The Walking Dead: Red Glasses

Hey guys and sorry for the wait, I hope you enjoyed the previous chapter, I am slowly going through this series because for me it is hard to write original events, the next episode 'a house divided' will be different though, trust me. Also sorry about not giving Sarah too much time in this but that will be compensated in this chapter.

Spoiler alert

All that remains: Still. Not. Bitten

(Clementine's POV)

I breathed heavily as I crawled my way through the hole in the shed, the bite was getting worse.

After a bit of effort I managed to get in, I stood up and put the supplies on the table and place my arm on the table.

"this is going to suck" I stated the obvious,

I looked at the peroxide bottle Sarah gave me, I took of the cap and picked it up.

I braced myself for the pain that would follow, and I poured the bottle onto the wound.

I screamed a semi muffled scream as I dropped the bottle, the pain was agonizing but I pulled through.

The wound bubbled up, signifying that it worked.

"okay… okay… I'm good, I'm fine" I reassured myself, "now the fun part" I said sarcastically.

I stared at the string and the needle and shuddered, I really didn't want to do this.

Picking the string up I threaded it through the eye of the needle and bit off the leftover string.

"now… just like last time… just how Christa showed me" I spoke to myself.

%%%%% flashback %%%%%

It was about a year after Omid died, I had a bit of a fall and got a cut along my leg, it wasn't as big a wound as my bite but it needed stitches.

She showed me what I had to do.

"first you need to clean the wound, peroxide usually helps" she said as she poured peroxide on my arm, I was unprepared for the pain and I yelled in pain.

"it stings when it gets in an open wound, but it gets rid of bad bacteria" she told me.

She still was angry about me getting Omid killed but she put that behind her to help me.

"next is the 'fun' part" she said sarcastically.

She grabbed a needle and string and got ready to suture the wound.

"this is going to hurt" she warned me.

"great" I puffed in annoyance.

She held onto my leg put the needle into my wound, causing great pain, and began to sew it up.

"You have to be careful when stitching, if you stitch it wrong it can end up scarring badly or not helping prevent infections" she explained while suturing.

It hurt but I tried to stay tough, so I stopped moving as much and tried to focus.

After what seem like an eternity she finished stitching and got rid of the needle.

"Now all you need to do is bandage it" she told me.

I bandaged the wound myself and I was finished.

"you need to remember things like this, it'll teach you how to stay alive" christa told me sternly.

I nodded simply.

%%%%% Flashback end %%%%%

I snapped out of my memory and moved the needle towards my arm.

After a few seconds I pushed the needle in, it hurt like hell.

I banged my hand against the table to relieve some pain.

Toughening up I grabbed the needle again and stabbed it all the way through and pulled the string.

My hand was shaky and my vision was slightly blurry but I managed to get the needle in again, this time all the way through. I grabbed the end of the needle and pulled it all the way through.

I was crying in pain from it but I pushed on, the needle going in a third time.

'one more should do it' I told myself as I pulled the needle out.

My sight was even blurrier and my breathing was making my hand shake harder.

I pushed the needle in but at too steep of an angle and it got stuck in the tissue of my skin, I looked at it in horror and pulled it out before correcting myself.

I finished the stitch with one final grunt as I stopped and cried in pain.

I looked at the stitch, it seemed like it would hold together.

Grabbing the bandage I began to wrap it around my arm but my hand slipped and it dropped onto the ground.

I went to pick it up until I felt a cold hand grab my foot, and a gargling sound filling my ears.

It was a walker, and I had nowhere to go.

I grabbed onto the bench as I stopped my fall.

My hand began to reach for the hammer but I was pushed over by the walker, its icy dead grip holding onto my leg.

I looked to my right, under the bench, and found a brick.

I used it to smash it against the walkers hand.

Once… twice… three times.

The hand broke but the walker broke fully into the shed and began crawling towards me.

It was on top of me, trying to bite at my living flesh while I held it back with my feet.

With a push I kicked the undead monster onto the ground, I got up and grabbed the rake to my left and held it back.

After a struggle I managed to impale the walker onto a boat anchor.

