…and all the text that Dr. Adams made me read…learning about medicine…vital parts of the body, pressure points…And you teaching me about stealth…and hiding." He looked up, looking right into Shredder's eyes as fear gripped him once more. "It…it sounds like…you're training me to kill."
Right as those words left his mouth, an errie silence filled the dojo, none of them making a sound at all. This worried Don at lot, thinking he may have made a mistake. But soon it disappeared once Shredder sighed.
"I figured you would have found that out sooner or later."
"So…it's true?" the turtle responded in shock, not believing what he heard. Some pain hitting him as the truth settled in. The one person he trusted was teaching him how to kill and he wasn't informed of it.
"Yes, but I should let you know that this is with good reason."
"Why?!" Don shouted, getting to his feet as anger coursed through him. "What would prompt you to teach me how to kill!? Why the deception, why the secrets!?"
"Because you wouldn't have agreed to this if you were told the truth," Shredder responded, not fazed by the anger, or mad at the outburst.
"Of course I wouldn't! Why would I want to kill!?" Don threatening moved closer, anger building more.
"Because you have the potential to great at it," he stood his ground, keeping a cool demeanor. "Tell me that with your skills and knowledge that you wouldn't be great at it."
"No…I wouldn't…" Donny's anger slowly started to disappear, but then he started to think about it. What Shredder said made sense, he really did have the knowledge and skills to do this but he couldn't. Breathing heavily he fell to his knees. "I…I…can't kill…again," his head hung as he said that.
He looked up as he felt comforting hands resting on his shoulder, seeing Shredder kneeling down in front of him. "But this is different, you wouldn't be killing innocent people."
"Wh…What do you mean?" Don's breath hitched as he heard this.
"There are bad people out there, ones who only care about themselves and no one else," Shredder then helped his student to his feet, still looking him in the eye.
"What do you mean?"
"There are people out there who are a threat to not only me, but too many innocent people out there. Men, women, children. They do so much illegal things and yet no one stops them."
"But, wouldn't the police stop them?" Donny retorted, thinking that this explanation may be asinine.
Shredder shook his head, "Unfortunately these people are rich, the cops won't touch them because of their status. So they won't even lift a finger to stop them, they just slap them on the wrist and that's that."
"So…they just get away with anything?" Don couldn't believe what he was hearing, having trouble trying to believe it.
"Yes, since no one wants to do anything about it, we have to take measures to take them out of the picture, permanently."
Don stepped back, too shocked at what he heard. "B-But…why me? Why do I have to be the one to do all this?"
"Because I don't trust my own men to do these contracts," Shredder put it in those terms. "My men can easily be bought out, but you have no desire for money. You uphold honor in the strictest of ways, better than all my men combine."
The olive green turtle shook his head, having trouble trying to process this, "But…it's murder, it's wrong."
"Is it wrong to let corrupted individuals to get away with the crimes and not get punish for it? Is it wrong to let them continue to hurt others for their own need? You have to do this, if not for me, but for all those innocents that don't stand a chance?" Shredder placed his hands on Don's shoulders.
Donny is stunned by this, still can't believe all that was thrust at him, but yet it did make sense. There were a bunch of corrupted people out there and no one stopped them. And now Shredder is trusting him to do this task for him, to help others in need. This was a lot to take in, but still Shredder is asking him to do so. "What do we do now?"
"But…are you sure that I'm ready?" Don asked as he was motioned to rise.
"Yes, you've trained hard these last three months, and studied hard. And this last exercise proves that you are ready for this," Oroku gave a comforting smile. "I'm so proud at the progress you made, you've become someone I can depend on."
"Uh…thanks," Don smiled, enjoying the praise he received. That was another thing he loved most of all during his training. Whenever the turtle would do something good he would be praised at it. Even if he made a mistake he would be corrected and not be scolded at all. That was something that he enjoyed, which prompted him to do better. "But I'm not sure if I am."
"Do you question your sensei?" Oroku asked with his usual neutral face.
"No, no…I just…I don't…" Donny had trouble answering, in mind he wasn't ready, but physically he was. He just had trouble at the concept of actually killing someone. His first kill still haunting him, and he didn't want to picture what taking another life would do it him.
"You'll be fine, I have faith in you. And believe me, you'll be heavily rewarded if you manage to complete this," Without hearing a response Oroku then moved over to one of the desks and opened one of the drawls. Pulling out a manila folder he then tossed it at Don, who hastily caught it without anything falling out. "Your first contract is in there, you have as much time as you need."
A/N: Hope you like, I tried hard and hope you like it. I think it was time the training ended and Don gets to the real thing. The mission will take place in the next chapter. I thank those who stuck around. Till next time.
