Chapter 16

I have to admit I was quite nervous writing this chapter. A lot of my pregnancy information throughout this story comes from BabyCenter and not from personal experience. I didn't put every single detail.

Disclaimer:Don't Own Anything

A few weeks later after moving into their new house, Lisbon was feeling the urge to clean. She was never a huge clean freak. Sure, she kept her house neat enough, but she never went crazy. The baby was growing and her belly had gotten bigger from a couple weeks ago. She was now in the ninth month. It was still hard to believe she and Jane were expecting a baby. She never thought this would happen to her, have a family and now it was real. At 1:00p.m. she and Jane had just finished their noon meal. She took a duster and started dusting all the furniture and the counters. She straightened up the pillows on the couch. She went in the bedroom and remade the bed even though it was already made. She also decided to go in the nursery and fold the baby clothes she had gotten from the baby shower. She also purchased some on her own. She organized diapers and put inside cupboard the changing table. Then folded up blankets as well. She straightened up the inside of the drawers and started taking out the silverware and neatly putting them back in the right places.

Jane soon came in the kitchen and grinned at the scene of his wife cleaning and organizing. It was time he knew, that they would welcome their child into the world. His memory of Angela cleaning and organizing the same exact way quickly entered his mind. Like Teresa, Angela ambitiously tried to clean the house in its entirety and even double or triple the times it needed. Several hours later, Charlotte was born. Lisbon noticed his big Cheshire cat grin. "What are you looking at?"

He laughed, "Nothing." He continued to smile as she continued taking out the plates and stacking them again and putting them back in the cupboard. She wiped the table with a towel again. She sneaked a peek at Jane again just smiling at her.

"Why are you watching me?" Lisbon asked confused. What on earth was he doing watching her? Why didn't he come help her? They had to have the house clean.

"You're cleaning and straightening things that are already clean and organized. You've made the bed three times in the last 10 minutes. You've organized the drawer at least five times since we got done eating." Jane said laughing going up to Lisbon closer. "You folded the baby's clothes several times too."

"So, is there anything wrong with wanting the house clean and organized?" Lisbon said a little offended. She stopped what she was doing and glared at her husband.

"Of course not." Jane gave her a sweet kiss. " I love that you're so efficient and very thorough. But I know exactly what's going on here-you're nesting. Angela did the exact same thing before she went into labor with Charlotte, if you don't mind me mentioning." Jane admitted.

"No. So you think it's going to happen tonight?"Lisbon raised her eyebrow up wondering if he knew something.

"Yes, I believe you're going to have the baby tonight."Jane admitted placing his hand on Lisbon's belly. "Right, baby?" and talked to her belly.

"Okay?"Lisbon raised her eyebrow in question again. "I haven't felt any contractions yet." Lisbon confessed.

"You will. I have a feeling." Jane grinned.

"Okay, I'm not going to question that." Lisbon admitted remembering when Jane had said not to question him and his readings and guesses after they were married. "How come you didn't stop me before now?"

"I was enjoying watching you far too much." Jane grinned.

"Why didn't you volunteer to help?" Lisbon asked agitated.

"And incur your wrath of you telling me I'm in your way and that you can do it yourself." Jane smirking.

"Fine. I'd probably do that. You can't possibly know when a woman's going to go into labor?" Lisbon questioned.

"Not the exact time. It's happened before. When I was on the island, I saw a pregnant woman and her husband, I told them I had a feeling they were having their baby that night. I heard the next day they had it that night." Jane explained.

"Are you sure you're not a little psychic?" Lisbon questioned.

"No, it's just the same thing I've been doing, observing and reading emotions."
"We'll see if you're right." Lisbon said. "I feel like I'm going to explode anytime. I hope I'm having the baby soon."

"You are close to the due date." Jane said.

Sure enough, 10 minutes later, Lisbon started early contractions. She wasn't quite ready to go to the hospital, but they were starting. "They've started now, Patrick." So, she and Jane went to sit down and relax. They stayed a few minutes talking.

"See, I told you. Tell me when they get closer together." Jane admitted.

"They're far apart now." Lisbon said. "You were right."

"I'm sorry, Teresa about worrying about daycare. It's normal, I know that we need to have the option. Whenever you have a big case you absolutely need me, we can take the baby to a daycare. I will personally set up if you want me to." Jane agreed.

"Alright, Patrick. It sounds good. I do love that you want to be a good and present father, that's great. I'm sure you'll get to a point where you need a break too." Lisbon admitted to her husband.

"I know, maybe I will, but I just want to be there, to protect our child unlike I didn't with Charlotte." Jane confessed.

