Chapter 17

This is more of Jane and Lisbon enjoying their baby. There will be surprise visitors in this chapter as well. I'm not sure how many more chapters there will be. At least a chapter of Jane and Lisbon bringing the baby home and adjusting to parenthood.

Lisbon continued holding her daughter, admiring her features from her eyes all the way down to her toes. This child she was holding was made from her and Jane's love. She was a miracle after all the years of pain of losing her mother and her father and Jane losing his loved ones and through the hunt for Red John. The baby looked up to her mother. "I'm your mommy. You can see me now." She thought about if it was hard for Jane having another girl, since Charlotte wasn't able to live. He had said after she had the dream, he would love the child no matter what and that he would be a good father. She still wondered if there would be any hardship for him.

Jane responded to the baby, "Yes, your mommy's very beautiful like you."

"You okay with having a girl?" Lisbon asked concerned.

"Why wouldn't I be okay? Our daughter's beautiful." Jane asked.

"I was just thinking that it might be hard and painful for you." Lisbon asked.

"I'm fine, Teresa. I told you I would love our child no matter what when you had the dream. Lisby looks nothing like Charlotte. She looks like herself and you. In fact, I've never seen so much hair on a Caucasian baby. Charlotte, I recall had very little hair, but she was beautiful too. I will always miss her, but I'm ready to give love and devotion to our daughter." Jane reassured smiling.

Lisbon touched her daughter's hair. "She does have beautiful hair."

"Like her mother." Jane looking lovingly at his wife.

"And her father." Lisbon grinned looking at her husband's hair.

"We very well can't do much about it now; she's here and she's beautiful." Jane grinned.

"Yes, that's right. I'm actually surprised we had a girl considering my family history of mostly boys. My dad had three brothers and then, of course, I'm the only girl with three brothers." Lisbon confessed.

"Lisby breaks tradition as you did too." Jane grinned. " You think I have beautiful hair?" Jane grinned.

"Yes, I love running my hand through it at night."Lisbon grinned.

"Yes, you do." Jane admitted.

"Did I scream obscenities to you" Lisbon asked.

"Not any more than usual." Jane teased.

"What! I haven't lately." Lisbon denied.

"Well, not any more than usual when I do something stupid and crazy to solve a case. You did say you hated me a few times." Jane confessed grinning.

"I'm sorry, you know I didn't mean to. We should take a picture of her and send to my brothers. They'll want to see her. Oh, and Annie and Wayne and Grace. Wylie and Cho." Lisbon described.

"You want to send it to everybody?" Jane asked.

"Everyone will look forward to seeing our baby." Lisbon stated.

Jane took out his phone and immediately took a picture of Teresa and Lisby. Even though, he wasn't always good with technology he did know how to use his phone. Lisbon decided to send the e-mails and texts to send to their family and friends. Jane gave her his phone and Jane held the baby while she quickly worked on getting the e-mail's done. She yawned several times in the process still extremely tired from the night before.

"Is it okay if I find myself some tea?" Jane asked. "Though I highly doubt I can trust hospital tea."

"Of course. You've been with me all night. Go ahead and take a break." Lisbon said. "I need to get some more sleep anyway."

Lauren came back and carefully took the baby back into the crib when Lisbon decided she needed to rest more. "Oh, and your friend Kimball Cho brought in Teresa's phone this morning. He said she left it in the car." Jane took the phone and set it on the stand next to the bed. "Thank you." Lisbon already was sleeping.

"No problem." Lauren responded and then wheeled the crib out.

Jane searched the hospital for some decent tea and finally ended up finding a bistro selling coffee and tea near the waiting room downstairs. He paid for the tea in the paper cup and sipped it. It wasn't the best tea but it wasn't the worst either. He went towards the waiting room and saw Jimmy Lisbon, Teresa's brother sitting in a chair.

"Jimmy, what are you doing here? This is a surprise."

"Teresa called me last night." Jimmy admitted. Jimmy showed his call log on his phone.

"I highly doubt it, she was in labor all night and early morning." Jane confessed.

"Yeah, I figured that. I heard some of it. I even heard her yelling at you." Jimmy admitted amused.

Jane laughed. "Which means her phone called you accidentally. So, you drove from Oklahoma City to here?" Jane questioned.

"Yep, I decided I wanted to come. What's five hours?" Jimmy said.