Thinking fast I grabbed the hammer and made my way to the stuck monster.

I hit the in the skull with the sharp end of the hammer, it didn't kill it so it tried it again, and again until on my forth swing I penetrated the skull and destroyed the brain.

It was dead once more and I finally had a chance to breathe.

I heard the doors open.

"holy shit!" I heard Luke say in his southern drawl

"what the?" Alvin exclaimed.

"how the hell did it get in here?" Luke wondered as I pulled out the hammer.

"little girl is tough as nails" Pete said somewhat impressed.

"you alright clementine?" Blake asked me, I turned to see he was back on his feet.

(Blake's POV)

I was spending my time sitting down in the kitchen, still recovering from my wounds.

Surprisingly enough I was healing fine, if I didn't put too much pressure on my wound and didn't reopen it, it would be fine by tomorrow morning.

The kitchen door opened to reveal Alvin had walked into the room.

"hey kid, how's the foot?" he asked kindly.

"it's doing real fine actually, thanks for asking" I replied to him.

"no problem" he smiled at me.

"look just between you and me, I don't think she was bitten either, I mean a stray dog could have attacked her not hard to believe now a days" he told me, I was surprised by this.

"but before in the yard…" I began.

"I never said she was bitten" he informed me.

"why are you telling me this?" I asked.

"just didn't want you to get the wrong idea, it just that I knew that we couldn't do anything about this whole incident" he explained.

"well that's fine, I just wish Carlos was a bit more sympathetic towards her you know? I mean locking her in a shed just seems a bit far" I told him my two cents.

"maybe so, but whatever he says, we don't question. He is a doctor so he probably knows what's right, after nicks mom it just got harder for him" he replied.

"thanks anyway, for helping" I told him.

"no worries" he answered as he left the kitchen.

Carlos came back to the kitchen to check on me again.

He did a quick examination on my foot, checking for any signs of infection or bleeding.

"it all seems good, you seem to heal quicker than some people" he commented.

"yeah, sometimes when I was younger I would get bad cuts and the next few days they healed quickly" I explained.

Clementine being locked in the shed was still bugging me.

'I should at least try to convince him to check on her' I thought.

"Carlos" I said getting his attention.

"what is it?" he asked me.

"look, you are probably sick of hearing this, but why can't you just let her come in? she wasn't bitten by a walker" I asked him.

"I know" he told me, to my surprise.

"what?" I said, somewhat angrily.

"I know she wasn't bitten by a dog, I've been in medicine for a good ten years and I know the difference between a bite from a canine and a human" he explained to me.

"but why did you lock her in the shed then?" I was both confused and angry with him.

"because I don't trust her, she could be working with a group of bandits, or… my point is you just met her, and you shouldn't be so naïve to trust people instantly, based on age" he told me, he was holding back some information as well.

"look, I know what happened with nicks mom, but she is just a little girl, leaving her in the shed to die with no medical help is just beyond humane, plus she's my friend I want to see her live through this" I argued my point.

He stopped for a moment.

"you could at least check on her" I suggested, he shushed me.

"now that's just r…" I began.

"stop… listen" he said to me.

In the silence I heard screaming, it was from outside.

in the shed!

The screams got louder.

"everyone, get outside! something's happening in the shed!" Carlos ordered.

"Carlos what's happening?" Luke said in surprise.

"something's happening to the girl" Carlos said.

"god damn it" Luke exclaimed, he felt guilty for locking her in the shed.

He bolted out the door and ran to the shed.

Alvin soon followed, with Rebecca following slowly.

Pete and nick soon after.

I heard the door behind me open.

"dad, what's going on?" I heard Sarah ask, she came down hearing the screams.

"nothing sweetie, let me handle it, I'll come tuck you in later" he reassured her.

"okay" she went to sit down in the lounge room.

"let's go" I told him as I limped out the door.

After we got to the shed we had seen that a walker had broken into the shed, but Clementine had killed it, and by the looks of it stitched up her arm.

"you alright Clementine?" I asked her.

"I'm Still. Not. Bitten. I never was, and you left me out here to die" she spat at the entire cabin group.