"And we will protect her or him. We don't have to get it figured out at once, since it'll be awhile before I go back to work." Lisbon stated.

Lisbon grabbed her prepared bag of necessities to go to the hospital and set them by the door. She knew in a few hours, it would be time to go to the hospital, but right now they would relax, watch TV, and talk as they awaited the next step.

"I'll be right back. I'm going to call somebody." Jane said four hours later at 6:00. Jane went in the other room and called. She didn't know who he would possibly be calling now, but she wouldn't worry about it. Jane prepared some sandwiches on a tray and came back in the room. He told her they wouldn't cook a huge meal, since they were getting ready for the baby to come. They quickly ate at the table and it was still light out and she knew she had read it was a good idea to walk and talk through the contractions. "Maybe I should walk around." Lisbon said noticing through the window it was still light out carefully starting to get up.

"I'll walk with you." Jane said as he followed Lisbon. He opened the door for her and helped her out the door and she put her arm around his arm. They started walking around the flat path Jane had made a few feet from the house. "Let's talk about the good times."

"What good times?" Lisbon asked confused.

"At the CBI. I wasn't revenge crazed all the time during that time. We had a lot of good times together." Jane admitted.

"Okay, I'll remember. Do you remember when we first danced?" Lisbon grinned.

"Of course, I would never forget that moment. You were actually pleased I asked you." Jane said.

"I don't know about that." Lisbon teased trying to relax while having another contraction.

"I saw your grin." Jane grinned.

"You also started a brawl during the reunion." Lisbon reminded.

"It was a cathartic brawl. People needed to let their pent up emotions from high school out, I guess." Jane admitted. "All I did was tell the guy to tell his bully how he felt. I guess he wanted to punch the guy."

"Sure."Lisbon rolled her eyes at the memory.

"Didn't you love it when we waited in close proximity for suspects at times?" Jane grinned.

"You mean when we waited under the coffin, in the morgue, at the house?" Lisbon asked recalling the memories.

"Yes, didn't you enjoy being so close to me?" Jane grinned.

"You mean when we were either cramped, freezing, or when my legs fell asleep?" Lisbon complained and wincing feeling another contraction.

"Don't tell me you didn't enjoy those stakeouts?" Jane asked looking at his wife, making sure she was doing alright walking. "I enjoyed it so much, being close to you. At the time, I did, I'm not lying." Jane said.

"Fine. I enjoyed those stakeouts. It was fun pretending we were Scandinavian and tricking that lady thinking she was drugged." Lisbon admitted.

"That was fun. What about being locked in the crate? I told you I would always save you whether you like it or not. I've done that." Jane recalled.

"And I said the day I signed on with you I knew would end in disaster." Lisbon putting her hand on her stomach.

"Now you're married to me and having our baby." Jane smiled. "So, it's not too much a disaster."

"I suppose I could call it a good disaster." Lisbon teased. "Oh, God." She noticed the contractions getting more painful and getting closer together. "We have to go to the hospital now!"

They headed back to the house at 7:00pm and Jane helped his wife along as she continued having contractions and yelling. They arrived at the house to see Cho waiting. "Cho, what are doing you here?" Lisbon breathing a little heavily.

"Jane called me." Cho admitted.

Jane and Lisbon went inside the house, grabbed her packed bag of necessities and right then Lisbon's water broke. "I need to get to the hospital. Oh, God!" She yelled, feeling another contraction. They instantly went to Cho's car. Cho got in the driver's seat and Jane and Lisbon got in the back seat. Jane was actually nervous. He knew the baby was healthy, but he still worried. Their last doctor appointment confirmed that. He worried about Lisbon getting through the labor. He knew he wouldn't be thinking straight when Lisbon would go into labor and he didn't want to be the one driving. He wanted to focus on her rather then the road. That was the reason he called and he recalled calling the agent and good friend.

"Hey, Cho, you're not busy with protecting the innocent and catching bad guys, are you?" Jane said nervously.

"Actually, no, it's been fairly slow this week." Cho said. Cho realized Jane was nervous about something and he never was nervous about anything. He always had confidence in whatever he was doing.

"Teresa's starting contractions. They're far apart now, but could you come over and when it's time and drive us to the hospital."

"You mean be your chauffeur?"

"Yes, basically. I don't think I can drive. I'm nervous and I'm afraid I won't think straight." Jane said shakily.

"Of course, I'll be there."

"We may be walking around the house to relax. We'll be there. Thank you." Jane finished.

"AAHH! I hate you, Jane!" Lisbon screamed as she came into another contraction. For a second she remained calm. "I'm sorry, Patrick for yelling, I really am."

"No, problem." Jane said. "Relax, honey. Listen to my voice."

