Author's Note: Sorry for the wait, finals are coming up and I need to focus on those, along with final projects. Anyway I wanted to rush through this chapter so it may not be as good as the others. Still I tried and I think you all will like the ending of the chapter. Enjoy.
Chapter 27: Complication
A lone figure walked down the streets of New York city, long trench coat but with nothing to cover his brunette hair as the human tried to look as inconspicuous as possible. Both eyes were kept forward as he continued to walk about down the long stretch of concrete as he neared his destination. He passed a few people, most likely young partiers, or insomniacs, who still were walking the streets and had a lot of energy to spare.
Moving the sleeve of his coat up both eyes looked upon a digital watch as the black numbers showed it was half past nine, he's right on time.
"Best hurry up before things get too late," he said to himself as he rounded a corner of a nicer neighborhood and looked upon a neon light which flashed: Internet Café. This is his destination he had been trying to get to and now he could get to work.
Reaching for the door the stranger pulled the metal frame open and walked inside the cool building, the sight of dozens of computers the first thing he could see. The purpose of this kind of building is self-explanatory, a place where random civvies can go and long onto the internet for their own pleasure. It was also a good place to kick back and hang out if one had friends.
A young light skinned, red head female sat behind a desk by the entrance, one of the employees of the café. She sat down on her rotating chair and typed away at her personal computer, most likely doing some work. Hearing the door open she looked up and smiled at the newest customer.
"Hey Mr. Erikson it's good to see you again," she smiled with a soft voice.
"Kelly, you know to call me Gavin," the human smiled at her friend.
The female shook her head in amusement, "It's part of the job, so here for the usual?"
"Yes," Gavin nodded. "I just need to use a computer for a bit."
"Well just take your pick, but remember about the fee," She reminded him.
"Don't worry I got it," the brunette reached into his pocket and pulled out a few dollar bills and placed it on the desk. "See you in a bit," he said as he walked further into the building, heading for his usual spot.
The place had a few people in it, a few on computers and some kicking back in the chairs drinking coffee or other drinks. Gavin ignored everyone as he headed for a computer in the back, where it is secluded from the rest, and away from prying eyes. Gavin needed this privacy for what he was about to do, and this place is the only location that's safe enough for him to do his work.
Arriving at his computer the human sat down in his chair, away from others, moved the mouse to wake it from sleep mode to reveal the desktop. "Ok, time to get to work."
A long frown was plastered on Raphael's face as he sat on the window ledge, one arm on a bent knee while his other leg dangled outside. The emerald green turtle stared outside at the quiet night of the city as no one was out on the streets. So he didn't have to worry about being seen here.
"So Raph, how is everyone?" April asked as she approached her turtle friend, a concerned on her face.
She had just closed her shop for the night, enjoying the slow night that business had provided for the shop. For the rest of the night she had planned to be alone and enjoy a nice time by herself before going to sleep. Little did she know that once she went up to her apartment she was surprised to see that Raphael had let himself in.
It wasn't how she was going to plan her evening but it was nice to have company at times. And her turtle friends were always welcomed at her home, mostly if they let her know they were coming so she wouldn't be surprised at their appearance.
"The last time I was over things seemed the same as before," the red head responded as she stood by the red clad turtle's side.
"The same as always, except that Master Splinter is making us take a break…which isn't sitting well on me," the hothead responded with a sigh.
"Why is that?"
Raph shook his head as he got off the ledge and went fully into the apartment. "I don't know, I just can't seem to keep my mind occupied and it's driving me nuts. I mean Leo and Mikey found ways to take up their time, but something…something is just keeping me from relaxing."
"So that's why you came out here?" April asked as she watched Raph move inside and she went to sit on her couch.
"Yeah…sorry for just dropping in unannounced," he rubbed the back of his head as he just realized he might have barged in on her when she maybe wanted to be alone.
"No, no, it's nice to have you guys drop by, especially during times like this," she held her hands up, showing it was alright. "I mean…I don't really know how you all are really doing. I mean-"
"We ran into Don," Raph just blurted out for no reason, head down and looking at the table.
Both of April's eyes went wide as a small gasp left her, the shock on her face was one that was rare to see. "W-What do you mean? You actually saw him!?"
Raph nodded, the words coming out of him like he wasn't in control, "We were out exercising…and we just ran into him."
"But…but what happened?" She asked, leaning forward in her seat.
The red clad turtle sighed as he spoke the next part. "That's the thing, we don't know. He…He seemed a bit freaked once he saw all of us and made a run for it once he had the chance."
"What happened next, and how did he look?" April asked once more, wanting to hear more of what her friend had to say.
"Donny did look different, mainly it was physical since he put on muscle, much more muscle. Almost about my build, and also the fact that he seemed to have gotten better skill wise," Raph explained, deciding to leave out the part of his brother's status with the Foot. It was best not to let that piece of information slip until they could confirm it for real.
"How so, what exactly did he do?'
"What didn't he do?" He responded as he sat down on an arm chair, hunched over and still looking at the ground. "He's gotten faster, nearly Mikey's speed I want to say, plus he managed to break free of a hold I always could keep him in. It's like…like he's a better ninja, one that can take us all on one at a time."
