Chapter 23

Yes, I decided to give you another chapter. I decided to put two on since I will be gone on a trip for a couple of weeks to California and not sure when I'll be able to update. I'll still continue to write. This chapter has Stan and his family visit. There's a couple of surprises within this chapter as well I didn't plan to have but they but worked out.

Disclaimer: Don't Own the show

A couple of weeks later, Jane and Lisbon received a call from Stan, telling them he and his family were going to visit. Of course, they had set up their own hotel, to not interfere too much. They knew what it was like to have people visit them after a new baby. Many of their friends knew to wait a few weeks until they were situated with their routine, and so they decided to wait as well. Stan called Teresa and asked if they would be ready for visitors yet, and she decided it would be okay. She had been feeling a lot better and yes, she was still tired, but her brief depression didn't come back after the one day. She decided it was okay for her brother and his family to come. Lisbon and Jane were ready for the visitors, since part of what helped her depression was seeing visitors such as the Rigsbys and Alex. She realized she didn't know if Jane said anything to her brothers about her depression. She hadn't asked him about it. Lisbon knew her brother's family would be overwhelming, but they were really a great family anyway.

"So, you ready for your brother and his family again, dear?" Jane asked grinning his big smile.

"I suppose, they're renting a car like last time and will come here so we don't have to pick them up." Lisbon admitted. "Am I going to handle them?"

"It'll be fine. They're a great family." Jane reassured.

"Ever since we've been together, I've seen him more than I have in years." Lisbon admitted.

"Because I said your brothers just missed you, they need to see you once in while. You're their sister and they want to see you." Jane said.

Lisbon put the baby down to nap and then she heard the knock on the door. She went to the door as Patrick followed her. She opened it up revealing her brother, wife, and their four children. "Stan, it's good to see you." Teresa smiled at her brother hugging him.

"It's good to see me?" Stan questioned.

"Of, course, you're my brother." Teresa answered back smiling.

"And Karen." Teresa said hugging her sister in law as well. The kids excitedly and impatiently waiting at the door.

"I remember you from last time." Annie Lou looked at her Uncle Patrick.

"I remember you too." Jane grinned at the girl. "You have a girl cousin like I said you would." The little girl smiled and hugged her uncle.

The older kids then excitedly ran into the house with Brian walking awkwardly following his siblings.

"Jason, Annie Lou, watch your brother. Make sure he doesn't wander too far." Stan called to his kids.

"Yes, daddy." Jason answered as he took his brother's hand. Karen was holding onto Paul and he was unassure of the new surroundings as he looked around. "Hi, Paul, you've gotten so big since we first met you. " Teresa said to the little baby who put his head down on his mother's chest. "How old is he now?" Lisbon asked looking at her sister in-law.

"10 months, it seems like yesterday, he was a newborn at the Christianing. Paul's shy. He gets that way when meeting new people and places." Karen said. "Where's your new little one?"

"She's asleep in the nursery." Lisbon admitted leading her brother and wife to the living room to be seated. .

"Kids," Karen said. "Remember to use your inside voices. Your Aunt Teresa and Uncle Patrick's baby's asleep." Karen reminded her children still yelling with excitement over being at the uncle and aunt's house.

"Yes, mommy." Annie Lou answered obediantly.

"I doubt she'll wake up by kids, she sleeps through anything. We've had a few heavy rainstorms with loud thunder and she slept through it." Jane described remembering the first night of the large storms. Teresa and him couldn't sleep during the constant rain, roaring wind, clashes of lightning and booming thunder. Teresa wanted to immediately check on the baby not wanting her to wake up because it took a long time to get her to sleep earlier in the night. They both went to the nursery and lo and behold Lisby was sleeping soundly amazingly through the noise.

"How is she sleeping through this storm?" Lisbon wondered looking at her baby girl.

"I don't know, she's our tough girl." Jane said smiling at his wife.

"That's definitely a good thing if a baby can sleep through the night even with storms." Stan noted.

"Paul hardly ever sleeps during the night and he hardly sleeps during storms." Karen said about her 10 month old baby.

Jane and Lisbon led Stan and Karen to the nursery to look at the baby who was sleeping soundly. "She's lovely, Teresa." Karen said admiring Lisby in the crib.

"She's beautiful." Stan said. "I'm astonished you had a girl with our family history of all mostly boys." Stan said to Teresa.

"It's my fault, since I've had a girl before." Jane grinned. "I'm the father, I'm responsible."