"Are you hypnotizing her?" Cho asked from the driver's seat. Cho smiled hearing the scene

"Just trying to relax her."

"I hate you, Jane! I hate you! This is all your fault!" Lisbon screamed again having another contraction. "A gunshot wound is less painful than this!"

"I'm sorry, Patrick for yelling. I do love you" Lisbon looked at Jane apologized again.

"It's fine, dear. We'll be there soon." Jane said putting his hand on her back and rubbing it.

On the rest of way to the hospital, it became a cycle of Lisbon yelling she hated Jane after her contractions and screaming and then apologizing to him calling him Patrick after she was done. Jane didn't really take offense to it at all, Cho realized as if Jane expected it. Of course, Jane had gone through it before. Jane just kept trying to relax his wife by rubbing her back. Cho found it humorous hearing it from the driver's seat. He was very happy for his former boss and the consultant, that they could find happiness with each other in their marriage, and now their soon to be born child. Their wedding proved their happiness and even more Jane's happiness. Sure, maybe at first he didn't realize how much they meant to each other and Abbott had to spell it out for him. How could he not notice such a strong bond between the two through the years? He knew Jane was upset when Lisbon was dating Pike. It sometimes was apparent on his face. Sure, he might've ignored what really was going on, because he didn't want to get involved, like the day Fischer asked what Jane thought of Pike and Lisbon dating. "If I did, my head would explode."He didn't want to worry about people's personal lives, it was their business not his. He supposed something happened with them on the airplane he knew Jane stopped. Obviously, something did, because Lisbon all of a sudden came back and decided to stay in Austin. He just didn't pay attention, but he knew their relationship the night of the team celebration, the one before the unfortunate death of Michelle Vega.

Finally Cho pulled up to the entrance of the emergency room at the Seton Medical Center, Jane nervously and immediately got out and opened the door for Lisbon helping her get out.
"I can get out myself." Lisbon said. "I'm not an invalid!" She glared at him.

"Of course,you can." Jane said.

"Jane, I don't envy you." Cho said from the car. Lisbon had already started walking towards the door.

"Thank you, Cho for taking us!" Jane yelled out.

"Anytime."Cho said. "Call me when you have the baby."

Jane and Lisbon entered the hospital and immediately went to the desk. "May I help you?" The receptionist asked.

"My wife, Teresa is having a baby." Jane said nervously.

"I see that. Just fill out these forms." The receptionist said handing over the clipboard.. Jane took it and quickly filled out the forms. "You are?", the receptionist asked looking at Jane.

"Her husband, Patrick." The receptionist took his name and immediately called in for the nurse and the doctor.

"Oh, God! I need some relief!" Lisbon cried. A nurse immediate came up to the couple with a wheelchair. Jane immediately helped Lisbon to the chair. They pushed her towards the elevator and up to a room with a bed and nurse had Lisbon changed from her clothes to a hospital gown, she was still having painful contractions. Jane helped her to the bed, and then immediately went beside her sitting in the chair next to the bed and took her hand. "It'll be alright, honey."

"I'm so sorry about yelling. It just it hurts so much. You're easy to blame."

"Which is true, I'm to blame. I know. We'll find how far you are." Jane said.

Dr. Barnes came into the room and saw Lisbon on the bed. "Hello, Teresa, Patrick. Let's see how you're doing with the dilation."

The doctor checked and revealed Lisbon was about dilated 6 centimeters. "I'll check back."

Lisbon continued having contractions and they were coming closer together.

"Count to ten and breathe in and out." Jane continued "Just relax." Lisbon breathed steadily and listened to her husband. This was definitely a time where she appreciated Jane using hypnosis. This was helping. The blonde haired nurse came in. "I'm Stephanie and I'll be your nurse for the night. I came in here and wondered if needed any medication to help with the pain. We like to have it as an option as generally most mothers take it."

Jane continued his exercises with his wife, even with the nurse there. "Don't think of the pain. Just relax. Breathe. Come on."

"I'm fine. I have my husband." Lisbon stated managing to smile at Jane with her pain of contractions. He smiled back continuing to hold her hand. The contractions stopped a couple of minutes. Lisbon knew they would come again until she reached 10 centimeters

"I see." Stephanie noticed Jane doing the breathing exercises with Lisbon.

"I'm just using light hypnosis." Jane looked at the nurse. "Pain's in the mind, and if you don't think about it, you can train yourself not to feel it."

"You're doing a good job. Let me know if you do need it." Stephanie said noticing Lisbon relaxing and not crying out as much. She took Lisbon's blood pressure quickly and left the room.