"Oh my…" The red head spoke in shock, the look she expressed is one of disbelief, but yet hearing it from her friend and she had to believe it. "What else happened?"
"He gave us the slip," Raph finally sighed, looking up with a look of failure plastered on him. "After chasing him for a while we finally had enough. Since we knew he could take us one at a time we had to get him at the same time. There was no way he would have been able to take us all on together, and it pained us when we realize that we needed to use force this time. But yet as clever as he always is Donny was one step ahead. He threw down a flash bomb and blinded us, using that distraction he managed to blindfold us with our masks and escaped from us."
April sat in silence after hearing the whole story, wasn't sure what to say next, or if she wait till he said something. This is heavy news to her and wasn't sure what to expect next. Still something popped up into her mind, "How…how did master Splinter take it?"
"He wanted to be alone for a while, the news of Don must have filled his head with so many thoughts." Raph sat back in the chair. "After a while he came to us and announced that he's going to be joining us on our searches, something that shocked us all."
"Well that should be good then, I mean if you run into Donny again, I'm pretty sure that he'll be able to get him back," April stood back up and went to her friend's side, knowing now that he and his family had been through a lot now. "You'll get him back, I know you guys will. I mean you guys now know he's still in the city, so that helps big time doesn't it?"
"It should…but I just can't help but…think that things are much harder now. I mean we don't know what happened to Don, so we don't know what he's truly capaible of. It's going to be a struggle to get him back now." Raph then stood up from his seat and headed for the window.
"Where are you going?" April asked as she followed him.
"I…I just need to go for a run, to clear my mind," he stopped right out at the window, looking outside for a few seconds.
The redhead nodded at his reasoning, who wouldn't have too much on their minds. Besides when one of her friends hinted that they needed some space she would respect their wishes. "Be careful ok, I worry about all you guys, especially during times like this."
Raph nodded, "Thanks April…I'm glad to know you and Casey are still here for us when we need to talk."
"We'll always be here, you're our friends," She smiled at him.
He was silent for a bit, smiling a bit at hearing that response. "Thanks," and with that he exited the apartment and headed up the fire escape.
Gavin typed away at the computer in front of him as he accessed the network. Thankfully the seclusion of his area prevented any unwanted attention so he could work without being spotted. He set up his PC so it ran on a wireless modem and changed the IP address so he couldn't be easily located. Once things were set up Gavin then access the Foot's mainframe from where he was at. He needed to carefully think things through
"Ok…once I insert the program," he then reached into his coat and pulled out a blank computer disk. The brunette placed his elbows on the desk table the computer rested on as he looked at the disk. A bit of guilt filling him as he stared at it. "I'm so sorry for taking it…Junko."
The guilt he felt is genuine since he took this program from his friend's lab. A few days ago the turtle had told him of a program he came up with, which use would help hack into certain networks. From what he heard it's a basic cloaking program which would hide a hacker's presence inside major mainframes. But it wouldn't last for that long, eventually he would get spotted, but the amount of time he gets wasn't known.
Once being shown it Gavin smiled mentally, this is something he needed big time. And once his back was turned the human swiped the program, and committed a theft against his friend. Hopefully he could get this back without his friend knowing.
"Once I get what I need from Saki I can get gone," he said to himself as he inserted the program and waited for it to load. Just then his pocket vibrated as he reached in and took out his cell phone. Opening it up he found that he received a text, clicking it became readable.
The Boss wants a report on your progress-unknown
Gavin sighed as he knew who this was, irritated that they choose now to text him. Typing back he said the words as he inputted the reply message, "Getting the data, will need to make a copy and once I confirm it's what we need I will return back to Hoboken." He sent the message and waited with the phone in his hand, knowing a replay would come in only a few seconds. Just like he predicted his phone vibrated once more.
Best hurry up, you spent way too much time over there-unknown
Gavin shook his head as he read the message, they had no idea how much he risk by being contacted by them. He would be back soon, but the thought of that brought him back to his friend. Hoping his plan would work, "Will be back in the next few days and I will be bringing someone who will be a big asset."
Before sending it he stopped as another pang of guilt hit him. He felt bad for what he had planned, and slowly his thoughts on Junko started to change. In reality when he saw what the turtle could do he knew he would be a huge asset but soon his thoughts change. "I can't do this to him…no…he's my friend," he said to himself as he deleted the message and typed a new one. "Will be back soon, I just need to help a friend first, no questions asked.
With that he closed the phone and went back to the computer as the program kicked in. Nodding he then started to access the mainframe, thankfully the new program that he swiped also contained a code that let him slip passed the firewalls which would make things easier for him.
"Ok, now lets see the secrets you have."
Don sat in silence in the back of the black van, riding along with at least a dozen Foot henchmen as they were driven to their destination. Everyone other than him checking over their equipment and chatting some as they got themselves ready.
The black clad turtle didn't talk at all, his mind already occupied as he looked over the file he had in his hands. Once again after he had been given his target he had been provided information on his target, so that way he could get a good idea on how to take things.
