(Rebekah's Point of View)
Rebekah found it ironic that she saw Elena waking ahead of her briskly. Rebekah knew where she was going but the thought that Elena was walking to meet her made her dead heart pulse. She looked so incredibly sexy when she was walking so determinedly. Rebekah put the car in park, and she hopped out.
"Going somewhere?" She had asked, trying to lure Elena closer to her. When she did approach, Rebekah found her hands at the waist of the one woman who she swore she could not get enough of. She pondered how a person could be so perfectly sculpted and how it was that Elena's waist seemed to fit her hands so seamlessly. It was only moments before she had Elena sitting in the passenger seat of her car, as they drove off to their date night.
Rebekah walked into the small town pub. She hadn't been for nearly a hundred years, back when it used to be just the town hall, not 'The Grille'. So much had changed in a hundred and fifty years, Rebekah had watched through the 20's and the 40's; marveled at how society changed, how the most simplistic moments became so complicated. She revelled in the changes, admiring how completely unsubtle the human race was.
They pulled up to the front of The Grille and Rebekah remarked at how not busy it was for a Friday night… She was expecting it to be bustling, so busy that she wouldn't have been able to get a table right away for the both of them. She was disappointed while being simultaneously completely alright with it. Rebekah had more or less wanted the entire town to see the most beautiful creature in town on her arm.
She walked with Elena beside her, she could feel their arms brushing against each other- the contact sent shivers up Rebekah's spine. She loved the sensation of nervous arousal that was constantly present whenever Elena's body was in any proximity to her own. She indulged in it frequently, she actually delighted in it.
As they sat Rebekah remarked at how beautiful Elena looked sitting across from her in the booth. The way her brown hair fell just past her shoulders and the way her eyes lit up so brightly. Rebekah smiled at her as they sat across from each other and ordered. They both ordered water, and it came promptly.
"I'm sorry I left today so... unexpectedly." Rebekah said reaching across the table and grabbing her hand lightly. She could feel Elena's pulse quicken, and it brought an inward smile forward to her face. She couldn't stand the smell of Elena's blood in the classroom. She had to run home to drink from her store of O-negative blood, she made it through three bags before she was satisfied.
She felt badly about it sure, but the desire she had to sink her teeth into this woman's flesh was exponential, and was not only thirst- it was sexual in a way that she had never experienced before with anyone else. It was far more intense of a desire than she had ever experienced; the desire to mark this woman. She watched as Elena bit her lip nervously as her eyes dropped for a second. She wondered what Elena could possibly be thinking about… If it was her or not.
"I know you probably had something to do that was far more important." Elena said, while Rebekah hung onto every word. It was so easy to get lost in the things she said, the way she talked, the way she went off into some magical place when she talked about the things that most interested her. The way she joked with such high intelligence, and the way that she got nervous. The way she laughed, made Rebekah's stale breath stop in her throat.
Their dinner arrived, and they sat and ate and chit chatted. Mostly about Elena, Rebekah was dying to know everything about her. She had so much to say about school and her friends and cheering, but so little about her family life, which was what Rebekah was dying to know. Rebekah wondered if she knew her own bloodline- if she knew where she got her perfect good looks and brilliant laugh.
She observed her from across the table, and decided it didn't matter. Elena and Katherine were not the same person, regardless of how similar they looked to one another. Elena was perfect, beautiful, her voice was melodic and her laugh is symphonic; she was more of a goddess than Rebekah could even begin to describe.
When they were finished their meal, Rebekah watched as Elena went to pay for her food, only to find the bill was covered. She came back to their table with a shocked expression on her face. Rebekah smiled at it. The way Elena's eyes looked at her with surprise and appreciation; it made everything better. She didn't say anything else, as she picked up her coat and wallet- took Elena by the arm and led her out of the restaurant. They got into Rebekah's car, and she started it, and they drove the opposite direction.
"Where are you taking me?" Elena asked, it made Rebekah's heart beat precariously unevenly the way she said it, a little bit of uncertainty present in the tone as if she were… afraid. Her elevated heart rate confirmed it. Rebekah loved the minute amount of fear she instilled in the woman, but it was not in her nature to torture the object of her affections.
She turned down the road toward the river, one of her favourite places in the entire world. Literally in the entire world- Rebekah had never once been in a place that she more enjoyed than the river. The flowing cleanliness, and the sound of nature living, for the most part, uninterrupted, brought her this sense of peace. A sense of humanity seemed to course through her, and that's why she loved it.
She got out of her car, and walked around to the front, and that's where she sat; on the warm hood of her car. She waited for Elena to get out and join her, and it was a few seconds before she did. There was a moment or two of silence, just admiring the sounds and the foliage and the way everything seemed so alive.
"Why are we here?" Elena's voice carried miles and miles further than she realized out here. Out here Rebekah could hear it bounce off of tree branches, and off of rocks and even animals. She knew that Elena could not hear like she could but, she knew the experience would be similar.