"I hope Cho's alright. I didn't scare him, did I? " Lisbon asked worriedly. The contractions stopped a few minutes again

"Nah, he's tough. He can deal with anything including enraged women in labor." Jane teased.

She glared at him and then hit him on the shoulder. "Ouch. Hey, what was that for?" Jane questioned rubbing his shoulder

"So, you can feel some pain too. Oh, God, it's happening again." Lisbon felt another painful contraction holding her stomach.

"This is a nice and big room, there's even a couch." Lisbon smiled at Jane.

"They knew I was coming."Jane grinned. Lisbon smiled at her husband and

"Do you remember when we first met?" Lisbon continued their good times conversation having a little relief from contractions.

"Of course, I do." Jane grinned. "I knew you were special the second we met. I was mess, but I knew you would be the one to truly help me." He smiled.

"Did you imagine we'd end up here." Lisbon said looking at her pregnant belly and her ring.

"To be honest no, but I'm glad we are now, Teresa. It took us a long time. Well, at least me."

"I didn't think that either, but I'm happy we got to this point. I took as long too. It wasn't just you."

A few hours later Lisbon and Jane tried to sleep some before, but it was hard considering Lisbon went through some more contractions, then Stephanie, the nurse came in and measured another time. "You're dilated to 10 centimeters. It's time to get ready for your baby."

"Good. We are ready." Lisbon said. Lisbon positioned herself for the birth. The doctor came in right away. "Are you ready to push?"

"Yes." Lisbon said. "Let's do this."

"Now push."

Lisbon took all her strength and screamed and pushed. She pushed a few times.

"You're doing great, honey." Jane said.

"We need a few more pushes" Dr. Barnes said.

Lisbon got ready again and pushed and yelled.

Lisbon continued to have more pain with the pushes, she was starting to wear out. Jane continued his relaxing method with her. Lisbon had went ahead and opted for no medication as she was experiencing enough relief Jane's breathing tricks.

"You're pretty brave to go without any medicine." Dr. Barnes said. "Let's continue."

Lisbon continued with several more pushes.

"The head's crowning. So one more push this time. Bear down and let this baby be born."

She put all her strength to push and it was painful. Then they heard a cry at 6:30a.m. "The baby's out." Dr. Barnes said carrying a small baby. "It's a girl."

Lisbon watched as Stephanie, the nurse and the doctor carefully cleaned the baby and Jane was beside her. "She's beautiful, Patrick."

"Patrick, would you like to cut the cord?" Dr. Barnes asked.

Lisbon watched the scene of Jane and the baby sleepily barely keeping awake until she closed her eyes.

Jane panicked as soon he saw his wife. Was she okay? This can't be happening? "Is something wrong with my wife?" The nurse saw his panic-stricken face. Stephanie came to him and reassured him taking Lisbon's pressure. "She's just asleep. Don't worry, she's fine. We're checking her vitals too. As soon as we do our Apgar testing and weigh and measure the baby, would you like to hold your daughter?"

"Of course, I want to. Does she look healthy?" Jane asked with tears of happiness.

"Yes, we'll get the testing done and bring her on back." Stephanie said. They had taken the baby to another nursery and testing room. Soon the nurse came back with the baby and handed him his daughter while he was seated in the chair. A few minutes later Stephanie took her back to the nursery with the other newborns.

While he was waiting for Lisbon to wake up, and the fact that he couldn't sleep with the excitement of his new daughter, Jane then decided to make a few phone calls, particularly to Lisbon's brothers and their friends to share the news. He took his phone out and pushed Stan on the list.

"Hello." Stan's sleepy voice answered. "It's Patrick"

"Hello, Stan. Sorry, I'm calling early."

"Hi, Patrick, oh, this is about the baby."

"It's a girl. 7Lbs 8oz 20 inches long."

"Congrats. How's T?"

"Asleep."

"What's her name?"

"We have yet to decide. I have an idea. I want to tell Teresa first."

"I'm glad you called."

Jane called Tommy and tried Jimmy, though couldn't get a hold of him. He called Cho and then decided to call the Rigsbys

"Hello." Rigsby answered.

"Hi, Wayne." He heard Rigsby tell Grace, "It's Jane." "Oh,my gosh, I know what this is about." Grace answered back and their phone clicked to speakerphone.

"We had the baby." Jane announced.

"I'm so excited!" Grace spoke. "I knew I was close to the day. I had predicted. "

"Grace, let the man speak." Wayne said. Jane grinned at Grace's excitement.

"It's a 's 7lbs 8oz and 20 inches long."

"What's her name?" Grace asked.

"We haven't decided yet." Jane answered.

"How's Lisbon?" Wayne asked.