Currently he looked at a paper of information on his target, a representative of the mafia, a swift talker and a guy who knew business. He managed to arrange a bunch of deals that lead to people getting hurt or killed, and of course organized robberies.
"Murder…kidnapping…assault…man this guy has a huge rap sheet, and yet no one has convicted him. All because he bribed the officials into looking the other way…I hate those kind of people, who just thing that since they have money they can do whatever they want. Does this guy even feel remorse for what he did?
He looked over various newspaper clippings of crimes he did, all of which he organized. Of course there were pictures of the people who died because of him. There were many of them, which made Don stop looking at them. "No wonder I'm being sent to take him out…this guy has to be stopped."
He then turned the page and found a photo of his target, apparently a 5'10 guy with blond hair, and a medium build. Brown eyes, and with a square jaw and looked to be about a hundred and seventy pounds. And according to the photo that was taken he always wore a sharp looking white suit, which would make him an easy target to spot. Still that didn't mean the job would be easy, depending on how much time he had to plan things could be a bit complicated.
"Junko!" he had been knocked out of his train of thought as his name was called. Lowering the papers he looked over at one of the suits who addressed him, "You hear us?"
"Sorry, too busy looking the information over," he admitted, knowing that every detail would be important.
"We were saying that the warehouse will be completely guarded, mostly on the inside. We're going to rig the lights to be blown out so you can have some cover," the first disguised Foot ninja explained.
Don nodded at that, glad to know about that, "Thanks, good to know."
"Plus we don't know how long the firefight will last, it could be minutes or only one minute, so you'll need to act quick," he explained as a bag was brought out as the disguised Foot ninjas reached in to pull out guns.
"Quick question," Don asked, curious as to something. "Why are you all dressed in suits instead of your ninja attire?"
"It'll be a lot easier to put up a front if the target thinks he's dealing with soldier types instead of ninjas. If the mafia finds out their representative was killed in a room full of ninja they'll suspect something, and we need to make sure that doesn't happen."
"Ok…just curious as to that," Don asked as the van slowed down to a halt.
The driver turned off the car as he looked back, "We're early, you know what to do."
One of the others then turned to the olive green turtle, "Ok Junko survey the area and try to find a good COA."
The turtle nodded as he went out the door that was opened and into the night. Both eyes looked around as he found the warehouse before him, being followed by the others. He walked with them until they were inside the building, which Don took the time to look around. The inside was packed with various tall shelves with wooden crates stacked on them and a few forklifts parked inside.
Walking along with the others, one barking orders to the rest as they set things up. The turtle spotted a couple stairs that lead up to some catwalks that gave a good view of the ground floor. If he guessed right then that would mean some guards would be planted on the top, making sure they can have a good view of the place. Thinking things through the turtle found that there's not a good hiding spot, at least if he wanted to be spotted.
"What you got?" one of the Foot said as they came up to him.
"No good hiding spots here, at least within," Donny then looked up and noticed a skylight, and an open window. He had to squint his eyes a bit to see them, but he smiled once he saw it. "At least…I think there's at least one hiding spot."
"Where?" he asked.
"Don't worry about that, you guys set up, and don't worry I'll be here," with that Don turned and headed for the door.
A couple minutes later Don landed silently on the gravel floor of the warehouse roof. Looking forward he then ran over to one of the skylights and crouched to peer inside. He smiled as the whole inside could be seen. This is good, and since his spot is angled where the moon's light didn't hit then it meant he wasn't illuminated. This would be a good hiding spot, and all he had to do is wait.
It was a good thing he found this spot, because he then saw the large loading bay doors open, and a few newcomers came in, all of them holding automatic weapons. Soon his target walked into the room, and just like his picture he was wearing a white suit, making him noticeable. He then watched as the target and the leader of his group meet and exchange words. Because of the distance he was at he couldn't' hear them.
It was then he started to look the area over, trying to see how he could set things up to make it look like an accident. He could grab a discarded gun and shoot him, but that would draw attention because of the sound. He could find something sharp and get in close to stab him, but now they're all using guns and a sharp object would only question things.
Both eyes then locked with the shelves and the wooden crates that were stacked. Looking between the target and the shelf he could see that a small shadow hit him, which gave him an idea. If he could somehow tip the shelf over, and cause it to fall over, the weight of the crates would crush him. It could look like an accident from the gun fire, something that wouldn't be questioned. It was perfect, and now he had to wait until the right moment.
"AH!" He shouted as he felt something tackle him from behind. Someone wrapped his arms around the turtle as they rolled around on the ground. Don tried to shake whoever got him, but then felt himself being slammed on his plastron, knocking the wind out of him.
Before he could react he felt his left arm being twisted behind his back and something metal pinning his right arm to the ground. He's caught!
Looking up Don froze at what he saw, a Sai was embedded into the ground, the prong pinning his wrist down. A chill ran down his spine as a familiar voice spoke up, "Got you now Donny boy," Raph said as he had his brother pinned.
A/N: Hope you like. Now like I said, I rushed through so there's not that much detail I wanted it to have Still it's the best I could do. Believe me there's a lot more surprises in story. Till next time.