" How did you know the hospital?" Jane asked.

"Your friend Cho answered Lisbon's phone when it called her. She left it in his car and heard me. He mentioned he drove you to this hospital."

"He did bring it earlier in the morning. The nurse brought it to the room this morning."Jane admitted continuing sipping the tea.

"Oh, what did you have, Patrick?"

"A girl, she's beautiful. Lisby Michelle. Teresa sent a picture this morning when she woke." Jane smiled.

Jimmy seemed surprised but then grinned. "That name is nice. For a first name. Is T ready for a visitor?" Jimmy asked.

"I can ask Teresa and the nurse. We haven't found out about visitors." Jane explained.

Jane came back to the room and Lisbon was awake again.

"Your brother, Jimmy is in the waiting room."

"Really?" Lisbon asked.

"He said he received a call from you last night." Jane admitted.

"I didn't call him. Obviously not. He came all the way from Oklahoma City?" Lisbon asked. Jane picked up her phone on the table and handed it to her. She checked and saw indeed the phone called her brother.

"Yes. He did. Do you want to see him now?" Jane asked.

"Of course. I want to see him. He drove all that way."

Jane told the nurse that Teresa's brother was there to see her. The nurse said it was fine as long there's not too many people coming at once.

Jane walked back to the waiting room and let Jimmy know Teresa wanted to see him. Jane went back to the waiting room where Jimmy was sitting in the same spot. "Hey, Patrick, does T want to see me?" Jimmy asked.

"Of course, she does, you're her brother. Again thanks for installing the electricity in the cabin. We appreciate it." Jane said.

"No problem, Bro. I wanted to do it." Jimmy replied.

"Right now the baby's in the nursery with the other newborns." Jane admitted "We can go by there."

The two men headed to the elevator and back to the maternity ward. Jane decided to take Jimmy by the nursery to see his new niece. "Which is yours?" looking at several babies. They ranged from Hispanics to African Americans to a few Caucasians with no hair and finally to his and Lisbon's daughter with dark hair. She was so beautiful. He still couldn't believe how lucky he became first with Teresa Lisbon becoming his wife and now with their precious baby girl, their unexpected and beautiful gift.

"There she is." Jane said proudly pointing to Lisby in her plastic crib.

"Wow, she's beautiful. Stan's kids were bald when they were born." Jimmy noticed.

"She has very good genes." Jane responded smiling.

They continued down the hallway of the rooms where Lisbon was located. They entered Lisbon's room. Lisbon perked up at the sight of Jane.

"Well, here's who I picked up along the way." Jane said coming in and Jimmy following.

"Jimmy, it's great to see you. You drove all this way?"Lisbon asked.

"Yep, T, I did."

"I'm glad you came. When did you leave and how did you know the hospital?" Lisbon questioned yawning.

"I left early this morning at around 5. Your friend Cho answered your phone when I answered and said he was taking you to this hospital to have the baby. I packed up my bag last night and decided to leave the next morning. I didn't have anything going on, so I thought, I might as well surprise my sister and brother-in-law." Jimmy explained. "I got here at around 9:30. I wasn't exactly sure when visiting hours started and I wasn't sure if it was time to visit yet. I was going to check, but then Patrick came to the waiting room."

"Wow, Jimmy, I've never known you for an early riser." Lisbon admitted surprised her brother woke up so early. "I always had to tell you to get your butt out of bed." Lisbon said laughing. Jane laughed at the memory too. He could imagine Lisbon yelling at her brother to get up.

"I can surprise you, Sis." Jimmy grinned. "Patrick showed me the baby in the nursery. She definitely equals out the Lisbon children right now with Stan having three boys already and his girl and Tommy's girl. Now there's three and three."

"Until you have children, Jimmy. How's Lucy?" Lisbon asked. She wasn't sure if she could handle the overly perky woman her brother said was his fiancee at the wedding.

"Yeah, about her. We sort of broke up. Long story." Jimmy admitted sadly. "Babies seem to hate me. Stan's kids always cry when I hold them. They're allergic to me, I think."

"Oh, that's probably not true. We can have the nurse bring the baby in." Jane piped up. "You can hold her."

"We'll see about that, Patrick. I'll touch her and she'll probably cry." Jimmy said. "I've held one of my friend's babies, and she went into a scream fit as if she was crying for help,"Get me away from this creep!"