"This is my favourite place in the entire world. I've never brought anyone here before." Rebekah said, laying her body fully back on the hood of the car, moving so that her head was on the windshield, and the rest of her body on the hood. She watched Elena do the same, until their heads were resting close to each other.
"So why did you bring me?" Elena asked, out of, what Rebekah was sure, curiosity. She pondered it for a moment. Rebekah didn't really have an answer. She was always so intentional about things, so adamantly forward and obvious with her thoughts that this moment confused her. She hadn't planned to take Elena here, it had just happened. She did have an answer however, but she didn't like it.
"I don't know." She finally offered. She turned her head to watch the final rays of sunlight fall on Elena's face as the sun disappeared behind the thick wall of trees at the other end of the river. The last few golden rays lit her eyes up, and then they disappeared leaving the river in complete darkness. Rebekah's eyes readjusted to the new level of darkness, and she could see Elena again in all of her beauty.
"I didn't plan to take you out here actually…" Rebekah said her hand brushing Elena's. The warmth of her body was welcoming to Rebekah, "It just kind of happened as a spur of the moment choice." Rebekah said, turning her head back to lay flay on the windshield.
'Close your eyes Elena." Rebekah said, watching out of the corner of her eye as Elena did as she said. She looked so peaceful in that moment. "Now tell me; what do you hear?" Rebekah asked, waiting for Elena's response. Rebekah waited while Elena absorbed all of the sounds, and attempted to differentiate them all.
"I hear the water and the crickets… I can hear the wind blowing the leaves, the mosquitoes..." Elena's voice trailed off. "I can hear your heartbeat, and the way you breathe." Elena finished, and her eyes opened. Rebekah watched her lay like that in awe of the spectacle of sounds.
"Do you see why it's my favourite place now? It makes you feel so insignificant, and yet so powerful. It gives me a sense of mortality that I can't seem to get from anything else." Rebekah finished, sliding off of the hood of her car, and pulling Elena with her.
"Sometimes we all need a reminder that we're only human." Elena said, the statement was like a kick in the chest. She wasn't human though, she could never be human again… She had to give up all of her humanity in order to survive, and was only now just starting to get it back. Rebekah rounded to her side of the car and got in, before Elena opened her door Rebekah spoke to herself.
"Yeah, we're only human."
Elena pulled herself into the passenger seat, and buckled her seatbelt. Rebekah waited for the click, because Elena had been partially right after all, Elena was only human. She couldn't survive a car crash like Rebekah could, and that realization unnerved Rebekah… That Elena's mortality was still intact, that the frail human could be lost at any time; That perhaps Rebekah could still manage to care about something besides herself, care for a living creature.
Rebekah drove Elena home, down winding roads until they were back in town, and she followed the route that she had taken to drive Elena home from school until they reached the front door, it was 11pm when the girls finally pulled up in front of the house. The house was empty, Rebekah could tell because she couldn't hear any movement, and no breathing from within it.
"I guess Jenna went out tonight." Elena said to her, a small smile forming on the other girls face. Rebekah marvelled at the girl. Elena undid her seatbelt, and opened her car door, Rebekah did the same and opened her door, and waited for Elena to round the other side. There was a walkway up to the house and Rebekah decided to stroll along it with her.
"Thank you for a lovely evening Elena." Rebekah offered, reaching out for the other girls' hand. Elena's hand held on to her own tightly they strolled up the steps together. It made Rebekah's spine tingle; the way their fingers fit together.
"Honestly the pleasure was all mine, honestly. I never imagined in a million years that I'd ever go out on a date with someone like you." Elena said to her, as Rebekah swung their arms back and forth, they walked up the last three steps until they were on the porch.
Rebekah watched as Elena fumbled for her keys which were buried somewhere in the girls purse. She laughed inwardly at how awkward the object of her affections was. But it only solidified something in her; the fact that she would have to do what she planned to do tonight, and no longer prolong this poor girl's unsure suffering.
"Elena, can we do this again sometime?" Rebekah asked. Part of her had been unsure of how she should feel. Should she feel nervous while asking Elena out on another date, or should she act how she truly felt; confident and secure in the fact that Elena would say yes?
"Rebekah, of course we can do this again! And hopefully many more times!" Elena said turning to face her with the lanyard full of keys in her hand. She watched Elena's eyes widen as Rebekah stepped a little bit closer, and reached her hand out to stroke the soft skin of Elena's cheek.
"I apologize, if I have read too much into this… situation." Rebekah said, taking Elena's chin into her hand, admiring all of her features, she really was beautiful at any hour. "But sometimes the things you say, and the way you say them, well, I have to wonder if I'm right about the way you feel." Rebekah finished, she could feel Elena's heartbeat right through her skin, as if every capillary were screaming for her mouth to suck them dry.