"She's asleep now but good." Jane admitted.

"I'm so happy for you, Jane." Grace said. "And tell Lisbon we're happy for her too when she wakes."

"Will do. I'm very happy."Jane answered.

"Thanks so much for calling." Wayne said.

It was the next morning around 10:00. Lisbon was sleeping after the long, long hours of labor and finally giving birth to their baby girl. They hadn't come up with a name yet but Jane instantly knew as soon as he saw the baby, who had her mother's dark hair. However, Lisbon fell asleep soon after before he could tell her the name he came up with after the nurse gave him his baby girl after having her cleaned up, weighed and measured, and finished normal testing.

"Well, little girl, now that you're all checked out and clean, we're going to let your daddy meet you. Your mommy's so tired." Stephanie, the nurse brought the baby wrapped in a pink blanket to Jane sitting in the chair by the bed where Lisbon was sleeping. Jane prepared his arms as the nurse placed his daughter in his arms. His hand supporting her head like he remembered years ago.

"Hey, little girl, you are so special to us. We've waited for you." Jane said as he looked at the tiny human, his miracle at the end of all the pain. The baby was sleeping but her heart beat steadily in her little chest. "You look like your mommy. I love you so much already and I just met you. I know the name for you."

A couple minutes later the nurse took the baby back to the nursery with the other babies.

Coming back from his memory the night before, he noticed Teresa stirring and finally after stretching her arms woke and noticed him sitting in chair by the bed. "Hey, you."

"Hi. How'd you sleep?" Jane smiled.

"Good. You did go home afterward? Have you slept?" Lisbon questioned worriedly.

"Of course not. And leave you and the baby? I didn't want you to think your dream came true. I've slept here and there." Jane confessed.

"I'm so tired." Lisbon yawned and stretched again. "I'm sorry I didn't stay awake to hold the baby."

"And understandably so. You did a lot of work." Jane admitted. "I'm sure the nurse will bring her , I panicked when I saw you asleep."

"I'm fine, Jane. I was just tired. Labor took a lot out of me. How is she?" Lisbon asked yawning.

"Beautiful and healthy. I held her a little while afterward." Jane admitted.

"I fell asleep. Oh, we need a name." Lisbon remembered yawning.

"I have it figured out." Jane admitted taking Lisbon's hand.

"Please no literary names." Lisbon admitted looking at him with a scared face.

"Don't worry it's not." Jane said.

"Okay, I trust you. What's the name?" Lisbon asked yawning again.

"Her name is Lisby Michelle Jane."

"Did you just name our daughter after my last name, well my maiden name?" Lisbon questioned giving off her confused face.

"Technically after you and she looks like you. You'll see how well it fits her. I added the Michelle to remember Vega by." Jane explained "I looked at her and the name just came."

"I do like the idea of Michelle and I thought about it if we had a girl. Lisby Michelle. It does have a nice ring to it."Lisbon smiled. "You got a first name out of my last name. I wonder what my brothers will think." Lisbon giving off a smirk.

"It's a nice name like I said when we first met and it's part of your name. If you think about it, the name has all the suggestions to choose a name. It's unique, it has a nice ring and sound to it, her name is after a friend and a family name." Jane elaborated.

"Thank goodness, we got married. I wouldn't want her name to be Lisby Lisbon." Lisbon giving off a laugh.

There was a knock on the door, "Hello, I'm not disturbing anything, am I " The nurse poked in her head.

"No, just figured out a name." Jane said.

"Look who I brought in. My name is Lauren. I took over after Stephanie's shift." Lauren, the brunette nurse in her middle 20s wheeled in the plastic crib with the baby. "I came in to ask about the name."

The nurse carefully rolled the crib by the bed and carefully took the baby out and wrapped her in the blanket and handed her to Lisbon. "Here's your mommy, little girl."

"Hello, you're so beautiful, look at you. Your daddy and my little miracle. You do look like a Lisby. Your daddy's right, of course like always. Patrick, how did we get so lucky." Lisbon said looking

toward Jane. Tears fell down her cheeks, so did Jane's

"Lisby Michelle Jane is her name." Jane stated to the nurse.

Feedback is appreciated. I really like getting it. I've seen so many stories where they have a boy, more than girl stories and I personally think that they would have a girl. The first reason is Bruno saying the show going full circle at the end. Jane lost a wife and daughter, so he gains a wife and daughter. The second reason I decided on a girl is they specifically show Jane and Lisbon holding Stan's daughter in White Orchids. The third reason is I need to equal out the Lisbon family children. Stan already has three boys, Stan has Little Annie and Tommy has big Annie and they were the only girls and so I feel like I need to add another girl.