"I'm sure you'll be fine. Did Patrick tell you her name?"Lisbon laughed.

"I did." Jane said.

"I'm sorry about Lucy." Lisbon apologized but secretly pleased she didn't have to be a sister in law to the woman.

"I'll get by." Jimmy said. "Clever to turn our great name into a first name. Lisby." Jimmy said.

A few minutes later, Lisbon called Lauren in to bring in the baby so Jimmy could see Lisby up close. Lauren came in with the plastic crib. "I'm guessing we should leave her in here for now. You'll probably get more guests."

"Hey, I'm Jimmy, Teresa's brother." Jimmy said smoothly to Lauren and grinning.

"Hi." Lauren looked at Jimmy. Then looked at Lisbon. "Teresa, call me if you need anything." Then headed towards the door and excited into the hallway.

"Really, Jimmy, you're trying to flirt with our nurse." Lisbon rolled her eyes and yawned still tired.

" What can I say? Women adore me. They think I'm smooth." Jimmy said grinning . "You must be beat." He said noticing his sister's tired looking eyes.

"Yes, I am. I think I'm only going to get short naps here and there from now on for a while."

"We'll do it together." Jane said to Lisbon Then turned to Jimmy looking at Lisby. "Jimmy, you want to hold her. She's not going be too picky. She needs the touch. Sit down in the chair here." Jane getting up towards the crib. "We need to relax you before." Jane said. "Babies sense fear. I doubt it matters to her now. Relax. Count to ten."

"Are you hypnotizing me?" Jimmy asked and started counting down to ten.

"Lightly." Jane said.

Jimmy relaxed more. "Whoa, you have a hypnotist for a husband, T?"

"Yes, that's how I got through last night. I took no medication." Lisbon admitted. She still couldn't believe she got through without medication but Jane had the magic touch.

"I think you're relaxed enough. Jane carefully took the baby out of the crib and set her in Jimmy's arms. The baby looked at Jimmy and didn't cry. "Hey, kid, I'm your Uncle Jimmy." He looked smiling at the baby. Then looked at Jane and then to Lisbon who had fallen asleep. " She's not crying. Stan's kids cried when I held them when they were born."

"See you're relaxed. You're not afraid." Jane said. "So, are you staying since you drove all that way?"

"I might as well stay a couple days. I don't have any big jobs to do and not anybody waiting for me."Jimmy admitted. "I can't believe she's not crying." Jimmy said still holding Lisby.

"She likes you." Jane grinned standing up.

"For some reason." Jimmy said with a questioning look. "I should probably find myself a motel so you two can rest. I'm sure you haven't slept much either." Jimmy looked at Jane who had tired eyes also. Jimmy looked at Jane and then at his sister sleeping. "Teresa's out."

"I'm used to it because I tend to be an insomniac. I sleep in short intervals and besides, I was hyped up last night." Jane admitted looking at his brother-in- law with the baby.

"I should let you have this little girl." Jimmy looked at Jane. " You're such a calm baby." Jimmy talked to the baby looking at her. Jimmy carefully got up and handed the baby to Jane.

"She does seem calm. You're the first person besides Teresa and I and the nurses who's held her." Jane sat down in the chair holding his daughter again.

"I feel very lucky then." Jimmy grinned. "I'm going to see what's in town. I'll be back, Patrick. Tell T that too." Jimmy said starting towards the door.

"Sure. I'm glad you came and Teresa's happy you came. See you later." Jane said smiling at his brother-in law.

"Enjoy that baby of yours." Jimmy said grinning leaving the room.

Jane continued enjoying holding his daughter. He admired the same features his wife liked of their new daughter. He couldn't believe he was a father again. When Jane told Abbott he didn't know anything after getting married and building a house, Jane was right. He was happy to just get married to Teresa. Her news about the baby was the extra bonus. Now his daughter was here and precious and he loved her so much already.

A few minutes later he carefully set the baby back in the crib. He had Lauren bring the baby back in the nursery again. His phone rang and he answered.

"Hey, Jane."

"Hey, Cho. What can I do for you?"

"I'm wondering about visiting hours or when is a good time to visit?"

"Teresa's brother was here this morning. Later this afternoon would be best. Teresa's asleep now." Jane admitted looking at his wife still sleeping.

"Have you slept?" Cho asked.

"Not much. I'm okay, though. You know me, Cho. I live on very little sleep."

