After catching Neko up on what happened with Jack'O Rot, the group began searching Bass'ken Lake for their captain. Sounds of distant arguing were heard and they followed the voices. "People could've been hurt or worse because of you!" The group heard their captain shout. "What are a few lives compared to progress. You witnessed the power of our experiment, imagine when we can harness it!" The voice of Doctor Skull reasoned. "You can't harness it! That thing wrecked half of Bass'ken Lake! You can't expect anything different to come from messing with forces you can't control!" Yoshi exclaimed. "Hmph, and that is the problem with the simple minded like you... you give up on whatever you see as impossible. If you don't chase the impossible, you can never grasp it." The J-corp scientist lectured. "That line of thinking will get you and those around you killed." Yoshi warned. A short silence followed. "Labtech Nine, we're leaving. Work is to be done." Doctor Skull ordered. "As you say, boss!" Labtech Nine said.
~ Ch.6: Saving Buzzkill
It was at the point of the J-corp duo's departure when Yoshi was finally spotted. "Hey, Yoshi!" Neko called as he ran over. Yoshi barely had time to turn around before the feline noogied him. "Ack! Neko, let me go!" Yoshi said as he tried shielding his head with his arms. "All right. So who were you talking to? And what was that convo about?" Neko asked as he let the pirate go. Yoshi was silent with a serious look. "He was the creator of the pumpkin monster we faced." Yoshi stated. "And the pumpkin we fought was not the only one they made." Brim stated. Everyone recoiled in shock at that information. "You... you can't be serious!" Remmy said. "As important as this information is, we can talk about how to deal with it later." Diesel stated. "At the moment we need to get Wendy. The life of an animated who helped us may be on the line." The mech informed. "Buzzkill... he was in bad shape when we last saw him!" Nina recalled. "Wait, that oversized drillbit?! He helped you guys?!" Neko exclaimed. "He was one of the biggest threats during the fight against the animated!" He continued. "Neko, go get Wendy." Yoshi ordered. "What?" Neko exclaimed again. "Maybe Buzzkill calmed along with the other animated." Yoshi reasoned. "Indeed he did." Stated a voice from behind the group. Turning around, the group saw a big buzzsaw. "Oh! It's you again!" Nina said with a smile as she recognized the saw that saved her earlier. "Papa Saw, it's been awhile." Yoshi stated much to the surprise of Nina, Diesel and Remmy. "You know this sawblade?" Remmy asked. Papa saw chuckled. "We've had a few fights in the past. Believe I was the first animated ya couldn't beat on yer own." Papa said with a bit of a bragging tone. Yoshi thought back to his battles at the sawmill. "Yeah, you were tough when I first fought you. Brim and I had defeated countless animated before we got to you. But you were too strong to take on alone." The pirate said. He then turned to Neko. "Go get Wendy. If Buzzkill's in real bad shape the least we could do is help him."
Over at Gold beach, the group of Ethan, Wendy and the sandcastle golems were perplexed to see all the advancing animated stop in their tracks. The yellow glow of the animated's eyes and mouths faded away before they all looked around themselves in confusion. They then scattered in different directions along Gold Beach. One of the sandcastle golems let out a hum. "It seems the affliction on our kingdom has lifted!" He said. "Huzzah!" The others cheered. "Huzzah..." Ethan half heartedly joined in. The sandcastle golems then began sinking away into the ground. "Until next we meet, Sir Ethan and Madam Wendy. May our next encounter rest on peaceful times." The sandcastle golem with a sword arm said with a bow. With the sandcastle golems gone, Ethan let out a sigh. "Uncle Ethan, you don't look like you enjoyed their company." Wendy observed. Ethan sulked a bit. "They remind me of the history classes I had back in school." He lamented. "Bleh! Hated history classes." Neko said as he emerged from a shadow. "Neko!" Ethan and Wendy said in surprise. "What happened at Bass'ken Lake? Where are the others?" Ethan questioned. "Long story, tell ya later. Right now we've got a new ally down who needs healing." Neko informed.
Without wasting time, Neko brought Ethan and Wendy to the others of the Durem Pirates crew. They were all waiting with Papa Saw by where Buzzkill rested on the ground. Wendy gasped at the sight of the fallen drill. The cracks along his body had widened since his battle against Jack'O Rot. "What... happened to him?" Wendy asked. "That experiment the labtech mentioned turned out to be stronger and more dangerous than we thought." Diesel stated. "A little fluff did this!" Ethan shouted in shock. "There was nothing little about that thing!" Remmy exclaimed. "No, it was big in the beginning but then it grew even bigger and transformed! And you would not believe the form it took!" The zurg ranted. Yoshi let out a loud cough. "How about we work on healing Buzzkill? With his size, those cracks will just keep growing if not dealt with." The pirate pointed out with worry. "R-right! I'm on it." Wendy said as she moved toward Buzzkill. Raising her staff, she began channeling a great amount of light magic. "Don't push yourself too much." Nina said in worry at the amount of magic being focused. "She can handle this." Ethan said with confidence. "You sure? Has she ever healed a giant being like Buzzkill?" Remmy questioned. The light magic Wendy focused began drifting to Buzzkill and was absorbed into him. "She was one of the mages that healed the forest around the mage village back when it first burned. Despite her young age, her healing arts are on par with some the greatest healers ever to live among the village. She is a true prodigy." Ethan said with great pride. The cracks around Buzzkill began to glow a faint white as they slowly began to shrink. "She can do it." Ethan stated once more. The glow within the cracks began spreading all over Buzzkill until he was engulfed by it.
As the light shining from Buzzkill faded, he slowly lifted himself up. "What happened? Where is that damn pumpkin?!" Buzzkill demanded as he looked around. "Long gone." Diesel stated as he approached the giant drill. "Long gone? As in escaped or defeated?" Buzzkill questioned. "He was... worse than defeated." Nina stated. "He was eaten alive by a flock of flying giftboxes." The nightfright informed. Almost everyone in the group flinched at hearing that. "Yikes... that is a fate I would not wish on anyone." Neko said. Yoshi nodded his head in agreement. "Those giftboxes were nightmare fuel to those new to the Bass'ken Lake area back in the fight of the animated." The pirate stated. "Heh, try livin in the same area with em." Papa Saw stated. A sound of drilling filled the air and the group turned to see Buzzkill burrowing underground. "Guess he be goin back to sleep." Papa Saw observed. "We should be going as well." Yoshi said with a grin. "We simply came back to gather supplies. But this was an interesting adventure." The pirate continued. "T'was nice to see ya again pirate." Papa Saw stated. Yoshi gave the saw a thumbs up. "Next time let's hope it doesn't involve an abomination of science." He joked. "Indeed." Papa Saw said before buzzing off." The group watched the saw zoom away before turning and making their way to Barton.
Unnoticed by the group, a black vine crawled out of the hole Buzzkill dug up. The vine was giving off a faint white glow of residual healing magic. The vine crawled deep into the Bass'ken Lakes woods, as a small pumpkin began growing from it. The small pumpkin then split open in a crooked grin. "Kekekeke"