"you patched yourself up…?" Luke asked.

"where'd you get that stuff?" nick questioned.

"did she steal from us?" Rebecca accused.

"this doesn't change a thing, she didn't do anything to us" Pete pointed out.

"says the man not carrying a baby" Rebecca countered.

"enough already!" Pete said trying to prevent another argument.

"I did. I took stuff and I'm sorry. I really am" clementine apologized.

"and you think you can trust her…" Rebecca said to Pete.

"goddamn it, don't even start! Any of you would have done the same if you were half as tough as this little girl. So just save it" Pete told the group.

'I know I would've' I thought to myself.

"Bring her in and I'll take a look at her arm" Carlos said as Rebecca, Alvin and the others left.

"damn lurkers sneakin' around out here, we better get inside" Alvin muttered.

"you hungry…?" Luke asked with a bit of a guilty face.

Clementine said nothing as she looked down and continued walking.

I left with Luke to got to the cabin.

(normal POV)

Carlos knelt down and picked up the empty peroxide bottle in the shed.

'how did she get this' he wondered.

He headed back into the cabin afterwards with suspicion on his mind.

%%%%% In the cabin %%%%%

Clementine was sitting in the kitchen as Carlos checked her arm, causing her slight discomfort.

Nick was standing at the end of the room, his rifle on the table, he seemed on edge.

Luck was nervous, he paced.

"This might hurt a little" Carlos warned as he grabbed Clementine's arm a bit harder.

"Ow" she said as he did so.

"how she look…?" Luke asked.

"her suturing skills need some work, but otherwise I would say she should be fine" he gave his prognosis.

"so it wasn't a lurker bite?" Luke said in hopefulness.

Blake was sitting down and he glared at Carlos.

"If it was the fever would have already set in and her temperature would be through the roof" Carlos explained.

Nick just walked quickly out of the room, Luke frowned and went after him.

Clementine checked out the bandage on her arm, Carlos washed his hand quietly.

"I wish you wouldn't have done what you did" Carlos spoke up.

"I was hurt and you weren't helping" Clementine reasoned.

"because we considered you a threat. Which you were" Carlos countered.

"maybe you still are" he muttered.

"Carlos, seriously…" Blake said.

"we put her in the shed out of concern for our loved ones. And then she escaped and persuaded my daughter to steal from us" he replied angrily.

"how did you find out?" clementine asked.

"I found this in the shed" he pulled out the empty bottle of peroxide, "my room is the only one with medical supplies, I'm not as stupid as you think" he berated her.

"if you had have treated her wound in the first place, because you KNEW that she wasn't infected, we wouldn't be in this situation" Blake defended her.

"you knew I wasn't infected?" clementine gasped in anger.

"because you were still a threat, regardless there are a few things you should both know about my daughter" he said.

"she isn't like you two, you may not get that initially or already have, but once you know you'll understand… if she knew how bad the world is… what it's really like out there she would cease to function" he told them.

"she's my little girl. She's all I have left and I would ask that you stay away from her" he said dropping his façade and spoke sincerely.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know" clementine apologized.

"me neither" Blake said, trying to make amends.

"you're forgiven, just don't do anything that would jeopardize the group" he said taking one last look at the two before leaving.

"Carlos wait" Blake said quickly.

"what do you need?" Carlos asked.

"where did you put my guitar case?" he said nervously.

"I put it in the living room, do you want it?" he asked, Blake sighed in relief.

"if it isn't a burden" Blake replied.

Carlos left the room and Luke walked in, two bowls of food in his hands.

"I brought y'all some food if you're hungry" Luke said.

"please, I haven't eaten in hours" Blake accepted.

Clementine nodded with a smile.

Clementine sat down at the table and immediately started digging in to the food. Blake did the same.

"that's gonna leave one helluva scar" Luke pointed out.

"really" Blake said in disbelief at his words.

"it's okay, better than losing it" clementine replied.

"yeah you can say that again… scars are way cooler than stumps" Luke said with a smile.

"definitely" clementine replied.

Blake just shook his head at the conversation, grin on his face.