"I won't say that I don't care if I am wrong, but I must know..." Rebekah said, allowing herself to close the distance between them, their faces inches apart. Rebekah could smell her body, the shampoo she used and the deodorant, she could smell that the clothes had only been washed once since they were bought and were practically brand new- she could still smell the store that they came from.
"So I am sorry if what I am about to do makes you uncomfortable, but understand that I must do it." With that Rebekah held Elena's face between her hands and tilted her head back slightly; as Rebekah allowed her lips to finally connect with Elena's.
It started out light and innocent, but quickly developed into something more heated as Rebekah felt Elena's hands wrap themselves in her hair. Elena's lips sought after Rebekah's and it became a passionate tug of war between the two. Rebekah allowed her hands to find Elena's waist as she mashed their two bodies together in a dance of passion, as if their bodies could somehow become one, fuse into one singular being. Their lips slid against each other as tongues explored opposite mouths. Hands groped breasts, and grabbed bums, while Rebekah's lips found themselves at Elena's throat.
Something changed for Rebekah, she felt her eyes darken, and her thirst begin. She couldn't help how badly she wanted to stop kissing Elena and devour her; she could do it too, and probably get away with it. She moved her lips back to Elena's, whose mouth had been left agape by the attention Rebekah had devoted to her neck. She could compel her to forget this night had ever happened, which was what she had planned to do if the kiss did not garner the reaction she hoped for. But it had. It had and part of Rebekah knew she could not ruin this by letting herself run rampant and out of control.
She broke the kiss off, and pressed her forehead to Elena's. She focused all of her strength on controlling herself. She felt her eyes return to normal, she even felt her fangs revert even further back into their cavities. She regained control over herself, and allowed their foreheads to part. Rebekah looked into Elena's eyes for a moment, and she saw everything that she had hoped to see, underlying lust, coupled with breathlessness and something like contentment.
"I suppose that answers my question." Rebekah said out loud, to which Elena laughed slightly. Both of their hair was now disheveled and unkempt looking. Rebekah decided in that exact moment that she had never seen Elena look so beautiful, and she knew she would revisit this moment many times over in the coming weeks.
"It answers my question as well." Elena offered, as Rebekah could only smile to herself. The kiss had made her giddy, unnecessarily happy. She reached down to pick up Elena's discarded keys and hand them to her, Elena took the end of the lanyard, and used her other hand to grab Rebekah's hand and pull her closer. Rebekah felt the world blur behind her as Elena planted a chaste kiss to her lips.
"Thank you for the most perfect night." Elena said turning her key in the lock. Rebekah's eyes met Elena's, and she knew that the words were meant. Rebekah's lips still tingled, almost painfully, as if there was something missing from them; something that she so desperately longed for.
"I must return the thanks, it was perfect for me in ways you cannot begin to imagine." Rebekah said, turning to go. She wasn't joking either. Out of every date she had been on in one-hundred and fifty years, this was the most perfect, and the one that was the least forced out of them all. She didn't have to pretend to enjoy spending time with Elena, she truly did enjoy it.
"Will you be at school tomorrow?" The question held an undertone to it that Rebekah couldn't quite place, she turned her head over her shoulder, and looked at the beautiful woman whom only moments before was attached to her lips.
"Only if you will be." Was her reply, as Elena gave a nod and a wave and closed the front door. Rebekah walked around to the driver's side of her Nissan, and sat in the seat. She touched her fingers to her lips, the tingling numbness was still there, like an imprint of some kind; reminding her that only moments before Elena's lips had been so feverishly attached to her own. She ran her hands through her hair, and finally allowed herself to be unrestrained.
Rebekah watched as her eyes darkened in the rear-view mirror, all the hunger and desire poured out and coursed through her dead veins. She didn't know where her limit could be drawn, she didn't know if she had a limit, or if tonight she had just been lucky. She prayed neither, and that she could always manage to keep herself regulated.
She knew that may not always be possible, but she did know how important Elena had become to her, and she was not willing to put her in harm's way at all. It didn't matter if she had to train herself to have better control or if she had to drink three people dry afterwards. She would not risk Elena's life. She put her key in the ignition, and drove off towards her house.
It was a few short minutes until she reached her front door, which she practically broke down in order to get inside. Her blood bags were behind the bookshelf in a hidden refrigerator. She picked out three bags off her favourite batch of O-negative, and slurped them down. They made her eyes lighten up, there was still a thirst left unsatisfied within her.
And then it dawned on her, Elena didn't just make her hungry, she made her horny as well. The realization came as Rebekah laid in bed, trying to submerge herself into a revisitation in order to pass the time. Elena complicated things within her, within her own structure of self-awareness. It was a welcome disturbance, but still slightly unnerving.
She decided not to dwell on it too much, and that her desires could be sated until the right time arrived. She let her body relax, and she allowed herself a break from all the triviality of relationships in the current time, and allowed memories of her previous relationships to fill her mind.