"I don't need to hear anymore"Stan refused with a cringe on his face not wanting to hearing about his sister's sex life and why Lisby came to be.

The adults headed back to the living room with Jane and Lisbon seated at the couch, and Karen and Stan in the two extra chairs in the living room while the two older kids were coloring on paper and coloring books on the kitchen table. Brian and Paul were playing with their toys in the middle of the living room. "So, T, how do you like having a break from work considering you're normally such a workaholic?" Stan asked.

"It's been nice but I do miss work. A couple of weeks ago I worked a little with helping a friend of mine keep safe from her ex-boyfriend. It's been a challenge adjusting to parenthood, even though I took care of you and your brothers, it's been a long time since I took care of someone." Lisbon admitted.

"But luckily, Teresa, you have your loving husband to help out cause don't you just love spending time with me?" Jane said grinning.

"Don't get too sure of yourself." Lisbon said teasingly.

"It's certainly been a challenge with each child. We've had four, but all of them have been different with their schedules. I certainly know what's it like." Karen admitted. "We're so happy for you two."

Annie Lou took off running from the table and up to Jane and Lisbon with a piece of paper showing several crayon colored stick figures and handed it to Jane. She looked at him and he observed her and knew instantly she wanted to sit in his lap. "You want to sit my in lap." She nodded positively and so he picked her up and placed her on his lap . Lisbon smiled at his willingness to bond with the little girl. She knew Stan's little girl must have reminded Patrick of Charlotte at that age, Annie Lou seemed to have a special bond with him. She knew the last time, Jane carried her at the zoo. Stan and Karen smiled at the scene as well. "What's this, Annie Lou?" Jane asked taking a hold of part of the paper. Lisbon managed to look at it too.

"This is my mommy, daddy, brothers." Annie pointed to the first few figures that ranged from the two large looking like a rough likeness of Stan and Karen to two smaller ones looking like Annie Lou and Jason to two tiny ones obviously looking like babies in the first half of the page. Then she pointed to two other figures looking roughly like Jane and Lisbon and the woman holding what appeared to be a baby with black hair. "This is you and Aunt Tresa, Uncle Patrick, and Baby Lisby."

"It's a very beautiful picture, Annie Lou." Jane said admiring the drawing.

"It's very nice, honey. Is this for us?" Lisbon said.

"Yes, because we're all family."Annie Lou answered.

"Yes, we are." Jane said smiling. "And what's this by your aunt." Jane asked pointing to black thing on stick figure Lisbon's waist.

"Oh, that's Auntie Tresa's gun because she's a cop and catches bad guys." Annie Lou grinned.

"Yes, she does." Jane grinned at his wife.

Karen looked at the adorable sight of Annie Lou showing her picture to her uncle and aunt. She loved the bond she was sharing with her Uncle Patrick. She had been aware of his tragedy of losing his first daughter at such a young age, close to Annie Lou's age by a serial killer. Stan had mentioned it to her after he learned it from Patrick when they painted the cabin. It seemed so unfathomable that anyone would kill an innocent little girl. She wouldn't know how to cope if something would happen to her children.

A few minutes later the adults talked a little more and Annie Lou still stayed on Jane's lap but fell asleep laying her head his chest. The sounds of Lisby crying interrupted them. Lisbon instantly heard the baby and rose up. "I guess I'll have to get her, since Patrick's pretty occupied." Lisbon said looking at her husband.

"I guess so." Jane said looking down at the little girl.

"Teresa, I can help you with anything you need." Karen said getting up as well. "What do you need?"

"I'll need someone to help with getting the bottle ready. We're using formula so Patrick can be involved." Lisbon admitted then she explained where everything was located in the kitchen and then she headed to the nursery to get the baby.

"It's great seeing you again, Stan." Jane said. "I don't think I'll be able to get up for a while." He said looking at Annie Lou.

"We may not be able to pull her away. She was so excited to come visit." Stan looked at his daughter sleeping on Jane. Jane grinned at the idea of the little girl's excitement. "I really love your daughter's name." Stan said grinning .

"I wasn't sure exactly how other people would react and especially you and your brothers, after I named her and got the birth certificate ready." Jane confessed.

"So, how did you come up with the name?" Stan asked looking at Jane. "It's not everyday someone names their child after their wife's maiden name."

"I just saw her and felt she embodied the essence of Teresa. Strong and beautiful." Jane said remembering his first look at his new baby girl 's features.

"You know about how your daughter's going to be?" Stan questioned.

