"Are you gonna tell her?" I asked, after Daryl cut the engine to the bike.
"Yea." He muttered quietly, as we got off the bike. I gave him a quick nod, before heading inside. I walked past the others, not bothering to say anything. I bounded up the stairs and walked over to the cell that Daryl and I had been sharing. Stripping out of my dirty clothes, I changed into clean ones hurriedly, before lying down on the cot. Sighing, I closed my eyes and tried to clear my mind.
What a day... I thought, the images of Zach, the sound of his screams, swirling in my head. It had been difficult, leaving him like that... But we didn't have much of a choice. The building was coming down, walkers were everywhere... We had walked right into a potential trap and never saw it coming. One little wrong move almost killed us all. The roof rotting had been pure bad luck, no one's fault, no way of knowing what would take place. No way to have prevented it. Unfortunately, those were the risks we had to take in order to make it out here. In order to survive.
Footsteps below caught my attention, and I listened. My cell was quiet, the only noise was the footsteps now coming up the stairs, and hushed voices below that I could barely even hear. The sound of, who I was fairly certain was Daryl approaching, grew a little louder as he reached the cell bars. It was silent, and I opened my eyes to see him looking down at me from outside our cell. "How'd it go?" I asked, not bothering to sit up.
"Better than I expected." Daryl replied, stepping inside. He moved the sheet to give us privacy. "Didn't shed a tear. Said she don't cry no more."
"Can you blame her? It's easier that way sometimes." I mumbled, rolling over to face the wall.
"You good?"
"I'm good." I glanced back at him. "You gonna come here or what?"
"Hn." He grunted before laying down beside me on the cot.
"You need a shower." I rolled toward him.
"I ain't takin' one this late." He muttered, and I laughed.
"I'll join." I offered, and he narrowed his eyes.
"Fine, but take any longer than five minutes.. I'll leave your ass in there."
"Five minutes is all we need." I smiled, climbing over him. "Come on, before the kids take theirs!" I ran out of the cell block and down to the showers. Choosing one at the end, I grinned when Daryl came around the corner, his expression seemingly not impressed. I pulled the curtain around to cover me, as I stripped out of my clothes. Daryl prepared the water, and before I knew it, he was under the water with me.
"Happy?"
"Oh, I'm thrilled." I grinned, grabbing his wet face. I kissed him hard, pressing my body into his.
"De-stress?" He mumbled against my lips as we kissed.
"No.." I broke the kiss, my eyes meeting his. "I just want you close." I whispered, on my tip toes to kiss him again. He leaned down to me, his arms holding me tight against him. Rough hands felt their way from my back to my hips, as the kiss became a little rough again. His thumbs pressed into my hip bones, and I felt chills run up my arms at his touch. Smiling against his lips, I let him walk me backwards, pushing me against the wall.
"Can arrange that..." He said gruffly, his lips leaving mine to trail kisses down my neck. I let out a quiet moan, my fingers tangling in his hair. His touch was like fire, the cool room and our wet bodies not enough to chill me.
"I love you so much." I whispered against his ear, as his hand left my hip, moving lower.
"I know." He countered, his voice almost a growl.
"Daryl..." I said breathlessly, as his finger moved in slow teasing circles. My hands were under his arms, grasping his shoulders for support. I bit my lip to keep quiet, my hushed whimpers only heard by his ear. Suddenly, he shifted, moving his hand away from me. Grabbing my left leg, he propped it against his hip, holding it in place as he entered me. I grabbed his face quickly in my hands, kissing him hard.
Daryl let my leg go, but I kept it in place, as he moved once again, this time shifting my body upward slightly. I lifted my other leg and locked them around his waist. His left hand was flat on the wall, supporting himself, his right on my lower back to support me. He moved against me, and I kissed his chin, moving slowly to trail my lips along his jaw. Dixon cringed slightly, as I kissed down to his neck and shoulder. I moved my hand to the back of his neck, my fingers tangling in his hair as I raised my head to look at him.
Pulling softly, I earned a light tilting of his head, his blue green eyes burning into mine. Before I could move to kiss him again, his head dipped and his lips were on my throat. He thrust against me harder, my back pressing into the wall. I inhaled sharply, my stomach tightening. My legs were shaky, and I held onto him as his body rocked against mine. His stubble prickled at my neck, and I felt the pressure building.