They all heard the door open behind them, it was Carlos and Nick, the former with a guitar case.

"There you go" Carlos said as he leaned the guitar against the wall.

"Thanks" Blake replied.

Carlos nodded and left the room, nick was left them with them.

He walked over to the table.

"hey look… um, I wanted to say sorry for… well… for being a dick out there" nick nervously stuttered an apology to clementine.

"I got kinda aggro and shot your friend, that was not cool of me" he said somewhat stupidly.

"nick has been known to go off every once in a while. Don't hold it against him" Luke informed her.

"I guess we all have our moments" Blake said.

"yeah" nick agreed.

"You definitely had one out there" Luke said to him.

"you were just protecting your friend, I get it" Clementine said.

"I shouldn't have been so stupid as to shoot your friend… I just … we had a bad experience once" nick said looking somewhat sad.

Blake had a sympathetic look on his face, he knew exactly what nick was going through.

"we've all had bad experiences" clementine said to nick.

He sat down on the chair next to him.

"Blake already knows this but nick lost his mom, we took care of someone who was bitten" Luke explained.

"it was my fault, I…" nick began.

"it was no one's fault. We thought we could control it. but we couldn't… and them she turned and his mom was standing right there and she got attacked" Luke explained further, nick closed his eyes as he struggled with the memory.

There was a bit of a silence after this.

"anyway, hopefully you both understand" nick said.

"yeah, I do" clementine said.

"I went through the same situation, I know what it feels like" Blake explained, he seemed a little down at the thought but kept a sympathetic look.

Nick nodded in understanding and left.

"so what's the plan with you two?" Luke asked.

"I don't know, maybe we might leave after Blake and I heal up" clementine said, she was unsure.

"we the both of you are welcome to stay if you want. Y'can heal up and take some time to sort things out" Luke offered.

Blake had finished his meal and went to grab his guitar case, he sat down and unzipped the baggy case and pulled out a guitar.

It was an emerald green and black acoustic guitar and it had a bit of wear and tear, but otherwise it was fine.

"nice guitar" Luke complimented.

"thanks" Blake replied as he plucked at a few strings, seeing if it was tuned.

"who taught you how to play?" clementine asked.

"my dad at first, when I moved to Seattle I had a proper music teacher at school" he explained.

He then began to play a soft melody on the guitar. (A/N Gustavo Santaolalla's theme from the last of us).

Needless to say the two were impressed by the little song he played, though he had stopped playing after a minute and a half.

"that's a nice song" clementine complimented.

"thanks" he said with a small smile.

"what's it called?" Luke asked.

"I haven't thought of a name" he replied honestly.

"you mean you made it yourself?" Luke said curiously.

"yeah, it's really a way I can escape, I don't have to worry about getting my face bit off because I just forget everything wrong with this world" he said philosophically.

Clementine looked confused at his statement.

"that's deep" Luke commented.

"yeah, the apocalypse does that to you" he chuckled lightly in response.

"I don't get it" Clem said trying to wrap her head around the saying.

Both Luke and Blake chuckled at her naiveté.

"sorry, I forget you're still young, what I mean is, uh…" Blake began to explain, he didn't know how to word it.

"what he means is that the guitar is a distraction, he plays it so he can keep his mind off the bad things and focus on the good" Luke finished for him.

"I think I get it… sort of" Clem smiled at this knowledge.

A few moments passed when the sound of a door drew their attention.

"sorry to interrupt. But I'm out there standing watch and I can't help but notice this place is lit up like a god damn beacon in the middle of the woods" Pete pointed out to the three sitting at the table.

"yeah, it's time to turn in anyway" Luke said to the others.

"get your winks while you can because we're goin' fishing at first light. A couple of fresh brookies for dinner? Mm, wouldn't that be nice?" Pete smiled at the thought.

"better than canned food I can say that" Blake commented.

"that's true… by the way, you think you'll be up for the fishing trip tomorrow, with the foot and all" Pete said in concern.

"I'll be fine, it's not like I'm crippled" he replied.