"I have a feeling because she displays it. If she's her mother's daughter, she will be, I know it. Of course, she may share some of my qualities." Jane explained. "Another reason for the name is because of you and your brothers have accepted me in your family considering my past. I love being part of your family because I've never had such a extended family." Jane sighed happily and got a little teary eyed. It really was partly because of the Lisbon family as a whole, because the Lisbon boys didn't have to accept him as they did with his past. He felt grateful to have them as a family.

"Thank you, Patrick for the touching tribute to our family. It's really an honor for us." Stan said getting teary eyed. "It's my allergies." He said wiping his eye.

Teresa and Karen came back to the living room. Teresa held Lisby in her arms and sat back down next to her husband. She noticed both Stan and her husband teary eyed. "What's going on?You having a tearfest?"

"Stan, I thought you said that men don't cry." Karen said noticing the men's tears.

"It's allergies, Karen." Stan lied.

"What allergies? I don't recall you having any allergies." Karen smirked at her husband.

Stan immediately rose up and went by his sister holding his new niece. He looked at the baby closely sucking on the bottle and examined her features. "Oh, yes, she embodies the essence of you, Sis."

Lisbon looked at her brother confused at his words she knew he wouldn't say. "You don't say things like that, Stan."

"I said that, dear." Jane said grinning.

"Oh, really? Isn't that a little much, Patrick?"

"Well, it's true, dear. She's going to be like you." Jane said grinning.

"Stan, do you want to hold her?" Lisbon asked.

"Of course." Stan said carefully picking up Lisby from his sister's arms and sitting down.

"Hello, I'm your Uncle Stan. It's nice to have another girl in this family." Stan said to the baby. "You're a surprise for us."

The next day Stan and his family came back early afternoon to the cabin to visit. "Can I hold her?" Karen asked as Lisbon brought out the baby.

"Of course, she's pretty good with other people though she hasn't seen too many. Our friends from California came a couple of weeks ago though, we haven't had too many visitors. Jimmy did come visit us at the hospital, though." Lisbon explained. Lisbon then brought the baby to Karen who carefully sat down in the rocker chair. Brian was playing in the middle of the floor with his toys, while Paul was laying on a blanket with baby toys as well. Jane and Stan were sitting on the couch together talking. Lisbon went to sit in the other easy chair.

The kids were getting fairly bored with their toys and coloring books they brought. "Can we go somewhere?" Jason asked coming up to his dad. "I'm bored."

"Jason, maybe later. Just talk to your aunt and uncle." Stan said to his son. The kids wandered around the house. They watched Annie Lou go to the door and Jason followed his sister to see what she was doing.

"Uncle Patrick, Auntie Tresa, is this your kitty?" Annie Lou asked from the door.

"Yeah, is it your kitty?" Jason called out.

Lisbon was confused at what her niece and nephew were talking about. They certainly didn't have a cat. "What are you kids talking about?" Lisbon asked getting up from her chair and going to the door. Jane and Stan immediately got up and followed her to where the kids were looking out the door.

Lisbon went to the kids and looked at the calico colored kitten mewing for attention. "That is not our cat!" Lisbon exclaimed.

"Isn't it cute?" Jane said looking through the door at the cat.

"Daddy, can we keep it?" Jason asked his dad with pleading eyes.

"Can we, Daddy?" Annie Lou begged Stan with pleading eyes as well.

"We can't bring a cat back with us to Chicago?" Stan reminded his kids looking at them sternly.

"Maybe Uncle Patrick and Auntie Tresa can keep it for us?" Annie Lou stated looking at her dad again.

"I'm not keeping a cat. We can bring it to a shelter." Teresa said thinking practically.

"Oh, but, Teresa, look at it." Jane said looking at the kitten with its attention and food seeking green eyes. "How can you refuse eyes like those?" Jane begged.

Lisbon looked towards her husband. "I thought you didn't like cats? You put a cat in a safe once!" Lisbon reminded remembering the case of the locksmith and his wife who broke into LaRoche's safe.

"I never said I didn't like cats. Only Cho said he didn't like cats." Jane reminded.

"You put a cat in a safe?" Stan questioned and looked at Jane confused

"It was to prove a point for a case. I knew the owner could open it and she knew how to do it from watching her husband, who was a locksmith." Jane explained. "She got the cat out and it was perfectly fine."

"Patrick, we can't keep a pet with my job." Lisbon reminded.

"Cats are far easier to take care of than dogs." Jane reminded. "They basically take care of themselves as long as you put out food and water."