"Then you're an idiot."

"Thanks for reminding me." Jane said at Cho's blunt admission.

"I'm serious, Jane. As a friend, you need your sleep too. You want to be able to care for your baby when you get home."

"That's the thing, as a parent you don't get much sleep. I'm prepared." Jane said.

"You at least need to get as much sleep as you can before you go home then."

"Thanks for your concern, Cho. I'll probably try tonight."

Cho was sitting in his office working on paperwork. The week had been really slow and so they spent more time in the office than out in the field. Jane had called early in the morning to announce the birth of their baby girl. Wylie came in. "Hey, Cho, did you see the picture of Lisbon and the baby Jane sent?" He left the door ajar. He came in the office and sat in the chair in front of Cho.

"Yes, I did. Jane called and wanted me to drive them to the hospital last night." Cho confessed.

"Cool. She's cute, isn't she?" Wylie said excitedly.

"Yeah." Cho responded. Soon there was a knock on the door. "Come in." Cho called. The door opened revealing Dennis and Lena Abbott.

"Cho,Wylie, how are you doing?" Abbott asked noticing the two agents. They immediately got up and shook hands with Abbott and his wife.

"This is a surprise." Cho said. "Good to see you. Both of you."

"We decided to come back and visit. We had some time off." Lena said. "We appreciated you so much for you and the team helping Dennis."

"No problem." Cho said.

"Did Jane quit for good?" Abbott asked. "I didn't see him."

"He's been part time mostly." Cho admitted. "Lisbon's been on maternity leave the last three months. We haven't seen much of them."

"Jane and Lisbon had their baby early this morning!"Wylie piped up excitedly showing the picture on his phone.

"We came at the right time, Dennis." Lena said smiling looking at the picture on Wylie's phone. "The baby's beautiful."

"That's great news!Have you visited them yet?" Abbott asked.

"Not yet, I'm planning to this afternoon. I figured both of them are really tired." Cho admitted. "In fact I brought them to the hospital last night around 7."

"I'll go with you Cho." Wylie said.

"It's okay if we tag along, right?" Abbott said.

"Of course, since you're here. They would love to see you." Cho said. "I'll have to call Jane and see when they're ready for visitors."

"You do that, Cho and Lena and I will get set up in our hotel." Abbott said. "You'll call us when you're ready."

"Of course." Cho responded.

Dennis and Lena Abbott arrived at their hotel bringing their suitcases and luggage into their hotel room. "It's such wonderful news about Jane and Lisbon. I wish I would've made it to their wedding."

"I know, dear. It was very , indeed it is wonderful and it took them a long time to get to this point they're at now with I assume the Red John Hunt and Lisbon nearly going to D.C.

"They must be really happy." Lena said going on the bed sitting down. "Were you aware they were expecting?"

"Lisbon mentioned it before I left for D.C. I forgot about it. I didn't tell you?" Abbott admitted.

"No, you didn't. We really did come at the perfect time." Lena said.

"I knew there were feelings between the two when Jane asked to work with Lisbon and wrote his letters we found him by them. They just wouldn't admit their feelings to themselves and each other." Abbott explained and then he recalled Jane's desperation to get to the airport in Miami. He knew the consultant had said something on the plane when Lisbon decided to stay in Austin. Now he himself was in D.C. working at the FBI office there.

"You have always have been such a romantic at heart, Dennis." Lena said getting up and kissing her husband. "You want people happy like us."

It was around 3:00 in the afternoon and Lisbon was awake. The nurse had brought lunch for her, although it wasn't the best food, but not the worst either. She had noticed Jane finally getting some rest on the pull out couch. She assumed he was running on his adrenaline since last night and that's why he was determined to stay awake. Over the years, he lived on little sleep while he was working on the Red John had gotten better sleeping at night when he slept with her. She was glad he was getting some sleep after being up last night and most of the day.

She wondered when more visitors would knew they would get some more. She noticed a note from Jane on the stand that said Jimmy went to check in at a motel and would come back to visit them. She did want to get as much sleep as possible before they would have to bring the baby home in a couple of days. She knew it wouldn't be easy getting sleep then and they would have to figure out the feeding schedule. She knew, it would be hard for her to get used to caring for the baby. Jane had experience before, but it had been years.

