#26- That feeling of being happy

Diane was so thrilled when she saw him park down the street to pick her up that evening which should've been one of the most important evenings in a woman's life.
He had barely parked before he saw Diane standing in the doorway with a big smile on her lips, tears in her eyes and dressed in a white one-piece suit. When he finally was standing in front of her, he took her hand and kissed it gently which lead her to chuckle and cry more than before.
"My lady?"
He made space for her arm to get under his. He escorted her the few meters to his car. Through the whole car ride she smiled like never before. And Sam himself hadn't been that happy in months.
He never thought he would ever come to feel better than what he was feeling when their lips touched on the boat. But he was wrong. Because only months from that incident he felt like he hadn't been happier his entire life yet again. And that was the moment Diane ran into his arms when they had officially become engaged and he knew that she was his for real this time.

He thought he would beat that moment with an even happier moment. Unfortunately that moment never came to happen.

#27- A costumer's wonder

One quiet Tuesday evening near closing time, Sam and Carla were the only ones left in the bar. Except one other man.
"Excuse me?" The man said.
"Yeah?" Sam answered.
"Where's your waitress?"
"She's in the backroom cleaning up. She'll be right-"
"No, no, not her. The blonde one."
"Excuse me?"
"Yeah, the one who always talks much."
"Sorry, she- she's not here anymore,"
was the only thing Sam managed to say.
The man finished his drink.
"Oh well, too bad. I actually liked her. She was something 'out of the ordinary'."
The man put down his glass and some tips on the table and left without another word.
"Yeah, she was," Sam whispered to an empty bar.

#28- Three little words

Diane was sure Sam meant it this time. This time there had been no pressure or what so ever. She had let him go, said that she didn't hold him to the proposal. But apparently he wanted otherwise.
So did she. She didn't think that they had ever hugged as long as they did in that courtroom.
They didn't say anything in minutes. They just hugged. Then she began to kiss him on his neck and slowly she moved her lips upwards until she reached his lips. She paused, completely paralyzed and then Sam leaned in for a passionate kiss. She tried to hold the tears back but she knew she couldn't.
When Sam broke the kiss, Diane tilted her head just as she did the night on the boat. Then she broke out in laughter.
"Are- are you alright?" Sam asked.
She tilted her head again and looked him right in the eyes.
"What made you change your mind?"
"Well, I just thought this has gone on for far too long, don't you?"
"I really had begun to believe you, you know?"
"You had?"
"Yes. What you said yesterday made me wonder if I for once was wrong. You meant what you said, Sam. I know you meant it. I really thought it was all over. That I had lost. So please, Sam, will you please tell me, what made you change your mind? I was just about to leave and then you stopped me?"
"To be rejected hurts, Diane, but to lose the woman you love hurts even more."
"S-s-Sam?"
"Yeah?"
"Y-you said you loved me!"
"I did?"
"Yes, you did!"
"Well, I guess it doesn't hurt to tell the truth once in a while."
"Oh, Sam!"
she cried.
And once again, she was back in his arms. The place where she belonged.
"I never wanna lose you again," he whispered.
"And you never shall," she said and kissed him.

#29- Damn the love songs

Sam Malone was a man who loved the whole concept of music. He usually listened to Rock 'n' Roll, but he also quite liked to sit down and listen to music that also fit his mood. That was until a bunch of sad love songs hit his face at the wrong time. These kinds of songs had never bothered him before. Probably because he never really had listened closely to the lyrics. But one rainy evening where he was on his way home, he did. He turned the car radio's volume up and listened closely to the last stanza of the song.

So take a look at me now, well, there's just an empty space
And there's nothing left here to remind me - just the memory of your face

Now, take a look at me now 'cause there's just an empty space

But to
wait for you is all I can do and that's what I've got to face
Take a good look at me now 'cause I'll still be standing here

And you coming back to me is against all odds - it's the chance I've got to take

And that was exactly how Sam felt at that time. Just as the memories he wanted to forget so badly, the songs would keep haunting him. And there was nothing he could do about it. But to wait.

#30- Dealing with it

They laughed together, they kissed and it made her sick. Carla Tortelli simply couldn't wait to see when it all would turn around and they would be sick of each other. And eventually they did.

The break-up was just around the corner. She could feel it. But why didn't she feel as happy as she should be? The answer to that she would find out after the break-up. As happy as she was that she FINALLY had gotten rid of the Stick, she saw what a devastating affect it had on her dear buddy, Sam. And it nearly made her vomit. How could he become that obsessed with this woman that it made him go back to boozing? What made her so special?
Carla never found out. But one thing she knew was that they one day would end up together again. Just as they always did. And to be honest, it didn't bother her anymore after seeing Sam go into this sex-therapy group. She only wanted what's best for him. And that took her over a decade to realize that only one person could make Sam happy for the rest of his life. And that was her old enemy, Diane Chambers.