"Not a kitten. And besides, I'm not sure we can have one with a baby." Lisbon reminded.

"Uncle Patrick, do you have a box and a towel?" Annie Lou asked looking Jane. "My friend, Sally did that with her new puppy."

"I think I can manage to find one." Jane said going to one of the kitchen cupboards where they kept extra boxes. He pulled out an extra cardboard box from building the cabin. He saved some of the smaller ones, thinking he might need them. He took out the closet an old towel that Teresa brought from Washington and California he knew.

"Really, you're going to take care of it?" Lisbon said watching him get out the makeshift cat bed.

"Annie Lou wants to take care of it while she's here." Jane said. "You do realize our daughter may want a pet in the future when she's Annie Lou's age."

"Jane, that's in the future, not now." Lisbon reminded. Jane became silent as if he was remembering something.

"Daddy, can we please get a kitty or a doggy?" Charlotte begged looking at her dad before he left to appear on the tv show.

"Honey, you should ask your mommy about it." Patrick said. "I have to go to work."

"I asked her. She said I can." Charlotte answered with pleading eyes.

"Okay, fine, next week we can go to a shelter and you can pick out one." Patrick promised.

"I promised Charlotte the week after she died that we would pick out a pet at the shelter." Jane remembered. "Don't worry, I'm not guilting you into anything. That memory just came to me."

"I'm sorry." Lisbon said hearing about something he never got to do with his little girl. She never worried when he talked about Charlotte or Angela. He tended to talk about Charlotte more with her. They were a part of his past, so she didn't really mind when he talked about decided she was going to give in to him wanting to keep the cat since he wanted to fulfill a promise to his late daughter and and help out his niece and nephew since they couldn't take the cat themselves. They'd have to figure out taking care of a cat as well as the baby."But Jane, I know nothing about cats. I only know dogs. We have to get it food, I do know that much."

"You're going to help Annie Lou?" Jane questioned.

"Yes, I'll go with you." Lisbon said taking a hold of the box with him and bringing it out to the kids still looking at the kitten through the door.

"Yay, I'll put it out." Annie Lou said grabbing the box. Jason followed his sister and they opened the door. They watched the kids set the box down while the kitten rubbed against their legs while purring and mewing. The kids pet the cat during the process and the cat loved the attention. " We got a bed just for you, kitty." Annie Lou said talking to the kitten.

"Do you think it's somebody's cat." Lisbon asked. "We may have to put up fliers." She was still going to be practical about the possibility of somebody missing their cat.

"I doubt it's somebody's cat. Why would it get this far out of town? Somebody must have dumped it here." Jane said.

"Uncle Patrick, we need to get food for it." Annie Lou came back inside.

"Then, we better get some food for it, Annie Lou." Jane told the little girl.

Lisbon came back to see Karen still holding Lisby. "She's such a calm baby, Teresa." Karen said. "So, Annie Lou found a kitten at your door?"

"I guess. I don't know what to do with a cat." Lisbon said taking a seat on the couch.

"Welcome to the joys of parenthood. Our kids have had hamsters, fish, lizards, bugs even." Karen described. "Though we haven't broke down for a real pet like a cat or dog. They've wanted one. I'm sure this little girl will eventually want one when she's older." Karen said looking at the baby.

"Patrick just mentioned it." Lisbon said.

Jane came back into the living where the women were sitting and Brian and Paul. "So, Stan, Annie Lou, Jason, and I are going to go into town to get some cat food."

"Really? We still may need to see if it's somebody's cat. And we may have to get a vet to look at it if we do keep it." Lisbon said. She came up to the door and waved bye to her brother, husband, and niece and nephew going to town.

Stan, Jane and the kids took off in Stan's rental van. Stan pulled out of the road and headed towards town. "So, Patrick, did you expect you'd gain a pet? Sorry about the kids." Stan apologized. "They've wanted a cat or dog for a while now."

"It's alright, they're kids, they love animals. I think the kitten's pretty cute." Jane said.

Stan found the large pet store and the kids excitedly went to the door. "Don't run, kids. Stay close!" Stan said trying to keep his kids from going ahead of him and Jane. They went in the store and scoured the aisles looking for the cat food. . "May I help you?" The teenaged boy clerk came up to them.

"A kitten just came at my door and we need some food for it." Jane said observing the teenager.

"Are these your kids?" The teenager asked Jane pointing to Annie Lou and Jason.

"They're mine."Stan answered.