"I know, I just don't want to leave you here with Rebecca, considering she don't exactly trust y'all" Pete voiced his reasoning.

"anyway Blake, you and Clem will have to sleep in the lounge room 'cause there aren't any beds left, sorry" Luke said as he got up.

"it's okay with me, you?" Blake asked Clementine, he had also got up with his guitar case in hand.

"it's fine, better than out in the woods" Clem said in agreement.

'or a shed' she thought bitterly.

Luke, Pete and Blake left the room to turn in for the night, while Clem was finishing her meal.

Or she was until she heard an unamused voice.

"oh, you're still here" a very unimpressed Rebecca walked into the room.

Clementine lowered her eyes from her, ignoring her and eating her meal.

Rebecca walked over to the sink and washed her hands.

"I wouldn't get comfortable if I were you" Rebecca said to her coldly.

Clementine was annoyed with her attitude, she contemplated asking who the father of her child was, as blackmail.

She decided against it as it would just cause more trouble than needed.

"Luke invited me to stay" she told her bluntly.

"well good for him, but that's not how things work around here. We make decisions as a group and you're wearing out your welcome" Rebecca told her just as bluntly, coldly as well.

"you got what you came here for. Now go" she harshly told the preteen as she left the room.

Clementine sighed and put her bowl of food on the sink and went to the lounge room.

Blake was lying on the wooden floor with a lounge cushion as his pillow.

"you know you don't have to leave the lounge to me" clementine said, a little amused by his actions.

"well you deserve it after all you went through today" he spoke tiredly, he was drifting to sleep.

"thanks, good night" clementine said as she was suddenly getting more tired.

"night" he replied as he closed his eyes.

Clementine did the same and feel asleep.

%%%%% Earlier in Sarah's Room %%%%%

Carlos had entered the room.

Sarah had taken a deep breath, she knew she was going to get in trouble the moment she had given Clementine the medicine.

She tried not to panic, she wasn't very good with stress.

'calm down, he won't get too mad, or will he? He is going to be so mad at me!' she was breathing heavier.

Sarah felt disconnected to the world around her, she felt like the walls were closing in on her as she struggled to stop panicking. She closed her eyes to try and shut out the world.

Suddenly a warm feeling had gripped onto her shoulders, the hold belonged to her father.

"Sarah, look at me" he said trying to comfort her.

She did as her father asked, she looked into his eyes. The look wasn't one of anger like she feared. He had a look of genuine concern.

"Sarah, you need to calm down, I'm not going to hurt you" Carlos explained to her.

She sobbed a little, "you're not mad at me?" she sniffed.

"No I'm not, I am disappointed though" he said sternly.

Sarah looked down, ashamed.

"it's because you gave that girl clementine medicine, what she say?" Carlos asked her.

"S-she said it was a dog bite, she said she would die from it, I-I didn't think it would be such a bad idea… to help her… I'm sorry" she said with a few tears coming from her face.

"Sarah… I know you just wanted to do the right thing but we don't know anything about her, she could have been working with Bill. Giving her our medicine isn't exactly something we can do when we can't trust who we give it to" he gave her an explanation, his face was soft.

"I don't think she is working with Bill, she's just a kid" Sarah said naively.

"maybe so, but we have to be careful trusting strangers, especially the other one, Blake" he said.

"why him?" Sarah asked.

"he is more likely to be an untrustworthy person, he is older and his story on meeting clementine in the woods is sketchy" Carlos explained.

"he seemed nice" Sarah admitted.

"just be cautious" he warned her.

He walked towards the door, "if anything happens, I will protect you" he told her.

"I know, good night" Sarah wished her father a good night.

"good night, I'll be back soon" he told her as he left the room.

Sarah went to sleep, she had felt better knowing her father wasn't too angry with her.

'I really shouldn't be so worried, of course he wouldn't hurt me' she mentally scolded herself.

She drifted to sleep.

So that was that, after all this time I have returned.

Seriously though I think it should be easier for me to update chapters with this newfound motivation.

Also this I think my schedule will be two chapters of a story each, the next chapter being my second and onto two chapters of my Pokémon fic.

Read and review.