I rolled my hips gently to meet his thrusts, as my breathing became heavier. A quiet moan escaped my lips, and he kissed me quickly to help shut me up. The tightening of my stomach was at its peak, as he pressed me harder into the wall. "Daryl.." I broke the kiss, my mouth near his ear again. "Daryl, don't..stop, don't ever..stop." My words were barely above a whisper, and I moved quickly to kiss him again to keep myself quiet as a wave of pleasure flooded through me.
My body shuddered, and he continued moving inside me as he gave me my release. Little gasps and whimpers left my lips against his, as he forced me to ride out my orgasm. My nails dug into his shoulders, my body shaking like a leaf as I started to come down from the high he gave me. His lips left mine, and his teeth grazed my shoulder as he finished, his movements ceasing. He rested his head on my shoulder, still holding me up, and I kissed the side of his head softly.
Lifting his head, he pecked my lips quickly, before pulling out of me and allowing me to drop my legs. Daryl steadied me a bit, his hands on my hips. I gave him a grin, leaning up to kiss him again. The kiss was gentle and loving, something I had become a little more accustomed to since he had begun showing his softer side to me. He let me go, breaking our kiss, and stepped over to where our towels were laying. Grabbing them up, he brought mine to me.
I took it from him and began drying myself off. I caught his eyes skimming over my body, and I gave him a playful smirk. He snorted lightly, causing me to laugh at his expression. I threw my towel at him, and he caught it with one hand, raising an eyebrow slightly. "Nice catch, Dixon." I purred, stepping past him to snatch up my clothes. I got dressed quite fast, watching him do the same. Once he finished, we left the shower area and headed back to our cell. Halfway up the stairs, I turned to look down at him behind me.
"What?" He asked gruffly, his eyes on mine.
"Nothin'." I said sweetly, turning back to walk up the stairs. Imma lucky girl, that's all...
It's been a long day.." I mumbled sleepily, my face buried against Daryl's neck. I had forgotten what it felt like to be somewhat clean, and it was a beautiful thing that we had at the prison.
"Mhm."
"Everything's fallin' into place, don't you think?" I asked quietly, my eyes closed. I lifted my right hand to draw lazy circles along his chest. "This could be real."
"Could be." He agreed.
"Goodnight, Dixon." I whispered, snuggling closer to him. I felt him kiss my head gently, and I was out.
POP! POP! My eyes snapped open, and I sat straight up.
"HELP! HELP!" I could hear the girls screaming faintly, along with others. Daryl was not there, and I jumped up, forcing my boots on hurriedly. I grabbed my gun and knife, shoving my gun in the small of my back, secured by my jeans. Running out of our cell, I bounded down the stairs and toward Daryl, who was checking the gates to the tombs.
"Daryl?" I asked worriedly, sleep thick in my voice.
"I dunno, come on!" He growled, as we ran outside.
"I DON'T KNOW!" I heard Rick yell, the sunlight blinding me as I ran toward the noise.
"WALKERS IN D!" Glenn called, his tone panicked.
"WHAT ABOUT C?" Rick screamed.
"Clear!" Sasha confirmed, explaining that the gates were locked and Hershel was guarding our block.
"It ain't a breach!" Daryl assured.
"We followed the plan!" Sasha said, as we ran toward cell block D. Daryl was first one in, and I was right beside him. The scene before me woke me up real quick and in a hurry. It was complete chaos.
People were screaming, walkers were attacking. Others were running, scrambling to get their kids and get out of the cell block. I held my knife with a tight grip, running halfway up the steps in front of me to help guide the others down without incident. "Go, GO, GO!" I pushed them gently past, making sure no walkers would be trailing them. The last woman ran down, and I grabbed her arm. "Anyone else up there?"
"No, no.. I don't think so! Not alive..anyway.." She was crying.
"All right... Okay, go, go!" I nodded, and she ran down the steps, Rick waving her out of the block.
"Are we clear down here?" Rick yelled.
"Yeah!"
"Safe?" Rick called out again.
"Yeah!"
"Yeah!"
"Stay down here." Daryl darted past me up the stairs.
"I'll wait at the top." I argued, following him to the top of the stairs. He gave me a slight glare, before continuing on. Rick came up the steps quietly, following Daryl. I watched from the top of the stairs, ready if I was needed. I saw the walker before Glenn, but before I could scream a warning, it was on him.