"I'm their uncle." Jane said.

The teenaged boy led the kids, Stan and Jane to the cat food aisle and showed them to a bag of a brand of kitten food he suggested. They grabbed the bag and put it in a basket and the kids immediately saw the cat toys. "Oh, we need a toy for it to play with." Annie Lou said holding up a long feather toy.

"I'm even more sorry, Patrick." Stan said looking at Jane. "The joy of kids."

"I know about kids. Charlotte wanted a puppy or a kitten too when she was alive. She begged for weeks for one when I finally caved in and said I would take her to a shelter." Jane explained surprising himself telling the story to Stan Lisbon. "But it never happened." Jane said sadly.

"Sorry." Stan said.

"Don't be." Jane said.

Annie Lou came up to her dad. "Can we get this for the kitty?"

"Oh, fine, put it in the basket." Stan said. Along with the food and the cat toy, they also ended up getting a couple of bowls for water and the food. Annie Lou convinced them of getting the kitten its own bowls. The clerk did explain a cat would need a litter box, cat litter, a scratching post, a carrier as well. Jane bought and paid for the rest of the necessities while Stan paid for the toy, the food and bowls.

The two men and the children arrived back home and the kids excitedly went up the stairs of the porch and saw the kitten sleeping in the box on the porch. The men followed the kids up the stairs smiling.

"It's so cute sleeping." Annie Lou said. "Let's put the food in the bowls." She grabbed the bowls out of the bags and set them on the porch beside the kitten. Jane took the bag of food out of the sack. "Here's the food." He carefully opened the bag knowing the little girl would spill it everywhere if she tried to open it. She took it from him and Stan helped her pour it in the bowl. The cat woke up and instantly went to the food and started nibbling on it hurriedly like it was starving.

Lisbon heard the car and the kids outside. "Sounds like they're back." Lisbon said to Karen as she put Lisby down in the crib.

"Yes, I hear the little rascals." Karen said picking up Paul while Lisbon grabbed Brian to bring out.

She watched her niece excitedly feed the cat. Oh, well, she guessed she had a cat now. She didn't know where to keep it though. She was sure Jane would figure it out. She decided to go ahead and come out with Karen following.

"What is all that?" Lisbon asked seeing the bags of cat supplies the men hadn't unloaded and a carrier. "I thought you only went to get cat food." She questioned seeing the bowl with cat food in it.

"Well, we got other necessities for a cat." Jane admitted sheepishly. Lisbon rolled her eyes.

"With kids, you never leave with just what you came in for." Karen said smirking.

"Usually with Patrick too." Lisbon said "He always gets something extra."

"Aunt Tresa, we got some food for the kitty." Annie Lou said.

"And bowls and a toy." Jason said excitedly.

"That's good. I'm sure it will be happy." Lisbon said. "Does it have a name yet?"

"I don't know." Annie Lou said.

The cat started rubbing against Lisbon's legs She looked down at the spotted kitten. "Okay, what's it doing?"

"She's claiming you." Jane said grinning. "She likes you."

"How do you know it's a she?" Lisbon asked.

"Because calico cats are usually females." Jane said. Lisbon looked at him confused to why he knew something about cats. She usually saw him respond to dogs.

"The kitty likes Aunt Tresa." Annie Lou said grinning and going over to pet the kitten again.

"I see that." Lisbon said unsure of how to respond to a cat liking her.

"I'm sorry about the kids, T." Stan apologized.

"Don't worry about them. It's that big kid over there's fault." Lisbon shook her head looking at her husband who was with the kids playing with the kitten with the feather toy. The cat responded to it by grabbing it.

"I have a name, Aunt Tresa!" Annie Lou came up to Lisbon. She looked at the little girl.

"What?" Lisbon asked bending down to her niece.

"The kitty's name is Pumpkin." Annie Lou said excitedly.

"That's a very good name, Annie Lou." Jane said.

"Yes, it's a cute name for a cat." Lisbon said looking at the cat.

The next day Jane called the nearest vet clinic to go to look at the cat and Annie Lou wanted to go with him before they left the day after. Annie Lou excitedly entered the back seat of Jane and Lisbon's car. She buckled up right away. Jason decided to stay behind with his family and Lisbon.

"You sure you want to keep a cat, Patrick?" Lisbon asked going to Jane at the window of the car.
"Yes, I do. She's a cute little thing." Jane said.

"Make sure you ask about how to take care of a cat with the baby. Is it safe?" Lisbon asked.