She soon heard a knock on the door. "Come in, I'm awake!" Lisbon called out. Jane instantly got up from the bed. "You got visitors." Jane said.

"We got visitors." Lisbon reminded. "Were you really sleeping?" Lisbon looked at her husband.

"I rested." Jane said. "Cho did call about when to visit. He must be here."

Wylie came in soon, with Cho following and to her surprise, Dennis and Lena Abbott. They came bearing gifts and flowers as well.

"This is a surprise." Lisbon noticing the Abbotts.

"We were in town to visit and we heard about your little one." Abbott admitted.

"Is this a good time to visit?" Wylie asked.

"Yes. I can only sleep so much." Lisbon admitted. "I welcome visitors now.

"Congratulations on everything. Dennis said you two got married while I was in Prague." Lena said looking at Jane and Lisbon. "Now you have a little bundle of joy." Lena explained holding a vase of flowers. "These flowers can be new marriage, new baby." Lena then set the flowers on the table by the bed.

"New house." Jane piped up going up to the visitors.

"So, Jane, you got your house finished." Abbott said

"Yes, I did along with help from Lisbon's brothers and other workers. We moved in last month." Jane admitted.

"We helped them move in." Wylie said pointing to himself and Cho and then he set a little bear and a card on the table. "There's a gift card for your favorite Thai restaurant food in there. I know you'll be busy when you get home."

"Thank you." Lisbon said smiling.

"Oh, here's something for you two to enjoy when you have a break." Cho said showing a bottle of an gift card to an Italian restaurant for takeout and wine. I can bring it to you."

"Cho, you're a romantic at heart." Jane said.

"That'll be nice after none for months." Lisbon admitted.

Lauren, the nurse came in with a cart with a plant and piggy bank and also pink cloth and blanket set. "You have people that like you. Visitors." She said noticing everyone there. "I'm guessing you would want me to bring in Lisby."

"If it's okay." Lisbon said.

"Of course." Lauren said stopping the cart and leaving it in the room. Jane went ahead and looked at the plant and piggy bank from the Rigsbys. The baby towels and blanket and soft bear set with baby wash from Stan and his family. Lisbon smiled at the nice thoughts of her friends and family and appreciated the gesture of their gifts.

Lauren left and returned with the baby. "Well, here's going to be the star of the hour." The nurse grinned. "I'll leave you to enjoy her."
"She's beautiful." Lena said.

"She's cute." Wylie said. Lisby proved to be popular with everyone even stoic Cho cracked a smile at the baby. Everyone took turns holding the baby and finally the baby made her way back to her mother who lovingly held her daughter.

Everyone smiled and admired the baby and parents as slowly each person made their adieu. Cho and Wylie edged their way out of the door as they knew Lisbon would be getting tired and needed more rest. The Abbotts remained as Dennis pulled something out of his pocket.

"Patrick and Teresa, I want you to have this cowry shell as a symbol of what brought you back together. I saw this on Lisbon's desk in Washington state and knew that Patrick was by the beach somewhere. I listened to the shell and heard the ocean. Keep this shell to remind Lisby of the beautiful sounds of life and how this shell brought her parents back together."

Patrick and Teresa had tears in their eyes as they listened to their former boss and they looked down on Lisby and then to each other. "Someday, she'll know of the love that stretched across the oceans. Someday she'll know the sound of their love." Abbott continued and he and Lena left the two to enjoy their beautiful baby girl. Dennis and Lena walked away smiling at the fact the two went through so much for years and now were very happy with being a new family.

Feedback is appreciated. I really like getting it.

I don't know how Jimmy is with Stan's kids or babies, but for the sake of my story, he's nervous around babies and they cry when he's holding them. I don't know how I came up with Teresa's phone calling Jimmy. It came to me one night. It's happened to me where the phone calls me instead of the person and I hear the background noise and conversation. It seemed like something that would happen to Jimmy. I realized I forgot to include a part with Jimmy working on the house, so this is my Jimmy part. I also realized I forgot Abbott and his wife at the baby shower, so I include them in this chapter instead.

I'm working on another story that is kind of a continuation of this one except I have a case I'm figuring out and it's a crossover with Castle. There will be a lot of Jane and Lisbon with the baby too. I'm excited and nervous about it. I've been watching the Castle DVD sets and catching up on the show and this idea just came to me. Watch out for it. If you like Our Life From Now On, you'll like my new story.