"DOWN!" I heard Daryl's voice. I stood on my tip toes, my heart pounding, as he sent an arrow through the monster's head. Letting out a breath, I lowered myself back down flat on my feet. Rick helped Glenn up, and he muttered a "thanks" to the sheriff, who moved back the sheet covering the cell before him. "Oh, it was Patrick..." He mumbled something else I couldn't quite make out. The guys made sure the bodies upstairs were not going to come back. "Spence?"
"Yeah? You good?" I asked, but even at my place by the stairs, I could see the concern on his face.
"Get Hershel, Doc... Bob." Rick instructed, and I ran down stairs. I gathered the three men up.
"Rick needs you guys..." I led them into D and up the stairs.
"Stay back!" Daryl warned me, holding his hand up. I gave him a confused expression, and he shook his head. The three doctors walked into one of the cells, and I could hear them talking, but their voices were too low to make out exactly what they were saying.
"The hell happened in here?" I asked, as Daryl walked back toward me, crossbow in hand.
"Kid got sick, Patrick." Daryl muttered.
"Sick?"
"Could be a few different things." Bob walked up. "All I know is...it's pretty bad. We're all at risk being in here, we all could be-"
"Exposed." I finished, taking a breath. "All right, what now? Quarantine?"
"We need to keep the exposed away from the others."
"Let's go talk about this, figure up a plan." I nodded, walking toward the steps. We left the block and met up to talk to the others. Daryl sat down backward in a chair and I stood behind him.
"Patrick was fine yesterday," Carol said, looking around at us, "and he died overnight. Two people died that quick? We'll have to separate everyone that's been exposed."
"That's everyone in that cell block." Daryl spoke, and I sighed. "That's all of us..maybe more."
"He's right.. Dependin' on what this is we're dealin' with, anyone could be carryin' it by now." I agreed, looking to Hershel.
"We know that this sickness can be lethal." Hershel explained. "We don't know how easily it spreads. Is anyone else showin' symptoms that we know of?"
"Can't just wait and see." Carol said surely. "There's children. It isn't just the illness, people die, they become a threat."
"We need a place for them to go." Hershel said. "They can't stay in D. We can't risk goin' in there to clean it up."
"We can use cell block A." Carol suggested.
"Death row." Glenn didn't sound to thrilled about the idea. "I'm not sure that's much of an upgrade."
"It ain't gotta be death row anymore..." I gave Glenn a reassuring look. "It can just be cell block A."
"It's clean," Daryl offered. "That's an upgrade. Think that'll work for Dr. S?"
"I'll help Caleb get it set up." Hershel replied, when suddenly we heard coughing. The others began standing, only to find Tyreese walking Karen down the hall.
"You okay?" I heard him ask.
"Mmhmm." She mumbled, before coughing again.
"You sure?" Carol asked, stepping out into the hall. "You don't sound so good."
"I'm just takin' her back to my cell so she can rest." Ty explained.
"Tyreese," Hershel looked at him, "I don't think that's a good idea."
"Why, what's goin' on now?" Karen asked, her face etched with concern.
"We think it's a flu or something." Glenn informed, and I looked down at my boots. "It's how Patrick died."
"Judith is in that cell block." Hershel explained. "She's vulnerable.. Anyone that may be sick, or even exposed, should stay away."
"I-i-it killed Patrick?" She stammered.
"No, she's gonna be okay." Ty was trying to comfort her. "Now that we know what Patrick died from, we can treat it, right?"
"Don't panic, we're going to figure this out." Hershel replied calmly. "But we should keep you separated in the meantime. We'll have Caleb take a look at you, I'll see what we have in the way of medications."
"David, from the Decatur group, he's been coughing, too." She admitted.
"I-I'll get him." Glenn offered. "There's some, uh, empty clean cells in the tombs, right?"
"Yeah, we'll meet you there." Sasha called to him as he walked away.
"Okay."
"Come on," Sasha walked over to her brother and his girlfriend, "let's get you settled."
"We'll have to call another meeting later." Hershel said, as they walked away.
"All right... I'll get to buryin' the dead ones." Daryl mumbled.
"You wear gloves and a mask." Hershel instructed.
"Uh, huh." Daryl started to walk away.
"I'll help." I went to follow him.
"Nah, uh, I don't want you around all that." Dixon fussed, and I snorted.
"If anything, she has the best chance of not catchin' this. After she got sick before, her immune system should be built up... That's not a guarantee, but it's possible. Just depends on what this sickness is." Hershel explained, watching us.
"At least let me supervise or somethin'." I tilted my head and he smirked.
"Fine, fine... Come on, girl."