"I think it'll be fine." Jane said. "You just take the same precautions as you would normally with a baby."

"I leave you responsible for the cat." Lisbon scolded.

"Of course, dear." Jane said. "See you later." He pulled out of the driveway. Annie Lou was talkative the entire time their way talking about going to school and her friends to the vet and also checking the cat in the carrier during the time. He didn't know why the little girl had such a attachment to him. Maybe because of the time he held her at the zoo when her parents couldn't. She did remind him of Charlotte at times, although she still had her own personality. "Uncle Patrick, Daddy said you had another little girl once."

"Yes, I did, but she died." Jane admitted. It was common knowledge and not as difficult to talk about.

"Oh." Annie Lou said. "So, you miss her?"

"Sometimes, but I'm very happy with my new baby girl." Jane responded. "How's the kitty back there?" Jane asked.

"She's a little scared but she's okay." Annie Lou responded.

Annie Lou and Jane arrived at the vet clinic with Pumpkin and walked in and up to the front desk. "May I help you?" The receptionist asked.

"I'm Patrick Jane, I'm waiting for one of the vets. I made an appointment this morning." Jane said.

"Oh, yes, you called in. Dr. Kim will be ready for you soon." The clerk said.

Jane went back to the waiting room carrying the cat carrier and set it down. "How's Pumpkin?" He asked Annie Lou.

"I think the kitty's scared of going to the doctor." Annie Lou looked in the carrier. "I get scared too, Pumpkin, going to the doctor." Jane smiled at the little girl talking to the kitten.

A vet's assistant came in the waiting room and noticed Jane and Annie Lou waiting. "Dr. Kim is ready for you."

Jane took the carrier with Annie Lou skipping behind him. They set the carrier on the table in the middle of the room. Annie Lou looked around the room at the posters with cat and dog breeds. "What kind of cat is Pumpkin?"

"I don't know. Maybe a mix." Jane responded. Jane carefully opened the carrier and the cat came out. Jane tried to keep the cat on the table and Annie Lou watched and petted the kitty. "It's okay, kitty, don't be scared."

The door opened and an Asian woman in her late thirties or possibly early forties came in. "Hello, I'm Dr. Lily Kim. So, we have a stray?"

"Yes, indeed came at my front door. We live way out in the country." Jane said.

"Yes, I've seen a few lately." Dr. Kim said. "Is this your little girl?" Dr. Kim noticed Annie Lou also.

"She's my niece, my wife's brother's family is visiting." Jane said. "I do have a daughter a few weeks old."

"Oh, I bet this little kitten was a surprise." Dr. Kim took over for Jane keeping the kitten in line who was trying to get off the table.

"We saw it at the door. It was so hungry." Annie Lou said. "We got food for it."

"That's good you got it food." Dr. Kim said.

"Daddy won't let us take it back to Chicago on the plane." Annie Lou said sadly with a pout on her face.

"Your uncle's going to help you take care of it." Dr. Kim. Said.

"Yes." Annie Lou said excitedly.

Dr. Kim examined the kitten and gave the needed shots of distemper and feline leukemia. She explained about caring for a kitten. She gave a little pamphlet to Annie Lou. "Here you keep this for your uncle. And this." She gave another bag of kitten food to Annie Lou.

Jane observed the doctor. "I can tell you're a busy person and that keeps you from enjoying a personal life. You hope for one, though."

"How'd you know that?" Dr. Kim asked of Jane's observation.

"Just very good at observing people. Part of my job. You might like to meet my friend Kimball." Jane said. Dr. Kim ignored Jane's reading and suggestion and looked at him confused.

"Thank you for bringing the kitten. We should see her back in a month for a spay and another shot for rabies."

"Thank you very much, Dr. Kim." Jane said shaking the doctor's hand.

"Enjoy the kitten while you can." Dr. Kim told Annie Lou and smiling at her and walked out the door..

I know that some of the comments have been unsure of the name I chose. I was going to think about other names. To tell you the truth, I didn't want a really common name where there's several children in a classroom with the same name and I think it's in character for Jane to think outside of the box on names too. As I've said before, my mom has helped with ideas in this story. She inspired me to write the conversation with Stan and Jane about the name. This will be the last time I write about why he named her and this is more of the full reason.

I really did have a calico kitten show up at my door recently and so I got inspiration from that for the second part of this chapter with the cat. I love writing Stan's children, at least the two older ones espcially the girl so I like having them be a big part of my story and I love writing Jane with kids.
